Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning to move to the beautiful region of Quebec for work. But honestly, we’re finding all sorts of conflicting information when trying to figure out how to start the eligibility process.

Have any of you gone through these steps before? If so, we’d love to hear your tips!

My husband works in baking (bakery/pastry), and I work in insurance in France.

I think his job might be easier to get a work permit for than mine.

No, there aren’t a million ways to settle in Quebec—you need to get permanent residency. Check with the Quebec delegation in Paris for info. Lately, it’s become harder to obtain, just so you know.

good luck, then. For my part, I was able to get permanent residency in 2005 and lived in Quebec until 2011. Then I got laid off from the company where I was working, so it was back to square one. But in the restaurant industry, I think there will always be a need for qualified staff. Try looking into the few bakeries that exist in Quebec—though there aren’t many. Where I lived in Laval, there was one nearby. Otherwise, try prospecting in Montreal’s Little Italy or the Marché Jean-Talon.
