Road conditions in the Anti-Atlas

hi, Now that I’ve got my new VW Syncro T3 (4x4), I’m hoping to explore some new tracks on my next trip at the end of 2025. Back in winter 2022/23, I wanted to try a recently extended track that continues the one leading to Aït Kine. After the village, I was able to drive on a good ten kilometers of tarmac, which then turns into a nice dirt track as soon as the climb to the pass begins (beautiful ravines). Almost at the last hairpin turn, I didn’t have enough power or traction to make it (my old T3 was only 2x4). I had to turn around, clenching my cheeks the whole way. Has anyone managed to take this track, which should lead to a main road (Igherm or Taliouine?) further north? And where exactly? Is it fully paved now?

First off, a new photo (as my avatar) of my trusty VW T3 that’s been with me everywhere since 1988—and of course in Morocco since 2010. Next up, I’ll be asking if you know and have taken the tracks I’m about to share, and what their current condition is like?

I’ll start with those departing from Aguinane toward the north. In late January 2020, from Akka Irhen and Agmour, I passed through Aguinane. The track was decent dirt with a few direct sections over riverbed pebbles at the time. Then Aguinane, Asserarghe, leading to the corner of the mosque and R.N. 1743 in Agadir Melloul. The track was dirt but no issues. My informant also told me that from Aguinane, there were two other tracks passing—either one or both—through Amdghar and emerging on R.N. 10 between the small Tizi N'Taghatine and Kourkouda. I didn’t have time to check. Among the "usual long-distance travelers," are there any who’ve taken them, and would you know if these (dirt) tracks have changed? I’ll have more questions about the area between R.N. 7 and Tafroute. P.s. The mods can decide if it’s better to open a topic for each sector

Hey, It's not easy to help with your question—it's a bit vague... Are you talking about the track heading north? The one where the tarmac ends after the wadi? After Ougoug? Or via Imi n'Oughzir? That famous section—if it's the one I'm thinking of—wasn’t there when I passed through about a year ago, but the tarmac starts again on the other side... I find it more manageable going north-south than south-north... But I’m not sure if that’s what you mean—between Ait Kine and Taliouine, there are plenty of roads and tracks...🙂
