Je sais bien que ça a l'air bien stressé, j'ai à mon regret dû supprimer Sequoia NP (pour l'instant du moins...), Monument Valley et tant d'autres.. mais bon il fallait faire des choix. Je pense éventuellement supprimer aussi Arches NP si on est trop court, et à la rigueur 1 jour à Yellowstone, mais pour être honnête celui-ci je veux vraiment pas le bâcler. Qu'en pensez-vous? Est-ce réalisable?

Pour moi c'est pas mal - s'il y a qq chose à supprimer pour voir Monument Valley c'est un jour à Grand Canyon

Tu passes le temps qu'il faut (mini j'entends) à Yellowstone, une journée entière à Grand Teton très bien, une journée pour Arches, une pour Canyonlands impec, le 20 Juin peut être pourrais-tu stopper à Escalante histoire de profiter de la magnifique route scénique 12 et profiter un peu de Capitol Reef au passage...ne t'inquiète pas cela te stoppe à 1 heure de Bryce donc pas de soucis pour rejoindre ce parce le lendemain à la fraiche et qui restera un de tes plus beaux souvenirs je pense.
Le 22 Juin dans ce cas là tu peux descendre sur Page, aller voir Antelope, et filer vers Monument Valley pour y dormir. Le lendemain tu repars tranquille vers le Grand Canyon: là aussi tu feras une partie du Canyon en arrivant par l'est, car tu stoppes à différents points de vue.
Le 24 tu reprends ton circuit comme convenu, et tu n'as rien perdu...tu as même Monument Valley!

+1 pour un jour de moins à Grand Canyon
à rajouter peut-être du coté de Moab
(avec une descente du Colorado 😎 par ex, c'est une expérience à faire je trouve...)
Pour Death Valley, plutôt que de partir trop tôt de Vegas (au risque de crâmer vers midi sous le soleil)
je recommanderai de viser plutôt l'après-midi (le soleil se couche à 20h à ce moment là)
en partant de Vegas cela représente 3h30 de route :
en partant vers 14h00, tu arrives donc à 17h30.
ça me paraît déjà pas mal pour profiter d'une belle lumière moins "écrasante" jusqu'au coucher du soleil.
De même, le lendemain matin , tu peux profiter du lever du soleil, en évitant les heures les plus chaudes...
(40°C à l'ombre quand même...)

Sachant que le 25/6 on voulait pas partir super tard de Grand Canyon vers Vegas pour en voir un minimum (même si c'est pas forcément trop mon truc, mais c'est plutôt car que le surlendemain on partira tôt pour Death Valley), perdre le 23/6 ça va du coup pas faire juste pour le Grand Canyon?
J'ajoute une dernière question concernant les logements. Etant donné qu'on sera à l'arrache (arrivée assez tard en soirée et que l'itinéraire peut encore changer au dernier moment), pensez-vous qu'il y aura aucun souci pour trouver une place en camping sans réserver à cette période? Pour Vegas et San Francisco, j'imagine qu'il vaut quand même mieux réserver une AJ...

A mon avis ne pas réserver d'hébergement en été devrait t'assurer quelques nuits dans la voiture après une bonne crise pour tenter de trouver un toit (ou un emplacement de tente) !!!! (c'est du vécu!)
Autre avis, ne pas voir "Arche" me semble plus que dommage. C'est avec Bryce et peut être Zyon ce que nous avons préféré de tout un périple dans ce coin. Arche est Sublime et si tu fais des photos…. Sublimissime. En revanche nous avons tous (2 parents et 2 ados) été très déçus par Grand Canyon….
Encore un avis (le dernier promis !) Las Vegas n'est peut être pas ton truc mais c'est quand même aussi un "monument" à voir tant le qualificatif démesuré prend ici sa pleine signification qu'il en devient assurément digne d'intérêt.
Bon voyage, fais gaffe à la chaleur (c'est peu dire…. chapeau mouillé etc…. si si !) et à propos de la chaleur une petite anecdote pour finir, quand on a traversé Death Valley en Août il faisait FROID !!!!! on a coupé la clim etc…. j'étais dépité moi qui rêvait de ne pas pouvoir sortir de la voiture sans encourir une mort atroce.
Et si on partait demain ? pourquoi demain ? tout de suite, non !!

Je pense aussi qu'arriver le samedi soir à Vegas oblige à réserver (de même qu'à San Francisco). On y passera l'après-midi et la soirée, pour une petite halte. Maintenant je suis conscient que ce n'est peut-être pas suffisant pour bien profiter.
Pour les campings, la demande est-elle si importante y compris pendant le mois de juin (encore hors vacances scolaires de juillet-aout)? Comment se passe la réservation de l'emplacement d'une tente à distance? Va falloir qu'on fignole sérieusement l'itinéraire...
Je tiens pas à louper Arches NP, je vais quand même essayer de m'y rendre après Grand Teton.
Pour Zion, étant donné que le parc est près de Bryce Canyon il y a peut-être moyen de s'y arrêter. Cela dit il faudra compter deux jours pour visiter Zion et Bryce avant de se rendre à Page, donc il faudra qu'on fasse des choix dans tous les cas pour les visites suivantes (ex: Monument Valley me semble trop éloigné malheureusement, par rapport à l'itinéraire initial, tout comme Sequoia, sans parler de Mesa Verde mais celui-là malheureusement je me suis résolu à le zapper d'emblée...).
Un jour de plus pour faire Zion veut donc dire un jour de moins dans un autre parc (ou le supprimer complètement) voire supprimer un jour à San Francisco en fin de séjour... Les choix sont rudes, pourquoi j'ai pas 4 semaines de congés pour être peinard!? ;-(
Bien retenu l'anecdote sur Death Valley (je sais pas comment je vais pouvoir trimballer toutes sortes de fringues d'été et d'hiver moi, sans parler de la tente, mais ça va bien devoir se faire!!) et merci encore à tous pour vos avis qui me permettent d'y voir plus clair!
Zion est un très beau parc...mais Monument Valley c'est Monument Valley, Un des grands symboles de l'Ouest Américain...il y a déjà eu de multiples discussions à ce propos et pour moi l'endroit reste un incontournable...même au détriment de Zion par exemple...que tu pourras visiter plus amplement dans un prochain voyage par exemple!!! Le problème de ton voyage c'est que tu étires pas mal...nous nous avions fait cela (et encore pas tous les mêmes endroits) sur deux voyages...donc si tu veux vraiment faire de Yellowstone à SFO il faut savoir couper...mais coupe Monument et je te garantis que tu auras des regrets par la suite, sûr et certain...d'autant que contrairement à ce que tu dis Monument n'est pas excentré de ton itinéraire surtout si tu passes par Page...et que tu te rends au Grand Canyon sud...
Ton programme était pas mal alors garde cette même trame.

Je comprends ton point de vue, il se défend. Je sais plus trop quoi penser sur le périple, tu as sans doute raison et on essaiera d'aller à Monument Valley. C'est compliqué, mais jouable. Compliqué car justement on pensait aller au Grand Canyon rive nord (moins touristique) plutôt qu'au sud. As-tu fait le sud? Qu'est ce que tu en as pensé?
Zion est à côté de Bryce donc ce serait aussi dommage de le zapper. Mais comme tu dis, le problème c'est de vouloir "tout" faire ou du moins beaucoup, en si peu de temps.
On va bien réfléchir et replanifier tout ça, car rien n'est encore figé. La seule chose dont je suis sûr à l'heure actuelle c'est que je veux rester le temps qu'il faut pour bien apprécier Yellowstone puis descendre vers Arches NP, après on verra bien.

Tu peux très bien envisager de faire dans ce sens Moab-Monument Valley-Page(antelope canyon)-Grand canyon nord-Bryce et puis rejoindre Las vegas en traversant Zion sans que ça te prenne plus de temps que le trajet que tu prévoyais initialement.
Je ne connais pas la partie nord du Grd Canyon, mais je regrette un peu d'avoir privilégier le sud qui a un côté un peu usine à touriste avec ses navettes etc... (même si on arrive à échapper à la foule en marchant un peu).
A refaire le même voyage, je pense que j'irai au nord.
Tu comptes faire la route Jackson - Moab d'une seule traite? Vous serez 2 conducteurs j'espère 😉.
Sinon, comme les autres, dommage de zapper Monument Valley, surtout que c'est un parc qui ne demande pas beaucoup de temps, 3h pour la Valley Drive et une nuit sur place. Au contraire, Zion demande beaucoup plus de temps pour être apprécié, donc à zapper l'un deux, je zapperais Zion. Pour un premier voyage, je trouve les paysages de Monument Valley beaucoup plus emblématique, et accessibles, quand on n'a pas beaucoup de temps 😉

En termes de miles? Peut être... Mais avec deux nuits sur Bryce, c'est tout à fait possible. La première journée tu fais le trajet Monument Valley - Bryce en profitant un peu de la superbe route 😎. Et J2 tu as une journée complète pour profiter de Bryce.
Grand Teton vaut le coup: oui si tu es sensible aux paysages alpins.
Zapper Zion: il faut bien faire des choix. La question était Monument Valley ou Zion... Dans ce cas et pour une premier voyage je pense qu'il vaut mieux zapper Zion.

Circuit classique : arrivée à Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Clearwater, Whistler, île de Vancouver, départ de Vancouver.
Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?
Nous hésitons en effet à tenter le coup ou à annuler ce qui peut encore l'être.
Nous ne sommes pas jeunes, et n'avons plus la flexibilité d'autrefois...

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.

I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
Thanks for advising me on the booking—should I reserve a room in the hotel or go for a cabin for the best view?

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
