Je fais la croisière du Concordia du 8 décembre. Pour l'escale de Katakolon je voudrais aller au site d'Olympie par mes propres moyens. Est-il facile de louer une voiture? Est il préférable de prendre un taxi? Y a t il d'autres endroits intéressants à visiter dans les environs?
A Limassol nous voullons aussi faire l'excursion par nous même. Nous ne connaissons pas du tout Chypre. Peut-on louer facilement une voiture?...

j'arrive à l instant du classica, ! pour limassol ? pas de problème ! je peux t expliquer : les taxis sont tout de suite en sortant, pour moi cette escale a été la moins interessante
le temps est tres court (enfin pour nous sur le classica juste le matin jusqu'à 12h30 ) donc direct (pour 80 euros à 4, change pas en notre faveur)) direction odomos, le seul point interessant et retour par limassol pour une visite eclaire, l'île est tres seiche, pas tres interessante à mon gout (du moins par rapport au reste) mais tu vas ou avec le concordia ? je peux peut etre t aider pour le reste ? 🙂
malheureusement pour katakolon, le port est si petit que si il y a déjà un bateau, c'est debarquement en chaloupes, et là fausse joie ... par securité, à cause de la mer agitée, pas de débarquement... donc on a vu katakoloin ...
d'ailleurs je vous deconseille au mois de novembre le classica, 4 jours de mal de mer avec les sacs pour vomir, apres une croisiere sur le magica, mon dieu quelle difference !!!!
Je suis habituée des croisières. J'ai aussi fait le Classica et le Magica (mon préféré). Notre circuit est le suivant: Athènes, Katakolon, Limassol, Alexandrie, Rome, Rhodes, du 8 au 18 décembre.
J'ai déjà vu Olympie mais pas mon fiancé. A Athènes je n'avais pris qu'une excursion Costa sur l'acropole. Limassol, Alexandrie et Rhodes je ne connais pas. Nous avons fait escale à Rome en août dernier. Nous reprendrons de train et en profiterons pour voir une partie de ce que nous n'avons pas vu.
Nous ne sommes que 2 donc le taxi risque de revenir cher.

Pour commencer "rhodes" (j'ai adoré)
descendre du bateau prendre la première porte de la ville fortifiée) prendre direction new town en restant dans la ville fortifiée, 1 pierre 2 coups on visite une partie de rhodes en se dirigeant vers la station de bus (à 1 quart d'heure à, peine) regarder l'horaire pour lindos (toutes les heures, 1 heure de trajet) visite de lindos (excellent) puis retour à rhodes, descente à la station de bus retour au bateau par une autre porte de la ville fortifiée, avec plus de temps, ce jour là, nous avons pris sandwich au buffet (on se rattrape le soir)
astuce : pour le séjour prévoir une bouteille d'eau rigide + papier alu, un petit sac à dos isotherme et vous êtes libre comme l'air car il ya tout ce qu'il faut sur le bateau (surtout que l'eau de votre salle de bain est inbuvable ça vous permet d'avoir un rafraichissement dans la nuit avec le frigo de la chambre, eau dispo au buffet))
trajet en car rhodes lindos 4 euros.
incroyable, vous verrez toutes les femmes faire le signe de croix à chaque virage ...lindos est à voir, c'est essentiel !!!
encore mieux qu'une excursion 2 en une !!

Oui, la plupart des loueurs se trouvent dans ce qu'ils appellent la "tourist area" vers Dassoudi Beach. Vous y trouverez toutes les grandes entreprises : europcar, avis... etc et aussi pleins de loueurs particuliers.

quels conseils pouvez-vous ns donner tant sur les excursions (souhaiterions en faire le plus possible seuls, mais je pense que pour Alexandrie ce ne serait pas prudent !) et sur le bateau lui-même qui a l'air superbe ?
Sommes 4 : 2 adultes et mes enfants 16 et 15 ans.
c'est notre 1ère croisière avec Costa (une seule précédente croisière avec msc) et n'ai pu avoir de cabine extérieure (déjà plein !).
ma fille a un peu d'appréhension par rapport au confinenemt et manque de vue en cabine intérieure.

Nous avons fait deux croisières avec Costa en cabine intérieure (Europa et Concordia), et nous avons fait la quasi totalité des excursions par nous mêmes, y compris celle pour l'Egypte (via une agence locale) sans probleme particulier de sécurité.
Le Concordia est un bateau très grand, et bien équipés. Les cabines sont confortables particulierement la literie. Cependant, la décoration assez "KITCH" peut surprendre.

Désolée de vous répondre si tard. J’ai si peu de temps avec mon travail.
Nous avons fait cette croisière en décembre dernier. J’ai adoré l’itinéraire et le bateau. J’ai fait une croisière avec MSC et plusieurs avec Costa. J’ai trouvé que Costa était un peu supérieur à MSC.
Ne vous en faites pas pour la cabine intérieure. C’est habituellement ce que nous prenons et, comme nous ne sommes jamais dans la cabine, ça ne fait pas beaucoup de différence, à part le prix.
A Alexandrie nous avons aussi pris l’excursion organisée. Nous avions trop peur de nous aventurer seuls là-bas. Nous sommes allés voir les pyramides, le colosse de Ramsès, la pyramide de Djéser. La journée fut formidable. Se retrouver à côté d’un site comme celui-ci ça ne laisse pas indifférent. Ma partie préférée à peut-être été le mastaba dont l’intérieur était couvert d’hiéroglyphes. J’ai appris à les déchiffrer quand j’étais adolescente, durant mes vacances. Il ne me restait plus grand-chose mais c’était magnifique. Dommage cependant qu’il y ait eu la guide. C’est malheureux à dire mais elle était peu supportable. Ses commentaires étaient intéressants mais on voyait que son seul but de la journée était de nous vendre ses bijoux et t-shirts horribles et, en fin de journée, de nous emmener dans un magasin (je dirai plutôt un vide-grenier pour grands-mères bien kitsh) où, bien sûr, elle touchait une commission sur la vente. Le guide vous répètera que les vendeurs ambulants ne valent pas la peine et qu’il vaut mieux attendre le soir le « magasin d’état ». Quel horreur ce magasin ! Et dire que toute la journée elle nous pressait pour ne pas râter une minute là-bas.
A Rome nous avons pris le train jusque Rome. Là-bas nous avons marché un peu jusqu’à la gare routière et avons acheté un ticket de bus touristique. C’est chouette car on en descend et on en remonte quand on veut. Il fait des arrêts devant chaque grand site touristique. Nous avons commencé par le forum (achetez là-bas votre ticket combiné forum Colisée, ça vous évitera une file monstrueuse au Colisée). Nous sommes allés au Vatican. Le musée vaut vraiment la peine mais il y a souvent une énorme file (nous l’avons visité à une autre occasion). Un petit conseil : achetez un petit guide touristique avant de partir. Le guide bleu est une merveille.
A Athènes nous avons marché jusqu’à la gare (ça fait une belle petite marche). Vous suivez le port et, pour accéder à la gare, vous traversez la route par un pont piétonnier (vous ne le raterez pas). Nous avons pris l’arrêt Akrotiri. De là nous avons visité la tour des Quatre Vents, la bibliothèque d’Hadrien, nous avons déambulé dans les ruelles escaladant l’acropole. Nous sommes ensuite montés jusqu’au Parthénon. Après nous nous sommes promenés sur le Pnyx et l’Aéropage. Nous avons ensuite repris le train direction le musée d’Athènes. Ensuite retour au port. En une journée c’est possible de faire tout ça en profitant bien des monuments. Le guide bleu a, surtout à Athènes, été une véritable bible.
A Olympie, nous avons loué une voiture. Plusieurs agences se trouvent à deux pas du bateau. Mais descendez tôt du bateau. Vous ne serez pas les seuls à avoir cette idée. Ensuite direction Olympie.
A Messine nous avons aussi loué une voiture, juste en face du bateau (nous l’avions réservée juste avant de partir). Le matin, visite de Taormine. Après-midi, direction l’Etna et petite balade à pied. Nous avions imprimé les itinéraires sur viamichelin.
A Limassol nous avions été obligés de prendre une excursion organisée car nous n’avions trouvé aucune agence de location à proximité du port. C’était chouette (Kourium et Apollon). Par, à Omodos, quel attrape touriste. On vous y laisse un temps fou alors que le village est si vite vu. Bien sûr on vous proposera d’acheter des broderies encore une fois bien kitsch.
A Rhodes, visite de la ville le matin (à 5 min à pied du bateau), visite du palais des chevaliers. L’après-midi, après une pause dans le bateau, nous avons loué une voiture, direction Lindos.
Je ne pense pas avoir oublié d’escale.
Nous sommes très content de notre programme. Vos enfants devraient également adorer.

Au fait, je vois que vous habitez Marseille. Nous ne sommes pas loin: je travaille à Aubagne, mon mari à Aix et nous habitons Bandol! Mais dès septembre nous déménageons sur St-Maximin.

Athènes, avons déjà visité, je pense donc que nous flanerons à la Plaka - au fait, avions plutot pris le métro, très bien aussi.
Olympie :pour la location de voiture, j'en conclus que vous avez loué sur place, pas de location par avance ?
est-ce facile de se déplacer là-bas ?
je me demande comment on peut payer dans tous ces pays où l'euro n'a pas cours : comment avez-vous fait si vous vouliez acheter en dehors des boutiques où les guides costa ont voulu vous emmener et pour payer la location de voiture...

Pour parler un peu du Concordia, le hamman, jacuzzi, sauna sont-ils gratuits et accessibles aux ados (17 et 15 ans) ?
Y a-t-il un restaurant plus calme (moins bruyant) qu'un autre en soirée ?
allons laisser notre voiture à nice aéroport et utiliser le transfert gratuit sur savone : savez-vous s'il y a plusieurs départs car je préfèrerais qu'on arrive tôt à savone pour embarquer rapidement.
si je me souviens bien, j'ai lu que le terminal de croisière là-bas était très bien mais que pour s'y restaurer, c'est payant avant d'embarquer, exact ?
et pour les pourboires, j'ai aussi compris que maintenant c'était obligatoire au forfait fixé par costa, pas moyen de donner un pourboire particulier (ou alors en plus) au personnel que vous voulez remercier plus particulièrement - sur msc, nous avons pu le faire et étions contents de pouvoir donner un pourboire général (inférieur aux recommandations) et donner en personne des pourboires à certains membres du personnel qui se sont occupés de nous pdt la croisière.
au fait, ne sommes pas de marseille même, mais sur la côte à ensues la redonne (pas facile à localiser qd on ne connait pas la région, marseille tt le monde connait !)

A Rome un bus gratuit Costa nous dépose à 10 min à pied de la gare. Nous avions réservé par Internet. C’est plus pratique. Par contre ils avaient du retard. Si vous avez peur du train, Costa propose aussi le forfait Rome en liberté. Vous n’avez que le car qui vous dépose au Vatican. Mais je trouve ça bien cher pour ce que c’est.
A Athènes, une solution consiste à louer une voiture sur le port et se rendre au Cap Sounion. C’est ce qu’on fera lors de notre prochaine escale là-bas.
A Olympie nous avons bien loué sur place. La route est très facile pour aller jusqu’au site. Nous avons garé dans le centre ville. Imprimez tout de même le trajet sur Internet ou essayer de vous procurer une carte. Vaut mieux tout anticiper. Nous avions le guide bleu sur la Grèce. L’essentiel des routes y était indiqué et tout s’est très bien passé.
Concernant la monnaie, nous avions retiré un peu d’argent en Grèce. C’est plus prudent. Mais habituellement nous utilisions notre carte. Si vous avez la possibilité de réserver des voitures par Internet c’est la meilleure solution. En Grèce, la plupart des boutiques pour touristes acceptent l’euro.
Nous ne connaissons pas du tout la Turquie. J’espère que nous y passerons lors d’une prochaine croisière. Je pense que vous trouverez des conseils sur le forum.
Si je me souviens bien (j’ai un peu tendance à mélanger les compagnies), les hammams et jacuzzis du centre balnéo sont gratuits mais pas mixtes. Les jacuzzis extérieurs sont gratuits. Je m’étais offert un massage du corps au centre de beauté. Ce n’est pas du tout mon habitude mais j’ai vraiment adoré. Ca n’a rien à voir avec ce qu’on peut avoir à Nocibé ou d’autres centres en France. C’est une expérience à connaître. Je pense bien que hammam et jacuzzi sont accessibles aux ados. Même la salle de sport est ouverte à partir de 14 ans. En tout cas ça l’était quand j’avais leur âge. Je ne pense pas que ça ait changé.
En soirée vous ne pourrez choisir votre restaurant. Il existe un restaurant club, qui propose le même menu que le restaurant principal, mais qui est bien plus petit, et payant surtout. Avant, lors de l’embarquement on nous demandait nos préférences pour les places à table. Ca fait 3 ans que je n’ai plus vu ça.
Pour le transfert en autocar je ne pense pas qu’il y ait différents horaires. C’est le point négatif de ce genre de transfert.
Pour midi je ne sais plus comment nous avions fait. Je pense que nous avions mangé sur le bateau (avec la carte club costa nous avons droit à l’embarquement prioritaire et nous avons pu monter assez tôt). Sinon je vous conseille de prendre votre pique nique. Rien ne vous sera servi avant l’embarquement, sauf peut-être quelques biscuits et jus de fruit.
Oui, les pourboires sont fixés. Mais vous pouvez demander à en augmenter ou diminuer certains sans problèmes.

Il y a donc un bus Costa gratuit jusqu'à Rome, bien mais si à cause de la gratuité, ils partent très tard, tout le bénéfice de l'escale va être perdu.

Concenrnant la carte COSTA club comment l'obtient-on svp ?
la seule croisière que ns ayons déjà faite via msc sur 7 nuits/8 jours partait de Venise (sublime ville !) sur bari (bof !), santorin (on a adoré) mykonos (joli aussi) le pirée (athènes) corfou (on s'est perdu pdt 1 heure à la sortie du bateau il faut le faire!), dubrovnik (très joli aussi) et retour venise.
J'ai aimé le concept et ma famille aussi sur le principe mais les ados ont regretté de ne pas avoir rencontré plus de jeunes (surtt des italiens qui ne faisaient aucun effort pour échanger), on n'aime pas trop la foule, mais on avait l'occasion de s'isoler qd on le voulait (il y a une "area relax" à côté de la salle de sports, où dans une ambiance feutrée, musique de fond très relaxante, chaises longues anatomiques en bois, superbe vue à l'avant du navire, on pouvait rester seuls, pas vraiment connu !).
y a t-t-il son équivalent sur le concordia ?
je pense bien que je vais m'offrir un soin, j'en ai encore plus envie suite à votre message, moi non plus je n'en ai pas trop l'habitude mais je me dis qu'avec 3 jours en mer, je vais bien trouver le temps de m'occuper de moi (dur le reste de l'année !).
Je crains d'ailleurs que pdt les jours en mer, les soins soient pris d'assaut : qd l'avez-vous fait ?

N'hésitez pas à poser autant de questions que vous voulez. Ca fait plaisir de pouvoir partager de si belles expériences. Avec MSC je n'ai fait que le Sinfonia. Dans le Concordia vous retrouverez tous les concepts qui vont ont plu sur le MSC. Le bateau est très grand, vous avez plein d'endroits où vous serez au calme sur le pont.
Pour les animations ados je crois que ce n'est pas le pied. Lors de ma première croisière, quand j'avais 13 ans, j'ai voulu tester le club ado et je suis partie après une demi-heure. Tout se faisait en italien et les animateurs se souciaient peu de moi. Certaines filles temptaient de discuter en anglais avec moi mais, à cette époque, je n'avais pas encore réalisé que l'apprentissage de l'anglais était indispensable. Depuis je participe toujours aux animations mais avec les adultes. Les animateurs parlent toutes les langues et je m'y suis toujours amusée comme une folle. Habituellement je déteste la foule mais, à bord des bateaux, je ne louperai pas une seule animation.
Les soins pour le corps sont souvent moins chers durant les escales, d'ailleurs ils vont proposeront des réductions lors des escales. Ce qu'il faut faire c'est que dès que vous avez connaissance d'une réduction qui vous intéresse, vous réservez une séance en fin de journée, juste avant le départ. De toute façon tout le monde doit être à bord au moins une demi heure avant le départ. Ainsi vous ne louperez pas du temps passé à terre.
Concernant les devises, veuillez m'excuser des bêtises que j'ai dit hier. La Grèce est bien en zone euro, c'est évident. Je suis très fatiguée en ce moment à cause de la petite puce qui fini de pousser dans mon ventre. Par contre, à l'agence de location de voitures de Katakolon, ils ne prenaient que de l'espèce. Le mieux est de pré réserver par Internet.
Pour les départs de l'aéroport de Nice il y a plusieurs horaires mais on ne vous laissera pas le choix. Vous pouvez néanmoins tempter de leur téléphoner. La dernière fois nous avions prévu de prendre le train depuis Bandol mais, comme d'habitude, la SNCF était en grève. Heureusement que nous avions notre voiture! Nous l'avons ainsi laissé à l'aéroport, parking le moins cher que nous ayons trouvé.

It’s with immense sadness that I learned this morning of the passing of our friend Nathalie (nadu). Many of us knew her through this forum, which she loved so much. She enjoyed reading your travel stories, joining discussions, sharing her cruise reviews, and offering valuable advice—always with kindness, gentleness, and discretion.
For me, Nathalie was so much more than just a cruise enthusiast. She was a friend, a deeply kind person who was always there to listen, despite the many health challenges she faced with tremendous courage. We corresponded regularly, and sometimes we had the chance to visit each other’s homes or attend the cruise show together with our respective husbands.
We shared a common dream: when we both retired, we had planned to finally go on a cruise together. Life had other plans, and that trip will forever remain a journey we never had the chance to take. That thought weighs heavily on my heart today.
I’ll remember her as a gentle, generous woman who was always ready to help others. Her presence on this forum will leave a huge void, just as her friendship has in my life.
I send my sincerest thoughts to her husband, her family, and all those who had the chance to know her.
Fair winds, Nathalie. I like to think you’re now sailing on an infinitely calm sea, under an eternally blue sky. You’ll remain in our thoughts and hearts every time we talk about cruises or set off on a new journey.

We’re back from this cruise.
Boarding in Dunkirk: The doors opened around 12 PM. Since we were a bit early, I asked if my husband, who uses a walker, could wait inside instead of outside. I left him with the two suitcases and our two backpacks in the small hall while I parked the car in the reserved CFC parking lot for 10 € per day.
The shuttle that was supposed to take people from the parking lot to the model pavilion was supposed to arrive in 5 minutes, but after 15 minutes, nothing. After waiting 15 minutes, I saw a man walking and asked if I could follow him. In 15 minutes, we arrived, and still no sign of the shuttle—it must have passed us. Arrived at the model pavilion.
My husband had already checked in the suitcases with the help of a CFC staff member. The remaining formalities were completed quickly. We were on board by 12:15 PM. Headed to the buffet on deck 11 and waited in a lounge to access our cabin.
At 2 PM, we discovered our balcony cabin on deck 9 at the rear: spacious with a large balcony compared to MSC/COSTA.
Since we were at the rear, cabin 9202, there was always an issue with elevator number 4: "priority."
Elevator number 2 stops at deck 10... and elevator number 3 was often out of order, leaving only number 1 for those with mobility issues to reach the buffet, especially for people who struggle with stairs. Note: only one child on board and lots of "gray hair."
DAY 2: At sea. Lots of activities offered.
Day 3: GOTHENBURG (Sweden). Sunny, 19°C at 11 AM.
Excursion booked with CFC: Gothenburg and Haga for all.
Interesting visit with a great guide. The HAGA district, in our opinion, is full of cobblestones and nothing special, not suitable for people using a cane or wheelchair. Elevator number 3 was out of order again.
Day 4: Copenhagen. 15°C in the morning, showers in the afternoon.
We didn’t book an excursion since we’d already stopped here with CFC in 2025, and based on advice from this forum, we took the hop-on/hop-off bus right in front of the ship. I still went to see the Little Mermaid again.
No TV, but the elevator was fixed.
DAY 5: At sea. Still no TV.
DAY 6: GDANSK (Poland). 15°C, rain all day.
There’s a shuttle to get to the city center.
We took the excursion: Panorama of Gdansk.
The guide left us at the entrance of the city center for 45 minutes, telling us what to visit. Meet-up for the rest of the tour at 3 PM. The bus left at 3:15 PM to cover 10 km to see St. Mary’s Cathedral. We arrived at 4:16 PM... The guide said there are often traffic jams in that direction. We had 10 minutes on site before heading to see the lighthouse and the Westerplatte monument, where we also had 10 minutes.
Many of us wondered why we didn’t do the tour in the opposite direction since they knew there would be traffic...
I went to reception to complain about the organization. The staff member read me the program: we were supposed to start with the lighthouse, then go to the cathedral and stay for 30 minutes before heading to the center of Gdansk for a short guided walk with some free time to buy souvenirs, etc.
The guide did the complete opposite of what was planned and didn’t even give us a guided tour—just dropped us off in the city...
DAY 7: Bornholm Island (Denmark). 14°C, a few sunny spells.
We saw in the excursions that there was a walking tour of RØNNE. So, like many others, we explored on our own. There was a small orchestra welcoming us at the port and two people with city maps. We took the shuttle to leave the port—it ran every 15 minutes. The tourist office was next to the "shuttle bus." A pleasant visit at our own pace.
DAY 8: KIEL (Germany). 18–23°C, nice weather.
We took the "Kiel for all" excursion. Great guide and interesting visits.
The port is in the city, and in 10 minutes, we were in the city center by following a blue line on the ground from the port. Elevator 3 was stuck again... and the TV was back.
DAY 9: At sea. Elevator 3 works.
DAY 10: At sea. Elevator 3 is out of order again...
DAY 11: Disembarkation in Dunkirk.
Cabins had to be vacated by 7:30 AM. Buffet open until 9 AM.
Elevator number 1 was "reserved," leaving only number 2, which doesn’t go up to deck 11... a problem for people with mobility issues who had to cross the entire deck 11 and try to use one of the four working elevators at the front, which were crowded.
My opinion: Interesting stops.
The onboard staff were always welcoming, smiling, and mostly French-speaking.
Evening shows were better than in March/April 2025—better singers, dancers, and presenters, and the costumes were improved.
I liked the "magician" shows less.
There were three onboard lectures by a very cultured person, but they went off-topic and were too historical for my taste. I didn’t attend the other two; my husband went to the second but not the third.
For this cruise, there was a bridge theme, but we’re not players or interested.
We didn’t take a drink package on board—water, coffee, tea, and herbal teas were available.
We had a water leak in our cabin the night before disembarkation. We reported it, and after the technical staff came (with a translator who didn’t speak English), we were asked to leave the cabin for a while for repairs. We went to a lounge, and after 1.5 hours, I checked in at reception. The repair took longer than expected... we had to change cabins... not ideal the night before disembarkation. No balcony cabins were available, so we got an ocean-view cabin, 6075, with a bathtub (impossible for both of us to use). We packed our suitcases, took a shower in our cabin, and moved to the new one. Noise from chairs until 12:30 AM because the cabin was under a lounge, and constant ventilation noise in the hallway... sleep was hard to come by.
Disembarkation: Well organized. We were helped with transporting the two suitcases and bags to the waiting room while I took the shuttle to get the car.

Is it possible to get there on our own (my husband is a wheelchair user), since the MSC excursion to Salisbury is priced at 127 € per person?
There’s also a stop in Rotterdam, and it seems there’s a "miniature village to visit" nearby. Has anyone here been there, and if so, how did you get there?

hi there, a group of friends and I are going on a cruise at the end of June with CFC in Norway. I’d love to get some info on the different stops we’ll be making. Most of them are one-day stops (from around 10 AM to 8 PM on average). Here are the stops: Andalsnes, Trondheim, Honningsvåg, Alta, Hellesylt, Sandane, Austefjorden.

We’ll be sailing on the Renaissance with CFC to southern Norway from July 4 to 11, 2026, departing from Dunkirk (the cruise was booked through "Planète Croisière").
When entering some personal details or pre-selecting options on the CFC website, I’m wondering about the "optional" categories for drinks and WiFi.
I’m actually a bit surprised by these extra charges, as we weren’t used to them on other cruises (Australis in Patagonia; Hurtigruten’s Coastal Express in Norway and Alaska; Rivages du Monde in the Arctic or on the Douro River; a Nile river cruise in Egypt), where we sometimes had access to basic drinks at meals and free WiFi when near land.
Anyway, for those who’ve already taken a CFC cruise on the Renaissance, could you share some advice? Specifically about the most basic drink package, called "Fraîcheur" (238 € for two), which doesn’t seem to be described anywhere. The "Premium" package seems excessive (490 € for two for the week) for light drinkers.
As for WiFi, it’s 10 € per day per person. While I find that price acceptable for parking our car in Dunkirk, it feels overpriced here (especially since it was free on the Nordlys "Coastal Express" just 3 or 4 years ago).
So, I’d love to hear from experienced cruisers who’ve been on this ship!

As promised, here’s my review of the cruise I took from the 5th to the 19th on the MSC Virtuosa.
As you know, I had initially booked a cruise with Mein Schiff departing from Dubai (from Dubai to Cape Town). It was a 22-day cruise. Due to the issues in the Persian Gulf, my cruise was canceled by Mein Schiff.
So, we started looking for a Plan B because we really wanted to go. Especially my wife, who had just had a minor procedure and needed some rest. Since she had already taken time off, she was determined to travel. However, we were looking for an affordable Plan B since we weren’t sure when Mein Schiff or the airline would reimburse us.
While browsing online, I found a 15-day cruise departing from Pointe-à-Pitre (including flights, transfers, the cruise, and drinks) for a price of 1,200 € in a Fantastica balcony cabin. We thought, *Why not?*
I should mention that I’m not usually a big fan of MSC. My last experience with them was post-Covid (I took two cruises, one in 2021 and another in 2022), and it was honestly a disaster. We didn’t want to repeat that, but after talking to Catherine, who told me she was very happy with a short Christmas cruise, we decided to give it a try.
I have to say, I was left speechless. Honestly, the cruise was absolutely perfect. There’s nothing to complain about (or just a few minor details). In terms of service and food, I felt like I was on a premium cruise line. I’d even say MSC has nothing to envy from some of those companies. While premium lines like Holland, Celebrity, and Royal are cutting back on services, I think MSC has made huge improvements. Seriously, I wasn’t expecting this at all. You’ll see what I mean as we chat more.
I won’t do a full review like I usually do because there weren’t many stops:
1. We boarded in Pointe-à-Pitre
2. We stopped in Saint-Martin
3. Then it was a direct crossing to the Azores...
This cruise was really about relaxing, even if it’s not the kind of trip we usually take.
First off, I’m not a big fan of "flight and cruise" packages. I asked if we could leave two days early, but they said it wasn’t possible. We had to take the flight, then the bus, and board the ship directly.
It’s not really my thing, but given the price we paid and since we really wanted to relax, we thought, *Why not?*
Here’s the itinerary:
Boarding in Pointe-à-Pitre
Saint-Martin
Five days at sea
The Azores
Four days at sea
Hamburg
One day at sea
Le Havre
But as I mentioned, it wasn’t about the itinerary. It was really about taking a break and unwinding. Honestly, I came back thrilled.
We’re stopping over in Rovinj this coming May, and since we’ve already visited the main sights (port, church, etc.), is there a walk we can do on our own—no boat needed—that would fill a morning?

A few months ago, CFC put the EN VOGUE experience on sale, departing from Dunkirk.
I booked this package to test the boat and onboard services for myself.
I’d read a lot of reviews mentioning numerous issues on board, so I wanted to see for myself what it was really like…
Okay, I’ll stop rambling…
The package included boarding at 6 PM on Friday, dinner, a show, an overnight stay, and breakfast.
We chose an interior cabin for this experience—since the boat wasn’t leaving the dock, we didn’t see the point in paying more… All in all, it cost 130 € per person.
My mom joined us; she got the same cabin for 130 € with no single occupancy supplement.
We’d checked in online to board faster.
We took the train to DUNKIRK, then a taxi to the shuttle pavilion—7 € for the ride.
When we arrived at the pavilion, we were told to wait because there was a connection issue with check-in. Great start…
After about ten minutes, we were finally allowed to proceed.
At the counter, they said they didn’t have our cabin cards and no record of our check-in… Very odd.
With no solution, they put us on the bus and said we’d sort it out at reception. Perfect.
We went through security, and they confiscated our water bottles—never seen that before! Then they said my mom had a corkscrew in her bag, so they searched it… but there was no corkscrew. Total amateur hour… They eventually dropped it.
We got on the bus for a ten-minute ride…
We boarded the ship with a crew member and headed to reception.
Turns out, we weren’t the only ones in this situation.
The nightmare began… Only two staff members were handling all the issues, and everything seemed complicated.
They told my mom her cabin had been given to someone else 😲.
That was the last straw…
It took forever—they had to redo the entire check-in.
Finally, they told my mom her cabin was good to go; they’d mixed her up with someone else… After a solid half-hour, we could finally head to our cabin.
I’m determined to test everything: the pool, jacuzzi, show, restaurant, spa, etc…

We received a promotion from our CFC agency offering cruises at up to 40-100% off, and among other details: CFC organizes parking for departures from Dunkirk.
"Unattended parking located about 12 minutes away, fenced off with barriers, at a rate of 10 € per day. Drop off passengers and luggage at the Model Pavilion, and a CFC shuttle will take you from the parking lot to the Model Pavilion every 15-20 minutes. Same for disembarkation. You can book through your agency or on their website. No refunds if the booking is canceled; payment is due at reservation."

In June we’re taking a cruise called "Pearls of the Baltic" on board Renaissance CFC Cruises—with stops in Kiel (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Rønne (Bornholm), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Gothenburg (Sweden).
This layover in Gothenburg doesn’t really inspire me—could you tell me what’s worth seeing? Are there locals offering excursions around the area by van right when you leave the port, like you often see on Caribbean cruises?
I saw there’s a hop-on hop-off bus, but I’m not sure if there’s a stop near the terminal.
