Next steps after transcription of Franco-Cameroonian marriage

Hi everyone,

Please, I need your expert advice. I’m Cameroonian, married to a Frenchman of Cameroonian origin. My husband just received a message saying our marriage certificate has been properly transcribed and that copies will be sent to his local town hall via diplomatic pouch.

I’d like to know the details of what comes next so I can apply for my long-stay visa. Also, I’m about to get a passport—can I use my ID that still has my maiden name, or do I have to get a new ID with my married name before applying for a passport? Basically, will getting a passport with my maiden name now cause problems later in the process? I really don’t want to deal with the hassle of getting a new ID right now.

Thanks
Hermine

Hi there, congratulations on your transcription! Next, check the website to see which documents you need to submit for the visa application. There will also be some medical exams to take, I think in Yaoundé through the OFII. You can get your passport with your maiden name without any issues, I believe.

Congrats, how long did it take you to get your transcription? Check their website for the documents you need to provide.

Wow, congratulations Hermine! I’m still waiting. To get ahead of things, I’ve already started filling out my visa application on France Visa. By the way, how many months should I request for a long-stay visa? There are 3 options: between 3 and 6 months; between 6 months and a year; over a year. What should I choose? I checked "over a year" since I’m planning to settle there. For those who’ve already gone through this with France Visa, what did you pick?
HE Herminew2 ·
Hi purplelilac, I hope your transcription won’t be long in coming either. I really have no idea how long to put on the document—I haven’t started filling it out yet. Does your passport have your maiden name or your married name?

Congratulations! Hope it goes quickly for me too.

I don’t think the passport having your maiden name will be a reason for refusal.

About 4 months late.

Cool, that means we're more or less on the same timeline. Keep me posted on what happens next, please. If I could get your number, we could chat more easily since we have the same timing.

Hi Purplelilac Hope you're doing well, how's your process coming along? My husband's town hall still hasn't received the transcribed act or the family record book. How about you?

Hi Hermine, I’m currently waiting for the OFII call for the medical exams. Hopefully it won’t take too long.

Has the consulate already notified you that they’ve transcribed the certificate? If so, I think you should count on about 3–4 weeks for your husband to receive it. But I read a comment from a French guy on this forum who said he asked the consulate to give a copy of the transcription to his wife here in Douala so she could apply for her visa, and that’s what they did. Ask your husband to tell them the same thing...

Hey gorgeous, he’ll get it eventually. Don’t worry. In the meantime, you’ll get your passport sorted. Don’t worry
HE Herminew2 ·
Hi purplelilac, how are you? Did you finish your procedure? I’m still stuck on the passport—express passports have become way too complicated now. But my husband already received the transcribed marriage certificate and the family record book from his town hall. So I’m moving at a snail’s pace, but I’m moving forward. Did you finish with the OFII formalities?

Hi Hermine, I’ve finished everything. All good, visa in hand. I’m packing my bags to join my husband. Hang in there, sis—passports are like magic these days, even express ones take forever to come through.
HE Herminew2 ·
Wow, that’s amazing, congratulations, my love! The procedures there aren’t long at all—you got your visa in just one month, that’s really great. Is the French test still required?

Thanks Hermine 😊😊

There’s no French test anymore. Just a urine test and chest X-ray.

Hi miss, when can you pick up your birth certificate at the consulate?
HE Herminew2 ·
When I went to submit the paperwork for the transcription with my husband after our wedding, I asked if I could get my certificate back. They said yes, that they didn’t need it anymore.
Hermine
SA Sarahmiss Regular ·
Oh wow, had you already verified the authenticity of your birth certificate?
HE Herminew2 ·
Yes sarahmiss, I asked the question before going ahead
Hermine

Ah, okay, thanks for the info! I’ve already submitted my transcription request—I’m just waiting for them to finish transcribing it.
HE Herminew2 ·
You're right if you've already filed—just wait now. I'm really frustrated by the difficulties in getting an express passport these days.

Good evening miss, I’d also like to renew my passport express! How does that work, miss? How much does express processing cost? And how long does it take to get it back, miss?
K2 K2lizy Regular ·
Be careful, girls, with that passport thing. They’re stopping people now, and a lot of them take the money and don’t follow through. So stay vigilant.
HE Herminew2 ·
Hey love, for my passport they asked me to wait a bit because it’s really hectic right now with express passports. As soon as it’s sorted, I’ll keep you posted

Good evening miss, got it! So no choice for an express passport! Gotta wait! Massa! Let’s hope things move forward soon.
PU Purplelilac Regular ·
Oh wow, does that mean even express passports aren't getting processed at all right now?
HE Herminew2 ·
Most express passport networks are currently suspended; they’re banned for the time being.

hi miss, how many weeks did you wait after the visits? I’m already at 3 weeks

Hey Purplelilac, After months of waiting, I finally got my passport. But now my transcription is over 3 months old, and the required documents ask for a transcription that’s no more than 2 months old. How can I get a new one quickly?
Hermine

Hi there, I’d suggest asking your husband to request a new certified copy of your marriage certificate—either online in Nantes (it’ll be faster) or at the embassy. I’d recommend Nantes.
