Nous partons en Indonésie pour le mois de décembre, et pour environ 1 mois.
On est en couple, et allons rejoindre une amie.Ce sera aussi une "pause" au milieu de notre road trip en Australie pour 2 ans.
On ne connait pas du tout l'Indo, donc si vous avez des coups de coeur, des experiences a partager, ce sera bienvenue!
On a encore aucune idée du périple, en sachant que c'est grand, et qu'un mois c est relativement court, on aimerait quand même voir tt ça au moins dans les grandes lignes.
On m'a dit que pour arriver, histoire d'atterir tranquille et le temps de se retrouver, Sanur était pas mal...touristique, mais moins que Kuta, a voir.
Si vous avez des bon plans, bonnes guest house, bon coins reculés ou plan pêche....le prix en moyenne pour une loc de voiture?

On compte bouger, mais on ne sait pas exactement où...Je crois que Flores est pas mal pour la plongée?
Mon copain fait de la pêche sous-marine, on adore pêcher, alors pourquoi pas trouver des pêcheurs pour nous amener sur îles et bon spots?

Sinon les spectacles de marionnettes (wayang) tu trouveras ton bonheur sur Yogyakarta (Java centre) qui est une ville réputée pour sa culture et de nombreux spectacles.
Sinon moi je vis a Sumatra Ouest et mon mari est originaire d'un petit village de pecheurs :Nagari Sungai Pinang", si vous passez dans le coin :)
Je suis effectivement allée faire un tour sur ton lien, et "Authentique Sumatra" est tout a fait le type d'endroit que nous cherchons!

Pour Lombok, j'ai reperé aussi des endroits hors des sentiers battus, parfait pour la pêche!
Le probleme est que nous resterons en Indonesie pour 1 mois, et qu'il v falloir cibler pour que ça ne soit pas la course, ce qui ne sert a rien.
Je suis partisanne du "on verra sur place", car il y a les rencontres et le bouche a oreille, mais pour 1 mois de voyage c'est un peu court...Donc on va essayer de penser au moins a une boucle, meme si tout ca pourra changer une fois sur place.
Vu que nous arrivons à Denpesar, on commencera par visiter quelques coins de Bali, et pourquoi pas enchainer sur Lombok?

Oui je connais les îles Gili, c'est assez (très) touristique mais très beau et reposant si on s'éloigne un peu du centre ou dès lors que l'on choisi de dormir sur Gili Meno ou Air.

Je pense qu'en un mois vous devriez rester sur Bali/Lombok sinon ça va vous faire courir.

Je vis actuellement sur Kuta Lombok, apres avoir passer 5 ans sur Bali.
J etais alors sur Sanur les dernieres annees, qui reste pour moi le coin le plus sympa de la cote, loin de la folie glauque de Kuta Bali.
suivant votre budget, vous pourrez trouver des chambres sympa au flashback hotel sur sanur (http://www.flashbacks-chb.com/), petit et cosy. tres sympa est en pleins centre. De la vous pourrez aller faire un tour sur le nord de Kuta.
Meilleur marche, Gina guesthouse, mais il faut louer un scooter car un peu excentree.
Si vous voulez bouger un peu, j ai des amis francais qui travaille en agence de tourisme, c est tres sympa et cela permet de voir pas mal de choses sans perdre de temps. Il sont sympa et tres competent.

Moi je dirais qu en faisant un tour vers Java est, vois le kawa ijen (impressionnant) et quelques site aux alentrous, plus une decouverte deBali, 1 semaine et demi sont suffisante autour de Bali.
Apres bien sur je vous conseillerez de venir nous voir sur kuta Lombok.
Cote Peche, c est parfait...que ce soit peche au arpon, ou virer en bateau avec des pecheurs locaux, vous serez ravie.
De plus c'est un coin magnifique, que les routards apprecient pour se reposer apres avoir pas mal barouder.

Je répond a votre question quand aux tarifs de location de voiture (j avais zappé).
Sur Bali, il faut compter dans les 250 000 rph par jours (soit 21 euros), sans chauffeur. Il faut bien négocier, mais je vous fais confiance !
Sur Lombok, c est un peu plus cher (moins de d'offre), et on vous demanderas 350 000 rph (soit 30 euros), toujours sans chauffeur.
Par contre attention, il vous faut impérativement un permis international (que vous ferais gratuitement auprès de votre préfecture...cela prend 1 a 2 semaine).
Sur Bali, il faut vous attendre a etre harceler par la police, des blancs conduisant un véhicule (scooter ou voiture) sont un gagne pain énormes pour la police balinaise. la corruption malheureusement fait rage.
Si vous avez les papiers du vehicule (surat...ce qui est pour nous comme la carte grise) et votre permis international, vous etes en regles, donc pas de backshich...mais ce n est pas pour autant qu il ne tenterons pas de vous faire payer...il ne faut pas ceder, si vous n est pas en tort et que vous etes en regle, ils comprendront qu ils ne peuvent rien faire et vous laisserons partir...une astuce...pas de panique, parler avec eux, plaisanter, toujours avec le sourire, et ils comprendront que vous etes au courant, donc vous laisserons partir plus vite.
Il faudra aussi faire avec une circulation intense et anarchique...il faut un temps d adaptation pour être un peu serein...il faut toujours être a 200% de concentration, mais ca passe.
Sur Lombok, vous n aurez en général pas ces déconvenus...les policiers sont plus tranquille, et ont moins l habitude de voir des touristes...du coup lorsque que je me fais arrêter, ce qui est rare, c est plus pour une courte scéance photo, afin que je policier puisse dire qu il a un ami blanc...
Quand a la circulation, il faut toujours faire attention egalement, mais peu de trafic, du coup c est un peu plus facile.

après sur Kuta lombok, c est très sympa de louer un scooter pour se balader...les routes sont calme, et l on profite ainsi pleinement des paysages.

il est en effet possible de louer une voiture sur Bali et de prendre le ferry avec.
Tout d'abord, eviter de dire au loueur que vous partez sur Lombok avec, les balinais n aiment pas voir les touristes partir de leur ile, et vous sortirons un panflet comme quoi c est tres dangereux, que les sasak sont tous des voleurs, ou encore que de toute facon il n y a aucun hotel a Bali !!(j ai eu cet argument l annee derniere...mort de rire).
Après cela a un cout, car il faut payer 650 000 rph (soit 55 euros) pour un aller avec le véhicule (peut importe le nombre de passager), et idem au retour.Cela va après dépendre de combien de temps vous penser louer la voiture. Cela peut être rentable sur une loc longue durée, car c est moins cher a Bali, (en gros 100 000 rph de moins, donc si vous louer 13 jours ou plus vous rentabiliser).
Il est egalement possible de louer des scooter, la on est a 25 000 rph (soit 2,10 euros) la journee, en négociant bien...(si vous choisissez cette option, j ai un bon plan, a 500 000 rph le mois sur Sanur, du coup si vous loue plus de 20 jours, cela vous reviens moins cher). Dans ce cas faites le moi savoir, et je pourrais vous mettre en contact avec mon loueur, qui n est pas très loin du flashback).
Pour le ferry, c est 101 000 rph l aller par personne (comme pour l avoiture, si vous etes deux sur le scooter, vous ne paye que pour le scooter).
Les routes entre Sanur et padang bay, et entre Lembar et Kuta lombok sont ok. celle sur Bali, une partie reste en travaux, mais ca passe bien.
Il faut compter un peu plus d une heure entre Sanur et padang bay, et idem entre Lembar et Kuta Lombok.
Pour ce qui est d un bateau allant sur plusieurs iles sur quelques jours, je ne connais pas, mais je vais me renseigner...je vous dirais ca.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before.
