Je pars deux mois en Indonésie cet été et suis dans la plus grande indécision quant à l'itinéraire à suivre. Évidemment tout me fait envie et j'ai peur de ne pas parvenir à choisir.. J'aimerais l'avis de personnes connaissant bien ce pays et ayant donc une vision d'ensemble. Je voyage en sac à dos, j'arrive et repars de jakarta. Je ne veux pas aller trop vite (mon défaut habituel) mais essayer de prendre mon temps à chaque étape.
En gros je pensais consacrer environ un mois à java-bali-lombok (+flores?) et un mois à sulawesi, ou sumatra, ou borneo.
Cela vous semble-t-il disproportionné, faut il prévoir davantage pour Bali par exemple... Bref, j'attends vos conseils. Par ailleurs quels sont les meilleurs sites pour le snorkeling (pas plongée) ?
je suis actuellement en voyage eu asie du sud est (1 an) et j'ai passe deux mois en indonesie (java, bali et sumatra) je dois dire que j'ai adore ce pays et j'hesite a modifier mon itineraire pour retourner 1 mois a sumatra (voila c'est fait tu connais ma preference)...
bon concernant l'itineraire, tout depends de ta facon de voyager... c'est a dire si tu te contente d'une journee en deux par endroit ou si tu es du genre escargots comme moi...je ne trouve pas que c'est un defaut, je prefere en faire moins mais mieux.
perso, je trouve cela un peu juste 1 mois pour faire java bali et lombock (ce n'est meme pas la peine pour flores)... ton voyage risque de se transformer en marathon... d'autant plus que l'indonesie est toute en longueur et les transports sont plus tot de qualite et vitesse moyenne... il y a la solution de l'avion mais saches que la majorite des compagnies indo sont sur listes noires... heureusement, air asia propose un grand nombre de connections bon marches... seuleument attention a ne pas oublier de payer les taxes de departs non incluses dans le billet...(bien se renseigner avant)
bref, beaucoup d'endroits sont attachants. ainsi je ne suis jamais arrivee jusqu'a lombock car j'ai pris racine a jemeluk (cote nord est de bali, pour le logement je conseille halina bungalows 085237680711, derriere le club de plongee eco dive) qui est un superbe spot pour le snorkelling ( tulamben super egalement, frustree de rester en surface je me suis mise a la plongee). je sais que les iles guilli sont egalement tres reputees pour le snorkelling (attention au courant).... disons que tu peux consacrer 2 semaines ou plus a bali mais moins serait dommage car l'ile est magnifique bien qu'extrement touristique.... il faut bien choisir son village si tu ne veux pas avoir l'impresssion d'etre a pavallas les flots... pour se deplacer le scooter c'est pas mal, moi je suis une mauviette alors je prenais les bemos...
java, est relativement facile a voyager contrairement a sumatra, car plus plate, il y a une ligne de train, mais les logements sont beaucoup plus cher qu'a bali et sumatra... et dur de marchander... conseil, pour bromo et ijen. ne prends pas de tour organise. grossiere erreur de ma part... alors qu'il est possible en realite de partager les frais de vehicules avec d'autres voyageurs avec la liberte en plus et le temps de contempler ses magnifiques paysages (et une pensee particuliere pour les mineurs du crateres ijen, si tu y va, dis que ton appareil photo ne fonctionne pas donc refuse de payer la taxe photo, et demande en chemin a un mineur de faire office de guide meme si ce n'est pas necessaire et file lui un petit billet car leurs conditions de travail sont extremement rude) yogyakarta c'est pas mal et c'est une bonne base pour les temples de borobodur et prabanam (tarifs eleves mais dommage de passer a cote sans les visiter)...
selon tes envies disons entre 2 et 3 semaines... certains ne font qu'un passage eclair d'une semaine...
borneo, kalimantan, je ne connais pas... certains adorent certains sont decus... saches que les deplacements sont consequents (tout comme sulawesi)... pour gagner du temps ou rejoindre certaines regions beaucoup recourent a l'avion et ce n'est pas donne... j'ai rencontre des gens decus de sulawesi. dans le sens que tout est payant... on te demande des taxes pour tout et n'importe quoi.... a verifier...
sumatra.... j'adore... tres bon marche. pulau weh (ile en face de banda aceh, les vestiges du tsunami de 2004 meritent le detour) est tres sympa, pas mal pour le snorkelling, ambiance tranquille. le lac toba, incontournable, le meilleur rapport qualite prix, maria inn (081228227256, lui passer avant un coup de fil), berastagi et ses volcans facile d'acces, bukit lawang et ses orang outant (homme de la foret en bahasa), bref si tu restes dans la region de medan 3 semaines suffisent... je ne suis pas allee aux mentawai islands, tsunami 2010 oblige...si tu vas plus au sud prevois 1 mois.
question transports ne pas etre trop ambitieux, c'est assez lents...
je te conseille egalement de te mettre au bahasa a ton arrivee... c'est super simple a apprendre et cela permets d'engager le contact avec les locaux... l'anglais ce n'est pas leur fort... et il n'y a pas mieux pour le marchandage.... aussi, les avions en partance de bali sont relativements cher... pour rejoindre medan, je suis partie de surabaya (est java, 10h de bus), le tarif etait 3fois moins chers... cela depends de son budget, ce genre de choix... disons que j'etais a 60 euros pres...
tres juste... perso, jétais deja en asie du sud est et je suis entree en indo par la voie maritime. mais je me suis dit que le meilleur bon plan etait de prendre un vol pour KL ou singapour et ensuite de prendre une connexion pour la region díndonesie de son choix. air asia vient dóuvrir une ligne paris KL et les tarifs sont vraiment avantageux...

ex : en arrivant à l'aéroport de makassar , 8h du soir , un "guide" voulait me conduire en 4/4 à rantépao (800km) , de suite , toute la nuit sur la route .... : il y avait soi-disant la dernière cérémonie funéraire de l'année ....! (je te dis pas le prix ....)
j'ai pris un bus ...qqs jours après ...et en me promenant en scooter , je suis tombé sur des cérémonies (sans guides), les gens très gentils ,
(à rantépao c le bizeness des cérémonies ...et des "guides ")
mais tu peux les voir seul ( ou avec des gens rencontrés à l'hotel) , pas de problèmes , prévoir cadeau style cartouche de clopes ou autre

pense à trainer ...tu y retournera plusieurs fois si ça te plait! t'as tout le temps ...
j'ai croisé des gens qui y venaient 5...6...7..fois
tu peux mettre une "alliance" si tu veux etre plus tranquille (je ne pense pas que cela suffise...) , ils sont très dragueurs ...
les plus beaux snorkelings (pour l'instant): sur le petit bateau entre florès et lombok
les prochaines fois le pense aller vers le nord sulawesi , les moluques , l'ile de sumba ... timor ...kalimatan ...
rien que Java mériterait au minimum un mois. avis perso : Bali j'éviterai. question de goût tout dépend ce que tu cherches durant ton séjour.
ensuite tu peux consacrer l'autre mois à Sumatra ou Sulawesi ou Kalimantan
l'archipel est immense et très diversifié. Regarde la superficie de Sumatra et Kalimantan......en te concentrant sur deux iles, tu en auras déjà plein les yeux.

Justement Ragamuffin, comme tu as l'air d'avoir une vue d'ensemble sur l'archipel indonésien, que conseillerais-tu de faire en priorité en seulement deux mois ?
Javajeanne (et les autres), y a-t-il des sites de snorkeling vraiment bien en Indonésie, par vraiment bien j'entends aussi enchanteur et idyllique que Palawan par exemple ? J'entends beaucoup parler de Sulawesi ici et là... de ce point de vue c'est mieux que Florès selon vous ?
moi pour le snorkelling, j'ai adore tulamben et jemeluk, pas besoin de bateau pour se rendre sur les sites... de la, j'ai eu par la suite l'amour de la plongee...

Je reviens d'un voyage de 3 semaines en Indonésie et j'ai l'impression qu'un mois pour Java, Bali, Lombok et Flores c'est trop peu.
En 3 semaines, je n'ai pu faire que Java et Bali. Il faut être conscient que la circulation sur Java est très lente, en moyenne 40km/h et qu'à l'approche des grandes agglomérations les bouchons sont légion. Par exemple, à certaines heures de la journée il faut plus d'1h30 pour sortir de Java et il nous a fallu 13 heures de route pour parcourir 400km en comptant un arrêt pour manger et un arrêt à une station service.
Quant à Bali, la circulation est beaucoup plus fluide et comme l'île est bien plus petite, elle est plus vite parcourue.
En fait, tout dépend de ce que tu souhaites visiter et à la vitesse où tu veux le faire.
Pour le snorkeling à Bali, je te conseille le nord. Les plages sont en sable noir et il y a moins de touristes que dans le centre ou le sud. Personnellement, j'ai fait quelques temps à Pemuteran et on peut sans autre y faire du snorkeling. Si tu n'as pas ton matériel avec toi, tu peux en louer un peu partout et il y a même des bateaux qui t'amènent dans des réserves.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
