Hi, Do you have any tips for renting a car in Croatia? I’m leaving from central Zagreb on June 6th and returning to Dubrovnik Airport on June 19th, so a total of 14 days. I’ve got a quote for 655 € for an automatic economy car, including two drivers, GPS, zero-excess insurance, ferries, and cross-border travel. Pretty much everything, really. What do you think? Any agencies you’d recommend? Thanks! Marie

Try Auto Europe https://fr.autoeurope.ca You’ll find much better prices there—I ran your simulation. Also, if you’ve booked flight tickets with Transat or Air Canada, for example, you can sometimes get certain deals by continuing with a car rental through them.

Check out Nova Rent a Car: https://www.novarentacar.hr/ I’m renting a category 2 car here in September for 3 weeks for around 380 €...

No need to take the insurance with excess waiver if you have a Gold MasterCard. Your card’s insurance covers the excess waiver in case of any issues

Hi there,

It’s definitely way too expensive.

Compare here:

AutoEurope is still just a middleman, so you might as well compare all of them.

A GPS is unnecessary—if you’ve got a smartphone app or even Google Maps, that’s much better. Coverage is total and free.

Anyway, GPS coverage isn’t great in Croatia. If you stick to main roads, it’s fine, but if you take smaller ones, it won’t be much help.

Also, note that you’ll need to add 150 € in one-way fees.

Hello, After reading some of your posts, you seem clear and straightforward, so I hope you don’t mind me reaching out. We’re planning to rent a car in Split for about two weeks. We have a debit/credit card, but we fell victim to a scam in Sardinia last year—taking advantage of the language barrier, the seller claimed our card wasn’t working and forced us to take out a 400 € insurance policy we didn’t need. When we refused to hand over the keys (with our luggage in tow after a full day of travel), we eventually gave in, thinking we’d sort it out later, but it was a dead end. In Split, we’d really like to avoid reliving that experience. Do you happen to know any rental companies that don’t pull this kind of thing? Thanks in advance. Best regards,

Hi, We rented a car with Adriagate (in 2018) and everything went well. https://www.adriagate.com/Croatie-fr/Location-de-voiture-Croatie
