Renting a car in Montreal and returning it in NY

Hi everyone,

I’d like to rent a car in Montreal on July 21st but return it in New York on the 28th.

I’ve checked all the rental companies and used comparison sites, but it doesn’t seem possible.

Does anyone know how I can make this work? It seems really weird that you can’t rent a car in Canada and return it in the US... 😐

Thanks so much in advance for your help! 🙂

Hi! In theory, if you go through big rental agencies like Hertz or Enterprise, it should work... But the fees might be really high... The easiest option might be to call the agencies directly

I did this a while back (with Avis Rent a Car), but it seems much harder now.

One option is to look for a border town where you could switch cars. If the distances aren’t too long, you return the car on one side and pick up another on the other. I did a quick simulation—it seems doable in Niagara. Just watch out for the prices!!!!

No matter how much I search rental options and use comparison sites, it just doesn’t seem possible.

If it *is* possible (and I have my doubts...), it’ll be *very* expensive...

According to the site below, it *is* possible—but wow, the cost! Cheers.

Yeah, we’re not going through Niagara either

And it works ;) But it’s more expensive.

This is already a solution that works! For the price, try this: rent in Niagara on the US side, return in Buffalo, and pick up another car to get to NY. It might waste some time, but if it’s really cheaper...
