Avant de demander formellement à devenir un membre d'Auroville, vous devez bien vous informer sur les conditions pour joindre Auroville. Vous pouvez obtenir ces informations au bureau de l' " Entry Group " à Auroville, par courrier ou par email de n'importe quel centre international pour Auroville (AVI Centers) ou sur le site d'Auroville sur internet
Il est attendu de vous que vous veniez d'abord à Auroville pour une visite de trois mois avant de decider de joindre l'expérience.( Veuillez contacter le Service des visiteurs :Guests Service, c/o Solar kitchen, Auroville 605 101, Tamil Nadu, India. Email :avguests@auroville.org.in car il est plus prudent de se renseigner sur la disponibilité et les prix des chambres d'hôte avant de venir).
Pour les étrangers, un visa touristique peut être obtenu de la haute commission, de l'ambassade ou du consulat de l'Inde le plus proche de votre domicile.
Vous devez prévoir un entretien avec l'Entry Group vers la fin de votre visite à Auroville afin de confirmer officiellement votre intention de joindre. On vous demandera de remplir une application.
Pour les étrangers c'est l'Entry Group qui arrange la lettre de recommandation, demandant à la haute commission, à l'ambassade ou au consulat de l'Inde dans votre pays de vous délivrer un Entry Visa(visa d'entrée vous permettant d'obtenir un permis résidentiel en Inde). Vous êtes obligé de retourner dans votre pays d'origine pour obtenir cet Entry Visa car la procedure d'admission ne peut commencer sans ce visa. Si votre decision de joindre est prise après votre depart d'Auroville vous pouvez toujours ecrire à l'Entry Group pour obtenir la lettre de recommandation pour votre Entry Visa.
Un permis résidentiel est accordé à la condition d'être travailleur bénévole à Auroville (hononary volontary worker). Le gouvernement indien exige que les individus de plus de 16 ans fournissent un test negatif du S.I.D.A. provenant d'une institution reconnue par le World Health Organization (consulter Auroville International France pour en avoir la liste) .
Ce test du SIDA devra être délivré moins d'un mois avant votre date d'arrivée en Inde pour être reconnu. Ce test peut aussi être fait en Inde(consulter l'Entry Group pour precisions).
Exemption de taxes sur l'importation des biens et effets personnels
Les étrangers qui viennent en Inde avec un ‘Entry Visa’ (visa d'entrée) pour s'installer à Auroville pour un an au moins, peuvent importer leurs biens et effets personnels sans payer de frais de douane, en un seul et unique chargement, à condition que cette expédition soit faite dans l'année de leur arrivée en Inde.
Dans les quarante-huit heures de votre arrivée à Auroville, si vous êtes étranger vous êtes requis de remplir un "arrival report " (formulaire d'arrivée) et de vous enregistrer au "visa service"(service des visas).
Si vous venez dans l'intention de rester et que vous avez obtenu le visa requis vous devriez alors prendre contact avec l'Entry Group pour commencer votre période probatoire(Newcomer period).
Si vous êtes un citoyen indien desirant joindre Auroville, vous êtes prié de vous enregistrer à l'Entry Group sous les huit jours de votre arrivée à Auroville afin de recevoir les informations nécessaires qui vous permettrons de commencer la procédure d'entrée.
Vous serez accueilli par l'Entry Group et présenté à votre contact personnel qui vous guidera tout au long de votre période de " Newcomer ". L'Entry Goup annoncera votre statut de " Newcomer " à l'ensemble de la Communauté après avoir consulté votre contact personnel et la communauté où vous vivez.Vous serez requis de signer la déclaration à la fin de ce document.
Votre période de " Newcomer " commencera alors et durera deux ans. Dès le commencement, vous serez un participant à part entière à la vie d'Auroville ainsi qu'il est décrit dans ce document.
Vous entreprendrez une activité utile pour la communauté et en même temps propice à votre development integral personel. Commencer une nouvelle entreprise(un service, une entreprise commerciale ou un projet indépendent) durant cette periode ne sera autorisé qu'avec la permission de l'Entry Group.Vous serez encouragé à joindre des activités collectives variées, des rencontres ouvertes de la Communauté aussi bien que la nouvelle experience économique en cours.
L'on attend de vous que vous restiez à Auroville durant toute la première année. Au cas ou vous devriez quitter Auroville temporairement ou définitivement, informez-en l'Entry Group. Les " Newcomers " d'origine étrangère sont requis de consulter le"Visa Service" en ce qui concerne la procédure de départ et de retour.
A la fin de votre période de " Newcomer", vous serez invité de nouveau à rencontrer l'Entry Group qui pourra recommender votre adhésion à l'Assemblée des résidents (The Residents' Assembly).S'il n'y a pas d'objections soutenues de la part des résidents d'Auroville, vous deviendrez un Aurovilien.Votre nom sera entré dans la " liste des résidents "(the Master List) et vous serez un résident à part entière d'Auroville et un membre de la "Residents' Assembly".
C'est le devoir de la "Residents' Assembly"de voir à ce que les principes de conduite donnés par Mère soient respectés par ses residents. Si ces principes devaient être sérieusement et de façon répétée, violés par un individu, son statut de résident peut être remis en question par " l'Assemblée des residents " à tout moment.

If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
