* Pour m'éviter les foudres des autres membres, je sais que je suis le énième message sur le vaste sujet qu 'est "étudier à Montréal/au Québec", mais ne trouvant pas exactement ma situation et ne voulant pas réactualiser des sujets vieux de deux ans aux infos périmées, j'ai préféré relancer une nouvelle discussion, histoire d'être plus claire dans ma démarche*
Actuellement étudiante en L3 d'Etudes urbaines à l'Institut Français d'Urbanisme (Paris), je réfléchis depuis quelque temps à ce projet: partir faire ma maîtrise d'urbanisme à l'UdeM, plus précisément dans l'institut d'urbanisme de l'UdeM. J'ai déjà rassemblé beaucoup d'informations sur le programme, les documents à rassembler pour la demande d'admission et ceux à faire si je suis admise, etc... Mais il me reste quelques doutes, ou plutôt quelques craintes.
J'ai fait deux années de prépa littéraires avant de rentrer en troisième année de licence (j'ai d'ailleurs été sous-admissible à l'ENS Lyon), mais le souci, c'est qu'au Québec ils ne connaissent pas le système des prépas (réponse de la prof responsable de l'institut d'urba à mon mail sur le même sujet)!! Et du coup je risquerais d'être pénalisée si mon dossier et mes notes étaient comparés à ceux d'un étudiant français de la fac (loin de moi l'idée de dénigrer les gens de la fac, mais en prépa, surtout dans les parisiennes, un 7/8 c'est l'équivalent d'un 11/12 à la fac! Chose que les profs au Quebec ne savent pas), et si surtout la sélection des dossiers se faisait essentiellement sur les bulletins! Donc ma question est, pour les gens qui connaitraient un peu les sélections dans les facs québécoises: sur quoi les comités d'admission se basent-ils pour prendre ou non un élève (notes?commentaires des profs?classement de l'élève par rapport à sa classe? progrès dans l'année?) ? Ai-je une chance d'être prise si je bétonne mon dossier avec beaucoup de lettres de recommandation, un très bon premier semestre en L3 et beaucoup de motivation (même si j'ai été considérée comme une bonne élève en prépa, mais si jamais ce n'est pas perçu de cette manière...)? :)
Enfin, à tout hasard, si un(e) étudiant(e) français(e) qui étudie maintenant à Montréal passe par là, je serais ravie de pouvoir échanger avec lui/elle sur son expérience, son parcours, sa procédure d'admission, la vie là-bas...

Je ne comprends pas trop ton affaire de prépa et de fac, mais ce que je peux dire c'est que le processus d'acceptation à la maîtrise prend évidemment en compte tes notes.
En fait, il faut avoir ce qu'on appelle un Baccalauréat (Bac) ici au Québec, donc un équivalent français. Ensuite, ils vont vérifier ta moyenne, ici c'est sur 4,3, habituellement il demande 2,7, mais ça peut être moins en fonction des circonstances. Exemple, ils peuvent vous demander de faire des cours de bac en même temps que la maîtrise afin de te mettre à niveau.
Des lettres de recommandation ne nuiraient certainement pas à ton dossier, mais disons que 2 ou 3 c'est suffisant. Ici, si ma mémoire est bonne, il faut des recommandations de 2 ou 3 professeurs pour compléter le dossier.
Finalement, si ta scolarité correspond à un baccalauréat québécois, je dois dire que ce n'est pas très très difficile de rentrer à la maîtrise en urb. C'est peu contingenté et ils acceptent des gens de tous les domaines. J'avais même dans mes classes des gens qui provenaient d'études allemandes et de psychologie au baccalauréat ??? J'avoue que je ne la comprends pas encore celle là.

Moi non plus je ne comprends pas trop leur système, je crois que la "prépa" c'est pour être admis dans ce qu'ils appellent les grandes écoles plus facilement, à quoi ça sert, aucune idée, le système éducatif français est vraiment très étrange par rapport à ici et juste à ce que j'ai entendu parler ne me plairait pas trop.
En effet, pour entrer une maîtrise, une moyenne de 2,7 est requise pour les programmes non contigentés, et on peut être acceptés sous conditions de mise à niveau, etc. donc pour répondre à Ric, monte ton dossier comme il se doit et tu verras bien pour le reste...en urbanisme ce n'est pas comme le droit ou médecine.

Merci pour vos réponses! =) Alors pour expliquer le système de la prépa: comme le dit Nikky, les classes prépa sont avant tout là pour t'aider à "préparer" les Grandes Ecoles (pour les scientifiques, il s'agira des écoles d'ingénieur, avec en tête l'Ecole Polytechnique ou Centrale Paris), mais surtout sont le seul moyen d'entrer dans ces écoles (en gros il faut être élève en prépa pour se présenter au concours de l'Ecole Normale Supérieure). Ce sont donc les bons et très bons élèves de lycée, qui vont, après leur BAC (l'équivalent de votre DEC), dans les écoles prépa. J'ai donc été en classe prépa littéraire, ce qui signifie qu'on était censé préparer le concours d'entrée pour les Ecoles Normales Supérieures (dit aussi ENS, il y en a deux: une dite "classique" car il y a une épreuve de langue ancienne, à Paris, et une dite "moderne" car sans langue ancienne, à Lyon). J'ai donc préparé l'ENS de Lyon. Mais bon, on a beau tous se préparer à ce concours, autant vous dire que seule une minorité a vraiment pour but d'y entrer: en effet, pour plus de 2000 étudiants en prépa littéraire, il y a seulement... moins de 50 places à l'ENS. Autant dire qu'il y a 90% d'échec. Donc pour beaucoup, comme pour moi, la prépa c'était avant tout l'occasion d'acquérir des méthodes de travail, une bonne culture générale, un vrai rythme de travail, car la prépa, c'est un autre monde que la fac française à ce niveau là. Un bon moyen aussi, donc, de se préparer à d'autres concours ou d'autres écoles (écoles de commerce, écoles d'interprétariat, institut d'urbanisme pour mon cas 🙂), ou encore à un bon retour à l'université.
Donc en prépa on a encore des études très interdisciplinaires, avec des cours d'Histoire, de Lettres, de langues, de Géographie, de philosophie... Tout un programme, sans compter que les professeurs nous notent donc comme si nous étions le jour du concours, du coup assez sévèrement... Et la douche peut-être assez froide quand tu es à la base un bon élève au lycée: par exemple, alors que j'avais 16 en philo au lycée, ma première note de philo en prépa a été... 4. Sur 20.
Donc quand je parle de notes basses, je ne plaisante pas, et ça peut donc être mal interprété au Québec; alors qu'en France, un prof de prépa trouvera la note de 9/20 honorable, je suppose qu'un prof de l'UdeM ne trouvera pas ça très brillant...
C'est pour ça que je voulais savoir si d'après vous les commentaires des profs ou encore la marge de progression dans l'année pourrait être aussi déterminant (par exemple, j'ai vraiment décollé entre mon premier et mon deuxième semestre en deuxième année de prépa) pour l'admission?
Ensuite je suppose que le comité d'admission fera plus attention à mes résultats en géographie qu'à ceux obtenus en philosophie...
Mais merci de m'avoir un peu rassuré concernant l'admission non contingentée! Et j'espère qu'avec deux/ trois lettres de recommandations et la force du Jedi, je serais admise, car j'ai vraiment envie de vivre cette expérience! :)

Aussi, 20 ans c'est jeune pour rentrer à la maîtrise, habituellement on a plus autour de 22-23 ans minimum lorsqu'on effectue le parcours régulier. Cela me fait dire que possiblement vos cours ne correspondent pas vraiment à un Baccalauréat québécois et donc l'admission pourrait être difficile...
Je suis dans le même cas que toi, à part qu'après ma prépa je suis passée en L3 de géographie. As-tu réussi à intégrer la maîtrise finalement ?
