Hi there, I’d like to hike The Narrows in mid-June. Has anyone done this hike and can share their feedback? I’ll be hiking up to the narrowing, and I saw there’s an outfitter that rents the right gear—I plan to get equipped. Though it depends on a lot of factors, what’s the average water level like at that time of year? Thanks

Yeah, I loved it. I went there in November 2017. We rented wetsuits to stay dry because in November the water was pretty cold. I don’t know what the temps are like in June—supposedly around 27°C outside, so maybe you won’t need wetsuits?!... But the walking sticks are super useful for keeping your balance against the current.

It might be crowded, though. So if you want gear, try to check ahead to see if you need to book. There are outfitters (I just learned that word recently 😏 after struggling with one of your fellow countrymen 😎).

From what I remember, there are several shops that rent equipment...

Yeah, I’ve got the poles, and I have the address of a shop where you can also take a shower when you return your gear. Thanks

I’m not sure what the temperatures are like in June—supposedly around 77°F outside. Maybe wetsuits aren’t necessary?!?!... But trekking poles are super helpful for keeping your balance against the current.

Back from the store: water temps in June are around 27°C (80.6°F) and it’s been a particularly dry year.

It’s not a bad idea to visit... When the water level is too high, it becomes impassable. You’ll be able to go far and enjoy the towering canyon cliffs.

Hi there! We did the Narrows at the end of June, late afternoon. Since our kids were "little" back then, we walked in the water for about 1 hour before turning back. We were in shorts and swimsuits, with sneakers on our feet. No walking stick or other equipment. In some spots, the water came up to our thighs, and even above the waist for my 8-year-old son. The current wasn’t super strong, but still, it was better not to fall—it would’ve been a bit tricky to get back up without help. The water was cool but not cold, and otherwise, it was warm but not too hot in Zion.

(By the way, it was USAfan who gave me advice for our first road trip back then )

Thanks for your feedback. I think we’ll decide when we get there, but we’re really excited! Louis

I gave you bad advice earlier—if I didn’t tell you to bring trekking poles! 😏 Yeah, I don’t think the wetsuit combo is really necessary, but trekking poles are still super useful.

Thanks! Trekking poles really helpful, water up to chest level at times but an amazing experience. Though I wasn’t expecting such huge crowds—crazy, crazy, crazy—or those 100°F temps!
