Je dois suivre mon mari à Port Gentil au Gabon mais nous avons un chien, un bulldogue anglais et je voudrais avoir des témoignages de personnes ayant fait venir leur chien de France.

En fait coté papier, vaccins j ai déjà à peut près toute les infos.
J'en ai parlé avec ma véto, j ai appelé Air France donc dans l'absolu je sais que c est possible mais maintenant c est la "réalité" qui m angoisse !
- Comment le chien vit le voyage en avion, son arrivée en Afrique, la chaleur, .....
- Il parait que les africains n aiment pas les chiens donc comment se passe la vie de tous les jours à Port Gentil ou Libreville avec un chien !

Ah oui, c'est vrai le pauvre chien va avoir un petit choc de température et d'agitation autour de lui!
Il faut bien sur l'hydrater, le rassurer, etc....En même temps il va avoir tellement d'odeurs nouvelles à renifler!!
En principe, je les endormais pour qu'ils ne souffrent pas trop et il étaient encore dans les vaps à l'arrivée. Je calculais la dose en fonction de la longueur du voyage. Ma seule crainte c'était le transit à Paris, que les cages ne suivent pas mais c'est jamais arrivé.
Après, j'ai envie de dire que si, les africains aiment beaucoup les chiens, selon la cuisson.... ! Dans tous les pays, on te dira : "ici, on mange pas les chiens" mais c'est pas vrai ! J'ai dégusté un peu partout d'excellentes brochettes de chiens à la sauce..... C'est surtout les chiens noirs qui sont craints. Mais bon, ça veut pas dire que ton chien est en danger. Si tu as un jardin, le chien va être heureux comme tout, à courir après les margouillats.

J'ai eu toutes sortes de chien, du bâtard au berger allemand. Mes deux derniers compagnons étaient un adorable caniche et une demoiselle épagneul français.
Peur au gardien.....j'en ris d'avance ! J'ai une amie qui avait un Yorkshire dont le grand plaisir était de piquer les godasses du gardien et de les déposer juste hors de portée dans la maison (il passait à travers les grilles).
Maintenant, c'est sur que vu la tête sympathique du bouledogue le gardien va être surpris mais en général les gardiens aiment bien qu'il y ait un chien dans les maisons. ça les réveille lorsque que quelqu'un arrive....
Pour la boyesse...ben si c'était en France, tu te poserais pas la question !
Par contre, interdit leur FORMELLEMENT de donner à manger au chien, j'ai un mauvais souvenir d'arêtes de poisson indigestes !

Pour ma part ca me pose un problème de conscience de partir en tant qu'expatriée, quand j'ai fait mes études sur Paris j'ai beaucoup fréquenté la communauté africaine (Congo, Zaire, Nigéria et Libéria) et on discutait beaucoup des différences de train de vie ..... alors c est vrai que ca me pose un problème de partir dans un pays où la population ne vit pas correctement ....

Tu as déjà pas mal d'infos...Informes toi auprès du véto au sujet de la filariose qui dans ces régions est très courante, il extiste des traitements curatifs et surtout préventifs (peut être en pipette même, suis plus sûre). Le boxer de nos amis à l'époque au Gabon en est mort, la parasitose était déjà trop étendue quand elle a été détectée. Les gens en général se méfient des chiens, de nos chiens surtout, et comme un bulldog a de la gueule et qu'on n'en voit pas des masses là bas, il risque de surprendre plus d'un et d'une. A l'époque où nous étions au Gabon nous n'avions pas de chien mais un chat, mais nous gardions souvent le boxer (un autre) d'un collègue en brousse. Oui il faisait peur alors que c'était une bonne patte très joueuse!
Dernièrement quand j'étais partie vivre au Congo voisin, on a emmené notre chien, 2e séjour en Afrique . Un peu de mal au début avec les gardiens et pendant longtemps avec l'un des deux, mais c'est surtout parce qu'il avait très peur du chien et que quand il le voyait il se figeait net et fixait le chien dans les yeux, ce que ce dernier ne devait pas prendre comme quelque chose de bon en fait dans son esprit canidé!! Sinon avec l'autre gardien aucun soucis, ça le faisait marrer même quand le chien sortait par inadvertance en dehors de la parcelle et qu'il effrayait les gars avec qui il tapait la discute, et il cranait de leur montrer que le chien lui obéissait!
J'ai entendu , et pas qu'au Gabon, parler de boulettes empoisonnées jetées par dessus le mur(vengeance, jalousie, cambriolage...). Aussi quand il n'y a personne à la maison, qu'il y a un blême par prudence garde ton chien à l'intérieur et sinon donne des consignes qu'il ne sorte pas longtemps sinon. Tu as la solution de le faire protéger, tu l'emmènes chez le nganga qui lui fera une amulette à porter en collier, et je ne blague pas non plus là ! A part le chat qui est un plat d'honneur occasionnel dans le Nord du pays, les brochettes de chiens pour ma part jamais eu vent de ça au Gabon ni en ville ni en brousse, mais je ne dis pas que ça ne peut pas se produire à l'occase . On les voit plutôt en crêpe sur la route, ou sur le côté renversé et en tous cas avarié , sur Libreville du moins. Et puis , oui, gaffe aux serpents, on a une chienne Batéké en brousse qui y a laissé la vie et ses chiots y a pas longtemps, et en ville dans certains quartiers et jardins verdoyants ça peut arriver parfois d'en trouver un. Il y a un autre rapport de l'homme au chien, en général les gens tiennent à leur chien, c'est celui qui garde la parcelle, qui accompagne au champs, qui tient compagnie devant la maison etc, et qui mange ce qui reste ou sinon qui se débrouille et qui dort dehors. Nos chiens à nous c'est pas pareil, ils sont différents, c'est peut être ce que l'on te dira mais sans moquerie, ni reproche. Attention, si vous allez de Province à CDG en avion, certaines lignes de cie aérienne ne prennent peut être pas (ou plus) d'animaux. J'ai une amie qui vit à Port Gentil, elle à l'air de s'y plaire, mais son jardin est un marigot à chaque saison des pluies, donc si vous cherchez une maison, regardez comment est le terrain et autour (canalisations, caniveaux...).

Merci beaucoup pour ton message et toutes tes infos qui me sont très utiles !
Mon mari part lundi et je lui ai demandé d'être vigileant pour le choix de la maison et du jardin, des gardiens (je préfère qu'ils soient prévenus pour le chien parce que si l un deux en a peur ce serait quand même dommage) et je lui ais aussi demandé de trouver un nganga ! c est toujours bon à savoir !
C'est notre premier contrat en temps qu'expatrié, nous sommes très excités mais en même temps un peu soucieux.
J'ai entendu dire qu'à cause du comportement de certains expats les relations avec les gabonais pouvaient être "difficiles".
Est ce que tu aurais des conseils pour la valise de mon mari ?? Il part 3 mois. J'ai vu que tu étais très active sur le forum je suis preneuse de toutes les infos utiles que tu aurais !! Bonjour, En fait j'ai fait le choix de ne pas partir ..... Pour deux raisons : la scolarité pour nos deux enfants adolescents posait un problème à Port Gentil et les conditions de vie pour notre bulldog anglais n'étaient vraiment pas au top (chaleur, moustiques, humidité, et soins vétérinaires chers et pas au top), en plus Air France refuse les "faces plates" sur ses vols maintenant. Mon mari y travaille et revient régulièrement car il était inconcevable pour nous de se séparer de notre chien ! L'avantage je pense pour vous c'est que votre yorkshire pourra voyager avec vous en avion car il fait moins de 6 kg et s'il est en bonne santé il y a quand même des vétos sur à LBV. Si ce n'est pas indiscret vous travaillez dans quel domaine ?? Bonne journée !

I’m heading to Bangkok for a 5-month internship, and I’m wondering about the budget because I’ve read all sorts of things—so I decided to post here to get answers tailored to my situation! :D I found housing that costs me 7,000 baht (I know it’s a bit pricey, but it’s super convenient...), which works out to about 160 € all-inclusive. So, I was wondering if it’s realistic to live on 500 or 600 € per month, and if so, under what conditions? Is that enough, considering I’ll be working 40 hours a week?

WEP offers loads of different projects, including one I really like: helping and volunteering on a farm, particularly in South America (Peru or Argentina).
I’d love to know if anyone has tried this project or knows someone who has... or has done something similar? I’d like to get some feedback before diving into the adventure.

Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
Are there any special requirements before leaving France (aside from taxes...)?

Hi, I’m a self-employed physiotherapist in France, and as my wife (a nurse) and I look into working abroad in about two years, I’ve been offered an equivalence to become a respiratory physiotherapist in Switzerland. Actually, I’m currently doing a postgraduate diploma in pediatric respiratory physiotherapy and want to specialize in that area. Anyway, that’s not the main point—could anyone explain the pros and cons of doing this job in Switzerland? Based on the paperwork I’ve received, the equivalence seems purely administrative or almost... What about working conditions, quality of life, salaries, etc.?

I’m currently a childminder in a MAM (multi-accueil) and I’ve also worked for about 6 years in several daycare centers as a childcare assistant. In the summer of 2026, my husband is being transferred to New Caledonia. We’ll be living near Nouméa. Do you know if the early childhood sector is a good field for jobs there? Can’t wait to discover this island! Right now, we’re in the middle of all the administrative paperwork for our 3 kids, finding housing, bringing our cat to the territory, and so on! We’re a couple with a child living in the Paris region, and I’ll be relocating to Aix-en-Provence in spring 2026. We’d love to swap our apartment for a house with a pool within 20-30 minutes max of central Aix, with a budget of around 650k €.
In terms of climate and geography, I’ve read that Aix is in a basin where it can get really hot. What about the surrounding villages that are a bit more elevated, like Venelles? Is it just as stifling?
For a family, which area would you recommend?

Starting this spring, we want to settle near Aix-en-Provence. We're tired of living in the mountains with all the snow—we really need some sunshine and a fresh start. Is it hard to find a house to rent there? What about prices? If you have any great tips or useful info about the area, we’d love to hear it. I work in education and want to do prevention work in Marseille or Aix—are there jobs in the social sector?

So I’m reaching out to people who live there or know the country well: I’d like to know what the best ways are to advertise and get known in Thailand. Are there any local classifieds newspapers? First, I’d like to practice from my apartment. Is that allowed in Thailand? Ideally, I’d like to work part-time in a private hospital as an osteopath. I’m thinking that in Thailand, the medical field is much more open than in Europe!!! Has anyone seen an osteopath or chiropractor working in a Thai hospital? Do you know the price of a consultation?
