Je commence juste les recherches pour notre voyage annuel de cet été. Après avoir fait l'Amérique du Sud l'été dernier, nous avons choisi l'Asie cette année.
Nous sommes toujours à la recherche de dépaysement et de découvertes mais pour cette fois, nous avions vraiment envie de profiter de nos derniers jours de voyage pour se reposer (avant la reprise du boulot).
C'est pourquoi, et c'est là que j'aurais besoin de vos avis nous avons opté pour le Cambodge et la Thailande.
Pensez-vous qu'il soit intéressant d'arriver à Phnom Penh et de repartir de Phuket :
soit Nice - Phnom Penh / Phuket - Nice (j'ai trouvé des billets à 1 000 € pour environ 4 semaines)
ou est-ce plus simple de prendre l'aller retour Nice-Bangkok et de bouger en train, en bus... à partir de Bangkok ?

Il n'existe pas, s.e., de vols intercontinentaux à destination du Cambodge😕.
Vous transiterez forcément par un hub d'Asie du Sud-Est, peut-être Bangkok ?
C'est sur la base de vos différentes escales que vous devez faire une comparaison de prix.
Exemple :
Bangkok - Phnom Penh (vol international) peut être très "bon marché" avec la compagnie low-cost Air Asia.
Par contre, les prix bas engendrent quelques contraintes comme le nombre de bagages, le poids de ceux-ci et une ponctualité très approximative...
En gros tu me conseilles de prendre un vol Nice - Bangkok et de voir avec d'autres compagnies pour le Bangkok / Phnom Penh et Phuket / Bangkok.
Je vais calculer tout ça alors, mais en tout cas pour quelques € de plus, je préfère ne pas m'embêter et prendre un billet tout compris.

Au niveau du trajet, sachant que nous voudrions voir les temples d'Angkor, voir le Nord de la Thaïlande et descendre environ une semaine dans le sud pour se reposer sur les plages, penses-tu qu'il soit judicieux de garder cet itinéraire : Phnom Penh - Phuket ?
C'est ce que je pensais aussi, sachant que j'ai vu des vols Nice-Bangkok aller/retour dans les 700 €.
L'avantage c'est qu'on ne s'embête pas à tout calculer, tout est compris.
Maintenant il faudra voir si c'est intéressant par rapport à notre trajet.
Nous souhaitions arriver au Cambodge, principalement pour voir les temples d'Angkor et ça nous permettait de voir un peu du pays.
Sur 4 semaines, aurons-nous le temps de tout faire : Phnom Penh - Angkor - Nord de la Thaïlande (pour voir les temples) - Sud de la Thaïlande (pour profiter des plages) ?
Phnom Pehn / Chiang Mai / Phuket, ça fait quand même pas mal de km, c'est un peu comme si vous faisiez Rome / Londres / Gibraltar...
Pour réduire un peu, je ferais Siem Reap / Sukothai (puisque vous allez dans le nord pour les temples) / Phuket par exemple mais en prenant soin de voir Sukothai avant d'aller voir Angkor.
Les ruines de Sukothai sont magnifiques mais rsiquent de paraître un peu fades après Angkor.
Donc mon conseil serait
Bangkok - Sukothai - Siem Reap - Ile ou plage.
Le trajet Bangkok Sukothai peut se faire en bus ou en avion
Sukothai - Siem Reap par la route (bus) prendrait presque deux jours mais peut se faire par avion
Et Siem Reap - plage par la route en passant par le lac - Battambang - Pailin - Trat
Enfin, il existe de multiples possibilités, mais faire des milliers de km, c'est avant tout très fatiguant !

bon j'ai regarde sur une carte, au niveau de tes etapes, ca correspond a ce que nous voudrions voir. Par contre, tous ces trajets en avion... ca n'explose pas ton budget ???

Je pensais faire seulement le trajet Chiang Mai - Phuket en avion (je l'ai vu a 30 euros sur air asia, est ce une erreur ???).
L'avantage d'atterrir de Phnom penh et de repartir de Phuket c'est de justement ne pas avoir a revenir a Bangkok.

Exploser le budget avec Air Asia .... non pas vraiment, même le trajet Siem Reap - Bangkok en ligne régulière a baissé maintenant, et moi j'ai tout fait en régulier, bon c'est sûr que c'est un choix .....
Tu peux monter avec le train de nuit sur Chiang Mai ..... ça représente déjà une économie .....
Quoique tu fasses, tu seras obligé de repasser par Bangkok .....

J'ai acheté les billets sur ebookers ...Il y a 10 jours ( Tarifs intéréssants , il me semble ) .J'ai une amie, qui a fait Bangkok ( pour le Sud et rejoindre Ko Samui ) 12 h de Train ( très long, pas confortable ) et bateau ....

C'est vrai que les vols intérieurs sont relativement abordables.. Nous avons pris l'avion pour aller de Bangkok à Kho Samui mais nous avons choisi un trai de nuit (couchettes) pour le retour. C'est vraiment une expérience très syma..

Non, c'est Bangkok Airways qui assure le vol Siem Reap - Bangkok, et actuellement tu peux avoir des billets aller simple pour 110 euros par personne .....
Pour les vols avec air-asia, je me permets d'ajouter un bémol à ce que certain-e-s ont écrit. Les billets sont moi chers si on les réserve bien à l'avance. Par exemple en décembre : Bkk>Phnom Penh était quasi au même prix qu'avec Bangkok airways 🤪 en réservant la veille...
Sinon il me semble qu'air asia a justement ouvert une nouvelle liaison dernièrement entre Phnom Penh et Phuket...
A prendre en compte si vos sortez en avion du Cambodge une taxe d'aéroport de 25$ par personne 😠 alors que par la route nada 😄
Pour rejoindre Bkk à SR, faut compter 7-8 heures en taxi pour un cout total de +- 75$ (50 côté thai et 25 côté cambodgien) Plus ou moins idem pour Bkk-Battambang ou Battambang-Bkk
Pour SR-Battambang, la route est à présent impec, en bus vous faites le trajet en 3h 3h30 pour 4-5$...
En bateau, le trajet est magnifique entre Battambang et Siem Reap mais ça prend un certains temps (8h) en juillet-aoôut c'est plus rapide dans le sens Battmabang>Siem Reap (à cause du courant) prix aux alentours de 15-20$
Si je peux me permettre, en 4 semaines, vous pouvez limiter votre périple Khmer à Siem Reap et Battambang... Phnom Penh c'est pas euh... bref... up to u !
Un truc sympa (que je fais d'ailleurs quand je vais par là) c'est de repartir de Bangkok un dimanche ou un lundi, ce qui permet de profiter du week-end market pour faire les derniers achats-shopping 😉
Phuket en été, c'est pas le top, la mer est très agitée et sur certaines plages c'est baignades interdites 🏴☠️ C'est d'ailleurs pour ça que les hôtels sont peu cher en cette saison 😕 Tandis qu'en juillet-août : Koh Samui c'est bien ! Y'a Koh Chang aussi qui est parait-il sympa... Sinon si vous êtes en trip amoureux : l'une ou l'autre plage de Koh Phi Phi !

Il va falloir qu'on se décide assez vite alors pour pouvoir réserver en avance.
On va surement atterrir à Phnom Penh et remonter tranquillement jusqu'à Angkor, on verra du pays comme ça. Mais on ne restera pas à Phnom penh. Siem Reap et Battambang sont vraiment les seuls coins à privilégier au Cambodge ?
Puis on ira jusqu'à Bangkok.
Du coup on passera la frontière Cambodge / Thaïlande par la route et non pas par les airs.

Donc par rapport à notre date de voyage phuket est à éviter. Nous pensions seulement y aller pour prendre l'avion mais pas y rester. Il y a un autre aéroport dans le sud ? Phuket est loin de Koh Samui ? ou Koh Chang ?

Ne pas rester à Phnom Penh parce que une personne te dit que ce n'est pas terrible, je trouve cela dommage ..... moi à l'inverse je peux te dire que c'est ma capitale d'Asie du Sud Est préférée ( alors qui croire ...... !), et que c'est là que j'ai eu le plus de sensations au cours de tous mes voyages, et c'est la ville où j'ai le plus envie de retourner ...... et je ne pense pas être le seul dans ce cas, alors l'éviter sans se donner la peine de se faire sa propre opinion ..... 😕 dommage, vraiment dommage ...... !!

Elles sont à voir mais c'est souvent "on aime ou on n'aime pas".
Quand je dis que nous ne resteront pas à Phnom Penh, nous y atterrissons donc nous ferons certainement au moins une nuit sur place, le temps d'avoir un aperçu de la ville. Nous n'avons pas beaucoup de temps et il va falloir faire une sélection.
Après nous changerons peut être d'avis une fois sur place ...

Je sais que ce n'est pas forcément la meilleure période pour partir dans cette région mais le problème c'est que nous avons nos congés que l'été. Nous n'avons pas vraiment le choix.
Il pleut vraiment tous les jours en juillet / Août ? Pas du tout de ciel bleu ?
Je ne suis jamais allée au Cambodge en été mais en hiver.
Quant à la Thaîlande en août, je me souviens d'un temps gris et maussade du côté de Bangkok et de Huan Hin.
En Birmanie, c'était le déluge dans le Sud, à ne pas mettre un matou dehors😕 et cela toute la journée.
Certains auront eu beau temps.
Bref, c'est aléatoire mais avec plus de probabilités d'un temps bof que de soleil.
C'est pourquoi je proposais l'Indonésie qui possède comme la Thailande et le Cambodge, vieilles pierres, paysages, dépaysement et plages pour un budget du même ordre d'idée. (et moins de touristes sauf à Bali...)
Et puis, si vous voulez sortir des sentiers battus, il est préférable de choisir la saison sèche à cause de l'état de certaines routes par temps de pluie.
Contrairement à ce que dit Alan je n’ai pas dit que Phnom Penh c’est pas terrible… J’ai dit « c’est pas euh… up to u ». étant donné que vous atterrissez là-bas, je me doute bien, comme tu lui as répondu que vous allez y faire un petit tour. Et vous aurez bien raison 😉
Il y a peut-être d’autres coins à privilégier au Cambodge. Mais je ne parle que de ceux que je connais… 😇
Des régions comme le Mondolkiri et le Ratanakiri me semblent « loins », difficilement accessibles qui plus est en période de mousson. Sihanoukville, Kep, etc, je ne connais pas non plus. Faut demander à des spécialistes du forum comme Roger et Ugolin qui connaissent bien mieux le Cambodge que moi. Mais je sais que l’été dernier ils ont eu beaucoup de flotte à Sihanouk… Et puis vous n’avez « que » 4 semaines… Vous ne pourrez pas « tout » faire 🤪
Sinon, question météo : pas de craintes : les averses de moussons ont également leur charme et font partie du voyage ! Il pleut rarement toute la journée… mais plus généralement une heure le soir (rarement tous les jours !)… Donc voilà c’est vraiment pas quelque chose qui doit, à mon humble avis, vous faire changer de projet (À part pour Phuket… je vais y revenir) En plus les prix sont moins élevés qu’en décembre-janvier 😛
Donc, puisque tu me demandes mon avis, voilà ce que je pense…
Vous arrivez à PP, vous remontez à SR par la route (5-6$ par personne en bus, 45-50$ pour un taxi) à Siem Reap. De Siem Reap, vous regagnez Bangkok par la route. Soit en faisant une petite boucle par Battambang (une journée en bateau ou 2-3 h par la route… le bateau vaut la peine!😏), soit direct vers Bangkok (tout dépend ce que vous voulez faire en Thai). Mais je trouve que la petite halte à Battambang est vraiment agréable et dépaysante. Phnom Penh – Siem Reap – Battambang : vous verrez trois aspects très différents du Cambodge.
Pour la Thaïlande, vu le temps dont vous disposerez, vous devrez aussi faire des choix…😮
Pour les îles, encore une fois, je vais parler de ce que je connais en juillet-août :
Phuket ; Kata beach : peu de monde, baignade interdite🏴☠️ (mer super agitée), pas trop de pluie mais quelques orages
Phi Phi Don (au départ de Phuket) : petite plage isolée bien sympa 🙂(on ne peut y accéder qu’en bateau) beau temps, excursions possibles au départ de là pour snorkeling, etc De temps en temps quelques averses
Koh Samui ; Chaeweng beach, bcp de monde : les pieds en éventails sous un ciel bleu et un soleil radieux… Courir jusque l’eau tellement le sable est chaud ^^ extra😎 !
Pour rejoindre Koh Samui en low cost, je pense qu’il faut prendre un vol jusque Surat Thani et ensuite enchaîner avec une petite traversée en ferry jusqu’à Samui (2-3 h de traversée pour 200-300 baths)
Sinon on m’a dit beaucoup de bien de Koh Chang qui elle est accessible par la route et le bateau depuis Bangkok (via l’embarcadère de Trat) en 2-3h…
Bon voilà… j’espère que ça ne vous embrouille pas trop et que ça pourra modestement contribuer au bon déroulement de votre voyage !

Il va falloir que je calcule la durée approximative de chaque étape car je souhaite réserver les vols intérieurs en avance.
Penses-tu qu'une semaine - une semaine et demie soit suffisante pour le Cambodge.
Attention ! Un truc à prendre en compte... c'est qu'il me semble que le visa pour la Thaïlande n'est valable que 15j si vous passez par voie terrestre... 😕 (1 mois si vous arrivez par avion). Pour le visa "terrestre", il y aurait une possibilité de prolongation de 7 jours moyennant une certaine somme et quelques démarches (à voir dans un post récent à ce sujet)
La durée de votre séjour au Cambodge dépend vraiment de comment vous abordez le voyage et de ce que vous comptez faire en Thaïlande également...
Pour les vols internes, je n'ai jamais eu de difficultés en les réservant sur place dans l'une ou l'autre petite échoppe faisant office d'agence de voyage. C'est pas nécessairemnt plus cher mais le truc c'est que si vous payez par carte, ils majorent de 2 ou 5% je pense...
Mais je peux te demander, si ce n'est pas indiscret, pourqui vous tenez absolument à atterrir à Phnom Penh ?
Pour te répondre, nous souhaitons atterrir à Phnom Penh car on a l'habitude de voyager comme ça, pour ne pas avoir à revenir à certains endroits et gagner du temps. On fait une boucle.
C'est pour ça que j'avais ouvert cette discussion d'ailleurs pour savoir s'il était judicieux d'atterrir à Phnom Penh et repartir de Phuket.

De plus en plus de site proposent des vols multi-destinations.
Prendre un billet Nice - Bangkok aller/retour et devoir payer tous les trajets intérieurs en supplément me semble plus contraignant et au final je ne suis pas sur que ça vaille le coup financièrement. Vu qu'un Nice/Bangkok ne sera pas à moins de 700€.
Enfin voila, aucune obligation. C'est juste une habitude de voyage.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m over in East Borneo in mid-July.
I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

I’ll be in Malaysia with my wife, mainly in Langkawi and Penang for Christmas and New Year’s at the end of 2026.
If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?
Hotels or Airbnb?
Do you have any great tips for accommodation or any practical info to share?
We’ll be staying 5 to 7 days on each island.

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!
I think there are, but I’d need more details!!
I went to Thailand in February 2025 and don’t remember having to apply for a visa—is that still the case now? And for Cambodia too?

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
