Hi there, I’m planning to wrap up my 3 weeks in Greece with 4 nights on Serifos before a final night in Athens. I’m torn between staying in Faros or near the port in Livadakia... or somewhere else! I’m looking for an authentic spot with a nice beach nearby but still with little restaurants, shops, etc. Something where my daughters and I can enjoy pleasant evenings with a bit of life around us! Any advice—or even a place to stay—that won’t break the bank, obviously! Thanks

Hi there, the big beaches follow one after another around Livadi: Coralli, Livadakia, Lia, Karavi... If by Faros you mean Mégalo Livadi, it’s still a very isolated spot, in a lunar landscape of hills completely riddled with mines. The old industrial site has just been classified as a historical monument, but the buildings of the former (French) mining company are all in ruins. Even in the middle of summer, nightlife is concentrated along Livadi’s waterfront and in Chora, one of the most beautiful villages in the Cyclades (after Sifnos’ kastro). Livadakia is set back from the road, with no nighttime disturbances, and access to the port is pedestrian-only, via the Agios Giorgos chapel. The KTEL bus serves Chora every hour until 2 AM in the summer, which lets you eat in the little square. If you’re hiking, the trail network starts in Chora, heading toward the mines and the north of the island. Happy trip planning!

Hi there,

If you stay near the port, you’ll find bars, restaurants, and tavernas. For accommodation, you can choose to stay in an apartment or hotel either by the port or set back a bit on the higher ground behind the restaurants. As for the price, what’s your budget per night? Regarding Chora, as mentioned earlier, the buses run pretty late. But depending on your daughters’ ages, staying near the port might be better. The beaches are sandy—there’s a big one by the port and others nearby that are just as nice.
