super agreable l accueil, super souriant ca change de la france, tres sympa la chambre double a 1000 bahts je recommande !!!!
direction mbk le premier jour : de la consommation a tout va !!!!
et a des prix defiant toute concurrence !!! faux tshirts, fausses basquettes, toutes les choses de marques sont fausses !!!
tshirt 150 bahts, jeans de marque x3 1500 baths, chaussures converse 10 euros etc...
jeux videos, musique, numerique y en a pour tout les gouts...
JE RECOMMANDE POUR MA PART LE MEILLEUR CENTRE QUE J AI PU VOIR DANS MA VIE !!!

les - : pire que paris : 48 degres pour ma part le 04/04/08 cause pollution, tuk tuk et taxi qui te sifflent toutes les 5 secondes au mieux, prostitution, pauvrete mais on sent quand meme que les thais mangent a leurs faims c est l essentiel, et surtout vue d horreur ... le commerce sexuel : des vieux avec des jeunes tres jeunes thai ...franchement degoutant.

j y suis actuellement, et les plages sont vides.
il fais tres chaud, pas une seule goutte d eau en 5 jours, personnes souriantes et plaisantes toute la journee, ca change des francais, propres, plages comme sur les cartes postales, pas de marees come j ai pu lire, ou alors je suis bigleux, certes l eau monte legerement mais basse ou haute on voit pas la diff...
commerces moins agreable par contre. la encore commerce sexuel, clothes faux faux et faux, mais bon on evite un peu le centre .
plages de lamai, bophut, nathon, big buddha et koh tao teste, et je vous garanti que chaweng est nettement mieux. un guide francais la meme confirme : la plus belle de samui avec son sable fin .
jet ski, scooter, elephant, spectacles singes et crocos, tir, snorkelling, visites etc... tout y est sympathique pour celui qui aime les activites.
certes pas sauvage du tout, construction de partout, mais les fetards et jeunes trouvent leurs comptes c est ce que je voulais.
qu on se le dise, pas besoin de parler anglais, l argent est un language universel.
les thais sont adorables, aucuns vols, aident avec plaisir, j ai pris RDV pour un tatou avant mon depart le 22/08/08 et tres tres propre la ou j ai pris sur chaweng road, la personne avant meme mon rdv ma montre le matos et aiguilles steriles etc...
3 tatoos, des proverbes thais, pour 54 euros les 3.
j oubliais sur BKK ; des thais viennent parler avec vous et vous embobinent sur le shopping et te donnant une adresse soit disant super interessante : il appel meme pour toi un tuk tuk et hop c est parti !!!
arriver a bon port ... aie aie aie une boutique de costumes avec 5 types pret a vous ruiner.demi tour, tuk tuk pas content, mais c est comme ca, il me reprend chemin inverse, s arrete, je le paie, il repart et va devant un resto ; et hop il veux que je paye un repas . direct je pars en vrille, mais j essai de rester courtoie, il insiste, et la tout part tres vite. je me fais entoure par une bande de thai me mettant la pression, je comprennais rien... du coup un repas de payer pour ce brave monsieur...
je ne recommande que BKK que pour acheter quelques trucs, et demi tour apres car ya vraiment rien de bien ...
sinon les vacances se passent bien, j adore le pays, samui est splendide.
je compte acquerir un bien ici et apprendre la langue pour esperer passer 3-4 mois par an sur samui pour dire !!!
enfin c est mon souhait, on dit qu un coup de foudre arrive une fois dans une vie, et c est vrai.
du coup je continu mes vacances a fond et vous passe le bonjour !!!!

Excuse moi mais si tu a voyagé sur la thai au la star alliance et comme tu a l’intention de y retourner pour 3 ou 4 mois je te conseil de prend la carte de fidélité de la thai en plus ci tu a conserver les talons des cartes d’embarquement tu peux les faire credité et a ton prochain voyage tu bénéficie de10 kg de bagage en plus car tu auras le statue silver et d'autre avantage

comme d'autres . Faire du shopping ok. Mois je trouve ça cool ça fait partie d'un voyage mais dire qu'y a rien d'autres à voir à bangkok la je rejoins les autres, le fait qu'il soit jeune ou que ce soit son premier voyage n'excuse rien, y a plain de choses à voir à bangkok même si la ville dans sa globalité n'est qu'une métropole comme les autres. La culture y est bien plus présentre qu'à new york par exemple

On aura jamais assez de temps pour tout ce qu'on veut découvrir et comprendre dans nos voyages qu'on se le dise , Amis voyageurs .
J'ai "fait le voyage" chaque année pendant 20 ans, et j'ai écouté avec attention les touristes !
Ce qui est décrit ici correspond tout à fait au touriste moyen, qu'on le veuille ou non ...
Les coins "à falangs" sont très propres, on y mange des steak-frites, on n'a pas besoin de parler (sauf lorsqu'on mange dans un restau francophone !).
Le reste du pays est sans intérêt, sale, les gens ne comprennent rien (ils ne parlent même pas le français comme tout le monde).
Et figurez vous qu'on ne laisse pas entrer les femmes en bikini dans les temples (ou au Palais Royal !) ni les hommes en string sans doute ... incroyable, tout de même !

Evidemment, pour les "vieux de la vieille" dont je fais partie, ton experience est amusante et juvenile, mais c'est normal, tu es jeune et tu viens en Thailande pour la premiere fois. Eclate-toi bien, profite de tes vacances et SOIS PRUDENT DANS LES PARTY (genre full moon), un probleme est vite arrive.
Je te souhaite de pouvoir revenir d'autres fois encore et de decouvrir le pays d'une autre maniere. Mais prends ton temps, la jeunesse passe si vite 😕
enfin bref que tu partes tout les ans pendant 20 ans ou 5 fois par an cela ne change rien du tout, le monde est en perpetuel evolution, la thailande aussi d apres mes proches.le climat aussi.
les coins a touristes autrefois etaient des endroits paisibles et depaysants, et le fais d aligner 15 phrases de suite en thai ne signifie pas que tu es un falang ou non.
Une maniere de vivre s installe, une facon de voir les choses differement.
un etranger reste un etranger, personne n echappe a la regle.
je suis jeune certes, 24 ans, essai de voir un maximum de choses dans le monde, je me suis d abord pencher sur l amerique nord et sud, l afrique, l europe pour ensuite commencer par l asie.
d ailleurs je trouve vraiment ca dommage de ne voir que la thailande, il y a tant de beaux pays dans ce monde, et une vie ne suffirait pas a tous les visiter.
un touriste moyen comme tu dis part toujours au meme endroit et n elargis pas sa recherche de destinations.

🙂 ok mais alors ne dit pas qu'y a rien a voir d'interessant à bangkok, dis plutot qu'y à rien d'interessant pour toi... Ca évitera les coms de réactions...
Surtout si tu repars de bangkok, ne vas pas au rambuttri village, de koh san road, l'acceuil, si on peut parler d'acceuil ! il n'y en a pas ! va plutot un peu plus loin, une guest house orchidée villa 950 bath pour 4 avec clim ! l'accueil y est charmand et propre.
Va faire un tour à la rivière kwai, (marches flottants, rose garden, et tigres) tu réserves en bas de l'hotel rambuttri, avec Mr Thai, il est charmant et te propose plein de sortie, ponctuelle et on peut un peu négocier les prix. Si tu prends l'avion le soir, tu peux le faire, ca évite de ruminer le retour... Tu te retrouves à l'aéroport, avec tes souvenirs... !
A chaweng beach, va voir un combat de boxe thai, tu peux aussi visiter le village musulman, c'est à voir. Evite de faire la sortie en speed boat, c'est un peu chèr et beaucoup de touriste, parcontre le parc d'anthon est magnifique. Une ballage interressante, tu vas au sud de l ile de koh samui, en face de koh tan, une petite ile magnifique, une "barquette" nous a enmené à 5 sur des petits ilots puis nous avons fait du snorkelling puis nous avons mangé dans le restau familiale. C 'était fabuleux ! Tu peux y dormir pour 300 baths sans ventilo, et electricité 4h la nuit.
nous à part koh tao, ou on a pris la flotte pendant 4 jours, nous avons tout adoré ! les thais et leurs gentillesse, les "oil massages", meme les bars avec une partie de billard (tout est dans une bonne ambiance, et nous étions avec notre fille agée de 11 ans), les rues de chaweng, les restau le soir sur la plage, bref pret à y retourner....

Ne vas carrement pas à koh san road... Ce serait vraiment la cerise sur le gâteau de ton voyage.
Pour le reste, je suis aussi d'avis que tu es le farang parfait, mais en avocate du diable, je dirais que voyager en asie à ton age est déjà bon signe... en plus, tu aurais pû choisir pattaya plutôt que samui, Kao san ou sukumvit au lieu de siam square, et ca aussi c'est de bonne augure...
pour tout te dire, j'ai connu la thailande en 1986, et je n'étais pas plus fûtée que toi...(voir pire) Je me suis faite pigeonner, arnaquer et j'ai souvent manqué de respect aux locaux... mea culpa... je regrette tellement, et je ne manque pas une occasion de me racheter.
En voyagent au fils des années, j'ai fait beaucoup de rencontres TRES enrichissantes, et j'ai beaucoup écouté "les vieux" (routards expats et locaux) qui m'ont fait découvrir l'envers du décor. petit à petit, réflexions après expériences, des évidences viennent d'elles même à ton ésprit, et là commence la vraie addiction à l'asie et sa culture... Le seul problème, c'est que ne se soigne pas...pas de médics ou de cure de désintox...c'est l'addiction à vie... (mais kes que c'est bon...)
L'avantage, c'est que maintenant, quand j'approche un groupe de rabateurs en tuk tuk, ils doivent percevoir que ce n'est même pas la peine de m'adresser la parole... Ils savent que c'est moi qui vais les boulotter tout crus...

je vois que 20 ans aprés mon premier passage en thailande les méme sentiments ressortent et cela me réconforte j'ai tellement lu sur le forum que la thailande c'était mieux avant que c'était a se demander si y fallait encore y aller mais je vois que le plaisir est intact c'est peut etre le faite d'y aller plusieurs fois qui modifie la vue du pays, j'avoue que ma premiére fois en 1990 c'était comme dennis patpong/pattaya /patpong mékong coke a volonté mais a 25 ans quoi de plus naturel quand on aime la féte et que l'on découvre bangok, a tous ces souvenirs.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
