Je me répète et j'aime pas être désagréable mais il faut vraiment acheter un guide...Bangkok est une ville de treize millions d'habitants, en regardant une carte tu comprendras vite le truc...loger dans un endroit ou tu peux tout visiter en marchant, c'est pas du tout possible dans un monstre urbain pareil.
Les quartiers avec le plus de monuments sont les vieux quartiers: Rattanakosin, Chinatown...ils sont assez courus par les touristes, évidemment, et pas très proches du centre "moderne".
Par ailleurs, avec les inondations, tout est un peu plus compliqué que d'habitude...et les vieux quartiers, qui bordent la Chao Phraya, ne sont pas les plus conseillés.

Je te propose Bang Rak. Le quartier autour de la station de Skytrain "SAPHAN TAKSIN"
Pour l'hotel, je te conseille, soit: Le "Centre Point Silom" soit le "BOSS Hotel"

Après une vingtaine d'haltes sur BKK Pas plus que 2 nuits, j'ai mis du temps pour trouver le quartier qui me plait,
et bien c'est Kao San Road quitte à me faire critiquer. Bel hôtel face au fleuve avec une superbe psicine sur le toit.
Mais je n'y resterais jamais plus longtemps.
Et quant je repas de BKK 2 nuits maxi à Siam Square pour le shopping.
Les quartiers de Thewet ou Banglamphu sont proches des principaux sites touristiques comme le Palais Royal et le Wat Pho sinon y a Sukhumvit qui est pratique car il y a les principaux moyens de transport rapide comme le skytrain, en général j'évite Silom ghetto a touristes de masse en TO. Autres alternatives: le quartier chinois ou Siam Square, Pratunam qui sont proches des grands centres commerciaux. L'offre est grande après tout dépend du prix 😉

En général les gens ne restent que 3-4 jours maximum a Bangkok, ce qui suffit pour avoir un aperçu des sites les plus importants (voir ICI) mais j'y suis resté 10 jours a mon 1er voyage et après de multiples retour je n'ai pas encore vu tout ce qu'il y a a voir, alors une semaine c'est a la fois long pour un 1er voyage et pas assez long pour tout voir 😉 Pour le quartier, donnez une indication de prix pour qu'on puisse vous faire de meilleures propositions d'endroit sinon des hotels comme le Shangri La sont très bien 😎

1) Je conseillerais plutôt juillet que septembre par rapport à la météo
2) Si tu as l'intention de ne partir qu'une semaine, je suppose que tu choisiras un vol direct par Air France ou la Thaï. Cela te coutera de 1000 à 1300 euros. Il te reste donc un budget d'environ 1000 euros pour une semaine sur place, ce qui est très large.
3 ) Si tu comptes privilégier les déplacements à pieds ou en taxi, tu n'as que faire des transports en commun. Dans ce cas, Banglamphu reste une bonne option. Tu iras à pieds vers les principaux sites historiques et tu prendras le taxi pour le reste.
4) Il y a des hôtels qui sont un peu à l'écart par rapport à Khao San, par exemple, le Lamphu Tree Hotel, 2000 à 3000 Bth la chambre selon le standing ( 50 à 75 euros), joli, bon buffet au petit déjeuner, petite piscine, pas guindé et agréable. voir là : http://www.lamphutreehotel.com/

En juillet dernier, pour 4 jours à Bangkok, j'avais séjourné dans le début de Sukhumvit (donc pas KSR): au solo sukhumvit 2 à coté de l'arret de skytrain Ploen Chit. Nous avons été ravi de cet hotel avec piscine et petit déjeuner à 40 euros la nuit pour deux.
Certes, le quartier n'est pas à coté des sites à visiter, mais avec le skytrain et le Chao Phraya Express c'était facile et plutot sympa ! (on nous avait parlé du coté glauque/prostitution du quartier et au final nous n'avons pas été géné ni harcelé par le quartier)
(Par contre, j'aurai été déçue de passer une semain à Bangkok sans voir autre chose et au bout de 4 jours que nous avons adoré, nous avons aimé changer d'air en sortant de cette mégalopole !)
Pourquoi "surtout" ? C'est un peu la basse saison le mois de juillet. Vous n'avez pas lu ça dans votre guide ?

Je ne suis pas une spécialiste de Bkk, loin de là mais je peux vous parler de ce que j'ai fais, vu et de l'endroit ou j'ai loger sur place 2 fois pendant mon séjour en Thailande.
Nous avons pris une chambre au new siam 2 (vous le trouverez sur le net), si vous préférez plus chic, plus cher, il y a le new siam riverside pratiquement en face (côté fleuve).
Les points positifs : près de rues commerçantes ou l'on trouve tout à toute heure (repas, boissons, massages, souvenirs ...), près de Kao san road mais assez éloigné pour ne pas être indisposé par le bruit.
Hôtel calme, petite piscine, clim, ventilateur, safety box dans la chambre, ménage fait à la demande, eau fournie, personnel sympa.
De là vous pouvez, si vous avez envie de vous balladez à pieds, aller jusqu'au grand palais, What Pho, marché aux amulettes etc ... (je l'ai fais pas plus tard que samedi).
Il y a un arrêt bateau pas trés loin ainsi que de nombreux taxis dans la rue principale. Tout est facilement accessible. Par contre pas de possibilité de prendre le métro ou bts ici, il vous faudra d'abord prendre un autre moyen de transport.
Pas besoin de réserver (sauf de mi novembre à fin fevrier), il y aura de la place partout et n'oubliez pas de demander à voir les chambres avant de payer, de négocier les tarifs qu'on vous proposera (c'est la regle là bas) mais toujours avec un sourrire (avec toi cela devrait etre facile)!
Bon , je vais te dire que je préfere sukhumvit comme notre ami Boumbastic car c'est pratique pour la restauration , la fete et c'est bien déservit en transport. Je vais régulierement au swiss park hotel et honnetement c'est correct pour le prix( compte env. 1400 baths) avec une piscine , le petit dejeuner, personnel sympa, seven eleven et change dans la rue et le sky train à 100 m !!!
Pour le marché fais celui de Chatuchak un Samedi ou un Dimanche (station terminus bts mo chit).
Adresses culinaires interessantes :
Quartier siam: "Once upon a time" 17 soi pratunam (en face le pantip plazza), c'est au milieu du soi sur la droite.Tu as un jardin magnifique et l'interieur est tres imprégné d'histoire.Bien sur on y mange tres bien.
Quartier sukhumvit :
"kinaree" soi 8 sur la gauche du soi. Exterieur et interieur tres agreable, personnel à l'ecoute et tres pro, la bouffe super bonne!
"Cabbages and condoms" soi 12, (30m apres un salon de massage hyper top qui s"appelle le lavana), on y mange tres bien, le patio est super sympa avec des brumisateurs, le personnel sympa et efficace.
Quartier silom : "Mango tree" 37 soi tantawan surawong road (derriere le patpong night market), la carte est tres variée, le gout des aliments excellent, le personnel un peu chic mais le cadre est tres plaisant (musique d'ambiance cool).
Pour ce qui est des quartiers chinois et historiques, je ne suis pas assez branchés restaurants pour te renseigner mais tu as des marchands ambulants tres bien avec des plats typiques excellents dans pas mal de rues (j'ai testé) .
Pour le sky bar (1055 silom road Lebua tower) c'est vraiment un endroit à ne pas manquer pour boire un cocktail dans une ambiance lounge et une vue féerique!!! mais tu peux aussi essayer le vertigo bar de la Bannyan tower (quartier silom), un grand moment aussi !!!!
Pour les endroits insolites, pour moi, à Bangkok ils sont présents partout donc dur d'en privilégier un plutot qu'un autre.

The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
