j'ai le projet de partir 6 mois en Afrique en 4x4 avec un ami, 4 mois d'humanitaire et 2 mois de "découverte" en 4x4. On compte faire le tour des pays de l'Afrique de l'ouest de février à juillet 2011. Tout d'abord on descend pendant un moi, (pas encore d'itinéraire précis) pour aller jusqu' au burkina faso ou nous attendra notre mission humanitaire. Au retour vers la France on prendra un itinéraire différent de l'aller pendant un mois.
Itinéraire prévu sans camping ni hotels
1500 € pour la nourriture durant les 6 mois ( on compte donné 8 euros par jour pour la famille qui nous accueillera pendant la période humanitaire de 4 mois ) :la somme vous parait raisonnable ? ( avec une petite dizaine de petit restau pour l'aller et retour)
2 500 € d'essence pour environ 20 000 km
2 500 € en prévision des pièces qui pourrai lâcher sur le 4x4, avec main d'oeuvre.
4 000 € budget 4x4 ( si possible Toyota ) + rajout des pièces necessaires ( roue filte snorkel mais sans le cout de la main d'oeuvre
les prix correspondent à peu près ou je suis complètement à coté de la plaque ?
combien couterai les visas + Burkina 4 mois + carnet de passage 4x4 en passant par : le Maroc, l'Algérie, La Mauritanie, le Mali, la Guinée, la Côte d'Ivoire et le Bénin.
Pour la nourriture, déjà tu es un des rares qui ose parler du budget pour le logement en famille...tu peux lire des carnets de voyages ou même des infos les gens n'en parlent quasi jamais...???
Tu dis que tu vas en mission humanitaire, est ce que l'asso a déjà parler d'un montant pour le logement en famille?? vérifier que l'on paye les familles directement? Leur as tu poser la question au moins, ce sont des choses à éclaircir en avance je crois?
Je pense que 5000 c bon mais à en discuter avant du moins selon le feeling avec ces familles, sinon tu donnes l'argent en "cadeau" avec les politesses d'usages en partant ce qui est bien mieux à mon avis.
On te proposera aussi des services pour le linge notamment, je pense que tu peux au moins laisser une fois ou deux et filer la rallonge à la fin , ça fait un petit plus et plaisir car ce peut être un peu gênant sinon pour certains hôtes 😄
Pour tes budgets que ce soit pour la nourriture et les autres, je pense qu'il faut voir large et ne pas hésiter à prévoir une marge pour les aléas(pas que les mauvais , il y en a de joyeux aussi)
J'ai entendu parler du nouveau visa pour l'afrique de l'Ouest(ex visa de l'entente??), je ne sais quels pays il recouvrirait ni si ça marche déjà et réellement sur place(pas que ds la théorie). Sans doute des gens ici vont t'informer.
Pour la Guinée , mieux vaut éviter en ce moment!!

le budget parait serré, vous ne vous autoriserez guère de sortie, de restau, de cadeaux ou souvenirs avec 8 euro par jour. mais c'est possible.
pour le 4x4, trouver un Toyota prêt à rouler pour 4000 euro, avec aménagements, pièces et autres Snorkel, c'est très ambitieux. les Toy, même d'occasion sont les lus chers à la revente. c'est simple, ils ne décotent pas. et si c'est moins cher, c'est souvent en mauvais état. pour ce prix, viser plutôt un Mitsu Pajero, un Land Discovery ou Range, un Opel Frontera... on en trouve pas mal et si vous êtes prêts à aller le chercher, ils sont moins chers sur les sites allemands que français.
bonne préparation, je vous conseille aussi la grippe A tant qu'à faire des vaccinations.

Le budget total pour ce voyage, pour 2 personnes, durant 6 mois est
d'environ 14 000 €. De toute façon je ne pourrai pas plus, si je vois que c'est trop juste je réduirais le nombre de jour de voyage.
Voilà en gros le budget que je prévois en essayant d'etre assez large :
- achat 4x4 Toyota + réparation + préparation + emporter pièces
de rechanges = 8 500 €
- nourriture ( une dizaine de petits restaurants), + une dizaine de nuits dans des campings = 1 800 € (10€ par jour/ 6 mois )
- carburant pour 18 000 km = 2 200 €
- visas + laisser passer pour le 4x4 et nous même = 450 € ( Maroc, Mauritanie, Mali, Burkina-Faso, Bénin, Togo, Sénégal )
- visites, parc nationaux = 200 €
- vaccins, médoc, anti-moustique etc .. = 250 €
- traversée en bateau avec 4x4 = 200 €
- 150 € pour tous les petit achats que nous ferions avant de partir ...
- les assurances : je n'ai pas connaissance des pris, je dirais 450 € ?
Total 14 200 €
Le budget correspond-t-il au projet ?
Les points qui m'effraient le plus :
- je ne suis absolument pas bricoleur, j'emporterai des pièces en prévisions ( batterie de rechange, filtres etc ... ) mais j'espère qu'il n'y aura pas de gros pépin mécanique et que les mécanos africains pourront réparer les problèmes éventuels. Avez des conseils ?
- les coupeurs de routes .... Les blogs du style, bourlingueurs, papy et mamy en voyage, par exemple, ne disent absolument rien de ce genre de dangers. Pourtant, le site france-diplomatie nous bassine avec ça ! Avez des conseils ?
- le vol du 4x4 ! Avez des conseils ?
- l'état des pistes pour notre retour en France dans la période juin/juillet ... Avez des conseils ?

par contre " le goudron est partout " , c'est la première fois que j'entend ça au sujet de l'Afrique de l'ouest ... ou alors je dois aussi te préciser que je ne veux pas rester uniquement dans les grands axes et grandes villes.
Ce que je voulais dire , c'est que de toute façon, quelque soit la météo il y a le goudron sur les grands axes
si tu veux des infos plus détaillé, je te conseille de donner un itinenaire en gros des pistes que tu comptes faire, comme cela il sera plus facile de t'aider
que compte tu faire pour l'algerie par exemple, la frontiere avec le niger est fermé, passer par le mali est risqué (si tu veux plus d'info j'ai des amis qui l'ont fait en 2008 ). Sache que de toute façon tu devras avoir le visa algérien avant de quitter la france car il n'est pas délivré en afrique de l'ouest
Le trajet est encore loin d'être fixé, nous comptons partir en janvier ou février 2011, ce qui nous laisse du temps ! Mais je peux déjà dire que nous descendrons par le détroit de Gibraltar, puis surement Maroc, Mauritanie, un bout de Mali par le sud ouest, pour arriver jusqu'au Bénin. Pour le trajet du retour nous n'avons encore rien décider. Ce qui est sûr c'est que nous ne pouvons malheureusement pas faire plus de 20 000 km, sinon ça va coincer au niveau du budget.

J'en ai d'ailleurs une qui m'embête un peu : savez-vous si l'on peut obtenir un permis de conduire international si on a passé son permis de conduire il y a un moins d'1 ans ?

Pour le permis international = ce n'est que la copie conforme de ton permis de conduire Français en langues Anglaise et Arabe , gratuit en préfecture (fournir photos), le permis international ne remplace pas le permis national (il te faut les deux)

For my 60th birthday (yes, I’m jumping the gun a bit!), I’m starting to plan a self-drive trip to Tanzania (in June).
I also considered Zimbabwe but I’m worried it might be a bit chilly at night in June.
I’ve revisited an itinerary I’d thought about before, tweaking it since I’ll have more days to dedicate to this trip. Still no big northern classics for the same reasons as before (too expensive, too crowded, too many tour operators).

We still need to reserve the stretch between De Hoop Nature Reserve and Cape Town. Any suggestions?
We’d love to stay around Cape Town for 5 days to explore the wine route, the peninsula, and do some hikes in Table Mountain.

Hi there, we’ll be in Mozambique in early December 2026 and we’d like to travel from Vilanculos to Beira by car or bus to reach Beira airport. After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

For those who’ve driven on Iceland’s gravel roads in their own or a rented Duster, could you tell me what tires were fitted on the vehicle?
Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?
Follow-up question: if they were "standard" tires, did that cause any issues on the gravel roads and rough terrain?

From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

We’re struggling a bit with timing and choosing activities for the part of the trip between Sesriem and Brandberg.
Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

My son and I are heading to Georgia this summer to explore the High Caucasus (Svaneti, Kazbek, and Tusheti regions). For this, we’re planning to rent a 4x4.
However, the rental agencies we’ve found prohibit driving on the tracks to Omalo (Tusheti) and/or Ushguli (Svaneti).
Do you know of any agencies in Tbilisi (local and reliable) that allow rented 4x4s to drive on these tracks? If so, which ones?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)
So, no vans—at least not from the rental companies I’ve seen so far.
While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).
