Notre envie est de faire la boucle du Nord avec un « moyen bugdet », en sac à dos, être proche des gens, voir si on peut habiter chez l’habitant de temps à autre, prendre le + svt le bus, faire un trek ou rando et nous reposer et tout ça en 3 semaines ; un peu court !
L’itinéraire est en gros tracé mais on aime se laisser les surprises on avancera un peu au fur et à mesure des rencontres, des envies du moment.
On va réserver au moins l’hôtel sur BA en arrivant et ensuite ça se fera au jour le jour si c’est jouable ?
Le piège est je pense les distances entre les villes pas facile à maitriser et donc voir entre le bus et voiture de location, voir si on peut vraiment être à l’aise pour dormir avec l’option cama en bus ?
On apporte avec nous « le guide du routard »et « le lonely planet » pour avoir plusieurs choix.

Je vois que tu n'as pas prévu d'aller à Iguazu... est-ce un oubli ?! Tu ne peux pas faire le nord de l'Argentine sans aller voir ces chutes mytiques...
Evitez la voiture de location, pas vraiment évident de conduire sur de longues distances et d'être dispo le lendemain pour visiter. Les bus en option cama sont très confortables et on dort facilement dedans. Par contre évitez les places proche des toilettes (à choisir au moment de la réservation)
Pour le programme , refaites le en marquant le détail de chaque jour , ca sera plus clair pour nous.

Une idée de ce que l'on peut faire en 3 semaines en Argentine.
Alors je me suis dit que niveau budget et timing on devait faire des choix ; on a déjà fais le premier choix déchirant entre le nord et le sud ensuite le second choix déchirant était pour moi soit un vol vers Iguazu ou un vol vers Bariloche qui je pense est un endroit sublime alors j'ai choisis, peut être est ce une erreur? J'aimerai bien faire la boucle vers Iguazu mais pour cela je devrais prendre encore un vol je pense et niveau budget ça ne va plus le faire....
Pour la voiture de loc : totalement raison si c'est pour circuler du point a au point b et être naze en arrivant pas moyen!!

Là, tu ne fais ni le nord, ni le sud, mais un peu de tout sans tout faire, c'est dommage.
Fais un vrai choix (nord-sud) et choisis ton itinéraire sur la base de cela. Tu retourneras en Argentine une 2ème fois pour voir l'autre moitié 😉 moi aussi d'ailleurs 😛
Je pense qu'il faut revoir ton planning, c'est la course tout le long. Fait un choix définitif entre le nord ou le sud.
Fais une liste de ce que tu souhaites voir et faire dans la région nord et la région sud. Marque les points positifs et points négatifs et ca te permettra de choisir.

Vu le nombre de transports en bus prévu, ton budget me semble un peu juste.

BA vers Bariloche en Vol Si tu retiens tes vols 'Aérolinas argentinas' à l'avance, c'est nettement moins cher. Attention les avons ne sont JAMAIS à l'heure en Argentine.
Bariloche on remonte la RN 40 jusque Salta en bus ou voiture de loc Nous avons payé en octobre dernier 850 pesos +/- 130€ (pr 2) pour aller de Mendoza à BA à cause d'un vol supprimé. Mendoza vaut la peine, la ville est superbement "verte" des arbres et des parcs partout.
Salta Cordoba BA en bus Salta mérite une visite mais nous avons passé 7 jours à visiter des paysages qui se ressemblent étrangement..montagne, montagne, montagne!!! Restaurant El Charrua excellent. El tren à la Nubes... cher et très, très très long (départ 7h du mat<retour 23h).
Nous avons fait, organisé par Argentinian Explorer, une agence de voyage sur place, B A, Iguazu, Salta, Mendoza avec chaque jours des excursions , les vols intérieurs, le vol international, logement dans des hôtels 3 ou 4*pour +/- 3000€.
L'argentine est un superbe pays. J'ai fait la Patagonie il y a 5 ans et maintenant le nord...Si j'y retourne, ce sera ...La Patagonie.

Quand au Nord, n'omets pas de visiter les petits villages de Purmamarca, humahuaca et j'en passe!
POur la loc de voiture ça peut être une super alternative pour faire la route des vins.

Quand au budget, les bus cama sont hyper chers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

en gros, moi je suis partie sur BA - Iguazu - vol pour Salta - un certains nombre de jours encore à déterminer (et c'est super difficile) pour faire la boucle au nord et au sud de Salta - et après qqch comme Mendoza (pour faire un petit saut à Santiago du Chili) - Cordoba - et retour sur BA.
enfin, ce n'est qu'un ébauche, là je bûche sur la région de Salta, j'ai l'impression que je pourrais y passer les 3 semaines ! dur dur... 😛

Pour Salta, je me pose les mêmes questions... il y a bcp de km à parcourir, je pense que je vais opter pour une agence sur place - question d'être sure d'optimiser le tour - ou par nous mêmes par le bus local.
Sommes en pleine réflexion... 😊 Chacun y va de son avis, pas évident de faire un choix 🙂

En tout cas un truc qui me rassure c'est qu'apparemment il n'y a pas trop de soucis pour trouver sans réserver à l'avance des Hôtels, auberges ou autre, on peut le faire au jour le jour...
Pour le vol interne Iguazu Salta , ça se passe comment exactement car je ne vois pas de vol direct pourtant il me semble que je l'ai bien vu quelque part... ceci dit apparemment c'est moins cher de le réserver avant?
oui en fait je me suis faite une idée en voyant une superbe photo mais en fait je crois que c'est le truc bien touristique donc c'est sans regret que j'ai changé mon itinéraire merci !
Je m'interroge sur ma descente de salta vers Mendoza; soit je m'arrête vers la rioja pour aller vers Chileciton ou alors je vais vers san juan ou direct Mendoza, que pensez vous de ces étapes?
Je te rejoins sur la ville en elle-même, quoiqu'elle puisse prendre des allures de paradis pour les amateurs de chocolat !!!
Par contre, comme nous y étions en hiver (août), nous gardons un excellent souvenir de la station de ski de Cerro Catedral où nous retournerions bien volontiers.
Il est vrai que le côté froid, neige, sports d'hiver prend plus de sens pour des habitants de zones chaudes.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.

I’ve sketched out a rough itinerary but I’m not sure how to arrange it—considering the climate, year-end holidays, and Carnival.
Basically, I’m thinking of the Amazon, the Northeast coast with Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (but skipping Chapada Diamantina),
Ouro Preto, Paraty, and Ilha Grande—but no Rio visit.

Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?

From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?

I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.
