Pouvez-vous nous dire si cela vous semble envisageable ? Surtout au niveau des transports, nous avons lus pas mal de discussion sur les difficultés des transports en Indonésie. Après, nous ne programmons pas les hôtels, transports en avance pour se laisser une marge de liberté dans notre parcours une fois sur place. je projette un voyage aux îles Togian avec ma fille de 16 ans et après quelques jours au Poki Poki on vise l'île de Malenge.

en essayant de sélectionner notre hébergement je me perds complètement. et je me disais que des expériences récentes pourraient sans doute m'aider. entre Sera Beach, Sandy Bay, Malenge Indah, Lestari (j'ai lu que ce dernier venait de changer de propriétaire est-ce exact?)... sur ces endroits je lis un peu tout et son contraire alors pas évident de me faire une idée... par ailleurs je me demande quels pourraient être les avantages et inconvénients d'être plutôt au nord ou au sud...? proche ou loin du petit village... et d'ailleurs est-ce qu'on peut relier à pied Pulau Papan depuis Sandy, Sera etc?

Un petit compte rendu sur l'ile de Siau où nous sommes allés fin aout. Ile facilement accessible de Manado par le ferry rapide 4 h ou bateau de nuit environ 7 h de trajet .

L'île de SIAU est magnifique, ici pas encore de tourisme , végétation incroyable, population acceillante. Pleins de choses à y voir, notamment le volcan karangetan, volcan en éruption lors de notre passage, volcan très actif, le voir la nuit est vraiment indescriptible.

L'ile possède des tarsiers que l'on peut voir dans leur élément naturel. Accompagné on a pu en voir plusieurs en passant dans la jungle.

Les sources d'eau chaude sont surprenantes.

La plage de mahoro est a voir , elle semble magnifique mais nous n'avons pas pu y aller car beaucoup de vagues lors de notre séjour.

Ile spécialisée dans les noix de muscade on en voit partout dans la végétation et a sécher sur le bord des routes.

Rien que pour le volcan cela vaut vraiment le coup d'y aller, un coup de coeur pour cette île qui pour le moment est loin des circuits touristiques habituels et pourtant tellement facile d'accès depuis Manado.

Voir la lave, entendre les explosions du volcan, voir les habitants le matin surveiller leur volcan vraiment une aventure exceptionnelle.

Nous avions un guide sur place, Dominik Derek (Tél watsapp : + 62 853 986 669 99 ) est indonésien très investi dans l'ile, une personne adorable très cultivé et parlant bien l'anglais. Il nous a permis de vraiment profiter facilement des trésors de Siau et a été à l'écoute tout le temps de notre séjour.

Hey everyone, I travel quite a bit, and I’m here to share my thoughts about an upcoming trip to Indonesia, specifically the Togian Islands.

I’m planning to go for 3 or 4 weeks in July-August and looking for a sunny destination that’s not too expensive (flights + cost of living), with varied points of interest. About fifteen years ago, I had planned a trip to the Togian Islands, but it didn’t happen, so I’m revisiting this destination (Sulawesi, Toraja country) + maybe others? Given that in Indonesia, I’ve already done volcanoes in Java, Bali, part of Lombok, and the Gili Islands. The issue is that I’ve read some posts about the plastic waste problems around the Togians, and it seems like they’re not the paradise islands they once were.

So, I have a few questions: I’d love to hear recent feedback from travelers who’ve been to the Togians to get an objective opinion (?) or if you’d recommend other paradise-like islands in Indonesia (not overcrowded).

If you confirm that it’s still an exceptional destination, what did you pair it with? The Moluccas and which islands in particular? Or Flores/Komodo? For my part, I don’t scuba dive—just snorkeling.

Finally, if you have other dream-island destinations (affordable and sunny), I’m all ears.

Bali hors des sentiers battus, c’est possible ?

Un “Bali autrement”, authentique : on en rêve..! Mais il ne faut pas se le cacher, l’île des dieux est convoitée. Étant adepte des grands espaces et du “hors sentiers battus”, Bali nous a fait hésiter. Et sur place, on a effectivement été confronté à une urbanisation galopante, aux foules de touristes, aux rabatteurs, aux enseignes tapageuses, aux boutiques de grandes marques et d’autres choses que l’on préfère fuir ! Alors sortir des sentiers battus quand on va à Bali est très difficile. Malgré cela, on te donne quelques idées, anecdotes et conseils pour vivre un Bali autrement, un Bali authentique, un Bali hors des sentiers battus. Hi everyone, First post in years on the forum—I’m so happy it’s back up and running!

I’ve been wrestling with this question for weeks now: Flores or Sulawesi?

I’m leaving in July for 24 days, followed by 2 weeks around Makassar/Wakatobi for work. For the first part, I’m traveling with my family (my partner + 3 kids aged 6 to 14).

I’ve had a long-time dream of Komodo, but I’m worried it’s become super touristy... though the crossing to Maumere still sounds amazing. I’m also not thrilled about all the internal flights.

On the other hand, since I’ll be in Sulawesi anyway, I’m thinking a crossing from Gorontalo to Luwuk via the Togians (maybe even a few days in Banggai) + a detour to Toraja (which I visited 10 years ago) could be an incredible trip too.

For my family, this is their first trip to Indonesia, so I’d love it to feel *mythic* ;).

Any advice is welcome—I’m really struggling to decide! I know it’s a choice between two great options...

In early July, we’re heading to Indonesia for a solid three weeks as a family (my partner and I are in our fifties, and we have two daughters aged 17 and 20). We’ll be arriving and departing from Denpasar. Our itinerary is still entirely up in the air, and we’d like to explore islands other than Bali (we’ve already been there a few years ago).

I’d love to gather your tips and great recommendations to help us plan our route. For now, we’re thinking of visiting Lombok, Flores, and the Komodo archipelago. Here are some of our questions: - I visited Lombok myself back in 1999. I loved it, but I’ve been reading very mixed reviews in recent travel journals. Some are as enthusiastic as I was back then, while others are much more lukewarm (due to the overly strict and visible influence of the island’s governor on the population and because of massive hotel projects—I’m not sure if they’re on hold, underway, or completed). What’s the current situation? Is Lombok still a must-visit? And do you have any tips (hotels, places to visit, health, etc.)? - Still on Lombok, I did the Rinjani trek back then. I remember the hike wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t as tough as what I’ve read in quite a few recent travel journals... My partner and I are in decent shape, but that’s about it, and especially, my partner and our two daughters really don’t like the cold. What’s your experience with this trek? And do you have a trekking agency to recommend? (If we do it, I think we’d want to make sure we have good support, including quality gear, tents, jackets, etc.) - Flores and Komodo would be a completely new experience for all of us. Any tips and recommendations are welcome (sightseeing, accommodations, transport, etc.)! In particular, we’d like to explore the Komodo archipelago with a trusted agency that will take the time to show us the archipelago’s treasures in good conditions (safety and "decent" comfort). Do you know of any such agencies? - Are there other nearby islands you’d recommend? Any advice on places to visit and where to stay?

We’ll have three weeks on the ground... and we like to mix sightseeing with downtime where we just enjoy the moment. So we’re not looking for an overly packed itinerary, but still something rich (no point traveling so far just to lie on a sunbed all day ;-))

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.

En juillet 2019 j'ai visité Bali en famille (couple + 2 garçons de 8 et 10 ans). C'était formidable, je ne vais pas écrire un long carnet car il y en a déjà de très nombreux très beaux sur cette île mais je partage mon circuit et qlq infos pouvant être utiles aux futurs voyageurs à Bali. N'hésitez pas si vous avez des questions!

Itinéraire : J1 : Denpasar-Sanur (1h) J2 à 4 : Nusa Lembongan J5 : trajet de Nusa Lembongan à Keliki, super village au Nord d'Ubud où on peut loger chez l'habitant et où certains parlent français. (voir "Keliki painting school") En route visite de Goa Gajah+ un autre temple. Courte balade dans les rizières de Keliki. J6 : prévu grande balade dans les rizières mais fortes pluies :( remplacé par Ubud Monkey Forest J7 : Route de Keliki à Munduk avec en route visite du temple Batukau, des rizières de Jatiluwih et du temple de Bedugul J8 et 9 : Munduk: balades jungle, lac, cascades... J10 à 12 : Amed plage et snorkeling J13 : trajet Amed-Ubud avec visites Tirta Ganga Water Palace et palais Kertha Gosa J14 à 19 : Ubud visites des environs : balades rizières à pied (dont une jusqu'à Keliki), Tirta Empul et Gunung Kawi, journée à vélo en petit groupe (10 pers) avec "Happy bike tour", musée des masques à Mas.... départ le dernier jour au soir.

Des idées de budget : - Vols Amsterdam-Denpasar Emirates avec une escale : 620 euros/pers, acheté en janvier. Départ le 27/6 - logement à chaque fois 2 chambres, parfois communicantes. En moyenne 68 euros/nuit pour 4 mais en fait très variable car on a alterné le simple (20 euros/nuit) , le "moyen" et on s'est une fois offert le luxe (140 euros/nuit). On a toujours prévu avec clim mais ça a rarement été utile, il ne faisait pas trop chaud. Pour économiser sur ce poste, on aurait pu prendre des chambres triples et un enfant loge dans le lit double, souvent bien grand, avec ses parents (comme les balinais). Mais comme on aime bien bien dormir pour être en forme la journée, on n'a pas fait ce choix. - repas dans des restos, environ 7-8 euros/personne pour plat +boisson+parfois dessert. On aurait pu économiser en buvant moins de Bintang :-) On n'a pas vu beaucoup de possibilités de manger en rue (contrairement à d'autres pays d'Asie).

Les coups de coeur : - les rizières à pied, surtout près de Keliki - loger chez l'habitant - Amed, plage de sable noir et snorkeling avec les tortues - des balinais super accueillants - la région de Munduk - les prix généralement annoncés sont assez juste, il ne faut pas beaucoup marchander, sauf bien sûr au marché à Ubud - le confort de se déplacer en voiture avec chauffeur

On a moins aimé : - Ubud centre bondé de monde, même de piétons ! (en juillet) - les embouteillages autour d'Ubud qui finalement nous on fait renoncer à l'une ou l'autre visite pourtant pas loin - plusieurs fois des soucis de compréhension sur les chambres réservées. Typiquement on avait réservé 2 chambres voisines et on nous donnait 2 chambres à des étages différents. Pas bien grave mais quand on arrive fatigué après un long trajet... - ne pas pouvoir aller dans la mer à Nusa Lembongan car il y avait du vent qui faisait de trop grosses vagues (on a pu y aller uniquement depuis un bateau lors d'une excursion snorkeling). heureusement notre hôtel avait une piscine !

Summer seems to be the best time weather-wise for Bali. And since summer’s when we can take a long trip, let’s go for Bali... even though we know it’ll be *packed* with people! So we’ll steer clear of the island’s south...

Our current plan (19 days on the ground, 7 stops): - 4 Nights (3 days) in Ubud 2 days for rice terraces / activities (Tegallalang, Campuhan Ridge, Monkey Forest, Bird Park, coffee plantation, market (?), dance "pestacle," cooking class and/or spa) 1 day with a driver for the Temples (Pura Gunung Kawi, Tirta Empul Spring, Pura Mengening, Goa Gajah...) - 2 nights in Sidemen (1 day for Pura Kehen + Batur Caldera + Pura Besakih and 1 day to relax in the rice terraces) - 3 nights on Gili Meno (Rest and beaches) from Padangbai - 2 nights in Amed (1 day from Padangbai with the Abang rice terrace and Tirta Gangga baths, and the next day a boat tour in Amed) - 4 nights in Pemuteran (1 day for transfer and rest, 1 day to visit Kawah Ijen, and 2 days of snorkeling at Menjangan Island) - 2 nights in Munduk (1 day with the Dayang rice terrace and the 3-waterfall hike, 1 day at Pura Ulun Danu Bratan) - 2 nights in Jatiluwih (1 day in the rice terraces, and on the last day, we’ll stop by Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi and Pura Tanah Lot before catching our red-eye flight).

Accommodations in homestays or hotels. Transportation to be arranged on-site with the lodgings (?) Boat to Gili Meno to book in advance (?) Kawah Ijen excursion to plan ahead (?)—check with the homestay (?)

Hi there, we’re planning to spend a month in Lombok in July 2026 and would love to hear your thoughts on Gili Gede.

We really enjoy snorkeling, preferably from the beach (so we don’t have to rely on renting a boat). On the side, we also love short hikes of a few hours—like to waterfalls or through rice fields (max 5–6 hours round trip). We’d like to stay in small family-run hotels away from the crowds (but with a pool, since our kids love spending their evenings there).

Do you think Gili Gede checks at least 2 of these 3 boxes (snorkeling + small family-run hotels away from the crowds)? Would you recommend a better spot in Lombok that ticks all 3 boxes?

Hi everyone, I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027. 10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta. We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo). I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself. But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal... Thanks for any tips or experiences you can share!

Hi everyone on the forum, happy to be back! I’m planning a 15-day trip to Flores in October. I’m coming from Bali, which I know well, as well as Lombok and Sulawesi, but it’s my first time in Flores. I’d love to hear about your experiences—what should I see? How long should I stay at each stop? I travel at a relaxed pace and won’t be renting a scooter. I enjoy walking, exploring, and taking it easy—not just lounging on beaches. For some trips, I can hire a driver and car if public transport is complicated. Thanks for your tips! 🙂

We’ve already explored Bali, eastern Java, and its volcanoes back in 2013, and we’d love to return to Java to discover other spots that aren’t so "mainstream." There’ll be three of us—a couple and our 25-year-old son. We love nature, small towns, villages, beautiful landscapes, and a bit of beach time... We’re used to backpacking around Southeast Asia. Any tips for exploring some great spots in Java in a coherent way, with 3 or 4 bases for a 3-week trip from late June to mid-July? We don’t want to revisit Bromo or Ijen (they seem way too crowded compared to 2013), and we might swing by Djogja but won’t redo Borobudur or Prambanan (same issue...). Looking forward to your tips! Then we plan to go to Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, and Lake Toba before finishing up on Pulau Weh. Yeah, I know three weeks is short, but we like taking our time now that we’re in our fifties 😄. My questions: - Which direction should we do the loop: Medan → Bukit Lawang → Lake Toba → Medan (we’ll be traveling by taxi)? - Can I buy the Medan/Banda Aceh flights just 10 days in advance while we’re there? J'ai volontairement évité la presqu'île de Bukit car nous ne sommes pas adeptes de la fête balnéaire.

Je me demande si aller 2 jours à Permuteran se justifie ? ou mieux vaudrait rajouter 1 nuit à Ubud et 1 nuit ailleurs ? Difficile de faire des choix .... J'hésite aussi entre prendre des chauffeurs au fur et à mesure ou me mettre en contact avec un guide dès maintenant et qu'il nous organise les visites, les transferts et les commentaires...

Vol Kuala puis Banda Aceh. Un hotel pas trop excentré dans cette ville a me conseillé ?

Pour démarrer tranquille direction Pulau Weh et la grande question Gapang ou Iboih ? Un hébergement qui sort du lot ? Peu être un saut a LhokNga et Lampuuk sans doute plus tranquille.

Puis looong trajet pour Ketambe. Ensuite mes doutes et interrogations commencent :

Quid de Simeulue ?

NIAS est elle simplement un repaire de surfCamp en dollars australiens ? Y a t'il des coins petit budget et sympathiques ?

Les BANYAK ? Difficle d'avoir des infos pratique sur quel coin sont agréables, de bon gout et accessibles ? Le LP parle de Pulau Tailana et Pulau Sikandang plus une autre ile, tuangku avec lodge et Surfcamp et bastas. Avez vous des infos récentes ? Tout le monde a l'air de regretter de pas y avoir été. C'est sur que l'accés est un peu compliqué quand on a pas trop de temps. Ensuite saute montagne pour le lac Toba. mais c'est peu être plus judicieux de faire cette étape avant et de rejoindre Singkil après. Avez vous des adresses inoubliables, incontournables, inavouables sur les pourtours de ce fameux Lac Toba ? (dont j'entends parlé depuis si longtemps). Ensuite cap au sud. Et les classiques mais sans doute formidable vallée d'Harau, Bukittinggi et Danau Maninjau. la encore si vous avez des infos. Grosse interrogation sur les iles Mentawai (double ??). Je peux pas trop faire de long treck avec un genou qui couine rapidement cela vaut t'il le deplacement pour aller suer dans la boue ou est ce vraiment intéressant ? Postcriptum révérencieux : Je ne peux pas poster un message sur l'Indonésie sans m'incliner chapeau bas devant le triptyque qui nous font réver, nous donne le pouls du pays, de leur avis et remarques, parfois sans appels, mais à lire avec une délectation toujours nouvelle, (calme, tu part dans les aigus mon gars, bouge tranquille) donc hommage a l'archimandrite Mohamma2 aux conseil sur et avisé dont on se demande quel ilot n'a t'il pas exploré, ; a l'indispensable ange Gabriel Lolo des iles, moine copiste de l'Indonésie, valeureux Sasak, toujours prompt a généreusement partager des infos et dont l'image perché sur son bateau vous rassure tout de suite (c'est la clé de quoi autour du cou, ça fait 25 ans que je me le demande ???) et pour finir je ne saurai oublier la sombre figure tutélaire, magnanime, implacable, intrépide au possible, Mr Naps bien sur, le roi des petits moustachu, nabab des 13466 iles. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!

For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

Hi there, I’m heading to Indonesia for a month this summer and will spend a few days on the island of Lombok.

I initially planned to spend 3 nights in Senaru to explore the surrounding area (village, waterfalls, etc.—but no volcano trek) for 2 days and then take a day trip by scooter to discover Sembalun (mainly the Bukit Selong viewpoint) before returning to sleep in Senaru. After that, I’d head to Kuta Lombok.

But I’m considering two other options: 1) Stop at the Bukit Selong viewpoint with the taxi that’ll take us from Senaru to Kuta (though I’m not sure if it’s a big detour). 2) Stay only 2 nights in Senaru, then spend one night in Sembalun before heading to Kuta.

What do you think? Should I stick with my original plan (visiting Sembalun as a day trip by scooter from Senaru) or go for one of the other two options?

A savoir qu'on a un chauffeur privé francophone sur les J2, J3, J4 et J6.

Si je vous écrit ici, c'est parce que j'ai lu divers avis sur Bali en général, sur la culture et aussi les "arnaques" et "pompes à fric"... J'aimerais donc avoir vos avis, est-il vrai qu'il faut sans cesse savoir dire "non" pour tous les services proposés par les balinais sur place ? Faut il vraiment négocier à la dure (on parle de faire baisser les prix en les divisant par 5 parfois !) ? A un mois du départ, je commence à devenir un peu angoissé à l'idée d'avoir tout le temps quelqu'un sur le dos à nous voir comme un porte feuilles ambulant ! Et paraît-il que l'île est très sale ...

Overall, what do you think?

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled. We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary. We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).

Special note: we love traveling by train :)

Here’s what we’ve planned so far:

**Day 1** Arrival in Jakarta, then domestic flight to Yogyakarta. Settle in Yogyakarta.

**Day 2** Borobudur in the morning, then exploring nearby villages.

**Day 3** Prambanan in the morning, followed by culinary discovery / market / local vibe in Yogyakarta.

**Day 4** Train to Jombang, then driver/bus to the Bromo area. Overnight stay.

**Day 5** Sunrise at Bromo, exploring the volcano and sea of sand. Relax in the afternoon.

**Day 6** Travel to eastern Java, then train, ferry, and road to reach Sidemen in Bali.

**Day 7** Sidemen

**Day 8** Sidemen

**Day 9** Sidemen

**Day 10** Transfer to Gili Air (car to the port + fast boat?)

**Day 11** Gili Air

**Day 12** Gili Air

**Day 13** Transfer to Ubud

I’m trying to plan a short trip (just under two weeks) to Flores at the end of March, beginning of April, and I’ve got *so* many questions... - **Transport**: From what I’ve gathered, the only flights to Maumere are from Denpasar (or Labuan Bajo), right? Did I get that right? And for getting around the island, I was thinking of hiring a car with a driver for the main routes (we don’t ride motorbikes...). Any idea what the going rate is? And do you have any trusted contacts to recommend? - **Timing**: Even though the best season is later, is the weather still manageable at that time—especially for snorkeling with calm seas and good visibility? - **Komodo archipelago cruise**: I was considering a 3-day, 2-night cruise at the end of the trip, from Labuan Bajo to Komodo. Something comfortable (cabin with private facilities). I saw what Captain Komodo offers on the Alcira—has anyone tried it? Otherwise, any other recommendations?

Yeah, I know it’s a lot of questions! Usually, I travel a bit more spontaneously, but the transport logistics are making me a little nervous—we only have two weeks, so if it takes 5 flights and 3 days of travel just to get to Maumere, we might have to pick a more accessible destination...
