Bonjour, demain je dois prendre un autobus de la compagnie Futa Bus à partir de Can Tho pour me rendre à la station d’autobus Mien Tay à Ho chi minh. J’aimerais savoir si à la station Mien Tay je peux prendre un autobus qui m’amènera près de mon hôtel le Duc Vuong Hôtel dans le district 1 de Ho Chi Minh. hier a l'aeroport de phu quoc un couple d'occidentaux se voyaient refuser l'embarquement sur un vol domestique car ils n'avaient pas de masque et la compagnie n'en fournis pas donc il vaut mieux avoir des masques dans son sac , j'attendais avec ma compagne vietnamienne derriere ce couple qui était desemparé , moi meme je n'avais qu'un seul masque , que m'a compagne m'avait donné!! celle ci entendant l'hotesse d'enregistrement qui parlait un peu dur, a ouvert sa valise a puisé dans sa reserve de masque et a offert deux masques a ce couple qui se sont fondus en remerciement , en leur disant welcome in vietnam!! ce geste m'a enormement touché et m'aurait touché tout autant meme si ce n'était pas ma compagne

Bonjour Pour se rendre à Con Dao le moyen le plus simple reste l'avion depuis HCMC où Cantho si vous êtes en balade dans le Delta du Mékong. Mais pour l'avion il faut réserver son billet plus d'une semaine à l'avance ce qui peut être contraignant. Il y a donc maintenant une liaison par bateau rapide de la compagnie Phu Qoc Express au départ de Vung Tau Départ à 8am chaque jour vendredi excepté, tarif 660 000VND en semaine 880 000VND le week-end. Question: I’m stopping at Gieng Island—are there public buses from Ho Chi Minh City or Sa Dec that go near the ferry dock for this little island? Question: How do you get to Tram Chim National Park (the bird sanctuary) by bus? Finally, is there an app for public transport in southern Vietnam? Bonjour, Nous voyageons avec notre fille de 2 ans avec les transports locaux, mais pas envisageable pour nous de moto ou moto-taxi. Nous souhaiterions inclure une étape lors de notre passage dans le Delta du Mékong entre Chau Doc et l'île de Anh- Binh. Quelle étape pourriez-vous nous conseiller, qui soit sur la route entre les deux ou vraiment pas loin, complémentaire au niveau des choses que l'on peut voir sur ces 2 étapes (tant qu'à faire) et surtout qui soit réalisable en transport en commun hors deux roues motorisées (hors scooter, moto ou motot-taxi donc). Sur place on aime bien marcher un peu, faire un tour en bateau ou à vélo (on a un siège pour notre fille). On disposerait de 2/3 nuits maximum sur place. Après Anh Binh nous irons à Ho Chi Minh Ville pour prendre l'avion. Merci d'avance pour vos conseils.

Hi there, We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I couldn’t find any recent posts on this topic, so I thought I’d create a new one. We’ve just started planning our family trip to Vietnam this coming August. We’d like to travel from North to South, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh.

Usually, we rent a car when we arrive and manage on our own. But I get the feeling that in Vietnam, it’s more complicated... It seems like the only option we have is to rent a car with a driver? Is that really the case?

I’m thinking of starting with a cruise in Halong Bay since we arrive on my partner’s birthday, and I wanted a beautiful setting to celebrate it. So, is the option of having a driver wait for 2 days while we’re on the cruise really feasible?

The rest of the itinerary isn’t planned at all yet. I’d love to hear your tips. We’re traveling from August 8th (morning) to the 26th (afternoon).

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

We’re traveling as a family of three adults for the holidays. After several iterations, here’s the itinerary we’re considering. We’d thought about including Bac Ha or Mai Chau, but in the end, we wanted to avoid excessive travel and rushing around. That’s not our style—we’d rather see less but have time to enjoy what we visit at a relaxed pace. We’ll definitely be back (in a better season) to see some of what we’ll miss this time. Just to note: we’re not motorbike riders, and we’re not the type to start our days at dawn and keep going until nightfall. We go at the pace of the day’s mood and energy. My questions: - Thoughts on the itinerary? - Ninh Binh: where’s the best place to stay to explore mostly on foot, by bike, or by taxi? - Cat Ba to Ninh Binh route: is it better to arrange it through one of our accommodations (departure or arrival) or handle it ourselves? - For the return day between Ninh Binh and Hanoi, I’d like to visit some sights rather than make a direct trip, since we’ll already spend enough time in Ninh Binh and Hanoi. I was thinking of the Perfume Pagoda and possibly Quang Phu Cau. But we’d need a car for the day. Is it better to organize in advance or on the spot? In Hanoi or Ninh Binh? Any driver recommendations? Price ideas? Other suggestions for things to see along the way?

Nous arrivons au Nord et descendons vers le sud.

Nous souhaitons pour finir le voyage ce poser sur une île 4 à 5 jour. Nous hésitons entre koh rong et phu quoc.

Phu quoc semble plus accessible étant déjà dans le sud du Vietnam mais selon mes commentaires lu cette ile s'est très devellope et donc a perdu du charme, beaucoup de saletés... contrairement à l'île de koh rong qui semble plus paisible et avec de très belle plage.

Si des personnes sont aller à l'un ou les deux, je suis preneuse d'avis...

Hello. In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.

- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).

- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).

- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?

- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.

- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!

- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.

- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.

That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before: - Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

( Aller retour sur Saïgon ) J'aimerais m'arrêter dans les lieux que vous pensez intéressants et parcourir, de- ci , de-là quand c'est possible, la campagne à vélo, loger si possible chez l'habitant ( "maison d'hôtes" homestays.) voir des marchés etc......Si vous avez un itinéraire à me suggérer des lieux à ne pas manquer et des adresses de homestays j'attends vos conseils. I’m currently in Hoi An—I hadn’t set foot here for 8 years. The city has already changed a lot, with lots of construction, and even in the old town, along one side of the riverbank, there are huge residential buildings going up that take away some of the charm of this place. But the worst part is the overtourism—it’s impossible to walk across the famous bridge in the middle of the canal in the evening because it’s so packed with people. There’s also a new trend: massage parlors have opened in the old town and around the city. I was shocked—people call out to you or even grab your arm on the sidewalk, and it’s everywhere. Bangkok and Phuket might start shaking—Hanoi’s the same way.

Anyway, let’s talk about the dual pricing specifically for non-Vietnamese tourists. We went to a restaurant near our hotel last night, and they gave us an English menu—okay, fine! But I noticed the table next to us, where Vietnamese tourists had a different menu. Weird! I asked to see the same menu as my neighbors, but the waitress refused, saying it was in Vietnamese and we wouldn’t understand. I insisted, and she finally agreed. Surprise!!! The prices on the two menus were different, with the English one up to 50% more expensive. I asked why, and she got flustered, telling me to just order from the Vietnamese menu, which I translated with my phone to see the local prices. I mentioned this to the hotel this morning, and the receptionist told me to go to restaurants where prices are displayed at the entrance to avoid getting ripped off. I just bought fresh bread this morning, and it was the same thing—the little loaf costs 4000 dong for Vietnamese people and 5000 dong for non-Vietnamese. It’s not a huge difference, but this way of doing things isn’t right. At supermarkets like VinMart+, prices are displayed, so there’s no surprise or dual pricing there.

On recherche des vacances en Asie car c'est moins cher qu'en France et en Europe. Nous n'aimons pas l'Europe et nous partons souvent aux usa mais l'été prochain nous aurons un budget plus serré.

Hi there, After arriving in Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of March 26, where I think I’ll stay for maybe two days (or more?), we’d like to spend a few days in the Mekong Delta. Is it better to stay in one place (Vinh Long, Cai Be, My Tho, An Binh, etc.) and take boat trips every day, or split our time between two or three spots, which means changing accommodation and moving our luggage around? Of course, agencies offer 3- or 5-day tours from Ho Chi Minh City, but are they really worth it, both financially and in terms of the visits themselves? What’s your experience with this? Bonjour, Nous sommes un couple avec nos 2 filles de 12 et 15 ans et nous serons au vietnam du 14/02 au 01/03. Quelqu'un peut il me conseiller sur l itinéraire en arrivant par Hanoï , sachant que nous voulons faire du Nord au sud avec en incontournable Baie de lan ha ( halong) et la baie terrestre d Halong, au centre Hoi an puis au sud le Delta du Mekong. Enfin nous souhaitons terminer par au moins 3 ou 4 jours de Balnéaire. En février, il fait froid donc certaines agences me conseillent quand meme le nord et d autres non ? Une alternative proposer et Mai Chau à priori ou rester un peu plus dans la campagne de Hoï an dans le centre . Je suis un peu perdue. Merci pour vos conseils.

Hi everyone, We have a chance to stop in Hanoi on our way from Japan back to France. We arrive on Tuesday, May 12th around 2 PM and leave for France on Saturday, May 16th around 10 PM. I’d like to do a 2-day cruise in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay, then either 2 days in Ninh Binh or 1 day. - 12/05: Hanoi - 13/05: cruise - 14/05: end of cruise and head to Tam Coc - 15/05: sightseeing - 16/05: early departure for Hanoi, day in Hanoi, then flight to France at 10 PM We don’t want to be overwhelmed by crowds of tourists and prefer to be on our own.
