Je vous soumets notre prochain projet de road trip afin d'avoir vos conseils sur d'éventuelles incohérences et/ou omissions.
Nous avons déjà fait 3 road trip aux USA :
- l'Ouest "classique" (Boucle San Francisco-Los Angeles en allant jusqu'à Moab, Page .... été 2016).
- Texas - Louisiane - Floride (de San Antonio à Miami .... été 2017).
- Boucle depuis Montréal - Maine - New York - Pennsylvanie - Niagara - Toronto (eté 2018).
Dates du voyage : du 17 juillet au 12 août 2020 (billets déjà réservés).
Couple avec une ado de 15 ans. Nous aimons rouler, mais également faire de petites randos (1h à 2h max). Pour les villes, nous aimons les "Murals", les musées ou visites "décalés".
Impératif : 1 journée complète + la parade aux Cheyenne Frontiers Days (hôtel déjà réservé pour 2 nuits).
Arches, Grand Canyon, Monument Valey déjà vus .... Et on garde Yellostone pour un prochain road trip.

N'hésitez pas à me faire part de vos commentaires, le Nouveau Mexique n'est pas le plus visité et j'ai pioché les infos à droite et à gauche dans les différents carnets de voyage.
A Durango : nous ne souhaitons pas prendre le train jusqu'à Silverton pour une durée de 3h30, trop long à notre goût. nous avons déjà pris le train pour monter au Mont Washington, ce n'est pas notre truc.
J'ai essayé de placer la visite de certains parc en fonction de la chaleur ou pour la meilleure luminosité pour les photos (tôt le matin par exemple ou en fin de journée).
La plus longue étape est au jour 13 avec 500 kms environ.
J'hésite sur le jour 26 pour la remontée sur Denver à passer par Colorado NP après Black Gunnisson. Ce sera en fin de voyage, serait-il plus judicieux de passer par Grand Mesa Forest pour changer de paysage ?

Hello! The itinerary is pretty much set for August 2026. Yeah, I know it’s gonna be *super* hot. But it’s the only time we can get away.
So, here’s the plan: Montpellier-CDG-Dallas.
Stay from July 31 to August 26, 2026: Car rental – check, Hotels – check, Itinerary – almost check, Photo gear – check, Budget – check, 🤪 Meal planning – meh, we’ll see... Walmart, of course, for the cooler when we arrive.

Fort Worth: The Longhorns and the Stockyards; JR’s ranch (for the missus); Medal of Honor Museum – Arlington.
Houston and NASA Space Center: See the Gulf of Mexico/America.
San Antonio and the missions.
Fort Stockton for an overnight stop.
El Paso via Guadalupe Mountains: El Paso and White Sands.
Tucson and the Pima Air & Space Museum: Tombstone, Bisbee.
Phoenix:
Still working on the program.
Sedona: Round trip around the area via Flagstaff and Williams, or the Grand Canyon (already done) – we’ll decide on the spot.
Albuquerque: Santa Fe, Turquoise Trail, Los Alamos.
Amarillo via Route 66: Old Route 66 in the city; Big Texas Ranch Steak 😏.

Après plusieurs voyages aux Etats Unis ( Californie, parcs de l'ouest, New York, Floride), et dernièrement le Canada, le Brésil, l'Afrique du Sud, l'envie de retourner aux usa se fait ressentir.. nous devons retarder, encore, le projet Yellowstone , que nous voudrions faire fin juin, début juillet.. or pour 2020 les congés ne pourrons pas se prendre avant la période du 20/25 juillet voir début août. Donc beaucoup trop de monde je pense a Yellowstone.. alors pas grave, on repousse et je projette autre chose...
Nous sommes donc 2 adultes et une ado de 13 ans ( 14 ans pour l'été 2020) Nous savons qu'il fera chaud... Mais ça donnerait ceci sachant que nous partons de Nice. Nous avons déjà fait la Californie, 2 fois, mais pas le sud. Nous avons déjà fait las Vegas aussi.

Parc balboa, seaport village ou old town. Nuit a San Diego Jour 5: visite san Diego, port avion USS Midway, quartier gaslamp. Nuit a San Diego Jour 6: route vers Parc anza Borrego avec arrêt a julian. Nuit a Borrego springs Jour 7: route vers palm springs, accès téléphérique sur les hauteurs de la ville pour randonnée. Nuit a palm springs Jour 8: visite Indiana canyons. Nuit a palm springs ou nuit a entrée parc Joshua tree. Jour 9: visite Joshua tree. Nuit a twentynine Palm Jour 10: route vers overton pour visiter en fin de journée parc Valley of Fire. Nuit a overton Jour 11: visite parc Valley of fire tôt ( fire wave) puis route vers las Vegas. Shopping. Nuit a las Vegas Jour 12: las Vegas. Visite freemont street. Nuit a las Vegas Jour 13: las Vegas. Peut être un spectacle, cirque du Soleil qu'on a pas encore eu l'occasion de faire. Un détour via Julian vaut-il la peine. Si oui quelle serait la meilleure route (paysages), compte tenu que nous serons à la mi février et en voiture ordinaire non SUV.
San Diego route 79, route 78 et route S2 ou via route 111, dormir à Yuma.
Le lendemain nous partirions de Yuma vers Tucson.
Ou bien route directe I8 San Diego jusqu'à Tucson.
Ou bien route I8 jusqu'à Gila Bend, visite rapide le lendemain d'Organ Pipe et route Tucson, mais grand détour pour voir Organ Pipe sans SUV. Sécurité dans ce secteur accolé à la frontière.
Après la visite de Tucson nous nous dirigerons vers White Sands, dans le cadre d'une boucle de trois semaines. Autres questions à venir.

Bonjour, ayant initialement envisagé un voyage de deux mois dans l'Ouest à partir de fin mai 2023, je suis contraint de réduire sa durée à environ 5 semaines. J'ai énormément amputé l'itinéraire initial, notamment en supprimant Yellowstone et Grand Teton, qui feront l'objet d'un voyage spécifique, mais j'arrive quand même à un itinéraire de 45 jours. De plus, ne voulant ni rouler trop lors des étapes de transition, ni changer de lieu tous les jours, sauf exception, je ne suis pas satisfait de mon ébauche. Après trois road trips, nous pensons qu'il est important de se poser régulièrement au minimum 3 nuits, pour avoir le temps de visiter les alentours et aussi avoir le temps de souffler avec des journées sans rien de prévu. Nous voulons aussi faire une boucle LA-LA car nous aimons profiter du littoral et éviter les frais de drop charge.
Est-ce que les spécialistes pourraient me suggérer des idées pour raccourcir l'itinéraire suivant sans le vider de ses points d'intérêt majeurs et surtout de sa grande variété? Quelques endroits paraissent peut-être insignifiants mais j'y tenais de par leur côté Amérique profonde et isolement.

There are several attractions along the way: - Mormon Rocks - Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite - Joshua Tree National Park - Mojave Desert - Mojave National Preserve - Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.

Je pense avoir finaliser mon parcours 2021 et j'aimerai votre avis dessus.
Actuellement, départ le 06/10/2021 avec un retour au 30/10/2021 (Atterrissage le 31). On a essayé de caler un départ le plus tôt possible en Octobre et on ne peut faire mieux que ces dates. J'ai déjà 4 nuits réservées à Yellowstone sur les dates prévues. Pour le reste, rien n'est figé. Voyageant avec des enfants en bas âge, certaines étapes ont étés réduites en terme de kilomètres.
J1 (06/10) : Arrivée à Minneapolis à 13H - Nuit à Mankato. L'idée est d'avoir les vols sans escales et nous avons donc fait le choix de ne pas passer par Denver. Mankato n'est pas très loin de Minneapolis et cela permet de gagner 1H de route sur le lendemain.
J2: Mankato > Sioux Falls > Oacoma - Nuit à Oacoma Journée de route tranquille, rien de passionant.

Nous pensions faire: - Yellowstone - grand Teton - arches - salt lake city - gran canyon - Brice canyon - Zion -monument valley - Las Vegas - Los Angeles - Antelope canyon / lac Powel - Sequoia NP
Nous pensions prendre un vol interne entre SF et Bozeman puis louer une voiture pour faire Yellowstone. Seulement voilà d'après ce que j'ai pu lire sur différents sites yellowstone en novembre c'est compliqué ! Ma question est de savoir est ce que cela reste possible ?
Nous pensions passé 4/5 jours sur Yellowstone puis 2 jours du côté de grand Teton puis vol interne entre Jackson et Salt Lake.
De salt lake redescendre jusqu'à Las Vegas en visitant les parcs.
Las Vegas pendant 2 jours puis Los Angeles en avion ou voiture passé 3 jours à Los Angeles puis vol vers San Francisco, visiter pendant 3/4 jours et vol vers Paris.
Qu'en pensez vous ? Est ce possible ? Au sein de Yellowstone comment s'organiser au mois de novembre ? J'ai vu qu'il y avait possibilité de faire de la moto neige, raquette ou ski de fond. Est ce que l'un d'entre vous l'a expérimenté ? Peut on quand même voir les geysers, old faithful, grand prismatic spring, Hayden Valley et tous les autres sites de Yellowstone ? Peut on traverser le parc pour rejoindre grand Teton ensuite ?

Nous souhaitons visiter yellowstone fin juin mais j' ai du mal à déterminer ce qui faisable en une journée et où dormir.
Voici ce que nous avons prévu, en provenance de Moab:

j2 route vers grand teton , pouvez vous me conseiller un endroit où dormir?
j3 grand teton , est ce judicieux de dormir au même endroit que j3 ou faut il se rapprocher de yellowstone?

Voilà ce que j' avais prévu, tout en ayant envie de supprimer 1 jour quelque part pour le replacer à Moab où je n' ai que 2 nuits. Que pensez vous de supprimer J3 ou 1 journée à yellowstone ou faut il garder en l' état? malheureusement les vacances ne sont pas extensibles...
Pouvez vous me dire si les villes étapes sont cohérentes et ce qu' il est possible de voir en 1 journée.

je vais détailler au niveau des stop nuit mais j'ai besoin d'affiner au niveau des journées , même si j'avoue que nous c'est souvent un peu à l'arrache..
on ne randonne pas.. petite balade d'une heure une heure et demi..et pas avec 40 degrés..pour des raisons de santé. Par contre on peut rouler 😉 On préfère des stops d'au moins 2 nuits au même endroit.. même si cela oblige à plus de conduite.
Les vols sont réservés , la voiture aussi même si quand même assez cher (1500 usd)

je vais détailler au niveau des stop nuit mais j'ai besoin d'affiner au niveau des journées , même si j'avoue que nous c'est souvent un peu à l'arrache..
on ne randonne pas.. petite balade d'une heure une heure et demi..et pas avec 40 degrés..pour des raisons de santé. Par contre on peut rouler 😉 On préfère des stops d'au moins 2 nuits au même endroit.. même si cela oblige à plus de conduite.
Les vols sont réservés , la voiture aussi même si quand même assez cher (1500 usd)

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes: - East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop - West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop

Since we’re traveling with little ones, we’re keeping the number of stops limited to make things easier for them and avoid packing and unpacking every day.
Here’s the plan so far: Day 1: Land in Orlando at 6 PM Day 2: Orlando (rest day) Day 3: Disney World (Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starting at 4 PM, so we’ll pick one Disney park for the day) Day 4: Orlando > Anna Maria Island (stopping in St. Petersburg) Day 5: Anna Maria Island Day 6: Anna Maria Island > Fort Myers or Naples Day 7: Fort Myers or Naples Day 8: Visit Sanibel and stay overnight in Fort Myers or Naples Day 9: Fort Myers or Naples > Miami (via Shark Valley) Day 10: Miami Day 11: Miami > Keys (stopping in the Everglades?) For the 3 nights in Fort Myers or Naples, where do you think is better to stay? We’d like to spend one day on Sanibel and the rest relaxing. We’ve only planned 2 nights in Miami. Is that a mistake? Should we cut one night from Naples/Fort Myers to add an extra night in Miami? If so, maybe skip Sanibel. Also, does ending in the Keys instead of Miami seem like a bad idea? We’d be staying in Marathon or Islamorada, which keeps prices more reasonable since it’s a weekday. Plus, it lets us break up the drive from Naples to the Keys without adding an extra stop near the Everglades, which would mean another hotel change for the kids.

For the return, we’d leave SLC on Saturday, September 13, or Sunday, September 14. Our youngest starts classes on Monday, September 15, but he doesn’t mind starting a day later.
Some things are already booked and paid for and can’t be changed (or only with difficulty), so please keep that in mind in your comments. 😕
I’d love to hear about your experiences with a few questions:
* Is it too ambitious to include Arches in the road trip? Especially since the drives are long, particularly the Moab-Grand Teton stretch.
* What do you recommend doing around SLC?
* Same for Jackson. We’ve decided to spend two full days there to take a break between the national parks.
* For the return, I was wondering if spending a day in SLC before heading back to Europe might be a good idea.

We’ll be back for just one night in Las Vegas, and for that single night, we’re thinking of staying near the airport. The Luxor seems like a good option based on price—we want to splurge a bit more for the first 3 nights.
Our main priorities are cleanliness, and honestly, it feels like it’s hit-or-miss everywhere... Also, check-in seems to take forever at all these places, and since we land at 6 PM, by the time we get there... with the jet lag, the long check-in is really stressing me out... How’s the soundproofing at these hotels, by the way? We don’t need parking, and the pool isn’t a big deal for us :)
We’re open to other affordable suggestions!

Browsing the forum, I saw that Atlanta / Memphis / Nashville / Charlotte / Charleston / Savannah / Atlanta might be a good route. But I’m only planning to go for 14 days, and it seems like that might be too much. What do you think?
I mostly want to enjoy the music scene in the area and pass through the Smoky Mountains. I know I won’t have much time to stop for hiking, but oh well...
I’m saving Louisiana and New Orleans for another trip.

Route 66 in 30 days
From Chicago to Los Angeles with a few stops at sites near the route: a total of 6,800 km. Total trip cost: 8,600 € all-inclusive—flights, car rental, gas, meals (raw veggies and fruit for lunch, fast food in the evening), hotels, and little knick-knacks picked up here and there. British Airways flights from Basel-Mulhouse Midsize car from Dollar via AutoEurope. No issues on return. Accommodations booked through Booking
First off, we met really friendly people all along the way. Most attractions are free, and you can easily walk into bars, hotels, and gas stations without buying anything—though you might get kicked out.
The original Route 66 no longer exists in its entirety. Only sections remain, and signage varies by state. Plus, the route has changed over time. But with a good map or GPS, you can figure it out. I used the CoPilot app, which lets you download all the world’s maps for a small fee—so no data issues abroad. I’d noted the GPS coordinates of places to visit during my trip prep, which came in handy.
Along the route, you’ll find old gas stations, vintage motels (some renovated, some not) with their retro signs. The most famous is Bagdad Café. There are also tons of beautiful murals and the Muffler Men.
Chicago is an amazing city. We stayed for 2 days. The best move is to pick a hotel near a Blues Line metro station—it takes you straight from the airport to your hotel, then to downtown. At the end of the trip, the metro takes you back to the airport to pick up your rental car. The 72-hour pass is super convenient. Must-sees in Chicago: John Hancock Center (skip the Tilt option—it’s a rip-off), the Chicago Riverwalk all the way to Merchandise Mart, Picasso and Calder statues, The Bean and its reflections, and don’t miss the signs marking the start/end of Route 66.

Je prépare notre futur voyage (3 couples) pour septembre prochain (16 Sept - 15 Oct).
Il se déroulera en 2 temps, un couple rentrant en France le 3 Oct.
J'ai beaucoup lu posts et carnets de voyages (Merci à tous 🙂🙂) et je commence à y voir plus clair.
Une idée est un circuit "lent" avec des étapes courtes et du temps pour explorer les parcs (Las Vegas- Grand Canyon- Page- Monument Valley- Mesa Verde- Moab- Capitol Reef- Bryce Canyon- Zion- Death Valley- Las Vegas) J'ai un doc détaillé avec ce circuit établi à la lecture de vos expériences, mais cela serait trop long. Si c'est vers celui-ci que notre choix se porte, je reviendrai vers vous ;-)
L'autre idée est d'alléger ce circuit en supprimant certaines étapes et en passant moins de temps sur certains lieux afin d'intégrer Yellowstone (loin, mais si beau) pour compléter la découverte de l'Ouest pour nos amis qui partent le 3. Plus de route bien sûr. J'aimerai beaucoup avoir votre avis. Est-ce réalisable ? Des suggestions ?
Nous sommes prêts à faire quelques étapes longues mais pas tous les jours. Nous ferons des randonnées dans les parcs, mais pas trop et surtout des pas trop longues ni trop difficiles pour s'adapter à tout le monde. Merci beaucoup de votre aide

Merci encore à Martine (Marcalamar) et aux différentes personnes qui postent leurs carnets ou avis sur le forum, ce qui m'a permis de détailler pas mal les zones.
Nous arrivons de Great falls le jour 1 avec pause déjeuner à Livingston donc pas sur Mammoth avant 15H. Je ne sais pas la deadline le soir pour le check-in mais vu que celui-ci semble à partir de 16H30, je pense le faire en fin de journée après les activités prévues.
Jour 1: - TOWER FALLS - CALCITE SPRINGS OVERLOOK - LAMAR VALLEY (Jusqu'à Trout Lake Trailhead? Ou cela vaut il le coup de pousser jusqu'à Cooke city?)
Retour à Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins pour la nuit.

Je me permets de poster une demande car je suis un peu perdue dans l’etablissement de mon itinéraire. Nous avons pris des billets d’avion pour Denver aller retour (SLC était hors budget) et je souhaite visiter le Yellowstone, ainsi que la région de Moab. Ne connaissant pas les noms des lieux intéressants, ou à ne pas manquer entre ces lieux je ne sais où caler les itinéraires intermédiaires!!

2 - 22/08 route vers Casper (qui est à mi chemin pour le Yellowstone), nuit.
3 - 23/08 route vers Cody, pourquoi pas voir un rodéo si cela est possible
4- 24/08 entrée au Yellowstone, pour y passer 4 nuits (je pensais à 2 points de chute, j’ai vu un autre to pic en ce moment actif ou le membre avait mis la liste de ces hôtels et le prix je voulais prendre les mêmes que lui!)

Bonjour, nous allons partir en Road Trip dans l'Ouest Américain au départ de Los Angeles en Août 2020.
Nous sommes 5 (3 enfants de 15, 13 et 8ans).
Durée : 23jours
Hébergement : Hôtels / Motels / AirBNB
Véhicule : SUV loué sur place
Pour boucler notre parcours nous avons à choisir entre :
1) 2 nuits au Grand Canyon (1 journée et demi de visite) / une nuit à Mesa Verde NP (1 matinée de visite) puis le trajet Las Vegas - Death Valley - Yosemite en 1 journée sans visite de Mammoth Lakes et Bodie puis 2 nuits à San Francisco (1 jour et demi de visite)
ou
2) 1 nuit au Grand Canyon (1 journée de visite) / pas de visite de Mesa Verde NP puis 1 étape entre Las Vegas et Yosemite (nuit à Bishop) / Visite de Mammoth Lakes et Bodie le lendemain
puis 3 nuits à San Francisco (2 jours / 2 jours et demi de visite)
Donc j'hésite entre ces deux itinéraires, lequel est le meilleur pour découvrir l'Ouest ?
