Je pensais prendre la nuit suivante au Masebe Lodge par exemple.

Bonjour, je viens de réserver des billets pour l'afrique du sud à la Toussaint. Il est très tard pour réserver au Kruger, j'aurais bien besoin d'un coup de main! Je copie colle mon message sur le forum du routard où je n'ai pas reçu beaucoup de réponses.

J'arrive lundi 21 octobre à Johannesburg à 8h30. Je compte prendre le premier vol pour Cape Town et aller à Table mountain. Mardi 22: cap de bonne espérance et plage avec les manchots, 2e nuit à cape Town Mercredi 23 et jeudi 24: Hermanus et nuits à De Kelders en espérant voir plein de baleines. Vendredi 25: vol Cape Town Johannesburg, c'est là que ça se corse.

Option 1 Vendredi 25 vol cape town johannesburg, nuit blyde river Samedi 26: visite pilgrim le matin, nuit Olifants ou Satara Dimanche 27: nuit Orpen Lundi 28 nuit Skukuza Mardi 29: pas de place à Lower Sabie, donc soit je reste à Skukuza, soit je vais Biyamti, berg en dal ou Pretoriuskop Mercredi 30: dernière journee au Kruger, nuit au Sud du parc Jeudi 31: retour Johannesburg, vol à 22h30. I’d love to get your thoughts on our route and specifically on two points: - The time spent at each stop: does any seem too short or too long? - The domestic flights: do you think they’re a good choice? (Flight from Kruger to Durban + Durban to Port Elizabeth) We’ll rent a car each time we land. Or is it better to do the whole trip by car? Troisième road trip en 4X4 en préparation pour Août, après 2007 et 2012 . Arrivée en milieu de journée a JNB le 29/07, pour plus de confort nuit sur place. Je pense attaquer directement par le KTP pour 4/5 jours que l'on adore, avec si possible deux nuits en satellite camp, souvenir d'une expérience inoubliable à Garaghab. C'est là que ça se complique, on aimerais bien aller faire un tour en Namibie ou au Botswana avant de finir par le Kruger pour encore 5/6 jours. Vol retour le 13/08 au départ de JNB.

Nous sommes déjà allés 4 fois en Afrique du Sud et souhaiterions y retourner en début d'année prochaine. J'avais pensé aller aussi au KTP mais je crois que les hébergements se réservent presqu'un an en avance. Pourriez vous nous le confirmer, y a-t-il un plan B?

Pour l'Afrique du Sud, la terrasse côtière occidentale au départ de Cap town en montant jusqu'à Pella (c'est pour cela que le KTP me tentait) et ensuite redescendre par le great Karoo. Je ne suis qu'au début de ma réflexion, nous connaissons Cap town mais n'avons jamais visité le nord de cette magnifique ville. Merci de vos commentaires, je suis preneuse de toute suggestion.

Nous voyageons en voiture, nous créons notre itinéraire et nous choisissons nos hébergements sans passer par une agence.

I was thinking of continuing the questions from my first post, but since the title was changed... I’m starting a new thread

The plane should land on Saturday around 11 AM. After collecting luggage and the car, I think we’ll leave the airport between 1 and 2 PM. Question #1: Where should we stop along the way, allowing some buffer time so we don’t end up driving at night if the flight is delayed? (The idea isn’t to sightsee but just to take a break while making progress toward Kruger.)

We’ll spend part of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (a little over 4 days) in Kruger. Questions #2 and beyond: What route should we take? I’ve considered two options: either enter from the south (Malelane Gate?) and head north up to the Olifants area to exit at Orpen Gate. How many accommodations should we book in this case, and where? Or enter at Orpen Gate and exit near Hazyview (or the other way around, and near Hazyview, should it be Paul Kruger Gate or Phabeni?). In this case, it would allow us to spend 2 nights in one place and 2 in another, but we’d skip the south (or is it possible to visit it in a day?) Well, for accommodations (accessible by sedan), all suggestions are welcome… but I’ve checked October availability, and there aren’t many left 😕 I plan to spend Thursday in the park and exit before it closes to sleep outside, which would save time the next day for the drive to the airport. I was thinking of Hazyview (again, no sightseeing since we already visited the area in 2009), but do you have another/better idea?

For clarity, here’s a summary of the Kruger part: Day 1: Arrival in Johannesburg and drive to ? Day 2: Enter Kruger (likely late morning or early afternoon) Days 3, 4, and 5: Kruger with exit at the end of Day 5 Day 6: Drive to the airport for the Cape Town and surrounds portion

Regarding Kruger bookings, it seems (I lost my old notes when my hard drive crashed—I backed up work documents but not vacation ones, what a mess!) that you can monitor reservations, and if a preferred accommodation becomes available, you can book it and cancel the old one. Is that still the case? (And is it easy to do?)

Thanks in advance for your answers. I’m off to reread travel journals about Cape Town and will probably be back with more questions (the accommodation availability issue seems less urgent there, so less of a priority).

1. Entre Ganzhi et la Gates Xade : comment est la piste et combien de temps faut-il compter ?

2. Qui connaît la piste qui va de Nokaneng au Khaudum National Park ?

3. Comment sont les pistes et les campings du Khaudum National Park ?

4. Quelles région du Khaudum National Park est la plus sympa en paysages et animaux ?

5. Naye-Naye Concession Area vaut-elle une petite visite ?

6. Même question pour le Mangetti National Park ?

7. Depuis Okaukuejo quelle est la meilleure solution pour rejoindre Purros ? Nous pensions faire Opuwo - Orupembe - Purros - Palmwag !

8. Pour faire des photos astronomiques quelle serait la région la plus propice : le NamibRand ou le Spitzkuppe ?

9. Au KTP dans la région de Kaa Pans, où dormir pour avoir la chance de voir la hyène brune 😜 ?

Concernant le voyage, nous avons tenté de faire au mieux en tenant compte de nos aspirations, de notre budget et du peu de temps sur place.

Tous les vols et nuitées sont déjà bookés.

J1 : arrivée à midi au Cap J2/3/4 : Le Cap et sa région (nous logeons à Houtbay) J5: Vol vers Durban et nuit au Mpila camp J6/7/8:Nuits à Ste Lucia (excursion baleines au programme) J9:nuit à Tembe J10:route vers Kruger et nuit à l'entrée du Kruger J11/12/13:Kruger (nuits à Lower sabie/Satara et Talamati) J14: Départ du Kruger et nuit à Soweto J15: Vol retour à 18H00 (vélo à Soweto le matin)

Il a fallu faire des choix (zapper le Swaziland, l'essentiel de Blyde river ...)

Quelques questions en vrac:

-Pour Tembe, nous n'aurons pas de 4 roues motrices mais nous logeons dans le parc. Est-ce qu'il y a la possibilité au camp de se faire véhiculer jusqu'au Hyde si on le désire ? ou à certaines heures imposées?

-Pour la région du Cap , nous n'aurons que 3,5 jours sur place . La visite de Robben Island est au programme (c'est un incontournable pour deux enfants) et une journée sur la Péninsule. Reste à faire un choix dans les multiples autres activités (nage avec les otaries, Table moutain, Lions Head etc...) Pour certains les jardins de Kirstenbosh apparaissent incontournables.Ils valent le coup en Juillet ?

-Au Kruger, je vais réserver un morning walk : cela vous semble préférable à Lower Sabie ou Satara ?

Hello, I’ve got a little doubt about our arrival in Johannesburg and would love your advice. We’re landing at 2:20 PM with Rwandair from Kigali on Sunday, July 27th. We need to pick up our rental car and head toward the Drakensberg. I’ve booked accommodation about an hour from Johannesburg Airport in Heidelberg. It seemed doable to drive for an hour, but considering customs, baggage claim, picking up the car, potential traffic jams (?), and the early sunset at that time of year, I’m worried about driving at night. What do you think? Should we stick with the plan or book a place closer to the airport and hit the road the next morning? Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Hi there, In two months, I’m heading off for 4 weeks with three backpacker friends to South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini. We’ve got our round-trip flight tickets from France to Johannesburg and plan to drive from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back to Johannesburg in an SUV or 4x4. For other city trips, we’ll use local transport or Uber. That’s the plan for our transportation.

For the car rental, I’d like to know which company to book with. Can anyone give me some tips on renting a vehicle and crossing into Lesotho and Eswatini?

Next, I’ve put together a rough itinerary that seems good to me, but could you share your experiences and maybe point out any mistakes I’ve made?

Hi there, I made my bungalow reservations in Kruger Park through Sanparks. I’ve sent several emails but never gotten a response from them. It’s not possible to reach them via WhatsApp, and calling them costs an arm and a leg 😱. Have you had the same experience with Sanparks? Their website is pretty well done—they boast about giving the best care to questions people ask them, but when it comes to email responses... it’s a ghost town 😕

Bonjour, je prépare un voyage en Afrique du Sud. Atterrissage à Johannesburg, direction Blyde River Canyon, Kruger, Swaziland, Santa Lucia, Lesotho et ensuite direction Cap Town en longeant la côte. J'aurai aimé avoir plus de renseignement sur le temps de route entre Santa Lucia et le Lesotho. J'ai loué une voiture de type ford fiesta mais pas de 4*4. Peut-on faire la route en 1 jour entre Santa Lucia et lesotho (ou je n'ai pas de réservation pour le moment) ou faut il faire une pause entre les deux destinations ?

Faut-il payer la totalité des frais en arrivant, selon le délai de séjour prévu dans le parc?

A priori nous ne prendrons pas la Wild card (...)

Me confirmez-vous que le prix est d'environ 400ZAR par jour et par personne?

Autre question : la sortie de l'aéroport et la route en direction de Dullstrom sont-elles faciles à trouver? Nous ne sommes pas toujours très doués avec notre application GPS...

I’m planning my next trip in September, and after two self-drive trips to Botswana last year, I’d love to explore Kruger. Since I’m used to camping, I’m thinking of renting an equipped van from Kitted Africa (a small Suzuki van—thanks Safari Expert!) to sleep in a tent and occasionally in a hut.

Here’s my provisional itinerary, and I’d love to hear your thoughts if you don’t mind. I’ve got 13 nights to plan in Kruger. The rental company is based in Nelspruit.

Entering from the south: 14-15-16.09: 3 nights at Crocodile Bridge or Lower Sabie 17-18-19.09: 3 nights at Skukuza 20-21.09: 2 nights at Satara 22-23-24.09: 3 nights at Olifants 25-26.09: 2 nights at Tamboti or Talamati

Exiting the park on 27.09 via Orpen Gate, then heading to Blyde River Canyon for a night in a hotel or elsewhere. 28.09: Return to Nelspruit, drop off the van, and stay in a hotel. 29.09 (midday): Airlink flight to Johannesburg, then an evening return flight to GVA.

What do you think? Too many nights here, not enough there?

I’ll be traveling solo, I love driving, and I enjoy settling in the middle of nature to listen, observe, and take photos (Botswana was perfect for that).

Hi there, I’m heading to Kruger Park for 4 days in May 2026. Departing from Paris → Skukuza via JNB on Air France. Here’s what’s worrying me: my flight lands (in theory) at JNB at 8:30 AM (Terminal A), then I’ve got a JNB → Skukuza departure at 10:05 AM (Terminal B). That leaves me with 1 hour and 35 minutes to make the connection and clear customs. I don’t have any checked luggage—just carry-on. I called Air France, and they said it’s doable (in theory) with a minimum connection time of 1 hour 30 minutes (which is why they sold the ticket), but I’ll need to move quickly. From your experience, is this realistic in practice? Can I ask customs officers to let me through as a priority? (I’ve got my flight ticket to show.) Thanks for your insights! Serge

Hi there, First question: We're leaving Kruger Park from Olifants camp to head to BRC. I know the drive is long (about 4 hours, especially since I think the part through the park will be slow due to animals). We're exiting the park via Phalaborwa Gate, but I can't find a map, so it's hard to tell if we'll arrive at the top of the Canyon or via Graskop to then drive up the Panorama Route.

Second question: I booked 1 night at Forever Resort, but if we arrive from the top and then drive down the Panorama Route, I'm not sure that's the best choice.

Third question: Since we're leaving Kruger early in the morning, I think we can plan to explore the area in the afternoon. We'll sleep there, and then we need to be at our lodge in the Balule private reserve by late morning (Imagine Africa) to catch the afternoon safari. I'm worried it might be too short if we want to do a boat trip on the dam! What do you think? Should I add another night? It's still possible since I haven't planned the rest yet, and we have 7 nights left in Cape Town, including Hermanus! Do you think I should cut short the Cape Town stay? If so, I could break the BRC trip into two parts—one night after leaving Kruger before the private safari, and then come back this way (since it's not too far, I think) after the two nights on safari before heading to Cape Town. But how can I organize the visits logically?

I can already hear Michel telling me I'm overcomplicating things!! 😉

Bonjour à tous , Nous devons partir en Afrique du Sud le 8 octobre prochain pour 10 jours , essentiellement au Kruger pour fêter nos 10 ans de mariage et les 60 ans de mon mari . Jusqu’à présent cette échéance me paraissait lointaine et je pensais qu’il n’y aurait plus de problème pour voyager à cette période . Or , même si c’est encore prématuré , je vois de plus en plus approcher le moment où il nous faudra annuler ou reporter notre voyage . Si malheureusement c’etait nécessaire , comme il n’est pas question d’annuler , je sollicite votre avis sur la période la plus favorable pour un éventuel report : Soit avril - mai ou octobre 2021 ? J’ai une préférence pour avril-mai ( moins de monde ? Quelle météo ?) mais ça dépendra des disponibilités des hébergements que nous avions choisis . Nous partons mi février avec nos 2 ados (pas vraiment enchantés à priori, j'espère que cela changera sur place😛)

Nous commençons par le cap 4 nuits, puis remontons en vol interne sur Joburg pour le kruger et Blyde.

nos Camps dans le kruger sont : -Berg en dal le 1er soir, mais l'arrivée risque d'être vers la fin d'aprem vu que notre avion atterrit à Joburg à 11h10. -Lower sabie 1 nuit le lendemain -Puis on va faire un tour sur Blyde 2 nuits et retour sur le Kruger (conseil d’Attila de faire une pause hors du parc notamment pour les ados😛 .....) -satara 2 nuits -Olifants 1 nuit puis retour de bonne heure pour reprendre notre vol qui décolle à 23h30 de joburg.

Ma question vous qui connaissez les rest camps : Que me conseillez vous en plus de nos propres sorties ? En walk ou drive avec les rangers, matin ou soir, et à partir de quel rest camp?

Nous sommes un couple et avons déjà réservé pour septembre 2020 un vol Nice- Johannesbourg et Le Cap-Nice par Qatar Airways (500 €).

J'ai commencé mes réservations (pour le Parc Kruger, plus de places à Skukuza, c'est incroyable ! du coup, j'ai du rajouter des jours à Satara et Lower Sabie mais pas dans les même bungalows ....)

Mon parcours serait :

1 nuit Dullstroom 2 nuits Graskop 2 nuits Satara 3 nuit Lower Sabie 2 nuits Swaziland (Mantega Lodge)

2 nuits PN Hluhluwe : je voudrais réserver 2 nuits au Mpila Camp mais nous n'aurons ni 4X4 ni SUV, juste une voiture compact (pas encore réservé) : pouvons nous quand même accéder au Camp ? et pourrons nous traverser le Parc avec cette voiture ?? (sur leur site, ils disent bien qu'un 4X4 serait préférable)

2 nuits Ste Lucia (si vous avez de bonnes adresses ..)

Vol Durban Le Cap

2 nuits Stellenbosh ou Franschhoek ? 5 nuits Camps Bay

Que pensez vous de mon circuit ?

Nous avons pensé peut être dormir plus longtemps à Ste Lucia et visiter le parc depuis cette destination mais 4 nuits, c'est peut être trop ? ou dormir en dehors du Parc ?

Ce parc vaut il vraiment le coup ? il y a aussi un autre Camp Hilltop, plus facile d'accès mais pas de très bonnes critiques ...

Je me demande s'il faut vraiment réserver un logement à l'avance à cette période ? En effet, j'ai vraiment du mal à prévoir un trajet et visualiser où dormir le soir. Quel est selon vous le meilleur plan entrer par la porte le plus au sud Malelane et remonter à l’intérieur du parc ( pas trop d-idée du temps nécessaire mais surement long?) ou prendre la route ( et laquelle)pour rentrer par la porte PAUL KRUGER? Hello, We’re a group of four seventy-something retirees and we’re planning a 4-week trip to South Africa. We’re seasoned "adventurers" used to multi-week stays (we’ve been to India seven times, Mexico, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Australia, etc.).

For South Africa, we’re thinking of covering most of the trip in a private vehicle and taking flights for inter-state transfers. We’re interested in meeting people, learning about the country’s evolution, exploring major cities, visiting traditional villages, and seeing wildlife.

Could you share your thoughts on this itinerary? We’ll be renting a vehicle to explore both regions. We can easily add 4–5 more days to the trip if needed.

We’re looking at traveling either between April and May 2026 or in October/November 2026.

Hello, I’m taking advantage of the forum reopening to ask this question:

For her 70th birthday, my mom will receive—as a gift—a trip to South Africa at the end of May 2025. We’ll arrive and depart (13 nights later) from JNB on Air France AF990/AF995. We’ll obviously rent a car for certain parts of the trip. I’ve been to the Cape Town area and as far as Agulhas twice, but she’s never been to South Africa before. She might enjoy a day or two of safari, but it’s not a priority for her. I’m well aware that trying to pack in too much is risky, which is why I’m looking for your advice on itineraries, safety, and health (status of the Marburg virus). So far, which combinations of these visits (in no particular order) would be doable and most enjoyable for her at a reasonable pace:

1-day excursion to Pilanesberg Park (+ Hartbeespoort on the way back if possible), self-drive or with a tour guide? 2 nights around the Panorama Route self-driving Garden Route from/to George/PLZ for 5 nights (what are the must-sees for a first-timer with so little time?) Wine region for 2 nights (is it worth doing both the Stellenbosch bus tour and the Franschhoek Wine Tram the next day, or vice versa)—she loves good wine! Cape Town for 2 nights (is it worth stopping at the Cape of Good Hope if—only if—you’ve maybe already been to Agulhas?).

This would give a final itinerary like this:

Day 1: Morning arrival in JNB—rest day/to be defined Day 2: Guided game drive excursion to Pilanesberg Park Day 3: Flight JNB–Port Elizabeth, pick up rental car, drive to Tsitsikamma Day 4–6: Garden Route: activities to be defined Day 7: Transfer to Franschhoek: Wine Tram in the afternoon Day 8: Taxi to Stellenbosch for the Vine Hopper bus tour Day 9–11: Transfer to Cape Town: activities to be defined Day 12: Flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit or Nelspruit Day 13: Visit the Panorama Route Day 14: Flight from Hoedspruit or Nelspruit to JNB, then evening flight back to France

Given the time spent on the Garden Route, what are the must-sees? Same question for the Panorama Route? In general, she prefers beautiful walks with incredible landscapes/views and cultural visits over big cats, but it would be a shame not to see some local wildlife like meerkats, whales (I doubt it in May), or penguins during her stay! Bonjour à tous, Nous sommes en préparation d'un périple de 2 fois 2 mois en 2021 en Afrique Australe avec notre DEF 110. Pour le 1er circuit (env. mars, avril) nous voudrions passer une semaine env dans le KTP sud africain et Botswana.
