Je suis actuellement à KohNgai et il n’y a pratiquement personne, c’est à la fois agréable et inquiétant sans parler de la perte économique pour ceux qui vivent du tourisme. En théorie.... je rejoins Bangkok le 26 mars pour repartir à Paris avec la Qatar mais d’ici là....qui sait ?.?

I’m heading back to Thailand soon, and from what I’ve been reading, it seems some beaches/islands are infested with these dreaded sandflies!

I’ve noted the remedy: rub the bitten area with 90% alcohol, then apply soothing cream.

But prevention is better than cure!

Which areas should I avoid right now?

Are there seasons that are more prone to these itchy invasions than others?

I’ve already stayed in Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Krabi, and Phuket without any issues like this.

I’d love to keep it that way...

Je suis actuellement en train de planifier mon court séjour (14 jours) en Thaïlande. La première partie de mon voyage (Bangkok/ Chiang Mai) est pas mal peaufinée. J'y passerais 9 jours en tout. Il me reste donc 5 jours pour le sud.

J'ai de l'intérêt pour Phuket et Koh Phi Phi. Idéalement, j'aimerais séjourner au 2 endroits, ce qui veux dire que j'aurais 2 nuits à un endroit et 3 nuits à l'autre. La question qui tue est la suivante: Lequel de ces 2 endroits mérite plus de temps (3 nuits)?

En ce qui nous concerne, nous désirons se détendre à la plage, peut-être une sortie en bateau afin de voir certaines plages, etc. Nous ne sommes pas du type hike et cie.

Hi, Does anyone know if it's still advised against traveling to Chanthaburi, Trat, Ko Chang, and Ko Kood? On thailande.gouv, they recommend staying more than 10 km away from the borders with Cambodia. I don’t know if that’s a good idea. But on TripAdvisor, it seems to be discouraged.

Hi there, We're heading to Thailand with our two kids (9 years old) for two weeks next February (2026). We plan to rent a car to stay independent and explore a bit off the beaten path. Still, we'd like to spend 1 or 2 nights on a nice, quiet island—just for some relaxation and especially snorkeling (even though I know it's not the best country for beautiful corals).

I've read dozens of forum pages and travel journals, but I'm still overwhelmed and can't decide where to go for a peaceful paradise-like beach with good snorkeling opportunities. We don’t need comfort—Robinson Crusoe-style camping or hammock nights work perfectly for us. No electricity or signal is totally fine. We just don’t want to pay 1000 € for a family of four to go to the Surin Islands, even if they do look like paradise.

Any suggestions?

Au milieu de tous ces posts concernant le Coronavirus (lol) je pose par ici une question à laquelle j’ai du mal à trouver une réponse c’est assez compliqué voilà je pars dans deux semaines pour 14j et j’ai déjà décidé des étapes de mon voyage : Arrivée et départ de Bangkok et visite de : Sukhothai / chang mai / chang rai / khao sok / koh muk ( oui ça peut faire beaucoup pour 2 semaines mais j’ai l’habitude de voyager en bougeant beaucoup je préfère) Sachant que j’aimerai faire un trajet en train de nuit pour l’expérience :) Après sinon avion bus.. peu importe

Mais le problème c’est que je n’arrive pas à mettre dans l’ordre ces destinations auriez-vous une idée de ce qu’il serait plus pertinent à visiter en premier ou en dernier (et le top si vous avez une idée du temps à consacrer à chaque étape (oui j’abuse lol )) j’aimerais finir par khao sok car on dit souvent qu’il faut garder le meilleur pour la fin :D Par exemple je ne sais pas s’il est judicieux de faire Sukhothai/chang mai / chang rai avant de redescendre dans le sud sans risquer de faire une overdose de temple et pour le coup de ne pas les apprécier à leur juste valeur...

question bonus est-ce que ça vaut le coup de dormir à Sukhothai ?

Our next trip to Thailand is coming up, and we just can't wait! We talk, eat, drink, and dream Thailand 😏

Our itinerary is mostly set, and we’ve found quite a few new things to explore, but I’d still love to hear your recommendations for Bangkok. Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)

This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.

Hi everyone, we’ll be in Thailand from August 2nd to 21st, arriving in Bangkok on the 2nd for a visit. From the 5th to the 8th: Angkor temples. Then, starting on the 9th, we’re planning to head to Chiang Mai, and by the 14th or 15th, we’d like to be on an island until the 19th, when we return to Bangkok. Five days in Chiang Mai seems a bit long to us. What do you recommend between the 9th and 15th, and which island? We’re not big fans of sunbathing—we’d love to snorkel and explore the island. Ideally, I’d have liked to find a house to rent, but every time, I end up with places far from the beach, whereas we’d really like to be able to walk to the beach for strolls. By the way, are there a lot of shells? Can we collect them? It seems that in August, swimming can sometimes be tricky due to tides—is that true? Thanks to all the contributors! 😊

Where can we find accommodation close to a pretty beach that's not too touristy but not isolated either, near a small town or village? We've already been to Surin Beach on Phuket Island. Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

Hi there. I wanted to check and asked Krungsri Bank if they offered a cash advance at the counter to avoid Thai ATM withdrawal fees. They told me yes, but only up to 200 baht. No, I didn’t forget a zero—it’s not even 6 €... That doesn’t get you very far.

Can anyone confirm this info, or are there banks that offer a larger cash advance? Krungsri is the only bank that does currency exchange in the town where I’m currently staying in Thailand.

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bonjour , j ai reçu un mail de l agence Leclerc voyage aujourd’hui pour me dire que mon voyage prévu pour le 18 avril était annulé ! Suite à ça l agence me propose de reporter mon voyage avant le 31 mars 2021 mais Seulement dans des destinations bien précises (Grèce , Tunisie etc...) si aucune de ces destinations me convient es ce que je peux exiger le remboursement intégral de mon voyage ?? Je passe par la Thailande tous les 6 mois et une fois de plus la bath n'en fini pas de monter, j'ai changé hier 31.78 pour 1 euro, il y a 6 mois j'avais 38 baths et un an 42 baths. Ça pénalise le tourisme, en effet la chute du nombre de touriste continu et ça se voit dans les hôtels, dans celui ou je vais habituellement à BKK, Hôtel 4 étoiles, peu de touristes occidentaux mais surtout des Thaïs, j'ai demandé au réceptionniste ce qui se passe et il m'a dit qu'ils subissaient une forte baisse de la demande Europe et US, du coup ils font des prix pour les locaux afin de remplir l’hôtel. La compagnie aérienne nationale est obligé de réduire la voilure, elle supprime son A380 au départ de Paris faute à la baisse de la demande et met un 777 à la place. La Thaï serait aussi au bord du dépôt de bilan et fera des propositions mi novembre comme une baisse drastique des salaires surtout des cadres de la compagnie, elle emploie actuellement 20000 salariés. Les européens se tournent vers des pays moins chères comme le Vietnam, le Cambodge et le Laos... La Birmanie est aussi en baisse après des années d'augmentation du nombre de touristes.

Visite du Temple Blanc, Black house, et surtout, Long Neck village qui m'intéresse particulièrement. J'aimerais savoir si cette agence est fiable. Habituellement, je passe par Expédia pour mes excursions, mais ce n'est pas offert sur leur site. Y a-t-il d'autres activités intéressantes à Chiang Rai en novembre. Merci.

Celà ne va pas dans le sens d'une politique touristique visant à enrayer la diminution du nombre de touristes cette année, en particulier des chinois qui forment le gros du contigent. Et le taux de change pourri actuel n'arrange rien.

Quelques têtes pensantes de la TAT proposent bien un visa gratuit, mais pour les chinois bien sûr !, ou la fermeture des bars et discothèques à 4h du matin au lieu de 1 ou 2h actuellement, mais rien de concret
