Nous sommes 2 et nous voulons acheter une moto pour parcourir le Laos. Nous sommes pour l'instant à Luang Prabang et voulons descendre dans le sud du pays. On ne peut pas (comme en France) louer une moto à un point A et la rendre à un point B, alors on pense en acheter une et le revendre à la fin de notre périple.
Nous voulons savoir si quelqu'un a des bons plans pour acheter à Luang Prabang ou si il est préférable de descendre à Vientiane en bus et d'acheter seulement à la capitale?
Savez-vous aussi comment cela se passe pour l'assurance? Et si il est possible de passer la frontière pour le Cambodge??
Nous nous posons aussi une autre question, les sacs!!! On pense acheter une petite remorque pour pouvoir être à l'aise sur la moto et profiter pleinement.

si tu n as pas de tres bon potes lao ca va etre chaud d acheter une moto.... mais c'est qd mm possible. mon cousin a acheter une second hand l an dernier a LP et est descendu jusqu a la frontiere du cambodge. c est un trip genial !! La meilleur solution je pense serai d acheter une moto neuve ( ca va t eviter les mauvais plans ) il existe des premier prix a environ 400 €(chinoise peu resistante mais tres correcte pour faire 2000 kms et la revendre 300/250 € ds le sud du Laos ( deposer des affichettes ds les guest house de paksé ) .En revanche c est impossible a ma connaissance de traverser la frontiere avec ta moto. Pour l assurance voire avec AGL Laos ca c est pas un pb... voila bonne route a vous

j avais acheté une moto d occas mais par le biais d une copine lao et c etait une moto un peu puissante donc au alentour de 1000 dollars. la meilleur solution je pense et la plus simple serait d acheter une moto neuve premier prix, chinoise et de vous faire assister pour les papiers par un lao. une moto neuve se revend tres facilement et a moins de risque de panne ! je crois que ca doit couter ds les 400 dollars, vous pourriez la revendre 300 a la fin de votre road trip....

Finalement nous avons réussi à trouver deux Honda Wave 100 de second main à Luang Prabang pour un prix très raisonnable.
Nous sommes maintenant arrivés à Pakse, il nous reste 10 jours avant la fin de notre visa.
Je voulais savoir si vous aviez passé la frontière cambodgienne avec votre moto et si vous aviez rencontré des difficultés ?

Nous sommes sur la fin de notre périple à mobylette.
Nous nous séparons donc de deux mobylettes type Honda Wave 100cc + 2 casques + 7 tendeurs pour fixer les bagages + 1 carte du Laos + 1 cadenas pour 400$.
Les mobylettes sont en bonne état, nous avons traversé le Laos sans aucun problème majeur.

J ai fini par trouver une moto, mais ca n a pas ete simple.
j ai d abord achete une honda wave d occasion, propre, mais qui marchait bizarre, vraiment pas comme une honda wave (que je connais bien).
et je me suis apercu que c etait une copie de chine, cad de la daube grave.
la mobylette genre tu rentres chez toi en pedalant quoi. voir pire cest toi qui porte la moto sur ton dos au lieu de l inverse.
je l ai donc revendue et j ai achete une suzuki modele smatch, mais authentique celle-ci.
au moins j ai un moteur solide maintenant, je peux me ballader sans risque de pane.
je suis en train de la faire refaire des pieds a la tete, parce que ici qd vous achetez une occasion rien ne marche dessus, mais rien (a part le moteur): pas de lumiere, pas de stop, pas de frein, pas de compteur, pas de jauge, pas de klaxonne, les cales-pieds qui branlottent quand il y en a, les retros qui s affolent, la clef de contact et du coffre qui accroche tant qu on se demande si on va pas la peter dans son trou a tout momemt ... , enfin bref cest vraiment une honte lol. Mais que fait la police lol ? (qui est pourtant omnipresente).
bref vous voila prevenu, lorsque vous conduisez ici, sachez bien que toutes les motos qui vous entourent ont a peine des freins (a bien noter).
les assurances ne vous embettez pas personne n en a. et meme si vous en prenez une (locale), ca coute rien (15E/30E), mais ca ne couvre quasi rien (300E seulemet) donc ca change rien au probleme. A moins que vous preniez une adresse europeenne, mais la cest cher et complique.
Mais franchement ca me parait inutile. Conduisez juste tres tres prudemmemt/lentement, avec si possible des chaussures (et pas des tongs), et tout se passera bien.
evitez de vous trimballer avec les papiers de la moto ca pourrait donner l occase a des policiers de vous chercher des poux dans la tete.
plus generalement des que vous avez a faire a la police (barrage de controle, etc...) faites juste mine de ne parler que francais (pas anglais, ni laotien, ni thai, ni rien). vous repondez juste en francais, "bonjour, comment ca va. je ne comprends pas l anglais, desole... etc ...
...comme ca la confusion va vite s installer et l agent va vite lacher l affaire, comprenant que vous ne serez pas facile a racketer (puisque vous ne comprenez rien a ce qu il vous demande).
pour ma moto je vais la laisser a vientiane quand je serai parti.
si apres quelqu un veut l acheter ou la louer pas de probleme il me contacte et on s arrange.
une fois tout bien reparee elle me sera revenue dans les 500E, donc je voudrai la vendre dans ces eaux la.
pour une location faudrait compter dans les 3 ou 4E/j (avec caution). cest la moitie du prix qui se pratique ici.

Bonjour! J'ai un scooter qui sera disponible pour vente a pakse vers la fin du mois de mars. C'est un scooter Yincin, 100cc, nous sommes deux dessus avec nos deux sacs fixés à l'arrière et ça roule comme un charme, même dans les routes les plus abruptes du Laos! Après l'achat nous avons changé les freins et fait une mise au point complète, changement d'huile, l'alignement et tout. Nous avons payé 350$ US avec deux casques. En fait elle est dans un meilleur état que quand on l'a acheté! Nous avons tout les papiers, on a eu un contrôle à luang prabang et les policiers n'ont rien dit alors tout est bien légal. Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
