We're planning to trek in Peru and Bolivia and would love to find some local agencies. If you know any, could you share details on prices and, of course, the names of the agencies? Which trek would you recommend? Elocine

Which trek do you recommend?

A trek in the Cordillera Blanca (Carhuaz) is a stunning region for treks: Huascarán National Park (kind of the Chamonix of Peru). I’ve only done day hikes there without an agency or guide (this was a while ago). My best memory: Laguna 513 and Laguna Cochca, starting from Shonquilpampa near Hualcán/Carhuaz—but there are plenty of multi-day treks to do. There are quite a few agencies in Carhuaz.

Hi there,

In almost every city where there are trekking circuits (Huaraz, Cusco, Arequipa, La Paz, etc.), you'll find local agencies offering private departures or group departures for the most commercial circuits.

Honestly, these agencies sell very commercial and crowded circuits, and most are more opportunistic than passionate about trekking or mountains!

For more qualitative itineraries, I recommend planning ahead and going through a specialized French-speaking agency, like Panacca or Yunka in Peru, or Thaki in Bolivia.

Cheers,

Thomas
