Hi everyone, I’m heading to Cambodia at the end of the year. I’ll be coming back via Thailand. I’d love to know if there’s a boat from Cambodia to Koh Kut Island. If you’ve done this trip, thanks in advance for shedding some light on it!

hi no direct boat since there’s no immigration office on Koh Kood

so Koh Kong for Cambodia exit formalities then boat to Had Lek (entry point) for Thailand formalities, then road to Trat with a turn-off to Laem Sok pier where the few direct boats to Koh Kood leave from

watch the season—boat schedules for Koh Kood vary (and in high season, booking is *highly* recommended)

Thanks Trolley, I think we won’t be going to Koh Kut after all. You must know Cambodia well—is there an island where we could stay for a few days at the end of our 3 weeks?

hi 3 weeks in Cambodia? and an island after? an island in Cambodia?

well, not really—there aren’t any real islands or even beaches in Cambodia

just so you know, Koh Kood, Koh Chang, and that whole coast are only accessible in winter, from November to March and avoid the Christmas/New Year’s period, plus weekends if you can otherwise, Koh Kood is absolutely gorgeous in winter for 3-4 days

but is your international return flight ticket from Bangkok?

And if you're at the end of your Cambodia trip around Angkor, it's super easy to stop by Battambang for 1 night/1 day (circus school). Then, head to the Pailin land border just above Battambang—direct route to Poutrat. Leave early from Battambang (50 km by road) to be there when the border opens. You can catch the boat to Koh Kood (book Laemsok Ferry - speedboat and Laesok Princess).

Actually, we're leaving in mid-November and coming back on December 8th. We're heading back via Bangkok. We already know Koh Kut—we went there last year. I thought there were direct boats from Khrong Koh Kong. So now I'm not sure how to organize this trip, since we're starting in Siem Reap. From Siem Reap, I was thinking of taking the boat to Battambang and then heading down to Kep, Kampot, etc... Also going to Phnom Penh. I'll look into flight tickets from Phnom Penh to Bangkok. For the outbound trip, I found a flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap for 45 € with Air Asia. What do you think?

Hi,

There are low-cost flights from Bangkok to Phnom Penh with AirAsia and plenty of others (standard ones too), and Cambodia Angkor Airways flies from Bangkok to Sihanoukville and Bangkok to Angkor as well.

An idea: Start in Phnom Penh (Bangkok to PNH), then head to the Sihanoukville-Kampot-Bokor coast, then take the road to Angkor—maybe detour via Kratie (and the Mekong boat) then Preah Vihear before Angkor (or fly from Sihanoukville to Angkor with Cambodia Angkor Airways). Next, cross the lake to Battambang (circus and bamboo train),

then take the road to the border—Koh Kood.

Hi Bus, Thanks for your reply, I’ll look into flight tickets from Phnom Penh. Thanks for all the info. We really like temples, of course—we’re staying 3 days in Siem Reap, it should be gorgeous. After that, though, we’re traveling a bit more like backpackers. When we arrive somewhere, we rent a motorbike and head out of the cities. We love connecting with locals. In Thailand, we’ve always been welcomed warmly, even with the language barrier. We’re mostly after the real life of the country. We’ve had amazing moments in Thailand, especially around Chiang Mai, and last year in the Northeast and on Koh Kut—we explored that island everywhere we could go. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Marie-Christine.

Updating the discussion with boat schedules—yes, it’s possible in 2025. I might actually try a Koh Kood–Koh Rong trip myself, but I don’t have a visa, so I’m not sure if I can do it when landing on the Cambodian island after getting off the boat. That part’s still unclear.
