J'ai RDV la semaine prochaine à l'ambassade à Paris pour demander un visa B2 de 6 mois pour les USA.
Projet
Mon projet consiste à traverser les 3 Amériques entre l'Alaska et l'Argentine en au moins 1 an😎. Dans ce cadre, je souhaite passer 1 mois en Alaska, 2 mois au Canada et 2 mois aux USA. Pour avoir de la marge et parce que le passage au Canada ne remet pas le compteur à zéro, je demande 6 mois.
Problématique
Pour obtenir ce type de visa, il est demandé de prouver que l'on ne souhaite pas rester clandestinement aux USA après l'échéance du visa. Comment ?😐
Difficultés
- Je n'ai pas de billet retour.
- J'ai fini mes études en Novembre (Master). Je n'ai donc pas d'inscription dans un établissement.
- J'ai signé volontairement un CDD qui se termine en mars. Je n'aurai pas de travail à mon retour.
- Je n'ai pas de biens immobiliers. Le seul bien à mon nom est mon fourgon que j'ai galéré à avoir et que j'ai aménagé.
- Je n'ai pas d'enfants et je ne suis pas marié.
- J'ai un joli tampon sur mon passeport du Maroc où je suis allé en 2010.
Atouts
- J'aurai un compte en banque qui présentera les garanties financières de ma subsistance sur le territoire américain (début de mon voyage).
Questions
- Mon dossier est-il recevable ?
- Dois-je communiquer sur mon projet sur sa globalité pour les convaincre ?
- Je suis passionné par la marche qui est le thème de base de tous mes voyages. Dois-je argumenter sur ce point pour justifier mon envie d'aller en Amérique Latine par exemple ?
J'aimerais votre avis pour ceux qui sont passés entre les mains de l'ambassade. Pour les personnes qui se sont vues refuser leur demande de visa, quel était le motif ?

Votre projet est super et il ressemble (en plus long) à celui que j'ai réalisé il y a un an.
Pour ce qui est de l'essentiel à savoir l'entretien à l'ambassade pour l'obtention du B2, je peux vous raconter comment cela c'est passé pour mon mari et moi.
Déjà avant d'entrer à l'intérieur de l'ambassade des agents vérifient surtout que tu aies le bon montant sur le mandat-compte (comme les chiffres c'est pas trop mon truc, il manquait quelques euros et on a dû aller à la Poste la plus proche compléter le mandat).
Après on se fait fouiller, les agents sont sympas (pour peu que tu le soies avec eux), tu prends un ticket, tu attends. Premier entretien avec un agent de l'ambassade. Ils a vérifé nos noms, prénoms, prise d'empreintes de TOUS les doigts. Agent sympa parlant un très bon français et il a demandé quel était notre projet pour vouloir ce visa, on lui a expliqué en gros ce que l'on comptait faire aux US. Là, les questions n'étaient pas très poussées, ça ressemblait plutôt à une conversation banale.
Deuxième ticket, re-attente et passage avec un deuxième agent de l'ambassade. Il nous a demandé quel était notre projet aux US,
si j'avais un emploi (oui),
depuis quand mon mari et moi étions mariés (on passe les entretiens ensemble),
si mon mari travaillait, (oui),
pour quelle entreprise?(la sienne)?
En quoi consiste l'entreprise et comment comptait-il s'en occuper s'il partait 4 mois aux US?
L'entreprise gagne t-elle de l'argent? Quel est le salaire de monsieur?
Et on nous a dit quelques minutes après que le visa nous était accordé YES!
J'ai détaillé les questions parce que nous même avant de "monter" (on est du sud ouest) à l'ambassade, on ne savait pas du tout à quoi s'attendre.
En gros le conseil c'est d'avoir un projet touristique bien précis et pas trop dire "on verra une fois sur place", d'avoir une source de revenus et de prouver qu'on a des attaches en France (on a un bien immobilier et l'entreprise est familiale).
Après il s'agit de notre expérience, c'est différent à chaque fois j'imagine.
Si je peux vous être utile à autre chose, n'hésitez pas.
J'étais à l'ambassade ce matin et je ne suis pas très serein.
La nana était souriante et très agréable. Elle m'a posé des questions assez générales comme tu le dis sur mon travail, ce que je veux faire, combien d'argent j'avais à disposition pour mon projet sans me demander aucun justificatif ! Moi qui avais passé x heures à constituer mon dossier....😕 J'aurais mieux d'aller prendre l'air...
Je vous retranscris la fin de l'entretien qui n'a duré que 5 min à tout péter (en anglais) :
- Combien d'argent avez-vous pour votre voyage ?
- Environ... (Je commence à ouvrir mon classeur...)
- Non dites moi juste combien vous avez, pas besoin de papier.
- Environ 15000€.
- Pour un an ?

- (Le visage fermé en me coupant la parole...) OK, nous vous enverrons votre visa et votre passeport d'ici 3 jours.
- OK. C'est tout ?
- Oui c'est tout.
- Merci madame et bonne journée.
Bien qu'elle m'ait dit qu'elle m'enverrait mon visa, le fait qu'elle ait tiqué sur mon budget, qu'elle ait ensuite coupé court la discussion et que son visage s'est fermé brutalement me font dire que je suis recalé... Bref, je ne suis pas confiant du tout.😐

De toutes façons, quoi qu'il en soit, se faire un sang d'encre ne changera rien à l'affaire. 😉
J'aurais tendance à dire que si elle a dit : "Vous recevrez votre visa", tu recevras ton visa. Personnellement, je ne demandais pas du tout le même visa, mais on ne m'a rien demandé comme papier justificatifs, et l'entretien a dû durer en tout et pour tout 5 minutes.
Et beaucoup d'autres personnes ont eu la même expérience pour différents visa. 🙂 Ca devrait être bon !

15 000 euros pour 1 mois aux États Unis c'est pas le Pérou (!) mais faisable, c'est pourquoi elle a tiqué. Mais ton visa à été accordé tu peux préparer ton voyage .

Je pense qu'elle a dû se dire que c'était peu pour un voyage d'un an mais que, de toute manière, je commence par les USA et que donc je n'aurai pas de problème de budget à ce moment là.

Passeport et visa reçu ce matin... Je m'amuse à vous le raconter sous forme d'un petit récit écrit en 5 min...
"Je retrouve la lettre chronopost que je leur avais laissée. Je l'ouvre, je tâte le passeport mais il n'y a pas de papier. Aïe ! N'étant pas confiant, je pense que je suis recalé car je m'attends à avoir un papier. Pourquoi ? Je ne sais pas, par habitude sans doute. Et puis non, il m'aurait au moins mis une lettre pour me dire que je suis recalé.
Je me saisis du passeport et je vois qu'ils ont agrafé mon ticket sur la couverture du passeport. Non mais sérieux, la prochaine fois qu'ils s'achèteront une chemise à 88€, je leur agraferai un papier dessus pour voir leur tête !😉
Je l'ouvre et je vois un papier collé sur une page avec ma tronche et marqué visa B2.. Yes j'ai mon visa ! Papa maman les copains, je vais en Alaska !!
Après l'euphorie, je regarde les dates et là je vois :

Aaaaaah mais c'est quoi ce truc ??? 😮 Panique à l'idée de me retaper la paperasse. Non pas panique. C'est vrai quoi j'ai demandé 6 mois et il me donne 10 ans, je ne vais pas gueuler non plus !! Par contre, qu'est-ce qu'il se passera s'ils s'en rendent compte ? Si c'est effectivement une erreur, qu'est-ce que cela implique pour moi ?
Je pars au boulot en me disant que je regarderai ça ce soir. Et puis non je veux savoir maintenant. Un clic à gauche, un clic à droite et je lis quelques discussions. Je comprends que c'est normal et qu'il s'agit d'une période durant laquelle je peux entrer aux USA si je reste moins de 6 mois par an ou un truc du genre. Je suis rassuré. Je ne me suis jamais autant pris la tête, même pour un entretien d'embauche. L'envie d'aller en Alaska est trop forte, je ne conçois pas de passer à côté. Je vais finalement y aller."

C'est vrai ça ? Un B2 c'est 6 mois par an pendant 10 ans ? Ou bien c'est 6 mois au total, fractionnés ou pas, sur une période totale de 10 ans ?
c'est max 6 mois par séjour pendant 10 ans, oui. Mais ça n'a rien d'extraordinaire, il faut quand même prouver le séjour temporaire et les moyens financiers à chaque passage à l'immigration.
Les Canadiens ont automatiquement 6 mois à chaque voyage et ce, sans visa!

- Combien dure tout le processus, c-à-d l'attente le contrôle sécurité et les entretiens, car je veux savoir si je dois prendre une demi journée ou pas ?
Personnellement, j'avais obtenu le premier rendez-vous du matin (7h ou 7h30, je ne sais plus). Je suis arrivée une demi-heure en avance, et j'étais la deuxième arrivée. Du coup, dès que l'ambassade a ouvert, tout a été très rapide : peut-être 5-10 minutes de passage à la sécurité, 10 minutes d'attente et 5 minutes d'entretien. Le tout n'a pas duré une demi-heure.
En revanche, j'ai remarqué que rapidement, une trentaine de personne est arrivée après moi à l'ambassade. Du coup, je pense que ça revient au même : soit tu arrives en avance et tu attends dehors, soit tu arrives à l'heure et tu attends à l'intérieur.
Ce que je ne sais pas, c'est si on a tous rendez-vous la même demi-heure (ex : entre 7h et 7h30), ou bien si chaque rendez-vous est individuel (ex : j'ai rendez-vous à 7h, quelqu'un d'autre à 7h15, etc.).
Pour répondre à ta question : ça dépend de l'heure de ton rendez-vous. Si c'est le premier rendez-vous du matin, franchement, ce n'est pas la peine de prendre un congé. Sinon, je ne sais pas.

J'avais RDV à 7h, j'ai fais un peu la queue mais à 8h j'étais sorti.
A mon avis, plus le RDV est tôt moins il y a de retard.
7h à Paris, pour un bordelais comme moi, ça fait 1 journée de CP + le coût du voyage !😉

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I’ll explain my situation.
Unfortunately, I lost my passport, and I only realized it two weeks before my departure for a humanitarian mission in Libya. I’m a nurse, and this mission really means a lot to me.
First, I applied for an emergency passport, but it was denied by the Val-d'Oise prefecture on the grounds that a planned humanitarian mission wasn’t considered an urgent reason.
So, I submitted a biometric passport application on July 20th. Since then, the tracking has been stuck, and the town hall can’t (or won’t) give me any clear information. Every time I call, I get a different story. The last update I received was that the passport had been produced since July 23rd with a status of "about to be shipped," but nothing since then.
I’ve managed to push my departure back to next Tuesday at the latest, but I’m starting to really panic.
Have any of you submitted an application around July 20th, especially in Val-d'Oise (95)? How long did you wait between the passport being produced and it being available at the town hall? Is it normal for this step to take this long?
This mission means so much to me. I had everything organized, and I’m also supposed to attend a friend’s wedding right after near the border.

I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I’ve tried my hotel, the Lotte Hotel (which is well-known in Seoul), the airport—basically, I’ve entered at least 20 addresses, all rejected....

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?

We need to apply for a B2 visa because we visited Iran in 2018. It currently costs $185, but they’re planning an additional $250 fee per person for the same visa—it’s been approved but not yet implemented. Does anyone know when this fee will take effect?

I’ve read that China may ask for proof of exit within 30 days (flight ticket or other reservation). Since we’d be leaving by land, I’m wondering how this works in practice.

My wife and I are heading to the US.
On her ticket, it only has her maiden name (e.g., Martine DUPOND).
On her passport, it’s written as Martine DUPOND épouse AVRY.
No issues for travel, I hope I did the right thing with the ticket?
Then for the ESTA, is just Martine DUPOND enough, or do I need to include the "épouse AVRY" part like on the passport?

I saw on the French Embassy in Peru’s website and the Peruvian Consulate in Paris’s site that the rule is to have a passport valid for 6 months *after the arrival date* (not the return date).
I arrive in Peru on August 13, 2019 (for about twelve days), and my passport is valid until February 16, 2020.
That’s 6 months and 3 days after my arrival date in Peru. In my opinion, I’m good to go.
