Flight ticket reservation confirmation issue: what to do?

Hi there,

I’m starting this thread to ask for your advice on a tricky situation I recently ran into. Maybe you’ve been through something similar?

After booking my tickets for this summer, I realized I never received an email, payment confirmation, or reservation number (well, the number did appear on the page after payment, but I didn’t write it down, assuming I’d get it in the confirmation email that usually arrives right after). Even though I was charged, I have no other proof of purchase since I don’t have anything to back it up...

At the time, I wasn’t too worried—email delays had happened to me before. Worst case, I’d get it an hour later.

Except after a full day, I still hadn’t received anything, and the reservation still doesn’t show up in my personal account on the airline’s website.

What should I do?

I contacted support via message: still no reply (and they guarantee a response within two hours). I called them, but no one picked up (and on top of that, I was charged 7.5 € for 15 minutes on hold). Now I’m starting to lose my patience...

Has this ever happened to you?

Thanks in advance,

hi there, without a reservation number it seems complicated. When booking on a website, you should always take a screenshot of the transaction and also note down the reservation number—it’s really necessary. But yes, not getting any replies to the emails you sent is a real problem.

Good evening. If you paid by card with the bank transaction, you can make a claim. What’s more, payments with certain bank cards are covered by insurance. So all in all, I wouldn’t worry too much. Is your departure date still far off?

hi, Which site did you book your tickets on? The airline’s own site or a "virtual agency"? When’s the trip planned for?

Hi there,

Have you contacted the airline in question? This happened to me once. I’d bought tickets to Chile via Kayak, I think. The amount was debited from my account, but I never received a confirmation or the e-tickets. I emailed the airline, and they sent me the tickets by email. So, try contacting the airline first.

Check your spam folder. If I may ask, which airline did you book with? They definitely have a website where you can verify that your reservation was properly recorded. You’ve gotta be careful with scams and only use airlines that are well-established. Sometimes we prioritize cheaper providers, but that’s not always the best solution. If you don’t have a booking reference, it might be a hassle to track it down, but if the company is reliable, you should be able to find it by providing your name. As for getting a refund, you can contact UFC-Que Choisir—they’ll help you with the process for a membership fee, but they’re professionals who know the laws inside out.

Good evening everyone,

A big thank you for all your sensible replies!

The issue’s been resolved—I called the airline, Transavia, where I’d bought the tickets directly (I didn’t go through a third party), and they were able to give me the booking reference number. They’ve been having this problem for about ten days now, so I’m not the only one.

What I regret is not realizing there was a free number for people who’d already made a booking. Like an idiot, I called the premium-rate line… Anyway, I would’ve wasted 7 € for no one to pick up.

Little tip that might help everyone: when you’ve been charged, the booking reference number for your flight ticket sometimes appears in the payment description when you check your bank’s app (apparently, this doesn’t work with all banks).

All's well that ends well 😛 Anyway, good thing I bought directly from the airline's website

I second that... After booking a Transavia flight a few days ago, I was surprised not to receive the usual email confirmation a few moments later. Since then, radio silence... Without trying to figure out why, I retrieved my booking via the airline's website using the PNR code I had saved when I made the reservation. At least two of us are in the same boat...

I could’ve saved myself a lot of hassle if I’d had the presence of mind to jot down the booking reference number—it was clearly displayed at payment, after all.

I just assumed I’d get it in the email that’s supposed to follow right after… an email I still haven’t received, by the way.

Oh well, at least I’ll be vaccinated for next time!

Good evening, We’re a group of three... I just ran into the same problem with the same airline. I also kept a screenshot of the payment notification that appeared in the window. I also contacted the dedicated number. Still, I’m skeptical about the reason they gave me—"technical issue"... and I came across your discussion. They’ve had the same technical issue since May? Hmm...

How did things turn out for you two afterward? Did you receive a booking confirmation later? Did you get an email for online check-in 30 hours before the flight? And what about the return trip? I’m heading to Morocco, and I know check-in is only done at the counter at the airport... without a booking confirmation???

I’m wary because I had major issues with this airline the last time I flew with them, in 2023: 2,000 passengers from the airline were left stranded in the same evening at Orly, with appalling methods—a total mess and widespread outrage. The idea was clearly to blame the customer (against their will) to avoid future refunds. It’s the only time I’ve had problems with this airline, which I’ve used many times without any issues (and even often praised). I’d like it to stay that way!

Hi there,

Not receiving the confirmation email can happen for a bunch of obscure reasons—sometimes it's the seller, other times it's due to your email setup or the type of email address you used. It’s pretty random and happens with tons of airlines. If you noted down the PNR, you can just check everything on the airline’s website. It’s straightforward, and there’s no need to assume it’s some kind of conspiracy.

Thanks Michel for your comment, but that doesn’t answer my question: how do I handle the return trip without a booking confirmation at check-in?

Hi, To answer your question: It was a round-trip flight from Paris to Montpellier, booked directly on the Transavia website. After my booking/payment, I never received any confirmation or message from the airline—neither for the outbound nor the return flight, no matter what. This didn’t worry me too much since I had the PNR code, which allowed me to access my eTickets for both the outbound and return flights, including the seats I’d reserved.

Same as the outbound trip, except that you’ll also have retrieved the PNR and thus checked in online. I don’t understand your issue.

Thanks, Gilmau, for your feedback. Michel, in Morocco, it's not possible to check in online (at least, that was the case until 2023). You have to do it at the counter at the airport, presenting your booking confirmation (giving the reservation number orally isn’t enough, at least not always, depending on the staff’s mood...).

But the problem is resolved since I received the confirmation this morning.

Thanks again! Murielle

For online check-in, you need to distinguish between the check-in itself and the issuance of the boarding pass. In many countries, you can check in online but still have to go to the counter to get your boarding pass. I don’t know about Morocco, but even if an overly zealous agent demanded written proof, there shouldn’t have been an issue—since you’d already retrieved the PNR on the outbound flight, it was easy to access your reservation and resend a copy of your itinerary.
