Distance et temps de route selon itinéraires Google Map (arrondis).
1. "visite" de Vegas (NV), du strip et de l agence locale HD
2. De Vegas tirer au sud pour rejoindre la 66, halte touristique du village d Oatman (AZ), puis Hackberry (AZ) et son fameux General Store et finalement Seligman (AZ), Spirit Route 66 ! (230 miles / 4h40)
3. De Seligman prendre la I40 et rouler jusqu à Flagstaff (AZ). De là effectuer la boucle Flagstaff - Gd Canyon Village - Flagstaff par les US180 / AZ64 / US89 (260 miles / 4h45)
Une soirée au Museum Club à Flagstaff s impose.
4. De Flagstaff prendre la I40 sur 113 miles, sortie 311 et descendre sud par Petrified Forest NP puis la US180/191 jusqu'à Alpine (AZ) et Apache National Forest (240 miles / 4h30)
5. De Alpine rouler à l est par Gila National Forest et Cibola National Forest puis US380 pour rejoindre Roswell (NM). Petit tour au musée international de l UFOlogie.
6. De Roswell rouler au sud, petite étape jusqu'à Carlsbad Caverns NP (NM) pour visiter les grottes et voir le fameux envol de centaines de millier de chauve-souris qui sortent des cavernes au crépuscule (105 miles / 2h00)
7. De Carlsbad direction sud-ouest pour rejoindre Fort Davis (TX), halte touristique, puis sud jusqu'à Marfa (TX). Nuit au El Cosmico dans un teepee ou fameuse caravane en alu...
8. De Marfa effectuer la boucle de Big Bend NP jusqu'à Marathon (TX) (200 miles / 3h45)
9. Grande étape pour rejoindre San Antonio (TX) plein est par la US90 avec arrêt à Langtry (TX) pour voir la loi à l ouest du Pecos et le juge Roy Bean (330 miles / 5h45)
10. Journée repos à San Antonio. Le River walk, Fort Alamo et si les motos démangent pourquoi pas détour à Luckenbach (TX) et / ou Fredericksburg (TX) avec sa Hauptstrasse...
11. Sortie de San Antonio par la I10 puis rejoindre la côte du Golf du Mexique par la TX111. Suivre la côte autant que possible jusqu'à Galveston (TX). Activités selon le temps : plage ou Moody Park (serres tropicales) puis souper sur la 14th street (270 miles / 5h10)
12. De Galveston première traversée en ferry pour rejoindre Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge puis quitter la côte pour contourner McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge et rejoindre Creole (LA) pour la pause. Puis longer le golf pour remonter finalement sur Abbeville (LA) (220 miles / 5h10)
13. Abbeville - La Nouvelle Orléans (LA) par la US90. Soir de fête sur Bourbon Street! (150 miles / 2h40)
14. Jour de repos à La Nouvelle Orléans, visite du quartier français, Decatur Street et ce qu on a pu manquer de nuit à Bourbon Street...
15. Sortir de La Nouvelle Orléans par la US90, entrée au Mississippi, puis l Alabama, suivre la côte et petite halte à Bayou La Batre (AL) pour la photo (le film Forrest Gump). Ensuite prendre le pont pour Dauphin Island, nuit sur place ou de l autre côté de la baye à Fort Morgan (AL) selon horaire du ferry (2e traversée en ferry) (160 miles / 3h55)
16. Suivre la côte jusqu'à Mexico Beach (FL), manger un panier de crevettes frites au Toucan (merci Laurent 😛) et longer le golf jusqu'à Apalachicola (FL) (230 miles / 5h35)
17. De Apalachicola rouler le long de la côte direction Crystal River (FL). Visite du Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, sa rivière transparente et la possibilité de nager avec des lamantins (220 miles / 3h50)
18. Crystal River - Fort Myers (FL), station balnéaire, de quoi faire la fête et la plage (200 miles / 4h40)
19. Descendre le plus au sud pour rejoindre la FL90, Tamiami Trail afin de traverser la pointe dans les Everglades et rejoindre Miami Beach (FL) (150 miles / 3h20)
20. Jour de repos à Miami
21. Jour de réserve en cas de problème. Autrement peut-être Key West, la route vaut la peine!

Pour être parti plusieurs fois aux US , je n'ai jamais trouvé une agence qui me loue la moto moins cher que ER .
Tu devrais essayer d'obtenir le devis de la location détaillé avec taxes et options car je suis très surpris .....
Le coupon de réduction 20 % se termine en effet le 30 juin , je crois .
Il te reste la réduction de 12 % à demander en adhérant à un automobile club en Suisse, correspondant de l' AAA .
Pour ton road book , sur les parties que je connais je te recommande si tu peux le placer :
après la route 66 quand tu rejoins l'autoroute, descendre sur Jerome puis Sedona qui est un incontournable et surtout la route qui remonte de Sedona sur Flagstaff .
Ensuite en Louisiane, essayes de remonter sur Lafayette puis redescendre vers le sud et rejoindre NO .

Quand à la loc dans les 2 cas c est eagle rider. Mais en 1 c est mon agence de voyage qui réserve alors qu en 2 c est par internet.
Et même en enlevant les 12% rabais du club auto qui sont effectifs uniquement sur les 2900$ de la loc donc une économie de max 300 chf le site reste plus cher que l agence de env 600 chf...
J attends encore 1 réponse de bikethebest en Allemagne pour comparer... affaire à suivre!

J'en ai l'experience en ce moment ! un voyage aux states pour mars , fait par une grande agence à Paris et de ce que je connais pour avoir fait moi même 2 raodtrips

L agence me fourni toutes les assurances nécessaires avec le eagle rider all inclusive qui contient le Evip, les miles illimités.
Et en plus elle me couvre avec l européenne assurance voyages SA pour la RC jusqu à 5mio (mieux que ILS de chez ER qui fait -> 1mio max) et l exclusion de franchise en cas de problème ( je dois payer la franchise sur place mais l assurance me la rembourse au retour )
Le drop off me coûte 795$ dans les 2 cas.

Hello, je suis passé par Apalachicola l'an dernier lors d'un roadtrip. J'ai logé au Rancho inn, premier motel en arrivant de l'ouest. Tarif très correct, accueil sympa, chambres aussi. Plusieurs beaux hotels au coeur de la ville mais bien plus chers il me semble.
2008 : de Montréal aux Keys. 2009 : le Québec par le route 138 jusqu'à Natashquan, et la Gaspésie. 2010 : l'Islande par la route 1. 2011 : le Southwest américain. 2012 : de Seattle à Miami par la route 2013 : le Sud des Etats-Unis

J'aurai du mal à te répondre, on est arrivés assez tard de Panama City, genre 22 heures. Et le lendemain, on filait à
Sarasota. Mais, même en plein d'un mois de juillet, c'était très tranquille (tout le contraire de Panama City). Quand tu repartiras, tu passes un grand pont, la vue est assez jolie.

je viens de consulter le catalogue dont tu nous donnes la référence .
Ok pour le prix en avril , mais en mai c'est déjà plus cher : 77 CHF au lieu de 62 car ils appliquent une saisonnalité au tarif .
Ensuite pour avoir le forfait tout compris (miles illimités, assurances complétes equivalentes SLI 1mio et EVIP ) il faut ajouter 79 CHF par jour . le tarif réel est donc de 156 CHF / jour . Quand tu ajoutes le drop off à payer sur place en USD plus les taxes sur le drop off ,
Résultat, nous arrivons à peu prés au même tarif qu'ER . en plus ou en moins, je ne sais pas car je n'ai pas fait le calcul exact .
Essayes de comparer en comptant tout et tiens nous au courant .....

Nouveau sur le forum ton post m'interpelle car je souhaiterais faire un trip similaire en partant de San Fransisco et arrivée miami ou NY... la feuille de route est pas encore définie, pour 1 mois entre avril/mai/juin 2014.
Il faut que je fouille partout pour voir, mais si vous avez déjà des conseils concernant les motels sympa avec possibilité de mettre la moto à l'abri, les resto rapide ou a voir que ce soit le midi ou le soir pour les soirées à thèmes...

je n ai pas grand chose pour t aider actuellement...
Sur SF j ai passé une nuit au Best Western Americania sur Market St et la 7e (je crois) mais je ne conseille pas vraiment... La situation n est pas top, relativement chèrot (269 $ pour une chambre 2 lits).
A voir ou a faire : le Pier 39 évidemment, le Route US 66 shop, le Castagnola's pour manger et év Alcatraz si t as le temps (à réserver d avance !)
Si tu décides de monter sur NY je connais pas trop.
Si tu choisis Miami, il faudra attendre fin octobre 2013 pour mon carnet de voyage... Ou te délecter du post de Genevois ( d'une côte à l autre en harley )
Pour mon choix définitif pour la loc des motos mon prochain message en traite d ici quelques minutes.
Finalement même si les recherches sont parfois longues et laborieuses elles font aussi partie du voyage et te permettent d en rêver déjà... 😛

En fait, j'y suis en ce moment aux USA, dans la région de Washington DC pour des raisons pro. Je prévois une sortie sur un WE pour aller rider sur la Skyline Drive au nord-ouest de DC, si jamais quelqu'un connaît ?
On est une douzaine et on va louer les bécanes chez ER à Church Falls, juste à côté de DC. Enfin, si la météo le permet, parce que là, c'est plutôt frisquet.

New to the forum, but not so new to Asia 😄
I’m Nico, from Switzerland, currently based in Bangkok. I love taking my motorcycle out to get lost in the mountains and small villages of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and more. I’ve been roaming around this area for a good fifteen years now, racking up quite a few kilometers—especially in northern Vietnam.
This time, I finally decided to tackle the Mae Hong Son Loop, clockwise. I’d been to Pai several times before, but oddly enough, I’d never done the full loop.
So, I’ll try to give you a little recap here, day by day, with the roads, stops, places worth checking out… and those that didn’t quite blow my mind 😅
I also filmed the trip, so I’ll post the corresponding video at the end of each day if that’s okay. If it’s not allowed here, just let me know, and I’ll remove them without any issue.
DAY 1 — Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon → Mae Chaem → Khun Yuam
I left Chiang Mai after renting a Honda ADV 160 from Pop Motorbike. Not exactly an Africa Twin, but for what I had planned, it was more than enough.
Quick hotel note: I stayed at the Lanna Thaphae Hotel before leaving. Around 30 € per night, super well-located, and probably one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. A crucial detail for any motorcycle road trip, obviously.
The plan for the day was pretty straightforward:
Head toward Doi Inthanon… and see what happens.
Flawless Swiss organization.
First stop along the way at Wachirathan Waterfall. A really nice waterfall, very easy to access, but don’t expect to channel your inner Indiana Jones—it’s crowded, touristy, and swimming isn’t allowed. Still, it’s a pretty stop along the way.
Next, up to Doi Inthanon.
The road climbs steeply, and my little 160cc started to realize that carrying my 80 kg to Thailand’s highest point probably wasn’t part of its youthful dreams. I was maxing out at 34 km/h in some spots.
But it made it. Good little bike.
The summit is nice—the forest is beautiful, and it’s cool—but I have to admit, it didn’t completely wow me. Glad I went, but not necessarily the highlight of the day for me.
Because then comes Route 1192.
And that’s *much* more my thing: small mountain roads, beautiful scenery, hardly any traffic… the kind of road where I usually start taking way too many unnecessary detours just because a little side road “looks fun.”
Stopped in Mae Chaem for a bite to eat, then headed to Khun Yuam to finish the day.
A little over 200 km in total.
Khun Yuam is… quiet.
*Very* quiet. 😅
A cute little market, a couple of cafés/restaurants, and zero chance of ending up in a club until 4 AM. But after a day on the bike, it was perfect.
Stayed at the Mit Khun Yuam Hotel, around 20 € for a small but very decent room.
All in all, a solid first day and a pretty relaxed start to the loop. Part of this leg is mostly about getting out of Chiang Mai and really diving into the mountains, in my opinion.
Because for me, the really interesting stuff starts over the next two days…
And a few slightly questionable route decisions will also make an appearance 😅

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m planning a sidecar trip to South America for 4 or 5 months at the end of this year.
I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Looking for travel companions to ride from France to Senegal by motorcycle.
I’m Paul, 37, and I’ve already done a bit of riding in Morocco.
For now, I’m solo, riding a 1998 SUZUKI DR 650 with some basic gear to keep things smooth. I’ll have a tent so we can do a few nights under the stars.

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?
