Hi everyone!

I’m heading to Croatia for the second time (first time was 5 days in Dubrovnik), but this time I’ll be seeing more of the country since I’m renting a car to drive between Dubrovnik and Split. I’ve got 2 days and 2 nights for the trip, and I was wondering which stops I could make. I’m looking for quiet, typical villages or spots where I can swim peacefully—just a nice break between the two touristy cities. 😊

Thanks in advance for your help!

There are plenty of options. You didn’t mention the exact time of year, but the Makarska "riviera" (Brela, Podgora, Makarska, etc.) is nice, though it gets pretty crowded in the summer. We really loved the Pelješac peninsula starting from Trstenik and the island of Korčula (the village of Lumbarda and the stunning Pupnatska Luka beach). Omiš is worth a stop (though in summer, you might end up stuck in traffic whether you want to or not), and the mouth of the Cetina River is gorgeous. Others can probably point you toward Brač and Hvar islands, which also have quieter spots despite overtourism in a few specific areas.

Since you’re renting a car, just make sure to pay the extra fee for ferry access (around 25 €). The islands are truly beautiful and less packed with people and resorts than the coast—it’d be a shame to miss them.

Thanks for all these recommendations! The exact time is mid-June. I was thinking of Hvar at first, but it seems more crowded than the other islands. When you say "several quieter spots," is Jesla one of them? Otherwise, Pelješac might be interesting! Why do you say you liked it "starting from Trstenik"?

I don’t know Hvar well—I’m not sure if it’s very busy beyond Hvar (town), which is obviously super popular. I’d expect Jelsa to be quieter, but I haven’t been there.

For Pelješac, the landscapes get more spectacular starting from Trstenik (heading north). The southern part is definitely busier than before since the bridge opened. North of Trstenik, there are some small, remote villages/hamelets between the mountain and the sea (Dingač) and quieter spots north of Orebić. We loved Lumbarda and the old town of Korčula—if we’d known, we would’ve stayed several more days.

I think I'm going to go with Korčula! That would let me take the ferry from Orebić when I arrive and then straight on to the Vela Luka–Split ferry. Thanks for your replies

For a trip between Dubrovnik and Split, you could stop in Cavtat for its charm, in Primošten for its peaceful beaches, in Omiš for its fine sand, and in Trogir for its historic atmosphere, offering relaxing breaks between the two tourist cities. 😊🚤🏠

What’s this link??

Neither Cavtat nor Trogir are between Dubrovnik and Split... fine sand in Omiš? Really?!
