Je pars la semaine prochaine en Sicile pour une semaine (au départ de Rennes). J'ai choisi une option avec location de voiture et réservation hôtels. J'emmène aussi le guide vert Michelin, qui m'a l'air très bien.
Je poste ici pour info : mon programme est un peu serré je crois, mais en se levant tôt, ça doit être faisable... ;-) Au besoin, j'adapterai si nécessaire.
Je pense ramener de la bonne huile d'olive, si quelqu'un a des recommandations à ce sujet (à part huile d'olive extra vierge) : je ne sais pas, un magasin, une marque d'un bon rapport qualité/prix...
Au retour je mettrai ce post à jour pour dire si tout s'est bien passé comme prévu (ou pas !).

Si tous vos hôtels sont déjà réservés, mes remarques seront inutiles ... Je suis parfaitement d'accord avec ce qui précède, à ce rythme effréné, vous ne ferez que survoler, c'est très dommage . La Sicile est une très grande île, les temps de trajet ne sont pas toujours conformes aux prévisions . En une semaine, je conseillerais de choisir : est ou ouest . En arrivant à Palerme, je n'irais donc ni à Syracuse ni à Taormine ni sur l'Etna ... Mais bien sûr, à chacun son rythme ...

Pour les visites, oui, je sais, ce sera plus "petite ballade en centre ville" ! En fait je vais zapper les visites de musée, cathédrale, etc... et me contenter de rester dans les rues et ruelles (ça me fera des économies).
Je sais que c'est trop en une semaine, mais en même temps je vais me faire une idée de la Sicile plus vaste, quitte à y revenir une autre fois en prenant plus mon temps. Et puis se déplacer tous les jours, voir le paysage défiler, c'est sympa aussi...
Oui, tout est déjà réservé ! Trop tard donc, je vais louper pas mal de trucs (faire de vraies visite des villes typiquement), mais je vais aussi voir plein de trucs je pense, et me faire une première idée de la Sicile.
Et si ça me plaît, si c'est aussi beau que je le crois, et si le contact est bon, alors j'y retournerai en prenant mon temps, promis ! ;-)
Oui, j'avais noté Monreale au départ, puis supprimé par manque de temps. Et ça me laisserait plus de temps pour Palerme... Option intéressante.
Mais j'aime bien faire de la randonnée, et la côte de Zingaro a l'air magnifique.
Bon, je verrai sur place comment ça se passe, et me déciderai à ce moment-là !
perso , pour une semaine , je n'irais pas dans les sites naturels ( alcantara ou zingaro ) qui ne sont pas fondamentalement différents de ce qu'on peut voir en provence ; je me concentrerais sur ce qui est typiquement sicilien et qu'on a pas en france

Alors comme promis voilà mon retour... Dans l'ensemble tout s'est bien passé, même si je n'ai pas exactement fait tout ce qui était prévu (voir ci-dessous). La météo était parfaite, un peu de vent à Syracuse le jeudi, un peu de fraîcheur le soir nécessitant une petite laine, ce qui est normal en cette saison.
La côte sicilienne est vraiment très belle, et les villes qui la bordent aussi. À l'intérieur, c'est autre chose, il a des zones entières complètement abandonnées, il faut dire que le relief est assez accidenté.
Bon, vous aviez raison, j'ai voulu trop en faire, et j'ai passé tout de même trop de temps dans la voiture à me déplacer dans l'ensemble : entre 3h et 5h, soit grosso modo tous les après-midi, ça fait un peu trop et j'en avais marre parfois. D'autant que les routes (et autoroutes) sont plus fatigantes qu'en France : beaucoup de zones de travaux obligeant à ralentir, routes de montagnes à lacets, autoroutes avec des plaques de béton qui font "clac-clac" à chaque jointure ! :-(
Côté visite, j'ai du me contenter de me promener quelques heures dans les différentes villes, sans visite de musée etc... mais ça n'était pas forcément pour me déplaire : j'ai trouvé qu'il y avait tout de même beaucoup d'édifices religieux comme centre d'intérêt, et ce n'est pas vraiment mon truc ! ;-)
Une promenade dans les rues est tout aussi intéressante et sympathique ! Il y a par contre souvent des dénivelés marqués, il vaut mieux être en forme pour grimper, descendre, grimper encore...
Bref, voilà le planning à comparer avec celui préparé :
J1 - Hotel Palermo
Arrivée vers 16h, prise voiture aéroport (agence Firefly, filiale de Hertz apparemment ; personne peu sympathique que l'on a l'impression de déranger, et qui vous explique le minimum avec un débit maximum... franchise accident 1600€, il ne s'emm.. pas).
18h : petite ballade dans Palerme (quartiers Kalsa et La Loggia) : en dehors des lieux touristiques, la vétusté des immeubles apparaît vite ! Je n'ai pas le temps de voir grand chose, resto et rentré à l'hôtel à 22h.
J2 - Hotel Cefalu
10h : Arrivée réserve Zingaro, achat boisson et sandwich sur place, et départ rando. Je passe par les hauteurs et redescend par Sughero, pique-nique le midi à Cara Marinella et son eau turquoise. Retour par la côte. J'ai du faire une dizaine de bornes environ.
Départ 14h vers Cefalu. Je m'arrête au parc archéologique de Solunto près de Bagheria : très bel endroit, ruines laissées à l'abandon, peu de monde, je ne regrette pas mon arrêt.
Arrivée Cefalu 18h, petite promenade et resto, hôtel un peu loin du centre, tout au bout de la plage.
J3 - Hotel Agrigento
Visite dans les rues de Cefalu, ville très agréable où je serais bien resté plus longtemps : c'est touristique, mais assez petit, avec une ambiance assez cool. Montée sur les remparts (très jolie vue, mais c'est tout) ; déjeuner sur place avant de prendre la route vers Agrigento : plutôt 3h que 2h ! Dès l'arrivée, direction la plage de la Scala dei Turchi, magnifique. Visite dans les rues d'Agrigento (beaucoup d'églises, sinon ville assez sympa, peu de touristes).
J4 - Hotel Syracuse
10h : Vallée des temples Agrigento : usine à touristes, les cars défilent les uns après les autres, ajouter les scolaires du coin, et vous avez une ambiance est assez fatigante. Dommage, car c'est une bel endroit.
Déjeuner à San Leone dans un petit café, et route vers Syracuse par la côte : près de 5h de route fatigante, j'arrive à Syracuse fatigué. Ballade dans Ortigia (l'île de Syracuse) : sympa, joli, mais très touristique.
J5 - Hotel Syracuse
Re-visite d'Ortigia Syracuse : petit marché le matin, déjeuner Piazza Duomo, et retour à l'hôtel pour une petite sieste. Visite du parc archéologique de Neapolis, puis resto près de l'hotel.
J6 - Hotel Taormina
Départ Syracuse vers Etna sud (1h30). Arrivée Sapienza : les nuages sont juste au-dessus, inutile de prendre le téléphérique. Ballade sur les deux cratères de Silvestri, et descente sur la côte à Riposto, déjeuner avec d'excellentes "pasta con la Sarde" dans un petit resto local (trattoria) face à la mairie. Ça fait plaisir de déjeuner dans un resto loin des lieux touristiques.
Puis route vers Taormina (1h), un peu de repos à l'hôtel, et visite Taormina partie basse, côté mer. Très belle côte et plages. Au resto, ce sera un très bon risotto aux champignons de l'Etna svp.
J7 - Hotel Palermo
Visite Taormina suite, partie haute de la ville (accédé par le téléphérique). Visite du théâtre grec (très beau site), puis ballade dans les rues du Saint-Tropez sicilien.
En résumé, Taormina est magnifique, j'aurai aimer y rester plus longtemps, même si le lieu est assez surpeuplé et friqué.
Retour Palerme (3h de route) et visite du quartier Albergheria. C'est dimanche, une partie de la Via Vitorio Emanuele est piétonne, ambiance très sympa. Resto dans une petit ruelle où l'on "drague" les touristes qui passent... :-(
J8 - Maison Rennes
Levé 5h ! Remise véhicule aéroport, tous les passagers à destination de Rennes ne sont pas sur la liste d'embarquement. Problème réglé après 30 minutes, tout le monde embarque. L'aéroport dit que c'est la faute de l'agence de voyage (TUI), L'agence de voyage dit que c'est la faute de l'aéroport... On se saura jamais ! ;-)
Arrivée à Rennes à l'heure.
Voilà voilà... Content de mon séjour dans l'ensemble, mais un peu trop chargé je confirme !
Je ferai sans doute un album photo, je rajouterai le lien si j'y pense quand ce sera fait.
Un mois plus tard, j'ai tout de même une déception : j'ai envoyé pendant le voyage 7 cartes postales, toutes postées en même temps dans la même boite aux lettres (à Agrigente). Et seulement deux cartes sont arrivées à ce jour !
Je ne sais pas si c'est un "problème" connu, mais j'ai l'impression que la Poste sicilienne ne fonctionne pas très bien ? enfin, je n'ai pas d'explications en fait...

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?
On the way back, if we have a little time to explore Bern’s historic old town, what’s the best parking plan for a 1- or 2-hour stop?

I’ve found some great deals on flights to two destinations: Menorca in the Balearic Islands and Alghero in Sardinia.
The flights would take us from Bordeaux to Menorca on the evening of 9/07 and return to Bordeaux in the evening on 13/07.
Or to Alghero very early on 10/07 (departure at 6 AM) and return in the mid-afternoon on 13/07.
We love beautiful landscapes, the sea, snorkeling, walks (hiking), and the charm of villages.
We want to spend some quality time as a couple without our kids and mix discovery with relaxation.
I can’t make up my mind. The transport costs are roughly the same when you factor in parking for Sardinia since the early departure means no public transport from home.
We’ve never been to Menorca, Sardinia, or Italy at all. I’ve been to Majorca, though.
Menorca would be 4 nights and 4 days, while Alghero would be 3 nights and 2.5 days.
Also, what itinerary would you recommend for Alghero and Menorca?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...

My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September 2026.
We’ll be flying from Montreal to London, where we’ll spend three nights.
After that, we’ll head to Dublin for a few days and take trains to visit the main attractions.
Our ideal plan would be to choose hotels near train stations and take tours to the interesting spots.
Would 8 days in Ireland be enough for this kind of trip?
We’re a group of 4 heading out at the end of June for 11 days.
I’m just starting my research.
We’ll be renting a regular car, not a 4x4.
I’m not finding a ton of info on the North.
Would love your take on all those kilometers—is there a route that lets us cut out a section?

Can you share your experiences about Bilbao with us? We're planning to go during the last week of April, with our main goal being to visit the Guggenheim Museum. Despite our research, we're not sure if a week is too long or what there really is to see and do in Bilbao. Should we rent a car to explore the surrounding areas? For San Sebastián, it seems there are pretty convenient buses. Would a day trip there and back be doable?
Any advice would be welcome regarding the itinerary, local transportation, hotels, and how long to stay.

I’m looking for a trek itinerary for two people in Sweden—something authentic, varied, and spectacular (transport from Stockholm). My partner and I have experience in Norway (Dovrefjell and Jotunheimen) and would love to explore Sweden’s landscapes. Naturally, I’ve been considering the Sarek / Padjelanta / Stora Sjöfallet area. I haven’t decided on a specific destination yet, so I have a few questions and would love input from experienced travelers.
- Which region of Sweden should be a priority if we love mountains?
- Starting in mid-July, which summits in the Sarek / Padjelanta / Stora area are interesting and accessible without gear (crampons, rope, ice axe)? We have solid mountaineering experience and want to gain elevation without overloading our packs. Ideally, summits without crevassed glacier crossings and minimal technical climbing (easy scrambling).
- How many days does it take to complete the north-to-south traverse of Sarek?
