Bonjour,
Voila, pour finir notre séjour en Thailande, nous aurions souhaité profiter de la beauté des îles du sud pour une 12aine de jours (19-20 janvier au 1er février).
A l'origine nous pensions faire Phi Phi (3-4 jours), puis Lanta (2-3 jours) et finir par Koh Lipe mais j'ai peur ne pas ne assez profiter, que ça fasse trop chargé et avoir l'impression de passer plus de temps dans les transports qu'autre chose.
Nous aimerions visiter Phi Phi, les îles autour de Lanta (Ko Mook, Ko Rok) et celles du parc de Tarutao.
Voici donc ma question : Est-il préférable de rester quelques jours sur chacune des 3 îles (Phi phi, lanta, lipe) et de visiter autour, ou de choisir un "camp de base" (si oui, lequel?) et de tout faire à partir de là.
J'ai fait Lanta et Lipe et se sont 2 îles différentes.
Lipe c'est tout petit et se fait à pied alors que Lanta tu peux louer un scooter et te balader : il y a plus de choses à faire au niveau "terrestre".
Depuis Lanta, tu peux rayonner : Phi Phi en A/R dans la journée (quoique un peu speed vu les horaires des bateaux), Ko Rok (super 🙂) etc..
Après tu peux aller sur Lipe pour finir ton séjour
En 12 jours vous avez le temps de visiter les 3 mais je trouve que 3-4 jours sur Phi Phi c'est un peu long et 2-3 sur Lanta un peu court vu que l'île est beaucoup plus grande. Il faut aussi savoir que pour aller a Koh Lipe depuis Lanta il vous faudra bien une 1/2 journée mais que vous ne pourrez aller dans le parc de Tarutao que depuis Lipe, je n'ai pas vu d'excursion depuis Lanta a la journée, c'est trop loin il me semble 😐 Les excursions sympas depuis Lanta ce sont celles des 4 îles (Kho Kradan, Koh Muk, Koh Ngai, Emerald cave) et celle de Koh Rok. On peut aussi aller du coté de Phi Phi depuis Lanta pour la journée si vous voulez vraiment avoir un camp de base ce serait alors plutôt Lanta qu'il faudrait choisir 😉

Pour Phi phi, on aurait bien loué les services d'un pêcheur sur le port pour faire la maya bay et voir un peu autour de phi phi, mais comment faut-il procéder? tous le font?
C'est vrai que 3/4 jours sur Lanta ça offre un peu plus de souplesse pour faire les sorties sur les îles voisines et puis finir tranquillement par Lipe pour remonter en avion par Hat Yai.
Autre petite question :
Avez vous des hôtels à conseiller (vers 1000-1500 bahts maxi, confort minimum, eau chaude)?
Phi phi : Un peu à l'écart de Tonsai, pas nécessairement en bord de plage
Lanta : Pas plus au sud que Klong nin beach, de préference en bord de plage
Lipe : sur pattaya beach, en bord de plage!

2 jours sont suffisant pour :
- monter au view point avec vue superbe sur l'ile
- 1 journee a decouvrir en bateau les autres iles (dont celle ou a ete tournee le film 'La Plage') et faire du snorkeling. Cela coute en moyenne 550baht/pers.
Par contre, c'est une vrai autoroute marine:( et pense bien a demander des palmes...
Mais je repete, j'y ete seule et je ne suis pas une fetarde:) par contre, je me suis regalee cote restauration.
Je suis tombee sous le charme de Ko Lanta et de ses habitants et je n'arrive plus a en partir. Je suis la depuis 1 semaine.
Il y a des coucher de soleil renversants, tu peux louer un scooter a la journee et te ballader.
Visite en 1 journee des 4 iles avec snorkeling. Superbe. environ 800baht/pers.
Tu peux monter a dos d'elephant et faire du kayak dans les mangrove. (je le fais demain:)) environ 1500baht/pers
Il y a aussi des excursions a la journee sur la fabuleuse ile de Ko rok. 1500bhat, L/R ou sinon tu peux aussi dormir dans des tentes sur place. A organiser car l'ile est vierge...
j'ai trouve un tres chouette hotel. La chambre avec A/C etait a 1200baht, je l'ai negocie a 900baht/nuit avec tout le confort et tres propre. Tu as aussi piscine et terrain de beach volley et les massages :)

Nous ne sommes pas fetards non plus et avant de lire ton message, on avait déjà raccourci Ko phi phi d'une journée. Nous verrons bien sur place, mais nous comptons faire le view point et la fameuse excursion vers phi phi ley et la maya bay.

Pour Phi Phi si vous n'étes pas fêtards comme vous dites, vous pouvez tres bien vous établir sur Long Beach, qui est beaucoup plus calme et vide tot le matin et en fin d'aprem.
Logements un peu plus cher, mais c'est vraiment sympa.
Accessible depuis Tonsai à pied (#20min) ou long tail boat : 100B le trajet (à partir de 2 pers)
Est il possible de trouver un hôtel sympa sur long beach pour 1500 baht? Et les excursions se font au départ des hôtels ou de tonsai? Ce n'est pas trop contraignant de devoir systématiquement retourner sur tonsai?
Si en excursion tu parles d'aller à Maya Bay par exemple, tu peux très bien partir de long beach aussi, il y a une ribambelle de long tail boat qui seront prêt à t'y emmener ;)
Pour 1500B oui, tu trouveras largement ton bonheur là bas. Regarde dans un des guides sur la thailande, il y a de nombreux resorts dans ces prix ... 😛
Même avec toute ma bonne volonté, je ne trouve pas d'hôtel convenable sur long beach (les avis sont très négatifs) dans ces tarifs là. 😕
On est prêts à monter en gamme jusqu'à 2500 bt (environ 60€) pour ne pas tomber dans un endroit qui pourrait gâcher notre séjour sur l'île.

je connais ces 3 iles, j y serais a cette période...
il vaut mieux que vous choisisssiez une des 3 pour y rester car le temps passe trés vite et les deplacements sont chiants et font perdre du temps quand on en a pas bcp...
lanta pour la vie douce et les couchers de soleil des plus beaux du monde..
phi phi pour la teuf mais cher et bondé de monde
lipe ma préféré mais petite ile ou on a vite fait le tour
lanta est un bon camp de base pour vous je pense et super hotel pas trop cher, grande ile, plein de chose a voir, location et circulation a moto trés fluide, pas la foule, point de départ pour visiter les iles alentours....j y serais surement a cette période, j ai hésité aussi comme vous même en connaissant mais je ferais 4 jours a lanta car c est trés sympa et 4 jours a lipe pour la beauté de l eau cristalline...

On a prévu 2/3 jours à Phi phi, pas intéressé par la teuf mais l'île doit valoir le coup d’œil.
5 jours pleins à lanta pour faire le tour de l'île et de celles aux alentours.
et finir 4/3 jours à Lipe histoire de...ne rien faire et se reposer!!
Aurais-tu des conseils à nous donner pour les hôtels à Lanta et Lipe?
On privilégie Klong nin beach pour Lanta et Sunset Beach pour Lipe...Budget moyen vu qu'on aura logé à phi phi avant.

je me permets d uper ce sujet car nous nous rendons dans qq jours sur koh Lanta. Nous prévoyons de profiter de l iles mais aussi de nous diriger vers koh rock pour une journée. Nous envisageons aussi de faire le tour des 4 iles mais nous manquons d information à ce sujet, ce pour quoi j écris.
cette excursion est elle uniquement pour snorkeler? Faut il avoir son matériel ou bien peut on s en faire prêter?
j ai pu lire au il y avait un tunnel a traverser. Est ce qu il s agit d un tunnel sous l eau ou bien hors de l eau? Ma copine étant un peu clostro on a un doute sur le fait de le prévoir..
si c est rédhibitoire pour elle je pense au on se rabattra sur une visite journee de phi phi.
est ce d ailleurs la seule iles (que j ai cité) avec d immenses rochers dans la mer?
De mémoire oui, l'excursion est faite pour snorkeler et griller sur le bateau.
Il y a un tas d'îles avec des "rochers dans la mer".
Pour ko muk (le tunnel) je déconseille aux clostro. La traversée a la nage n'est pas très longue mais un moment c'est le noir total et pas mal de gens ont paniqué. Tu as biensur la tête hors de l'eau et un gilet. Si ta copine le sent pas, elle pourra rester sur le bateau ou a l'entree de la grotte dans l'eau. S'il n'y a pas beaucoup de bateau au moment ou tu y es ça peut être sympa... Le matos de snorkeling est fourni.
Ce n'est pas une journée mémorable bien qu'agréable . Je doute cependant qu'un à/r phiphi soit l'idéal.

Tu sembles plus mesuré sur cette visite des 4 iles que ce que j avais entendu jusqu' a présent. Mais je me questionnais justement sur le temps en bateau qui devait être assez long...
du coup quel conseil donnerais tu d excursions vers une belle ile, si possible avec formation karstique?
nous restons 4 jours koh Lanta, 1 jour farniente, un jour visite en scoot, un jour vers koh rock et le dernier on se tatais pour les 4 iles mais si y mieux, nous sommes preneurs!!

Koh Phi Phi pour les formations. Environ 1h de speed boat, avec plusieurs arrêt (dont la Maya bay "bourré de monde" mais bon, c'est comme ça). Déjeuner sur une île et retour vers 15h à Lanta.
J'irais dans le sens de Pirandy, pour voir les poissons et les formations, mieux vaut aller sur phiphi mais en A/R tu vas faire pas mal de bateau et les spots seront blindés (maya bay et compagnie). Par contre, les deux îles de phi phi sont très belles, il y a des formations, et les spots sont très sympa à mon goût...
Je suis peut être mesuré sur la journée 4 îles parce que j'avais fait une alergie au soleil ce jour là ;), mais c'est difficile de te conseiller le choix entre un A/R ko phi phi et l'excursion 4îles.
Si ta copine est clostro et ne pourra pas profiter de Ko Muk, je vous conseillerai quand même plutôt phi phi...si tu as la possibilité d'y rester 2 jours c'est mieux (prévoir boules quies)
Nous voici à koh Lanta... Après qq péripéties puisque arrivés à Phuket sur les coups d 1h ce marin, la réceptionniste ne comprenais rien à l anglais et ne pouvais pas nous proposer un ferry pour Lanta... Obligé de faire ca cd matin au port, le stress... 1000 bath!
on reste ici 3 jours pleins. 2 pour visiter l iles de fond en comble (scooter) et un pour une excursion.
après avoir choppé qq info (souvent les mêmes) il est proposé :
koh rock en speed boat pour 1600 bath personne
idem pour les 4 iles (emerald cave, kradan, koh ngai et koh chuek ... Pas de kok muk précisé..)
ces deux offres sont sur le même flyer et ont les a trouvées à notre hotel ainsi que dans un centre d info sur long Beach.

En speedboat c'est plutôt autour de 1500 bahts donc 1600 me parait correct (après faut négocier en fonction du nombre de personnes et de la saison: haute ou basse), j'avais fait cette excursion pour la dernière fois en 2009 😉
Très bien donc on va partir sur ca. Ca serait pour d ici a lundi dc haute saison. Quant au nombre on verra suivant les potentiels compagnons.

Sinon pour résumer il faut visiter le parc national tout au sud ouest de l'île et allez visiter Old Lanta sur le coté est en passant par le View point pour y boire un verre ou manger un truc. C'est aussi sympa d'aller jusqu'au sud est de l'île en passant par le village des gysies, de la il y a un chemin qui mène au parc national de l'autre coté mais il y a au moins une bonne heure, voire 1h30, de marche pour y aller et pareil au retour sauf si vous prévoyez un taxi de l'autre coté 😉
Speed boat :
-avantage : rapide, moins nombreux, il passe te prendre sur la plage de ton hôtel
-inconvéniant : plus couteux
Ferry :
-avantage : moins couteux
-inconvéniant :moins rapide, obligé de se rendre au port (une voiture t'y conduit) risque de se retrouver à 200 sur le bateua (même si pour nous ce n'était pas le cas).
Nos reves tombent à l eau... Accident de scooter hier, de bonnes ecorchures qu on a eu le malheur de laver (un peu tard peut etre aussi) au savon et eau avant de désinfecter. Aujourd hui elles se sont infectées, on sort de la clinique, pas de baignade pendant.une semaine et antibio pour ma copine. Bloqué a koh lanta, sans pouvoir se baigner ni marcher.
Preneur d idee d occupationen scoot ou sedentaire... Le parc nturel est il parvourable en scoot?
C est foutu pour les excursions si on doit eviter l eau je suppose?
On envisage koh phi phi du coup puisque le ferry amene et reprend au port.
Désolé pour vous, je comprends d'autant mieux que j'ai eu le même problème a Lanta avec une clavicule en vrac et une infection au retour 🤪 Faites donc attention et voyez un docteur a votre retour. Sinon je vous déconseille le parc national car la route est vraiment mauvaise a moins qu'elle soit complètement goudronnée depuis la dernière fois ou j'y suis allé en 2011 et le parc se fait a pied, c'est en plus dommage de ne pas pouvoir se baigner sur la plus belle plage de Lanta 😉 sinon vous pouvez faire le tour de l'ile pour visiter la cote est et Old Lanta en passant par le View Point au centre de l'île, c'est une balade très sympa. Vous pouvez aussi traverser le bras de mer a Saladan pour aller visiter Lanta Noi, peu de gens le font mais ca vaut vraiment le coup. Autrement il y a un petit marché local très sympa a la sortie de Klong Nin 🙂 Gardez le moral, mieux vaut être blessé au paradis que dans le froid hivernal qu'on subit ici 😉

on a testé d aller jusq au parc mais le gars à l entrée nous a dit au il faudrait poser le scoot a un moment et le faire a pied, du coup demi tour et on a squatter klong jack (il me semble).
il a bien flotté donc ca nous permis de pas trop être blasés.. Quoi que bien stressé car ma copine posait plus le pied par terre et avait le genou super enflé et rouge... Ojd ca va mieux, mais du coup on était bien blasé de ne pouvoir se baigner (on a fait railey, qu' est ce que c est beau aussi! Mais que de monde... On était bien plus tranquille a koh Lanta, mais c est à voir aussi!)
demain matin Ao nang et l aprèm retour sur bkk. Jeudi c est le come back au froid...avec nos croutes...
le moral va mieux heureusement que c est arrivé en fin de séjour.
je pense que ca ne sera pas notre unique fois en Thaïlande, on s est régalés.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m over in East Borneo in mid-July.
I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
