J'ai pour grand projet de traverser l'amérique du sud à moto l'année prochaine.
C'est un voyage qui demande pas mal de préparation et je me pose évidamment beaucoups de questions.
Par exemple, je me doute qu'il y a des des pays a éviter (Colombie, Vénézuella, Bolivie, Nord du Brésil) mais je suis avide de conseils plus préçis.
Mais surtout je cherche des rensseignements de la part de personnes qui ont déjà roulées las-bas, qui connaisent les usages spécifiques des routes, le ravitaillement en essences (qualité de l'essence, indice d'octane, plomb/sans plomb, comment mettre sa machine en sécurité).
Autre questionnement: vaut-il mieu acheter une machine las-bas (les trails 4t japonais sont ils importés) ou la faire venir par bateau (commment? prix?) et se laisser la possibilité de bien la préparer en France.
Par ailleur je crois qu'il faut faire se voyage à deux (sinon vraiment trop dangereux): je cherche donc un coéquipier/ère prés a bouffer de la borne avec un jeune homme de 25 ans qui soit bien sur aussi interressé pour découvrir les peuples, les fastes de la nature et de culture.
Bon, je vois que "diario de motocicleta" a fait des degats cette annee dans l imaginaire des voyageurs !
Alors pour repondre le mieux possible a tes questions ( alors que je ne suis pas un fana de moto ). "C'est un voyage qui demande pas mal de préparation"...... ben justement j ai envie de te dire que surtout pas, il faut sentir le moment ....venir ici, acheter une moto sur place, sutout un truc qui puisse passer totalement inappercu dans les patelins que tu vas traverser sans convoiter les envies .......... flics corrompus, piqueteros, barrages de paysans plus ou moins raquetteurs ..etc... Question: tu comptes rester en Amerique du Sud combien de temps ? Je ne peux te parler que de la zone Argentine que je connais bien, le plus simple en effet est d acheter un truc a deux roues le plus simple possible qui roule, tu l assures sur place ( a la Caja, les assurances sont valides pour Argentine et pays limitrophes, et ca te fera deja une bonne partie de l'Amerique du sud ), compte plus ou moins dans les 60 Ars ( pesos argentins ) par mois d assurance . Les octanes : essence normale, super ou extra, 92, 96, et 98 octanes ...du normal quoi ! En Argentine : moto = esperance de vie reduite ...pour toi d une part, ca roule comme des malades et le motard c'est un des derniers trucs importants qui puisse rouler sur les routes ( mentalite argentine et aussi sud americaine : si il a une moto c'est que c'est un pauvre puisqu il n a pas les moyens de rouler en voiture ! ).... donc faire tres attention a la conduite ! de toute facon : NE CONDUIT PAS LA NUIT ... Quant a la moto : ca se vole encore plus vite qu une voiture, donc la nuit ...ne jamais la laisser dans une rue ( je parle de l Argentine ), la mettre en parking ! Je ne te cache pas, que de voyager a deux serait quand meme preferable...meme pour des raisons techniques si tu te ballade sur des routes ou il n y pas un chat .... tu n as pas interet a tomber en panne ou a avoir un malaise ...tu pourras attendre plusieurs heures ...ou jour avant de voir arriver un autre vehicule ! Sur ce ...je laisse la parole aux autres motards qui auarient deja "galerer" sur les pistes en terre d amerique du sud ou sur la Nationale 40 d Argentine ! A bientot ! Herge !
La moto achete là sur place. Il y a pleins de japonaises et de coréennes.
Achete une japonaise en bon état (dure à trouver) pas trop lourde pour pouvoir la relevée facilement avec un gros réservoir (genre Dr350 ou XT 500 voir un 200). Tu peux trouver sur place des réservoirs de grandes capacités adaptables. Révise les freins, vérifie l'éclairage et trés important le klaxon, fait une vidange (avec de la vraie huile), change les pneus et roule...
Essence: Les moteurs des motos sur place sont souvent réglée pour rouler à n'importe quoi.
Equipement: casque (souvent non obligatoire mais je te le recommande), blouson et pantalon en jeans (quand il fait chaud), gant en cuir légers et outils.
Les routes comme l'a déjà trés bien dit Herge sont supers dangeureuses. Sur la route avec une moto t'es le dernier des derniers (le plus gros à la priorité). Aucun code de la route digne de ce nom, et des routes souvent défonsées avec des trous abymesques, des animaux qui traversent sans crier gare et des bandits de grands chemins.
Evite absolument la police, les militaires, source d'ennuis assurés.
Les paysages sont magnifiques et c'est un beau périple.
Perso je fais du Quad et de la moto sur une Tenere au Paraguay (trés simpa ludique mais, vraiment, vraiment dangeureux) !!!
Je ne peux pas t'aider, mais j'ai rencontré 3 BMW - trails d'origines, neuves, sur l'altiplano en Bolivie (Salar d'Uyuni) conduite par des sud américains qui se rendaient à Uchuaia ... en 2003 .
Je pense que si tu dors tout les soir en auberge ou chez l'habitant, les risques d'agréssions et de vols sont trés limités, je n'ai jamais senti de danger . L'état des routes, tu rencontreras de tout, du bitume, des pistes propres, d'autres pourries, du sable, etc ... J'étais dans un 4/4 .
Le danger seul, c'est que tu te pètes la g...... et que quelque minutes ou plusieurs heures vont s'écouler avant que le premier péquin passe ... question de chance .

Je viens d'acheter un super guide anglais pour faire de la moto autour du monde (Adventure Motorcycling Handbook) qui vat vite devenir indispensable et j'ai pris contacte avec un type qui veut partir de Boston(USA).

Fais attention aux formalités douanières si tu achètes une moto sur place pour pouvoir la sortir du pays d'achat (je ne peux te conseiller pour cela le faisant avec une plaque parisienne!! snob n'est-il pas?) mais je sais que cela ne coule pas de source!!

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

Why not explore the Peloponnese!
I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?

Next October we’re planning to ride the Ruta de la Plata by motorcycle—a historic Spanish route that runs from Gijón to Seville, also known as the N630.
Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s.
This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43)
