The southernmost of Japan's four main islands, Kyushu offers a beautiful tropical natural setting where sea, volcanoes (including Mount Aso), and mountains blend together. With the many other islands surrounding it, the region also provides opportunities to enjoy stunning beaches and a variety of water activities, or even discover places and cultures quite different from the rest of the country, such as the Ryukyu, whose Okinawa archipelago remains the main attraction. Culturally, Kyushu, like the rest of Japan, boasts its share of castles and religious buildings to explore.
