Pour Mai Juin 2019 un SUV Q4 chez Hertz est a 35€ jour contre 21€ cette année avec les codes de réduc. J'espère que cela va baisser. Par contre pas de promo sur les billets d'avion au 15 Aout cette année . il faut compter avec 1 bag en soute 490€ pour un AR Paris LAX et 365€ avec un bag en cabine , il faudra voyager léger cette année.
Pas besoin de code Hertz là bas😉. Voiture + chauffeur (10h/jour) à 750€ pour 15 jours.
Mais si on n'avait pas eu les enfants, on aurait privilégié le scooter pour rester libres.
Ouais quand même 750 pour 15j. On aimerait trouver un gars comme ça mais on en a pas besoin tous les jours. Surtout qu'il nous faut un chauffeur pour 7 personnes.
J'ai oublié certaines infos. On avait emmené le chauffeur avec nous jusqu'à Surabaya à Java.
Dans le détail :
- une location coûte entre 25 et 45 €/jour (32 € pour nous 5, et jusqu'à 45 € pour 12 sièges),
- tu rajoutes le chauffeur à 15 €/jour tant que t'es à moins de 60 bornes de Denpasar : Ubud, et même Sidemen que je conseille vivement, OK
- Si tu dépasses cet éloignement de Denpasar, tu as un supplément de 15 €/jour, en théorie pour que le chauffeur puisse se payer le repas du soir et l'hôtel. (en pratique, il dort dans la voiture pour gagner plus)
- pas obligé de le prendre 15 jours consécutifs. Nous on avait fait une pause sans chauffeur à Amed pour du snorkelling pour seulement 1 jours. A discuter avant de conlure, le patron était ok, mais le chauffeur faisait un peu la gueule car c'était jour de repos forcé.
- possibilité de traverser sans problème Bali pour Java (tu paies juste son billet de traversée)
- souplesse garantie pour faire le sunrise au Kawah Ijen, du moment qu tu respectes ses 10 heures de travail quotidien (au Bromo, inutile, car 4x4 obligatoire où tout le monde s'agglutine, alors qu'il y a une rando de moins de 10 km AR tranquille pour y aller)
- enfin, 125 € de frais de drop-off + dernier plein pour que le chauffeur puisse rentrer à Bali.

C'est un message générique qui dit qu'un justificatif peut être demandé pour valider un cdp. Le notre étant générique, rien ne peut être demandé. Mais dans le cas d'un cdp entreprise ou Amex etc... Du coup c'est stipule qu'un justificatif peut être demandé.
J'ai une petite interrogation concernant les pourboires réglés avec la carte Revolut.
Dans certains restaurants, le serveur part avec la carte, et revient avec la carte (qui a été débitée) et la note sur laquelle on inscrit le pourboire que l'on souhaite laisser. La carte est donc débitée avant que l'on inscrive le pourboire, et la notification Revolut indique bien le montant de l'addition uniquement. Je demande pourtant à chaque fois à inclure le gratuity dans le paiement par CB... Les pourboires ne sont donc jamais débités avec la Revolut ???
En principe il annule la première transaction et refait la seconde en incluant le gratuity. Puis faut attendre plusieurs jours pour que le montant annulé soit à nouveau dispo comme c'est une carte de débit.
2- Hertz effectuera un remboursement intégral de votre réservation en prépaiement :
- Pour les réservations Firefly / Dollar / Thrifty :
a. Si l’annulation de la réservation a lieu dans les 7 jours suivant la date à laquelle vous avez effectué la réservation d’origine ;
b. Moyennant des frais administratifs (voir tableau ci-dessous) si l’annulation a lieu 7 jours après la date à laquelle vous avez effectué la réservation d’origine.
- Pour les réservations Hertz (pour celles effectuées avant le 30 Avril 2018 à minuit, pour une prise en charge à tout moment) :

Je n'ai toujours pas eu de transaction refaite en incluant le pourboire... Mais depuis 2 jours je reçois des notifications pour des paiements annulés ! Resto, visite, essence... Et l'argent est bien recrédité sur ma carte !!!
Je ne serais te dire. Pour l'essence c'est pareil. Comme tu payes en avance, et si tu n'atteint pas le montant, il me semble que le pompiste annule la transaction et en refait une.
Même problème pour moi :
- Des transactions qui avaient été validées se retrouvent annulées. Pourtant j'ai reçu les produits.
- Une préautorisation (essence) d'abord débitée, puis 10jours après recréditée. Mais, là encore, pas de débit du montant du plein.
- Ma loc de voiture débitée 2fois: 1fois en $ et 1fois en Euros, mettant mon compte en Euros en négatif!
Alors je renfloue depuis ma VisaPremier. J'ai la chance de ne pas avoir de problèmes de trésorerie, mais pour l'instant j'ai 700euros dans la nature. Je me dis que ça finira bien par se régler, mais aucune idée de quand 😉

Je commençais tout doucement à réfléchir au fait de prendre la Revolut à force de lire tous vos avis positifs... Mais ce que je lis là me fait faire machine arrière !
J'ai horreur de ne pas savoir où j'en suis financièrement, j'aime que les choses soient claires.
C'est sûrement pour ça que je préfère que la majorité des hôtels soient payés avant de partir (sinon il y a l'incertitude du taux) et que je préfère emporter un maximum d'espèces. On utilise très peu la carte sur place...
Je vais donc garder ma bonne vieille méthode d'aller changer des € chez CEN change je crois !😉
J'ai prévu de faire un bilan au retour.
En primeur: il ne sera pas enchanteresque, mais pas cata non plus. La carte Revolut a de bons côtés, mais il est utile également de posséder d'autres moyens de paiement "au cas où" car quand ça fonctionne bien, c'est l'idéal, mais quand ça coince, il n'y a pas grand monde (enfin, c'est juste ma première expérience) pour te répondre.
Ce qu'il faut garder à l'esprit c'est que c'est un carte de débit. Et qu'en cas de blocage de caution par exemple, les fonds sont vraiment indisponible. C'est pour ça qu'il faut donner sa carte EUR pour les cautions et la Revolut pour les paiements.
Pour la voiture, en demandant à payer avec, Hertz prend une empreinte bancaire et donc les fonds disparaissent. Puis il facture vraiment et la pré autorisation est annulée. Les fonds reviennent 10 jour maxi après d'où ton double débit.
Par contre si tu as été débité en EUR c'est que tu n'as pas choisi d'être débité dans la monnaie locale sur le terminal de Hertz.
Revolut fonctionne très bien mais c'est une autre façon de faire ou procéder. Pour notre voyage de septembre j'en suis pour le moment à zéro frais bancaires.
À savoir aussi que mon sais exactement où on en est avec les dépenses car moins de 5 secondes après le paiement la notification apparaît sur le téléphone.
Pour les stations aussi, si tu choisis de mettre 30 dollars cette somme est prélevées. Si au final tu n'as mis que 20, le caissier annule la transaction de 30, et refait une de 20. Donc 2 debits. Puis la transaction annulée est recreditee environ 10 jours après à l'annulation.
Par contre quand tu es en débit avec la carte, cette dernière se désactive et bloque toutes les transactions. Il faut donc aller dans les paramètres de sécurité pour la réactiver et faire en sorte que toutes les transactions se mettent à jour.
On a eu du mal à cerner le fonctionnement l'année passée et après dialogue avec Revolut et observation, on a mieux compris.
Aujourd'hui je l'utilise régulièrement en Suisse et déplacement.
Mais il faut un autre moyen de paiement et surtout de caution pour que ce soit rentable.

Je rejoins Arnaud sur le côté positif de la carte Revolut. Nous avons pratiquement tout payé par carte pendant nos 3 semaines. Nous avons retiré 100 USD en arrivant, et il m'en reste encore un peu. Cela évite l'angoisse et le risque de voyager avec de grosses sommes en liquide.
Les notifications de transactions instantanées sont aussi plutôt rassurantes dans la mesure où l'on ne tape que très rarement son code pour un achat aux USA.
Et enfin, si des achats sont annulés et recrédités sur la carte, c'est pas très réglo pour les commerçants, mais on y est pour rien, et c'est tout bénef 😎
A la fois +1 pour les explicztions d'Arnaud.
Mais également +1 par rapport aux remarques de Peggy: ça demande une gymnastique à laquelle tout le monde n'est pas prêt.
@ Arnaud : Pour ma loc Hertz, non ce n'est pas une question de préautorisation: j'ai bien été débité 2fois. Et pour le débit en Euros, il est apparu "tout seul" alors que le paiement initial a bien été fait en $ 🤪
Ca se régularisera, je ne suis pas inquiet. Faut juste avoir la trésorerie pour attendre.

Ça c'est le côté positif qui me faisait songer à prendre cette carte. C'est teeeellement plus pratique que de devoir programmer une virée à Paris pour aller chez CEN... mais comme l'a dit Caussat, ça demande une gymnastique intellectuelle à laquelle je ne suis pas prête !😛
Et puis, ça ne nous stresse pas de partir avec plein de billets.
Concrètement hormis la location voiture où je suis bien obligé de faire avec les 10j, je ne paye pas l'essence, les restos, les tips avec cette carte. Tout en espèce sauf supermarché, hotel, achat boutique fast-food, bref tout ce qui est paiement juste et immédiat.
J'ai aussi la carte revolut , non pas pour forcement l'utiliser aux etats unis car je prend une option à ma banque mais surtout pour pouvoir faire des achats sur internet hors zone euro sans avoir de frais bancaire et sa marche tres bien.
Comme je n'ai pas encore l'option internationale(qui est payante à ma banque) j'ai par exemple acheté des places de concert , billets de match NHL et billets du memorial 11/09 à NY, pour mon futur voyage aux etats unis avec la carte revolut.
Ce qui est pas mal aussi c'est de pouvoir debloquer/bloquer instantanement sur son telephone les retraits ou les paiement en ligne avec la carte ou activer /desactiver la bande magnetique et le paiement sans contact.
Pas mal d'options dont devrait franchement s'inspirer nos banques francaises sans nous faire casquer un bras
Oui, en fait elle a quand même des avantages, mais avant de commencer à l'utiliser, il faut bien savoir la manière dont on compte l'utiliser !
C'est intéressant de ne pas avoir de frais lors des transactions. Moi j'en ai peu finalement (la plupart des hôtels sont pris sur Hotels.com et la transaction se fait en €) mais il m'arrive d'en avoir quand même (certains hôtels ou encore la voiture à payer sur place chez Hertz). Ce ne sont pas des grosses sommes vu que j'utilise très peu ma carte sur place.
Par contre, je sors quand même l'AMEX tous les jours pour les cautions à l'hôtel et pour ça je la trouve très pratique : les montants n'apparaissent jamais sur mes relevés (donc c'est comme s'il n'y avait pas d'opération pour moi) et je n'ai jamais eu de problème de plafond comme c'est déjà arrivé à certains.
Avec Revolut, sur un mois glissant, on a le droit à 200x en retrait sans frais et ensuite c'est 2% de frais. Je met un x car c'est la première devise retirée qui compte.
A certaine banque les frais sont plafonnés. Il faut se renseigner au préalable et du coup parfois retirer une grosse somme d'un coup avec sa carte EUR pour être gagnant.
Autre facteur à prendre en compte: c'est la banque ou l'atm qui fixe le taux de change dans ce cas là et il peut être moins avantageux voire bien pourri. En retirant avec Revolut, on sais qu'on bénéficie du meilleur taux interbancaire en vigueur si on retire en respectant la procédure fournie par Revolut.

J'ai réservé avec Carigami une 7 places ( Toyota Sienna) 18 j pour 620 euros (assurance 0 franchise), je pensais que c'était extraordinaire, mais je me rends compte en lisant ici et là qu'on peut encore faire mieux..
Et oui je n'ai pas pu ajouter ma carte gold car c'était reservé avec carigami...
Par contre pour mes prochaines locations aux USA (et il y a en probablement 2 cette année) je prendrais avec plaisir tes conseils Jpg 13 ! ( j'ai déjà commencé avec la carte Gold Hertz..)
Il faut veiller à scruter tous les sites Hertz EUR. Le FR, IE, Es, IT, CO.UK, Hertzdk.dk, PT ... Selon l'agence de prise en charge / retour, date et catégorie, les prix varient.
J'ai suivi pendant 1 an les prix de tous ces sites en A/R depuis LAS pour septembre 2018. Et je peux dire qu'il y a parfois des surprises et des changements de prix tout le temps.

Sur le conseil de Caussat, je suis venue sur ce post pour voir cette procédure. Cela marche-t-il même si la réservation initiale date de plusieurs semaines ? Je veux dire en faisant la procédure et donc en annulant puis en réservant à nouveau, ne risque-t-on pas de perdre l'avantage du prix qu'on avait obtenu à la première résa car ils prendraient peut-être alors en compte le prix du jour de la procédure et non celui du jour de la résa initiale ? Car depuis que j'ai effectué ma résa je retourne régulièrement sur le site de Hertz pour voir si les prix ne viendraient pas à baisser, auquel cas j'annulerais ma première résa pour bénéficier d'un meilleur tarif... mais, pour l'instant les prix ont plutôt augmenté et si je réservais aujourd'hui, j'aurais un tarif beaucoup moins avantageux qu'à ma première résa.
Faut essayer. Il y a des cas ou la liaison n'a pas fonctionné. Pour moi ça a toujours fonctionné car fait assez vite après la réservation.
Chez Hertz, en modifiant, il y a une case cochée par défaut en bas de page "Conserver le tarif initial". Si le tarif a augmenté, ne pas décocher la case. Dans ce cas j'ai toujours conservé le prix.
Sinon, il ne faut pas hésiter à annuler la résa (si paiement sur place) et à en refaire une.
j'ai réservé il y a une semaine un minivan chez Hertz du 29/05/19 à 13h au 09/06/19 à 13h à l'aéroport de San Francisco, en utilisant le code promo 510000 (qui donne 20% pour un tarif de 386 USD), en paiement sur place.
La réservation a fonctionnée avec le code promo.
Or, quelques jours après avoir effectué la réservation, je vois dans mon compte HERTZ que le prix a changé et est donc passé à 486 USD. J'ai donc annulé ma réservation (je n'aurais peut être pas du...).
Depuis, je n'arrive plus à tomber au même prix (386 USD soit -20%) avec le code 51000, j'ai l'impression que ce code n'est plus pris en compte.
J'ai trouvé le code promo CDP TRAVEL CLUB PARTNER 706900 qui donne également les -20%, mais je ne souhaite pas utiliser ce code, car je n'y ai pas droit, et en cas de problème....
Je souhaite savoir si vous l'un d'entre vous aurait un code générique qui donnerait également une remise de 20% ?

Moi aussi je recherche une location d'un SUV a Los Angeles du 1 mai au 30 juin 2019 et Hertz est très cher 34€ jour pour un SUV Q4 , contre 21€ cette année avec les codes de reduc par Hertz.co.ok
Alamo est a 38€ jour avec 10% et fond rarement des promos , AVIS est a 64€ jour .
J'ai trouver sur skyscanner.net un tarif a 25 € jour pour un SUV chez Dollar mais je pense attendre un peu de voir les évolutions de prix.
Je viens de regarder ma résa et effectivement, même constat : ma résa a augmenté et pas qu'un peu : presque 300 $ dans la vue !!!! A ce prix-là, autant annuler ma résa. Savez-vous s'il y a moyen de contester car ça n'est quand même pas normal qu'on "signe" pour un tarif et qu'ils le changent, sans même en avertir les clients, en plus ! Je trouve ça scandaleux. Moi, j'avais enregistré et même imprimé mon "voucher", ça peut peut-être servir de preuve...
Ce sont des voleurs s'ils ne font pas un geste pour les personnes qui avaient dores et déjà réservé. Qu'ils suppriment un code de réduction, ok, mais je ne suis pas sûre qu'ils soient en accord avec les lois du commerce en l'ôtant d'une résa déjà effectuée ! Je pense même qu'ils sont hors la loi sur ce coup-là !!!

Three years after exploring northern Argentina and Chile, my two travel buddies and I want to discover the southern part of these two countries.
We’re traveling on a budget, backpacker-style, favoring public transport and modest accommodations, but we don’t hesitate to splurge a little when it’s worth it.
The classic spots that have been fueling our dreams: Bariloche, the lakes, Chiloé, El Chaltén, Torres del Paine, Perito Moreno, El Calafate, Fitz Roy, Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, and wrapping up in Valparaíso.
We’ll take a round-trip flight to Santiago, then I’m thinking of a one-way flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas. From there, we’ll explore and do several day hikes in the south, including Ushuaia and, if possible, Tierra del Fuego.
Then we’ll head back north by bus to Bariloche and the lakes, followed by Chiloé, then a bus to Santiago and Valparaíso.
Based on your experience, could you help me figure out the best way to structure this trip and maybe suggest some ideas?

We’re a young couple planning to travel to South Africa after spending about three weeks in Namibia. We’ll arrive in Cape Town around mid-December, with no fixed travel duration (though our budget will eventually set a limit).
After browsing through the forum, we’ve realized the country is packed with incredible spots, which makes choosing an itinerary tough. We’re looking for stunning landscapes, hikes, and so on. So, we’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
When we arrive in Cape Town, we’d like to settle in and take it easy until New Year’s, exploring at a relaxed pace. We know this period coincides with South African holidays—does that make finding accommodations (availability/prices) more difficult? Do you think it’s possible to stay in a nice place for about 15 days without aiming for the most upscale neighborhoods? Maybe somewhere a bit outside Cape Town, like Fish Hoek, and just visit the city occasionally.
After that, we’ll have plenty of time (about 2 to 2.5 months) to explore the country. We’d like to take our time. In your opinion, is it better to focus on the Cape Town region, or is it reasonable to consider more distant areas like the Drakensberg or Blyde River Canyon? Can everything be done by car if we take our time, or are domestic flights sometimes more practical?
Budget-wise, how much do car rentals cost? For accommodations, we usually look at Airbnb—are they affordable in South Africa? What’s the average nightly rate outside the biggest cities? Are there other platforms you’d recommend for saving on lodging?
Finally, regarding safety, are there any regions to avoid besides Johannesburg?
We know this is a lot of questions, but we’re still in the early planning stages!

After exploring southern Peru in 2024 with your help, we’d love to head north next. There’ll be 5 or 6 of us:
1. Arrive in Lima in the evening.
2. Visit Lima and take a flight at 6:35 PM to Tarapoto.
3, 4, 5. Spend a few days there to trek in a reserve (Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve) or somewhere else.
6. From Tarapoto to Chachapoyas—either by overnight bus, daytime bus, or private car.
7. In Chachapoyas: Gocta Waterfall, Sonche Canyon, and walk back to town.
8. Head to Kuelap citadel, Revash, and arrive in Leymebamba.
9. Leymebamba museum, then route to Cajamarca.
10. Cajamarca hot springs, overnight bus to Trujillo or Chiclayo—or do both.
11, 12, 13. Visit and explore the area.
14. Overnight bus back to Lima.
15. Lima.
16. Depart at 8 PM for France.
What do you think of this itinerary? Looking forward to your advice.

I’d like to drive to Morocco from Paris via Spain. I was really surprised to see the ferry crossing prices—around 500 €—but especially the crossing time (about 1 hour). Normally, I pay 3000 € to go to Tunisia from Genoa, but that’s for a 24-hour crossing.
My question: is it cheaper to buy the ticket on the spot, as some Moroccans have advised me? Though I’ve also heard the opposite.

I’m planning a 10-day trip to Slovenia in May (9–19 May) and starting to look at accommodations. Unfortunately, I’m only seeing relatively expensive options—nothing under 50 €, and usually around 100–150 €. Traveling solo, that could quickly blow my budget. And 30 € for a bed in a 10-person dorm at a youth hostel feels like a rip-off...
Are there other booking sources besides the usual Booking.com, Airbnb, and Google? Or can anyone confirm if I’ll find more reasonable rates on the ground around Bled, Bohinj, Triglav, or in mountain huts? I’ll be renting a car to optimize my travel, so I won’t be limited geographically.

I’m diving into planning a trip I’ve dreamed of for a long time: crossing Africa from North to South solo, with a departure planned for October 2025 for about 8-9 months. I’m leaving from Paris with a starting budget of around 7,000 €, aiming to supplement it with work along the way.
My planned route: Senegal → Gambia → Sierra Leone/Liberia (if logistics work out) → Côte d'Ivoire → Ghana → Togo → Benin → Cameroon → Gabon → Kenya (Masai Mara) → Uganda (Bwindi gorillas) → Rwanda → Tanzania (Kili + Serengeti + Zanzibar) → Mozambique → Malawi → Zambia (Victoria Falls) → Botswana → Namibia → South Africa (Cape Town). Madagascar as a bonus if timing/budget allows from Mozambique.
I’m not a backpacking newbie—I’ve done several trips in Europe and I’m familiar with the lifestyle, hostels, local transport, etc. But Africa is my first big adventure on this continent, and I’ve got some very concrete questions I’d love feedback on from people who’ve been there.
🎭 My big dilemma: flexibility vs. pre-organized work
What matters most to me is NOT rushing through. If I feel good somewhere, I’ll stay longer. If a region doesn’t click, I’ll cut it short. That seems totally incompatible with having pre-booked work or volunteer gigs, yet I need that income to stretch my budget.
I’m torn between two approaches:
Option A: The mixed rhythm: 3-4 weeks of volunteering in a country (free accommodation, full immersion), then 1-2 countries in classic backpacker "vacation" mode, then another mission somewhere, etc. This gives a breathing rhythm and avoids burnout from non-stop volunteering.
Option B: The continuous flow: finding gigs as I go, from the previous country, contacting hosts 2-3 weeks in advance with a flexible date range. Keeping maximum spontaneity but never arriving anywhere without a safety net.
Have you tried either? What actually works on the ground in Africa?
🌍 What I’m really looking for in this trip
Not just the classic tourist spots. I want to see the country as it is—eating at local joints, taking local transport (bush taxis, minibuses, sept-places), staying with locals when possible. The big reserves and safaris are part of the plan (Masai Mara, Serengeti, Okavango), but just as much as hanging out in a residential neighborhood in Dakar, understanding how people really live.
Volunteering or work interests me for that reason too (not just for free lodging, but because it’s the deepest way to dive into a country). Working at a school in Ghana, a lodge in Kenya, a permaculture farm in Mozambique—I see it as an immersion that classic tourism can’t offer.

About Workaway and Worldpackers: I’ve read a lot but would love on-the-ground feedback, especially for West and East Africa. Are hosts really flexible with dates for long-term travelers? Do the advertised gigs match reality? Are there alternative platforms you’d recommend for Africa specifically (I’ve heard of Help Exchange, WWOOF Africa, local networks…)?
About "off-platform" jobs: Is it really doable to find informal work on the spot (bars, restaurants, lodges) without prior contacts? In which countries/cities is this most accessible for a French speaker without a local work permit?
About logistics between countries: For those who’ve done the West Coast (Senegal → Ghana → Benin), how did you cross borders? Direct buses or local shared taxis at each border? And for the jump from Central Africa → Kenya, is a flight mandatory, or are there feasible overland routes?

We’ve got a budget of 8,000 €, and I was thinking of doing three or four days of safari and three or four days in Zanzibar, but even that seems like it might be over budget. Have you got any thoughts? I was also considering heading straight to Zanzibar and doing a one- or two-day excursion by plane instead—maybe that’d be cheaper than staying in a lodge.

Now, after seeing and reading a bit everywhere, and with the first quotes for a 6/7-day safari, I’m shocked by the prices (like $2,250) for places like Maasai Mara, where entry alone costs $200 per person per day, plus fees for the driver and vehicle.
So if you have any recent great tips or contacts to share to help me out, I’d really appreciate it—because despite the costs, we’d still love to go, while keeping things reasonable.
The most plausible solution is probably renting a vehicle with a driver-guide.
