Hi there,
to help you choose accommodation near a beach and get back to Ermoupoli, check the bus schedules on ktelsyrou.gr. There are currently 4 buses a day, 2 to 3 times more in the summer. The bus loops around, serving all the seaside villages either clockwise or counterclockwise.
The north of the island is uninhabited, and the beaches are accessible by caïque from the southwest resorts. But watch out for sunbelt scams—prices like Saint-Tropez or Mykonos!
For accommodation, charming historic houses in Ermoupoli within neoclassical buildings, and standard rooms in all the villages. Four-bed rooms for 60-70 € or studios with a separate bedroom for teens at 80-100 €.
In Kini, studios with gardens at Ligariès (ligaries.gr) or Apospéritis, a bit farther from the beach (aposperitis-syros.gr). From the port, boats go to the northern beaches like Marmari and Grammata, sheltered from the meltem.
In Galissas, Sea View (thalassiathea.gr) has studios, a nice beach, but the resort is much busier than Kini.
Lots of French speakers on the island—half the population is Catholic and was educated in private schools run by nuns.
The best tavernas are in Ermoupoli along the quay and in the alleys between Miaoulis Square and the Catholic monastery of Saint Vincent.
Otherwise, gyros and souvlaki shops are everywhere on the island. A mezedopoleio at the top of Ano Syros on Piatsa.
Happy trip planning! Book as soon as you’ve set your dates by calling for a quick response.
