Hi Fabhyène, I just discovered this incredible travel journal—wow, it’s gorgeous! And to think I almost missed it! 😕 I love illustrated travel journals. I try to make one for every trip to extend the joy and have a little window to open when I need a change of scenery 😉 I was about to ask how you draw, but you already answered another forum member—if I understood correctly, you do a lot of drawing "after the fact" (which lets you travel with family without making everyone wait...). I really love your use of the black/white/red trio, which fits Japan so well. Thank you so much for sharing this—it brightened my gloomy afternoon and fed my nostalgia for that country 🙂

Hi Violaine, thanks for your message!

This is pretty recent for me—I’ve always drawn on and off over the years, but I’d hit a bit of a block with travel journals, even though I really wanted to do them. I’d often pack a notebook, pens, watercolors, and in the end, I just couldn’t make it work. I wanted to do it on the spot, live, but that just didn’t suit me at all. I don’t want to make the people I’m traveling with wait, and honestly, I’m much happier with the result when I do it properly set up with all my gear (I always forget something when I’m on vacation 😅). This Japan journal came together after I discovered that special paper I bought in the Japanese Alps. The black, white, and red just felt right from the start. If you’re interested, I’ve posted a journal about Oman online, including the one I finished this summer. The format, the paper, and the country itself led me to use color, and I worked with oil pastels. Best regards,
