(ya t'il encore assez de patins pour cela ?) répondez ici s'il vous plaît pour l'ensemble des foromistes et nous nous projetterons rapidement une rencontre ''cyclo-campeur'' dans le grand sud par example (genre un lac chaud d'été, un paysage de rêve comme on en connait chacun) pour ces beaux jours qui sont iminents, pour en dicscuter, avec des TDM (pour la cerise !)
Je sais que ce post est limite de basculer dans le forum rencontre, mais pour l'instant, c'est le questionnement, l'introspection cyclofantastique en somme ! Les participants feront qu'il le sera ou pas (merci les administrateurs!).

C'est pour nous un grand rêve de pouvoir partir un an ou même six mois à vélo. Le pas à franchir est tout de même énorme car cela impose de remettre tout notre gagne pain en question! Fermer une boutique puis de la ré-ouvrir un an plus tard nous décourage. A le faire ce serait pour 3 ou 4 ans pour que cela en vaille l'effort.
Si vous connaissez des exemples ou si vous avez fait cette démarche, nous sommes tout ouïe...

Toi qui es du 34, saches que pour ces deux grands w-e qui arrivent, allons découvrir le Lévezou le Rouergue le Terrefort le Pays de Conque au départ de Millau pour le premier et le second sera consacré (5 jours) à faire un grand tour du Canigou (dans les PO).
Profitons de ces quelques jours pour caller cette rencontre autour d'une bière ou d'un kombucha😎
Bon, il est évident qu'il faut que nous nous rencontrions, cela fait beaucoup de points communs qui s'additionnent tu sais? je t'en parlerai à l'occasion ...allez, je te le dis. Je fais le meilleur kombucha de Vias 😛 et mon ''champi'' est gros comme un grand camembert tout blanc. Je surrenchéri en te disant que l'année dernière, j'ai fait le tour (assez large) du Canigou en vtt en passant à côté du Pla guilhem, mais en plein ''la collada de roques blanques" où se trouvaient des cheveaux sauvages en liberté (c'était magnifique !), tout cela en passant par le col de mantet juste avant. On a dormi à Py (juste 1000 m d'alti pour le premier soir...j'arrête, je suis hors sujet😕
Je pars le fameux deuxième weekend ''à pont'' à vélo en ardèche sur 3 jours, histoire de refaire chauffer la selle qui a gelé cet hiver...j'arrête, je suis hors de nouveau 🤪 (je t'écrirrai en direct pour cela, ok ??!!)
Pour tous les lecteurs, on peut dire que l'on pourrait se prévoir un circuit pourquoi pas tous ensemble et faire un groupe de cyclo-campeurs cet été, au plus tard. Tiens je n'ai jamais vu de camp de manouches à vélo !! On se grèfferai aux pôteaux électriques, aux tuyaux d'arrosages et trouverions quelques poules qui se serait jetées sous ''le train de roues''.
La question qui nous concerne est le questionnement sur le dit grand saut. Je pense aussi qu'une année est bien trop juste, car un compte à rebours vient obligatoirement créer un timing qui est un peu contraire à une des libertés que l'on a de voyager à vélo. Il faudrait calculer avec les jours, plein de compromis etc...
La traversée du continent américain (ce qui me convient très bien) entier nécessite de toutes façons plus d'une année. Ayant quelques livres sur le sujet, comme celui de Claude Marthaler que je bouquine en ce moment, je me dis que ce n'est pas possible autrement (il est parti ''dans l'idée..pour deux années mais n'est revenu que 7 après). Ne serais-ce que d'y penser, je veux dire, revenir au bout d'un an, me rend malade, vraiment.

Un tour du Canigou un poil plus grand qui passe par l'Espagne... Je promène dans les Pyrénées avec des cartes Rando editions au 50 000 qui malheureusement vont pas trop sur les côtés Espagnol. Existe t-il, connais-tu des cartes de ce gabarit pour le côte ibérique des Pyrénées?

Non, plus sérieusement, super, on peut choisir la seconde période de juillet, sur une ballade collective (unique non celle-ci non ?) et des soirées autour d'un feu de camp... (je vous y vois tous déjà !). A mon avis, d'autre adèptes du voyage à vélo vont nous faire l'honneur de leur présence et en remuant le sac, on trouvera un lieu et une date, un parcours d'ici là.
Pour ma part, j'avoue que c'est assez facile pour moi de prendre ''une année sympathique'' ou deux puisque je suis un acharné du travail (on nous appelle ''fonctionnaire", le terme exact, parlons correctement, même si l'on est nomade), célibataire (mais fidèle, même si j'ai deux vélos), sans enfants mais je jure que je sais les faire ! Je ne sais pas par contre pour combien d'années une telle décision de partir aura comme incidence, et suis convaincu qu'après un long voyage, sur plusieurs, on deviendra un étranger en regardant notre pays.
Ainsi, pour ma part encore, je souhaiterai me mettre à l'abrit, en réalisant une opération immobilière, de façon à avoir une certaine sécurité au retour. Le retour, je vois que tous les hommes que j'ai vu s'expatrier reviennent inexorablement vers leur patrie, en fin de leur vie (active), comme un instinct, animal. Il y a des raisons profondes à cette motivation pour une telle façon de voyager, de partir, cette durée. Je pense que l'on va à la recherche de réponses fondamentales au travers un voyage de cette nature. On ne s'établie pas, on ne fait pas de choix d'une identité au sens le plus large durant un long voyage nomade, un point en suspension..., on se met en retrait, on observe.
Vos dates seront les miennes, quoi qu'il pleuve.

Je suis motivé pour partir, même quelques années. Le problème, c'est que j'ai 15 ans, et que mes parents risquent de pas être chauds, sans parler de l'école ( faudrait apprendre moi même sur place, sur un plateau au pied des glaciers, en plein Tadjikistan, lol )

Nous sommes deux, étudiants (mais payé) et reportons toujours d'une année scolaire le moment du départ! Une des questions est : vaux il mieux partir entre deux années d'études ou bien au contraire tout finir et partir dans la transition étude-boulot. En plus clair, est-ce plus facile de se remotiver dans des études ou dans un travail après une années comme celle ci... Si quelqu'un à des éléments de réponse, nous les accueillons avec plaisir!

Les 2 mon général ! Mais faut avoir les moyens de ses ambitions ! Le pb est souvent financier quand tu es étudiant. Perso, j'ai dû attendre la fin des études, puis petits jobs pdt qqs mois avant de partir un peu moins d'1 an. Boulot en route pour se refaire qqs finances, puis vraie entrée dans la vie active au retour. Aucun regret.
Après, ça dépend aussi du type d'études. Parfois dans certaines écoles, on a la possibilité de faire des stages en dernière année chez un futur employeur potentiel. Dans ce cas, mieux vaut peut-être partir plus tôt ?

Vous êtes un couple et qui dit couple, l'idée de construire (au sens large du terme) fait parti du shéma commun de l'évolution de la relation. Ce qui est le plus à craindre pour moi, ce n'est pas de retrouver ou pas la motivation des études, mais plutôt de ne plus pouvoir partir car l'engagement dans un acquisition immobilière et un enfant par example vous scothchera sur l'hexagone pour pas mal d'année.
Si il est certain que vous puissiez reprendre les études, pourquoi pas partir maintenant !!?? Il est probable, même fort probable que ce sera une des plus belles choses que vous aurez faite dans votre vie (ça c'est du vécu pour moi ! ).
Combien de personnes me disent : << Laurent, si je pouvais partir ...mais je ne peux pas....>>.
Normalement, l'effet de lire ceci ci dessus devrait provoquer des chatouilles au ventre !! C'est normal. Penser au voyage stimule énormément et fait partie du plaisir, on se met à table en quelque sorte 🤪

I’m planning a cycling trip across Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, with a departure set for late October, November, or December. I’m looking for a travel companion to share this long-distance adventure with.
Experience:
I already have solid experience in bicycle touring in Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Currently, I maintain excellent physical condition by cycling an average of 250 km over 3 days per week (4 hours a day at 20 km/h).
The trip & the pace:
Daily pace: Between 50 and 80 km per day, to make steady progress while taking time to explore.
Accommodation: Flexible and authentic. We’ll alternate between wild camping, campsites, Warmshowers, small guesthouses, and budget hotels depending on opportunities and the weather.

- The route: I was thinking of taking Nice - Grasse - Draguignan - Salernes - Cadarache - Cavaillon - Arles, then the Camargue, Sète, and the Canal du Midi to Toulouse. The idea is to avoid high-traffic roads and too many steep climbs. Are there any spots to avoid or must-see stops? Since it’s been a while since I’ve been on the road, I was thinking that sleeping indoors might be preferable. If you have any budget-friendly accommodation suggestions along part of the route, don’t hesitate!

We bought the MSR bike tent model (2-person + large awning that can fit 2 bikes) back in 2005. It’s served us really well, especially during a year-long trip in Africa. Now, one of the poles is broken, and we’d love to replace it since that’s the only issue with the tent—we still love it! The poles are 9.35 mm in diameter, with 8 sections of 49 cm and 2 sections of 28 cm. Total length when assembled: 416 cm. Actually, two large sections are broken: one straight and one curved. It’s a pain to find replacements since this model is no longer sold anywhere.
Would anyone have this model lying around unused and be willing to sell me a pole?

After testing it for three years across various modes of transport, I’m sharing this video of a bike packing case. It’s made from recycled cardboard and shrink-wrapped, with adjustable thickness and added bubble wrap depending on the level of protection you want.
Installing spacers at the fork and chainstays makes the packaging compact. With the fifteen-odd euros for shrink-wrapping at the airport, this case travels really well.

- Low bulk (1.10m x 0.70m x 0.25m for a large frame), it fits vertically in train luggage compartments and the total dimensions (x+y+z) don’t exceed 2.40m.
- Two carrying solutions for public transport and easy handling by airport staff (no more tears in the cardboard from openings).
- Discreet packaging when dealing with bus drivers and train conductors, as it looks like an ordinary parcel.
- No need to return to the starting point to retrieve the case from your outbound trip, which you’d otherwise have to store somewhere, or deal with a bulky cover to pack in your panniers.
- You can still check tire pressure through the plastic film without damaging the packaging too much.
Drawbacks: Around 3 hours for this lengthy and meticulous process—removing the wheels, pedals, handlebars, and derailleur without misaligning them, then securing all components to the frame.

I just took a trip in Tunisia from Tozeur to Douz, skirting Chott el Jerid to the south. I’m back with the urge to keep going further south via the 4x4 tracks to connect Douz to Ksar Ghilane. Has anyone driven this route recently or explored southern Tunisia?

I should mention I have no financial or other interest in this (in an era where we accuse our politicians of all sorts of vile interests, I prefer to take precautions). I’ve been subscribed since the beginning, and every three months, I get my 130 pages of dreams (the magazine just went from 110 to 130 pages).
It covers everything from the trans-America route to the TCR (Trans Continental Race) from Belgium to a small town in Turkey, with mind-blowing averages—4,000 km and 80,000 m of elevation gain in 8 days and 15 hours for the winner. Let that sink in, and all of it without assistance—accepting a patch could penalize you. There’s also a story about crossing Iran, encountering one of the world’s most welcoming populations, following in the footsteps of Nicolas Bouvier, as well as retirees leisurely traversing France. The common thread in all these stories? Beautiful writing. I’ve got my flight ticket sorted—departing in mid-November and returning in mid-March. I’ll arrive in Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires.
I’ve already been to southern Argentina, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, and I’d love to go back to do the full W trek (I only did the shorter version last time).
I also want to do some hiking and maybe even tackle a summit. I climb and occasionally do some mountaineering, so I’ll definitely be going with a guide.
I plan to start around Temuco in Chile, with the idea of heading toward the lakes, then taking the Carretera Austral.
I’m not sure if I’ll go all the way to Ushuaia—it’s supposed to not be *that* worth it, except for the bragging rights of saying you’ve been to the end of the world.
I saw there are lakes in Argentina too.
I don’t have a precise itinerary, but what I’d love is, once I reach the southernmost point of my trip, to take a mini-cruise to see some wildlife. Any tips for that?

I'm developing a free and open-source web app for planning walking and cycling trips (and even car trips). You can create a route by clicking directly on the map to add waypoints, and it can consist of multiple stages. The app provides tools to edit the stages and the overall route, and to display useful information (distances, altitudes, and elevation changes). A relief profile can be shown as a graph for a specific stage or the entire route.
Once the route is ready, it can be exported as a GPX file, which can then be used with a GPS or a mobile navigation app.
The app is built in JavaScript and runs entirely in the web browser. It uses the Leaflet library and several OpenStreetMap-based services. Initially developed for my personal needs (I enjoy hiking and cycle touring), I’d be happy to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It’s free to use, doesn’t require an account, and the source code is available.

I’m planning to cycle from Morlaix to Brest (via Roscoff and the V45 coastal route). We’ll start riding on August 16th for 13 days (with stops for island visits, surfing, etc.). Is there a lot of traffic at this time of year? I’ve got two kids, 11 and 13, and we don’t like riding in the middle of cars (we’ve already done the Vélomaritime—Caen to Cherbourg—the Loire route from Orléans to Saumur, the Vélodyssée from Nantes to Royans, and the canals like the Nivernais and Bourgogne, where there were plenty of bike-only lanes, which isn’t the case on this route).

I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès.
Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route!

This summer, we’re planning to cycle along the EV 19 that follows the Meuse River from Langres all the way to Rotterdam.
My question is about getting back to Nantes.
Do any of you know what the best return option might be? I’d love to hear about your experiences.
I saw that FlixBus doesn’t take bikes.
By train, I think it’s possible but would involve multiple local trains.
We were also wondering if there’s a boat from Rotterdam to Saint-Nazaire that could take passengers with bikes.

It was really convenient to take the bike without having to disassemble it.
But FlixBus no longer accepts bikes...

Since it’s too complicated to bring my bike on the train, I’m looking to rent one locally.
I’d love any tips or bike rental shop recommendations—I’m struggling to find options even in Rotterdam.
The plan is to rent in Rotterdam, take the train to Maastricht with the bike, then cycle back to Rotterdam.

I want to prioritize lightness.
That said, I’m tempted by a suspension fork that could offer some comfort on rougher roads.
The recent appearance of gravel suspension forks on the market might meet my needs—at least on paper.
I’m particularly considering the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
Unlike MTB forks, its travel is short: either 30 mm or 40 mm.
It weighs 1400 g, which is 400/500 g more than a steel fork.
Any thoughts or real-world feedback on this?
I’m also wondering about the durability of magnesium (lower leg) for long-distance bike touring.
And what’s the impact of skipping the manufacturer-recommended maintenance every 50 and 200 hours? That’s bound to happen on a long trip unless you carry extra gear.
More generally, how reliable are these kinds of forks?
