On est une famille avec 2 enfants 12 et 10 ans . Nous prévoyons dans un futur sans virus, un voyage au Japon, on hésitait entre 15 jours au printemps ou 3 semaines en ete mais les JO étant reporte, je crois que le printemps sera bien. On est des fans de jeux video, manga, nature , animaux et monsieur reve de tester le wagyu ou autre sushi. Les enfants veulent aussi absolument faire le nouveau parc universal studio avec le parc Nintendo.

Je vous propose une ebauche de planning assez classique mais J ai du mal a evaluer le temps des visites donc je sais pas ce qui est faisable. Je ne me suis pas encore renseigner sur les transports a part le JR pass de tokyo a kyoto mais pour hakone-fujiyoshida- kyoto Y a t il un autre moyen ou faut repasser par Tokyo ?

Hi everyone, So great to be back on this forum😉

I just lightened my wallet by 3000 € for 3 tickets: Paris > Tokyo > Osaka > Paris (well, not just mine—I’m exaggerating, there are two of us). For my daughter’s 10th birthday, we’re heading to Japan—it’s her "decade gift," though I thought she’d pick London🏴‍☠️. But I’ve been dreaming of going back to Japan since my 2013 trip, so I’ll admit this trip is (a lot) for me too. We’re traveling during school holidays, so the ticket prices are unfortunately sky-high. Maybe I could’ve gotten a better deal if I’d waited, but who knows... oh well, it’s done now. We leave at the end of October, so we still have a few months to prepare. That said, I’d rather start early to make sure we don’t miss anything (like the Ghibli Museum—I couldn’t go last time, and anyway, I’ll have to wait until September to book). Last time, there were three adults, so it was pretty straightforward. Eleven years later, well, now it’s two adults with a 10-year-old😛.

So I’m wondering how many days to spend in Tokyo. My daughter idealizes the city (that’s why she wants to go to Japan), and she’s really drawn to Japanese culture and food. Actually, what first got her interested in Japan were all the *kawaii* character products... Tokyo is such a fascinating city, but it can also be exhausting—especially for a kid, and I’m not sure what to expect. Beyond Tokyo, honestly, I’m not entirely sure. I was thinking of Hakone and maybe stopping by Fujikyu Highlands. Then heading down to Osaka for a few days in Kyoto before flying home (our return flight is from Osaka). We only have 11 days there (not counting the arrival day, and since our flight leaves at 11:30 PM on departure day, we’ll have the whole day), so it’s not a ton of time. I already spent a week in Kyoto on my last trip (huge crush on it), and I’d love to have two months there, but... well, you know how it is.

For example: 5 days in Tokyo 2 days in Hakone 4 days in Osaka/Kyoto

What do you think? If you’ve done this trip with kids, do you have any tips for family-friendly accommodations in Tokyo and Hakone? My daughter would love to try an onsen. We have a decent budget, but it’s not unlimited. We’d like to book as we go to spread out the costs a bit.

18 avril: Départ de Kyoto en fin de journée pour Nara. 2 nuits / 2 jours à Nara (avec les temples au sud de Horyu-ji, Toshodai-ji et Yakushi-ji)

20 avril: Départ de Nara en fin de journée pour Ise. 2 nuits / 1,5 jour sur place

22 avril: Départ vers midi de Ise pour Nara puis pour Koya-San. 2 nuits / 1 jour sur place.

24 avril: Départ le matin pour Tanabe, puis Hongu: Kumano Kodo. 2 nuits / 1,5 jour sur place.

26 avril: Départ le matin de Hongu pour Osaka. Visite de la ville. 1 nuit (départ le 27 au matin).

Si vous avez une remarque concernant l'utilité ou non du JRP pour ce séjour, merci de nous le dire également.

Pour les cerisiers en fleurs, avec nos dates, cela semble compromis... on verra!

Nous savons que pour beaucoup Tokyo est l'endroit à ne pas manquer, mais actuellement ce qui nous intéresse ce sont les temples, la nature, les villages, etc. C'est donc un choix conscient que nous avons fait pour ce premier voyage de ne pas aller jusque là-bas...

partant au Japon dans un mois et demi avec mes deux ados, je me permets de vous solliciter pour savoir si mon programme de visite de Kyoto et de ses environs vous semble faisable.

J1 - Matin: Arrivée à l'aéroport du Kansai. Transfert vers Kyoto. Après-midi : Fushimi Inari Taïsha

J2 : Matin : Kinkaku-ji (pavillon d'or) et Ryoan-ji. Après-midi : Arashiyama.

J3 : Matin : Ginkaku-ji (visite), Chemin des philosophes, montée Keage. Fin de matinée/début d'après-midi : Parc Maruyama, Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka, Kiomizu-dera (visite) 16:30 : Spectacle Miyako Odori à Gion Fin d'après-midi : Gion et Pontocho

J4 : Journée : Excursion à Nara Fin d'après-midi et soirée à Osaka (Dotombori)

J5 : Journée au Parc Naruto & Boruto Shinobi Zato à Awaji Island

-> J'ai un gros doute sur la faisabilité de mon J3. Sur le papier, le parcours du matin fait 3km/38 mn de marche, et le suivant 2,4km/32 mn, mais j'ai du mal à évaluer les temps de visite nécessaires pour le Ginkaku-ji et le Kiomizu-dera, ainsi que le temps qu'il nous faudra pour déambuler en route et nous imprégner de l'atmosphère des lieux...

Ce parcours nous fait passer devant pas mal d'autres temples (Nanzen-ji, Shoren-in, Chion-in, Kodai-ji) mais je ne pense pas que nous aurons le temps de tous les visiter. Je compte ensuite prendre un bus depuis le Kiomizu-dera vers 15h30 pour nous rendre au spectacle à Gion où nous devons être vers 16h.

Est-ce que tout ceci vous semble faisable ? L'idée n'est pas de blinder les journées, mais d'avoir un bon aperçu.

(J'ai vu un exemple d'itinéraire sur un autre site qui incluait sur une journée équivalente à mon J3 une visite de Fushimi Inari Taïsha en plus - ça me semble totalement irréaliste !? Bon, ils précisaient quand même "Ce sont un peu des visites au pas de course..." Tu m'étonnes ! 😉).

avec ma compagne on part pour la 1ère fois au Japon en mars prochain. On a pensé à un itinéraire "classique" de 20 jours pour notre 1ère fois dans ce pays, qu'en pensez-vous? Est-il trop ambitieux? Pour faciliter les déplacements, on a pensé à l'activation d'un JR pass 14jours à partir de Kamakura Jour 8 et sachant qu'on décolle depuis Tokyo-Narita au retour. Et Koya-San, on hésite car les connexions ne sont pas directes en train, le bus direct depuis kyoto est toujours possible? cela vaut le détour?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to return to Japan for 15 days in April. This will be my second trip there. I’m starting to think about my itinerary.

I arrive in Tokyo in the evening and will spend one night there before taking the train to Hiroshima. I’ll stay in Hiroshima for 2 nights. Then, I’m heading to Kyoto (there are still so many beautiful things I want to see there), and I think I’ll stay for 3 nights. I also want to go back to Nara to visit the Pink Temple (probably in the morning before heading back to Kyoto).

And after that? I’d like to return to Hakone to try and catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji (I didn’t see it last time—it was cloudy). I’m thinking of staying one night there, probably in Odawara.

And then? I’ll head back to Tokyo and take the train to explore the surrounding areas and spend the day at some sites?

While in Tokyo, I want to visit Yokohama. I went to Kamakura last time and really loved it, but I don’t think I’ll go back.

I’ll end my trip in Tokyo, with my second-to-last night at the Muji Hotel and my last night near the airport.

That’s the plan so far—I’m open to your suggestions and itinerary tips!

We’re arriving as a group of three in Tokyo on Saturday, October 17th, then heading straight to Kyoto by direct train. On Sunday and Monday, we’ll explore Kyoto, and in the evening, we’ll take a train to Osaka to spend the night. On Tuesday, we’ll pick up a rental car at Itami Airport for a 6-day/5-night road trip around Shikoku: - 2 nights in the Iya Valley - Thursday morning, we’ll head to Matsuyama for 2 nights. - Saturday, we’ll visit Mima (town, a few temples + overnight stay) and return on Sunday to drop off the car in Osaka. We’ll leave very early on Monday the 26th by plane for Aomori in northern Honshu, where we’ll pick up another rental car at the airport for a 5-day/4-night trip: - Day 1: Tsugaru Peninsula (Takayam Inari, Cape Tappi, Kanita); overnight in Kanita - Day 2: Ferry transfer to the Mutsu Peninsula (cliffs, Lake Usori); overnight in Shimofuro - Day 3: Head to the Hakkoda Mountains and onsens galore; overnight TBD - Day 4: Return the car in Aomori by noon and explore the city before taking the train to Tokyo in the evening We’ll spend Friday night in Tokyo, wander around on Saturday, and head home on Sunday.

Thoughts on the road feasibility of this trip? We’ll be there right in the middle of Koyo season, so it’ll be busy... I know it’s a lot of driving, but there are two of us who can take turns. We’re not afraid of driving, even in the mountains and on the left side! Just wondering, are we going to be rushing, or is this manageable? AI says it’s all good, but it’s not the one driving... Any tips for booking accommodations in the Iya Valley? Not many places have email addresses or websites (I know Booking.com exists, but not all listings are on there... and given the season, I think it’s better to book ahead!). Same question applies for northern Honshu. For the rental car, I’m thinking of going with Alamo since at least it’s in French and straightforward, but are there any direct rental companies with user-friendly websites (Toyota Rentacar, ugh... 🏴‍☠️)? Another question: With so many trains, is it even necessary to book them in advance? Can we just go to the ticket counter and grab seats on the spot? For paying for the rental car, do we need a credit or debit card?

Nous aimerions partir au Japon en septembre prochain et si possible sans agence! Nous avons déjà beaucoup voyagé à travers le monde de cette manière mais, nous étions beaucoup plus jeunes et ''ce n'était pas au Japon''. Mes questions sont d'ordres pratiques, à savoir : Le Japon se visite de manière itinérante, donc refaire les bagages tous les deux ou trois jours et prendre le train ou le bus etc, ! Si l'on se trouve à Tokyo par exemple, comment fait 'on ? un taxi , un bus ou autre mais pour se rendre où et à quel endroit ? Il doit y avoir une multitude de gares ou d'arrêts de bus dans cette immense ville ou l'anglais n'est pas courant ? Ne perdons nous pas trop de temps à chercher ce que l'on doit faire et comment le faire ? Est-ce vraiment pratique pour des personnes de 70 ans , même si l'on est en pleine forme… C'est vraiment la chose qui me turlupine, c'est devoir être sur le trottoir sans vraiment être sur de trouver de l'aide et de se perdre . Le Japon, ce n'est pas New-York ou Paris voir même Bangkok, c'est vraiment un endroit des plus dépaysant qui ne ressemble à aucun autre endroit dans le monde. Je voulais ajouter que nous sommes très très visite, nous prenons tout notre temps pour chaque endroit donc les voyages en groupe ne sont pas notre tasse de thé ! Bref ... J'envisage de faire un voyage au Japon en 08/2021 (pas d'autre période possible) avec mon mari.

Voici une première ébauche, merci à celles et ceux qui maîtrisent le sujet de m'apporter leur avis sur la faisabilité (notamment durée, distances ...).

Nous voyageons régulièrement et j'organise seule tous nos road trip (Europe et USA notamment) mais pour l'Asie ce sera une première (Thaïlande effectuée en voyage organisé et Bali en privatif).

We’ve already been to Japan before, back in 2013 for 15 days in August, visiting the major tourist hubs: Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Himeji, and Ogimachi. This time, we’re taking more time—about a month—with the following points of interest: Start of the trip with a few days in Tokyo Osaka International Exposition on October 11–12, 2025 Jidai Matsuri Festival in KYOTO on October 22, 2025 Karatsu Kunchi Festival from November 2–4 Our goal is to blend into the crowd and make connections in festive atmospheres. Do these stops sound interesting to you? Is it a good idea to stay in a central location between October 10 and 23 to get to the Osaka Expo and the Jidai Matsuri Festival in Kyoto using public transport, and to explore the region in between? Between Kyoto and the KARATSU Festival from October 23 to November 1, we’re thinking of traveling by shinkansen with a stopover for a few days to visit Hiroshima and the surrounding area. Looking forward to your thoughts if you have time—this is just a first draft, and we’d love to dive into more details.

Logiquement, nous avons prévu de partir avec ma femme au Japon mi Mai 2021 (On verra si cela est possible étant donné le contexte actuel). J'essaye tant bien que mal de préparer un itinéraire sympathique mais cela s'avère beaucoup plus complexe que prévu étant donné le nombre de choses incroyables que ce pays propose. Sachant que nous sommes intéressés par pratiquement tout (ville, nature, gastronomie...) et surtout on aime mixer et varier les journées.

Honnêtement, les choix a réaliser sont compliqués. Etant donné que ça sera notre premier voyage au Japon, nous souhaitons faire les incontournables bien entendu (mais je sens bien qu'il va falloir choisir les incontournables des incontournables 😉 )

Du coup, je suis intéressé par vos avis et conseils concernant une première ébauche que j'ai prévu.

Du coup, j'ai quelques questions : _Que pensez vous de l'itinéraire ? Des choses à modifier ou optimiser ? Je me pose la question pour Osaka notamment (3 soirs) et Kyoto sur 4 jours complets ou j'ai un peu peur d'une "lassitude" concernant les temples même si ils ont l'air magnifique (sachant que ces 4j sont à Kyoto même).

_Il nous semble possible d'ajouter une journée dans le circuit mais je ne sais pas ou cela serait le plus judicieux (Tokyo, Nikko, Nara, Uji, Himeji, Kyoto, Miyajima ou autres)

1) What budget should I plan for 15 days, given that hotels with breakfast, transfers, and transport are already paid for? I know it depends on the person, but I’d love a rough idea. For meals, we’re thinking simple street food or small local restaurants.

2) I’ve heard that credit cards (we each have a Revolut + 1 Visa Premier) aren’t widely used and that it’s better to have cash. Can you confirm?

3) Are foreign credit cards still not accepted at bank ATMs? Still 7-Eleven or the Post Office? And what about American Express?

My wife and I are heading to Japan from March 27 to April 22, 2025. On the evening of the 21st, we’ll be staying in Tokyo to catch our international flight. For this first trip, we’ve prioritized a fairly classic itinerary. Here’s the plan:

- Osaka (arriving at Kansai Airport) - Hiroshima - Itsukushima (also known as Miyajima) - Kyoto - Nara - Kanazawa - Shirakawa-go - Takayama - Tokyo

We’ll likely finish our sightseeing in Tokyo around March 17.

We’re thinking of heading somewhere "quiet" or "by the sea," maybe an island, between the 17th/18th and the evening of the 21st.

Je sollicite votre aide pour notre prochain voyage en famille nous comptons nous rendre au Japon pour la première fois du 21 février au 5 mars, nous atterrissons a Tokyo et nous repartons de Tokyo nous avons déjà réservé s 4 nuits à Tokyo mais nous voulons ensuite partir vers une autre région j'hésite entre les 3 citer au dessus ! Un vrai casse tête... Nous recherchons la nature, des balades, des petites randonnées, de jolis paysages ect. Nous avons éliminer Hokkaidō car trop froid avec un bébé de deux ans et le Kansai car les sanctuaires ect. Ce n'est vraiment pas notre truc.

La location de voiture n'est pas un problème.

Pensez-vous qu'il soit possible de tout visiter? Je ne sais pas trop comment organiser mon itinéraire par rapport aux distances des villes. Mes centres d'intêrets sont la visites de temples, les toris sur la mer, les rizières , les plantations de thé, être proche des habitants, la nature...

Je cherche aussi un ryokan assez sympa mais pas hors de prix mais je ne sais pas dans quel endroit il vaut mieux le prendre.

DAY 1:

11:00 – Harajuku & Takeshita Street

Walking route:

Start with Takeshita-dori (kawaii fashion, Japanese crepes). Walk up to Omotesandō (designer architecture: Dior, Prada).

Hello everyone, what a pleasure to be back on this forum!

My partner and I are heading to Japan for the first time from mid-December to mid-January for 31 days. It’s a long-held dream we’ve been saving for over two years, and we want to enjoy ourselves while also being mindful of our budget for parts of the trip. We’d love to explore Tokyo, but we’ve chosen to spend more time in nature. My partner plans to get his driver’s license translated locally so we can rent a car. We’ve heard from friends who’ve been that Japan isn’t the best place for improvisation, so we’ve tried to allow plenty of time in each location to avoid rushing. Still, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary we’ve planned—whether it’s feasible in terms of travel and how interesting it seems. Given the recent increase in the JR Pass price and the fact that we’ll spend about ten days on Goto, Ojika, and Yakushima (where the JR Pass doesn’t cover travel), we don’t think it’s worth it for us. Instead, we’re planning to take the train from Tokyo to Fukuoka and then use buses and ferries for the rest of Kyushu. Here’s our itinerary:

1- December 13 / Arrival in Tokyo, one night in Tokyo, then departure for Fukuoka by train on the morning of the 14th.

2 - December 14-16 / 2 nights in Fukuoka, sightseeing, then departure on the evening/night of the 16th by ferry to Ojika Islands.

3 - December 17-21 / 4 nights on Ojika, cycling and exploring, then departure on the 21st by ferry to Fukue on the Goto Islands.

4 - December 21-24 / 3 nights on the Goto Islands, renting a car to explore, maybe a trip to Hisaka. Departure for Nagasaki by ferry on the morning of the 24th.

5- December 24-26 / 2 nights in Nagasaki, visiting the city and memorials, possibly the hot springs in Unzen. Departure on the evening of the 26th by bus or ferry (?) to Kumamoto.

6- December 26-29 / 3 nights in Kumamoto, sightseeing, day trip by car to Mount Aso and surrounding areas. Departure on the 29th in the late afternoon by bus to Kagoshima, overnight in Kagoshima.

7- December 30 to January 2 / Morning departure by ferry to Yakushima for 3 nights, hiking and exploring the island. Departure on January 2 on the only ferry (?) in the early afternoon back to Kagoshima.

8- January 2 to 5 / Uncertain leg... We’d like to spend the night of the 4th to the 5th at a ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen and then head back to Fukuoka and Tokyo by train on the 5th. From the 2nd to the 4th, since we’ll arrive in Kagoshima in the late afternoon, we thought we could head back up to Kumamoto by train or bus—going to Yufuin or Beppu would take much longer and leave us with very little time. But is it worth staying another 2 nights in Kumamoto to explore the area, given we’ll already be there for 3 days from December 26-29? Or should we stay in Kagoshima and head up to Kurokawa Onsen on the afternoon of the 4th for our overnight stay?

9- January 5 to 13, Tokyo and its endless things to do and see, then back to France!

Ojika: Would one night be enough?

Yakushima: Are two full days (plus two half-days) sufficient?

If we keep the schedule as is, we have one extra day to fit in somewhere—any suggestions?

Day 7: Sasebo + Kujukushima Pearl + fireworks show Day 8: Karatsu (Yobuko market + cave + cape) + Matsuri Kanchi Day 9: Kashima + garden + Tara Day 10: Higashi Sonogi, overnight in Nagasaki. Is it better to return the car in Arita or Nagasaki? Days 16, 17, 18, 19: Fukuoka city and maybe Nokonoshima or Kitakyushu
