Here’s the itinerary I’ve planned for this new trip to Thailand:

Arrival – 2 nights in Bangkok (any hotel recommendations? Very quiet, near Chinatown or by the river)

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)

Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Ko Kho Khao – 3 nights – relaxation (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Phang Nga Bay – 1 night (any base recommendations?)

Excursion in the bay, then drive to Krabi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations) or any other spot with beautiful, quiet beaches that you might know?

Return to Surat Thani – overnight train to Bangkok, then Ayutthaya (any hotel recommendations?)

Visit the site and transfer to the airport – sniff, time to head back!

If you have other suggestions, keeping in mind the trip’s vibe: beach time without crowds or entertainment, a bit of nature, a bit of culture, no stress... No domestic flights and charming accommodations (not at 150 € per night, even though the budget is reasonable!)

Not sure I’ll follow them all, but all your ideas are welcome! 😉

Bonjour, Nous souhaitons partir à 4 visiter la Thaïlande et je souhaite être aidée à la création de mon itinéraire. J'ai sélectionné plusieurs sites et j'aimerai savoir si cela en vaut le peine vu que nous serons 15 jours dans le pays (sans le voyage).

Je suis ouverte à d'autres propositions de circuit. Voici mes étapes Pour un séjour de 2 semaines sur place Arrivée à Bangkok le dimanche 1er février à 15h00 retour jeudi 20 février à 12h30.

La première semaine:Bangkok 2 jours, Ganesha Park 1J, les parcs historiques d’Ayutthaya 2J, et de Sukhothai 2J ainsi que la visite de Chiang Mai 3J dans le Nord et Chiang Rai (si on a le temps). Je recherche aussi un monastère pour séjourner une nuit.

La deuxième semaine : Les îles du Sud Koh Lanta 3 jours et une autre île (à définir).

Je devrai aussi trouver les modes de transport et l'hébergement. Connaissez vous ces étapes ? Qu'en pensez vous ? Avez vous des tuyaux ?

Nous n'avons pas l'habitude de voyager et votre soutien nous est précieux. Je vous remercie par avance de votre aide.

Je pars avec ma compagne en Thaïlande fin janvier. J'ai déjà prévu un petit itinéraire mais j'ai un trou au milieu, que je ne sais pas par quoi occuper tant tout me semble attirant. En gros nous souhaiterions débuter notre séjour par quelques jours à Bangkok puis deux jours au Khao Yai.

La grande question que je me pose est ou aller entre le Khao Yai et le sud. Sachant que le 25 c'est le nouvel an Chinois (hôtels sans doute full dans pas mal de coins j'imagine). Du coup, soit on reste dans la région du centre, soit on monte au nord et puis avion vers le sud. Bref je suis un peu perdu, tout me semble attirant. On ne cherche rien en particulier si ce n'est découvrir du pays. 4 jours ce n'est pas tellement donc je préfèrerais éviter les gros trajets (de jour en tout cas).

Nous passerons la fin de notre séjour sur une île (avion? train de nuit? bus?). Probablement Koh Yao Noï sur les conseils d'un ami ou Koh Kood mais si vous avez d'autres propositions je suis partant :) Nous cherchons un endroit calme, sans prétention, sans fiesta avec une possibilité de sorties snorkeling de qualité.

Bonjour, J essaye de faire un itinéraire sur les îles du sud. Voici notre programme qui peut changer selon les avis de chacun. Pour info nous aurons 14 nuits fin janvier début février 2020. Les vols ne sont pas encore achetés nous attendons selon notre itinéraire. 3 nuits sur Krabi (1 journée Hong Island et 1 journée a Koh Rok et Koh Haa) 5 nuits Koh Lipe 5 nuits Koh Phi Phi Par contre dans quel sens faut il faire cet itinéraire pour avoir le moins de temps de trajet moins de perte de temps possible et par quel moyen de transport pour aller d’une île à une autre. Bonjour je m'interroge sur les étapes le long de la boucke de Mae Hong Son (à 2 roues motorisé). Je ne vais pas partir très tôt le 1er jour (arrivant juste la veille à Chiang Maï), aussi je me demande s'il y a des haltes sympa avant Mae Sariang (je ne compte pas rouler de nuit et je table sur une vitesse moyenne basse). Devrais-je prévoir plus de temps sur le tronçon CM - Mae Sariang ? Ma 2ème étape pourrait être Mae Hong Son (à moins qu'il soit particulièrement recommandé de s'arrêter à Khun Yuam ?) Je pense rester une journée pour MHS et ses environs. Puis le 4ème jour aller vers Soppong : peu de km mais trajet très tourmenté semble t il ? Est ce que je devrais prévoir de visiter Tam Lod ce jour-là ou bien le 5ème ? 5ème jour : ballades autour de Soppong (comment trouver un itinéraire court et sympa pour marcher ?) 6ème jour : il me faut impérativement arriver à CM ce jour-là, le trajet est il réalisable depuis Soppong ou faut-il que je me rapproche de CM le jour 5 ? J'ai déjà eu l'occasion d'aller à Paï, et pas envie d'y revenir - sauf à y faire étape si nécessaire, bien entendu.

C'est pour le mois de janvier : est il facile de trouver des hébergements sur place ou bien faudrait il réserver ? Merci d'avance de vos infos pertinentes !

Hello, I’m heading to Thailand for two weeks at the end of February with my family. I went there 20 years ago. I’d love your thoughts on a relaxed two-week trip that lets me show my kids the joys of travel while also taking time to unwind (after all, it *is* vacation! :)) I’m planning to spend 2 days in Bangkok, then take the overnight train to Chiang Mai (so my kids can experience that) and stay for 2-3 nights. After that, I’ll fly to Phuket for a few nights, then head to Koh Lanta for a few days before returning to Phuket to make my way back to Bangkok for the last two days before departure. Tons of people travel for two weeks during this time—any recommendations? So far, I only have my round-trip flight ticket to Bangkok. Thanks in advance!

Au milieu de tous ces posts concernant le Coronavirus (lol) je pose par ici une question à laquelle j’ai du mal à trouver une réponse c’est assez compliqué voilà je pars dans deux semaines pour 14j et j’ai déjà décidé des étapes de mon voyage : Arrivée et départ de Bangkok et visite de : Sukhothai / chang mai / chang rai / khao sok / koh muk ( oui ça peut faire beaucoup pour 2 semaines mais j’ai l’habitude de voyager en bougeant beaucoup je préfère) Sachant que j’aimerai faire un trajet en train de nuit pour l’expérience :) Après sinon avion bus.. peu importe

Mais le problème c’est que je n’arrive pas à mettre dans l’ordre ces destinations auriez-vous une idée de ce qu’il serait plus pertinent à visiter en premier ou en dernier (et le top si vous avez une idée du temps à consacrer à chaque étape (oui j’abuse lol )) j’aimerais finir par khao sok car on dit souvent qu’il faut garder le meilleur pour la fin :D Par exemple je ne sais pas s’il est judicieux de faire Sukhothai/chang mai / chang rai avant de redescendre dans le sud sans risquer de faire une overdose de temple et pour le coup de ne pas les apprécier à leur juste valeur...

question bonus est-ce que ça vaut le coup de dormir à Sukhothai ?

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Our flights are booked, and we’ll arrive in Thailand at the beginning of January.

Originally, we were supposed to spend 14 days there. But after booking the flights and seeing the prices, we’ll now be there for 20 days instead.

Our initial plan was: 2 days in Bangkok 1 day in Ayutthaya 4 days in Chiang Mai 6 days around Krabi

So we have 7 more days to fill. What do you recommend?

An extra day in Bangkok? Adding more days in the north? If so, where? Exploring another region, like Kanchanaburi or Cheow Lan Lake? Traveling north in stages instead of taking the overnight train?

A few extra details about us: For us, vacation isn’t about relaxation—we love walking, exploring, and packed days don’t bother us. Hiking for hours and doing active things is what makes us happy. That said, we also enjoy visiting villages and towns if they’re worth the detour. In Thailand, we’d like to visit temples too. We’re early risers, so our days tend to be long. 🙂 In short, we like to keep things moving during our trips. 😉

Unfortunately, seeing terraced rice fields isn’t possible in January. I read there are rice fields around Sukhothai. Are they green in January?

In the north, do you recommend Doi Inthanon, Huai Nam Dang, or Doi Chiang Dao National Parks? Which one is the most beautiful and best for January?

Sawadee krap! En mars prochain, jedébarquerai à Bangkok et avant d'aller sur mon île secrète, je vais faire un détour au nord de Bangkok pour aller visiter deux vignobles thaïs; Gran Monte Estate et PB Valley Winery (et peut-être Village Farm & Winery).

J'aimerais connaître les meilleurs moyens de transports possibles (taxi, bus, train?) pour se rendre dans ce coin-là (Nakhon Ratchasima 30320) de Bangkok (Dusit) et les prix moyens que je peux m'attendre à payer, le temps pour s'y rendre, etc. Et tant qu'à faire, une petite GH bien située et pas trop chère comme pied-à-terre. Je pense y rester deux jours, peut-être trois car il y beaucoup à voir dans cette région.

Hi everyone... I apologize in advance if some of my questions have already been answered on this forum—I didn’t have time to read through everything.

I’m planning a family trip to Thailand in July for 6 people: - 4 adults, 1 child aged 14, and 1 aged 9. We’ve started looking into travel agencies that specialize in the country and offer custom trips.

Our initial idea was a budget of 2500 € per person for a stay of around 14 days, including:

- 3/4 days in Bangkok (visiting temples, floating markets, Chinatown, river cruise, etc.) - Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya - 3/4 days in Chiang Mai (elephant sanctuary, rice field visits, temples, etc.) - Then a domestic flight to finish the trip in Krabi for 3/4 days (free time + excursions to Koh Phi Phi and/or Phang Nga, for example).

I’d also have liked to visit Chiang Rai, Lopburi, and Sukhothai, but we’ll have to make some choices.

So, my question is: - Is it better to go through well-known agencies to plan our trip, or is it possible to use local agencies for visits with French-speaking guides (if needed) and book flights and hotels on our own?

Does a budget of 2500 € per person seem reasonable for this kind of classic itinerary?

I’ve received (or will receive) quotes from agencies like Evaneos, Tourlane, Havas, Sawa Discovery, Nomade Aventures, etc. They all seem very professional but offer rather high-end services.

If any of you have recommendations for local agencies, I’d love to hear about your experiences. Also, is it possible to organize this kind of trip to Thailand on your own?

I know I’m not being very original, but I really want to make this a fantastic vacation with the best tips possible to avoid cutting the trip short to fit my budget.

Hello, We’re heading to Thailand for 26 days (excluding flights) next July with our two teens (12 and 15 years old). My husband and I have been there several times before they were born—so that’s 15 years ago—and I’m a bit worried about some of the changes that might have happened since, especially with the rise in tourism... I’d also like to keep a pace that allows us to settle in a bit and enjoy local life beyond just the main sights. Plus, we’re pretty active. For now, our plan looks like this:

Arrival in Bangkok, where we’re thinking of spending several days (minimum 4) Chiang Mai for about a week 2 or 3 islands in the Gulf Return to Bangkok for 2 days before departure.

We’re pretty set on Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but we’re unsure about which islands to visit—I’ve read such mixed things that I’m even wondering if we should consider the coast instead. Organization-wise, I’d love any tips or feedback on whether we need to book in advance at this time of year, which transport options to prioritize (train, bus, or plane), and of course, any suggestions for stops or routes. Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help us prepare for this amazing trip!

We’re an adventurous couple in our 70s starting to plan around 3 weeks in Thailand in January 2027.

We’re not yet at the nitty-gritty stage, but we really don’t like wasting time on luggage, airports, or long journeys.

So, we’ll probably spend a few days in Bangkok, then head up to Chiang Mai by car at a relaxed pace, and fly back to Bangkok.

Any thoughts on this plan and, most importantly, recommendations for the Bangkok to Chiang Mai route that should take about 5 days?

Nous avons une bonne connaissance de l'Afrique du Nord, mais sur les conseils d'amis nous souhaitons nous "lancer" en Asie du Sud Est. Nous projetons de partir 6 à 7 semaines à partir du 28 octobre 2020. Nos poles d'interets sont -visites -petits trecs -vivre au milieu des habitants. -calme Il faudrait que le circuit tienne compte des conditions climatiques, surtout" pas trop chaud" On aime bien se déplacer en bus ou train . Gros problème....par quel pays débuter?Quel circuit peut-on envisager? Je suis certain que "ce maudit confinement"permettra un échange fructueux Je vous en remercie à l'avance.

Est il possible de faire la visite d'ayutthaya et le temple wat tha sung dans la meme journée? sachant que le temple ferme à 16h.

Encore une fois je sollicite l'aide de ce forum pour la préparation de mon voyage. Je vous remercie par avance pour votre aide!

Nous serons en Thaïlande pour tout le mois de mars 2020, en famille avec un pti bout de 3 ans. Ce voyage s'inscrit dans un voyage de plusieurs mois en Asie, qui nous verra arriver à Bangkok en provenance du Sri Lanka (début mars), et repartir de Krabi (fin mars) pour nous diriger vers Kuala Lumpur et la Malaisie pour le mois d'avril.

Nous voulons consacrer ce mois en Thaïlande (où nous n'avons jamais voyagé) à descendre tout doucement de Bangkok à Krabi en prenant notre temps.

Tout d'abord avez-vous des infos particulières sur le mois de mars en Thaïlande (centre et sud)? Des zones à éviter? De ce que j'ai lu c'est plutôt une bonne période en faisant attention aux fortes chaleurs.

Dans un premier temps le but est de descendre via le train, qui est un moyen de déplacement que l'on apprécie particulièrement, de Bangkok jusqu'à Chumphon en faisant des étapes intermédiaire :

Auriez-vous des conseils? Ou des idées d'autres étapes dans le secteur?

Ensuite de Chumphon, l'idée était de se diriger vers la côte Andaman pour se diriger tout doucement vers Krabi :

Ranong, je ne connais absolument pas ce secteur mais j'ai lu beaucoup de choses qui m'ont donné envie sur cette région et les îles qui s'y trouvent.

Et enfin Krabi

Si nous avons le temps nous rajouterons quelques jours sur une île dans le secteur de Krabi (Ko Lanta, Phi Phi? ) mais je n'ai pas encore creusé la question, donc si vous avez des suggestions c'est avec plaisir ^^

Par contre, il y a tellement à voir que nous devons choisir parmi les endroit que voudrions visiter. Nous allons arriver à Bangkok, se diriger vers Chiang Mai en passant par Lop buri, c’est par la suite que nous hésitons... on descend vers les îles, mais les endroits suivant nous intéressent : Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Phuket, Ko phi phi. Nous voudrions des conseils sur quelles places/îles valent plus la peine dêtre visitées et les moyens de transport pour s’y rendre, sachant de passer de l’Ouest à l’Est peut être long et nous ne voulons pas passer trop de temps sur la route.. merci !! :)

Certains ont-ils des plans à nous donner parce que pour l'instant nous ne trouvons aucun bus qui partent de Trat... On aimerait partir le 23 septembre. Merci

nous allons marier notre fille ainée en mars prochain et nous avons décidé de lui offrir à plusieurs son voyage de noce. Nous n'avons pas le temps ni les compétences pour nous occuper d'un itinéraire en Thaïlande sur 2 ou 3 semaines ni de réserver les hotels (catégorie 3 ou 4 étoile soit 100 -150 euros la nuit) Nous aimerions que le couple découvre le pays avant de se poser sur une ile une semaine. Luxe et volupté 🙂

After a successful first trip in 2025, with the help of forum members, we’d love to return to this amazing cultural melting pot in 2026 for three weeks (2 adults, 2 kids aged 13 and 16).

We’d like to explore new places in the Northeast: fly into Khon Kaen and explore the region—Loei, Nong Khai, perhaps? A detour to the center to visit Sukhothai would be a great addition.

I’ll admit, planning this itinerary is a bit trickier for me since I’m less familiar with these areas and what they have to offer. The distances also seem longer than our previous transfers (BKK-Kanchanaburi-Kaeng Krachan-Sam Roi Yot...).

Do you have any suggestions or hidden gems to explore in the Northeast and Central regions that keep travel time between stops reasonable (3-4 hours)?

The trip I took to Cambodia in January 2025 did me a world of good. I’m now considering Thailand, a destination we never included in our plans because even 15 years ago, people said it was too touristy. Still, I’m thinking about the itinerary below, but I don’t feel up to arranging buses, trains, or guides on my own while I’m there. I’m looking for one or more drivers and have been in touch with an agency, but their offers are just copy-paste group tours that I don’t want. So, if you have any contacts, experiences, or advice, I’d be so grateful if you’d share them with me. Here’s my rough plan: Arrival in Bangkok Ayutthaya (2 nights) Kanchanaburi (2 or 3 nights) Sangkhlaburi/Sai Yok (3 nights) Sukhothai (2 nights) Lampang (I’ve planned 3 nights, but that might be a bit much—it depends on what time I arrive in the city) Chiang Mai Chiang Dao Pai Chiang Rai I was thinking about the Mae Hong Son loop—thoughts? What do you think about staying overnight at the Golden Triangle? When I look online, of course, I can find agencies that organize tours to national parks, etc. I’m retired but in great physical shape. I’d rather go hiking than sit in hot springs with crowds of tourists who’ve all arranged meet-ups. I don’t want to spend a day at an elephant camp, and I don’t want to visit Karen villages. I’m so happy Voyage Forum is back—it helped me plan trips (USA, Canada) a good ten years ago, and I love the quality of the discussions and the forum’s vibe. I’m currently putting together our itinerary for our first trip to Thailand from March 6th to 20th, arriving and departing from Bangkok, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice. I haven’t booked hotels or transfers yet. We’re traveling as a couple (ages 56 and 58). Our goal isn’t to "see it all" but to take our time. We love big cities, visiting museums, architecture, soaking up local life, walking, nature, swimming, and a bit of relaxation. Here’s how I’m envisioning the itinerary:

03/06: Departure 03/07: Arrival in Bangkok, night in Ayutthaya 03/08: Day in Ayutthaya, night in Bangkok 03/09: Exploring Bangkok, night in Bangkok 03/10: Exploring Bangkok, night in Bangkok 03/11: Departure for Ko Chang (flight, minibus, taxi?) 03/12: Ko Chang 03/13: Ko Chang 03/14: Ko Chang 03/15: Departure for Ko Kut 03/16: Ko Kut 03/17: Ko Kut 03/18: Return to Bangkok, night in Bangkok 03/19: Bangkok 03/20: Departure at 1:00 AM

What do you think? Is it possible to add Khao Yai National Park to this itinerary and shorten the beach stay without rushing too much? Open to your comments, suggestions, and great tips—thanks in advance!

My husband and I are planning a trip to Thailand from January 2 to 10. Departure from Brussels on January 1 – arriving in Bangkok at 6:00 AM on January 2. Departure from Bangkok on January 11 at 2:00 AM, arriving in Brussels at 1:25 PM the same day. For professional and personal reasons, we can’t extend the trip.

I don’t plan on just lounging on a beach in Phuket, so with 9 days on the ground, I know it’s short... But having done this before in Hong Kong and Shanghai, I know it’s doable, refreshing, and enjoyable. We did it with the kids and included a 2- or 3-day stay at Disneyland in each city. Basically, we spent 5-6 days in each city.

Anyway, I’m reaching out because I’ve heard and read so many conflicting opinions that my head is spinning.

Following the saying, "don’t bite off more than you can chew," I’m assuming I should keep it simple. So I’m torn between just Bangkok or Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

If I go with the second option, I’m debating whether to head straight to Chiang Mai on the day we arrive (but given the flight times, we’d lose pretty much the whole day) or spend two days in Bangkok first, then go to Chiang Mai for 3-4 days, and return to Bangkok.

je sais que l'issan est assez grand est je ne parle pas de la faire en 16 jours. apres avoir parcouru le forum, parcour en issan... je retiens ce circuit
