Bonjour Je cherche des informations pour voyager sur mesure (auto, taxi ou moto) du nord au sud. On est deux en sac à dos mais avec un budget confortable. J’hésite entre à faire appel à un taxi une voiture avec chauffeur ou louer moi même....? Avez vous des infos svp ?

Nous partons 9j dans le nord du vietnam du 11 au 20 février 2020 avec des enfants de 12 et 9ans et j'aurais voulu des conseils sur le circuit. J'ai bien conscience que ce n'est pas la meilleure période pour visiter le nord : froid et brume. J'avais pensé faire les classiques, sur 9j je vais avoir du mal à sortir des sentiers battus je pense : - 2j hanoi, - 2j baie d'along ; j'hésite à réserver avant de partir....vaut-il mieux que je m'adapte sur place en fonction du temps ? - 1j baie terrestre... - 2j sapa ? au vu de la période, est ce que ça vaut le coup ? je n'ai jamais vu de rizière ni les garçons...on m'a conseillé le topas eco lodge - 1j. montagne des parfums suis preneuse d'idées adaptées à cette saison. autre question : je suppose que la fête du têt sera terminée ?

I couldn’t find any recent posts on this topic, so I thought I’d create a new one. We’ve just started planning our family trip to Vietnam this coming August. We’d like to travel from North to South, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh.

Usually, we rent a car when we arrive and manage on our own. But I get the feeling that in Vietnam, it’s more complicated... It seems like the only option we have is to rent a car with a driver? Is that really the case?

I’m thinking of starting with a cruise in Halong Bay since we arrive on my partner’s birthday, and I wanted a beautiful setting to celebrate it. So, is the option of having a driver wait for 2 days while we’re on the cruise really feasible?

The rest of the itinerary isn’t planned at all yet. I’d love to hear your tips. We’re traveling from August 8th (morning) to the 26th (afternoon).

Bonjour, Nous sommes un couple avec nos 2 filles de 12 et 15 ans et nous serons au vietnam du 14/02 au 01/03. Quelqu'un peut il me conseiller sur l itinéraire en arrivant par Hanoï , sachant que nous voulons faire du Nord au sud avec en incontournable Baie de lan ha ( halong) et la baie terrestre d Halong, au centre Hoi an puis au sud le Delta du Mekong. Enfin nous souhaitons terminer par au moins 3 ou 4 jours de Balnéaire. En février, il fait froid donc certaines agences me conseillent quand meme le nord et d autres non ? Une alternative proposer et Mai Chau à priori ou rester un peu plus dans la campagne de Hoï an dans le centre . Je suis un peu perdue. Merci pour vos conseils.

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

Est-ce quelqu'un peut me dire pourquoi ils manque de franchise à ce point ?

J'ai fait 2 voyages, j'y ai passé plusieurs mois, j'en ai jamais rencontré un seul d'honnête, j'en viens à me demander si ils connaissent ce terme.

Souvent c'est bête. Dernier exemple en date. Je demande à une copine ou plutôt pas en tout cas je ne doit pas être son ami malgré que sa mère me dise qu'elle aime m'avoir en ami si un n° est son Zalo. C'est pas dur de me dire oui ou non ou oui mais je ne m'en sert plus (vrai ou pas) et bien non elle a lu mais pas répondu, sa mère pareil.Elles utilisent les mêmes compte, c'est compliqué de savoir à qui je parle. Elle veux pas m'ajouter sur Zalo mais en même temps elle ne veux pas me mentir donc elle ne réponds pas.

J'ai pris cette exemple car c'est le plus récent mais en gros c'est ça : ne pas répondre, ne pas être honnête pour ne pas blesser. Ça part peut-être d'un bon sentiment mais c'est flagrant qu'ils ne sont pas honnête, ça me blesse encore plus.

Back from Dong Van Big plus: a brand-new highway between Hanoi airport and Tuyen Quang, halfway between Hanoi and Ha Giang. The speed limit is usually 50 km/h, but it still saves time.

In Ha Giang, the Truong Xuan Hotel (Ha Giang Resort) has gone downhill. Stay at the gorgeous guesthouse (varnished wooden bungalows with panoramic terrace and excellent meals) run by Mr. WIN (03 64 86 67 66) in Thôn Tha village, 5 kilometers before Ha Giang. If it's full, try next door at Mr. Cay’s place—also bungalows, but with a less stunning view: 09 79 76 94 67.

Dong Van has become so popular that there are now over 200 hotels and guesthouses (only one existed 5 years ago). I stayed at my usual spot, the Hoang Ngoc, which now has an elevator, but it’s gotten expensive (450,000 VND). Instead, check out one of the two 2-star hotels across the street.

On the other hand, dining options have really improved. The excellent Green Karst (one of the servers, Mr. Hung, is also a French-speaking guide) has two locations—one on the main street and another a bit uphill to the left. Go to the latter.

I revisited Lung Cu, still just as spectacular. There are now small electric trains that take you up to the viewpoint (30,000 VND per person round trip). The Hmong King’s Palace in Sa Phin is still standing strong. Small shops to the left of the staircase—the closest one is run by a descendant of the king, actually a traditional costume chief.

There’s a lovely guesthouse at the top of Ma Pi Leng, run by a super-friendly Hmong guy in a beret (a French legacy) who speaks decent French. The terrace overlooks the Nho Qué River canyon. 250,000 VND for two, breakfast included (dinner is 200,000 VND).

De retour de Hoi an après 18 jours de séjour. Vie normale dans les quartiers viêt, pas du tout dans le centre historique et autour. Nombreux hôtels pour touristes étrangers fermés, restos pareil. De ce que je connais et apprécie, le Co Mai de Didier Corlou ne rouvre que le 1 juillet, Dao Tien, Bazard, Streets, Little Tokyo fermés ; sont ouverts Secret Garden, Good Morning Vietnam, Mix (qui a déménagé au 70 Lê Loi), Ganesh et l'excellent petit jap Samurai Kitchen, où on se régale vraiment (pas de sushi ni sashimi).

Deux belles découvertes à An Bang :

- Un nouvel hôtel super, le Daisy An Bang. 14 chambres dont 2 Famille, resto en terrasse et piscine. Belle plage aménagée à 40 m, assez éloignée de celle de An Bang pour ne pas être trop entouré. En plus, c'est moins cher que l'Aira, car celui-ci est déclaré "Boutique", donc cher alors que le Daisy, bien moins cher, est aussi bien. 43 euros le twin, 48 la double, 65 la triple et 100 la Famille. Pour trouver, tourner à droite au coin de l'Aira, tout droit et c'est au fond de la ruelle, qui arrive sur un T.

- Une pizzeria divine sur la plage, la Luna d'Automno. Très grand choix de pizzas au feu de bois, les meilleures que j'ai mangées depuis que je suis en Asie du SE ; j'ai dégusté une amatriciana et une capretta (avec fromage de chèvre) divines (plus une bière à la pression ayant le même goût qu'une Blanche de Namur) et un service parfait.

Et une autre découverte, passionnante celle-là, la Distillerie d'Indochine, ouverte par 3 jeunes Français en 2018. Ils fabriquent un rhum blanc, le Sampan, d'une telle qualité qu'il a déjà obtenu plusieurs premiers prix internationaux et est exporté dans le monde entier de Paris à Tokyo. Visite guidée très intéressante de 9h à 17h tous les jours sauf lundi : explication détaillée de la fabrication par le technicien français, dégustation au bar de leurs 3 types de rhum et de cocktails ; vous pouvez faire votre propre mélange ; on vous donne en partant une bouteille de 30 cl par personne, rhum blancc, cocktail ou votre propre mélange. Derrière, belle maison avec piscine sur pelouse. 3 chambres au rez-de-chaussée et un grand apartement en étage, avec terrasse vue campagne et mer, grand salon-cuisine ouverte avec alcôve un lit double, une chambre double et une salle de bain. Vous pouvez louer toute la villa (10 personnes max) ou par unité; pas de repas.

De retour du Laos avec un vol sur Saïgon il me restera 3 ,4 ou 5 jours pour faire un tour dans le delta du Mékong . ( Aller retour sur Saïgon ) J'aimerais m'arrêter dans les lieux que vous pensez intéressants et parcourir, de- ci , de-là quand c'est possible, la campagne à vélo, loger si possible chez l'habitant ( "maison d'hôtes" homestays.) voir des marchés etc......Si vous avez un itinéraire à me suggérer des lieux à ne pas manquer et des adresses de homestays j'attends vos conseils. PS: J'utiliserai les transports en commun, bus et taxis...

Un petit retour sur notre séjour à Cat Ba.

Nous avons pris un trajet depuis Hanoï pour 220 kilo Dong/p incluant un premier bus confortable, on nous donne 50cl d'eau et un petit sachet de gâteaux. Une pause est prévue en cours de route où l'on a accès à de la restauration rapide. Ensuite on quitte le bus pour un ferry et sur l'île on reprend un autre bus qui nous dépose devant l'hôtel que l'on souhaite.

Nous avions choisi le full moon party hotel, à 250kD/nuit la chambre double. WC bouchés et karaoké jusqu'à une heure avancée, petit dej inclus (une rondelle de tomate, 1 petit morceau de pastèque, 1 oeuf, et du pain de mie). Après cette nuit merveilleuse ;-p nous avons fuit à Ben Beo au dolphin backpacker hôtel 120 kD/nuit la chambre double petit déjeuner inclus (banh mi avec 2 oeufs+café), la famille est très gentille.

Nous avons fait l'excursion qu'ils proposent à la journée 9h/17h pour 300kD/p. Tour en bateau dans la baie de Lan Ha, kayak avec passage dans des grottes, repas dans le bateau, plongeons/nage vers une petite plage, environ 2 h à monkey island pour gravir le sommet et/ou profiter de la plage et se baigner et retour. Nous avons adoré et trouvé le rapport qualité/prix imbattable.

On a bien aimé le resto Quan Cat Ba au numéro 195 rue 1/4

De Ben Beo nous avons pris le ferry pour Viet Haï 50kD/aller/p, comme nous avons passé la nuit sur place inutile de s'acquitter des 80kD/p pour la baie de Lan Ha. A Viet Haï nous avons loué des vélos pour 2 jours et 2 personnes pour 150kD. Nous avons dormi au rutilant Khanh Ngoc 300D. Beaucoup de touristes à Viet Haï qui font escale avec leur croisière de plusieurs jours. On peut pénétrer dans le parc national pour 80kD. Nous avons été impressionnés par la quantité de papillons, des gros, des petits, différentes couleurs.

Nous ne sommes pas venus à Cat Ba pour faire la fête et sommes parvenus à trouver un coin tranquille à 15min à pied du centre de Cat Ba ville ;)

Hi everyone, We have a chance to stop in Hanoi on our way from Japan back to France. We arrive on Tuesday, May 12th around 2 PM and leave for France on Saturday, May 16th around 10 PM. I’d like to do a 2-day cruise in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay, then either 2 days in Ninh Binh or 1 day. - 12/05: Hanoi - 13/05: cruise - 14/05: end of cruise and head to Tam Coc - 15/05: sightseeing - 16/05: early departure for Hanoi, day in Hanoi, then flight to France at 10 PM We don’t want to be overwhelmed by crowds of tourists and prefer to be on our own.

Hi everyone, we arrive in Hanoi from March 6th to 8th, then head to Ninh Binh from the 8th to 10th. I’d planned to sleep in Halong on the 10th because on the 11th we’re doing an overnight cruise with the Peony. On the 12th, we’re staying in Cat Ba—I’m not sure if we should stay the 13th too? Back to Hanoi to go to Ho Chi Minh City airport for two nights, I think. Then the Mekong Delta, Ben Tre. We’ve booked two nights in Phu Coc to leave on March 19th for Hanoi and fly back to France on the 20th. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but I could really use your help—is going to Cat Ba necessary? We love the nature side, and Ben Tre seems essential. Is going to Phu Coc too much? Please be kind, but if you can give me some guidance, that’d be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

For centuries, until its capture by the Vietnamese in 1407, Quy Nhon was Asia’s busiest port. Marco Polo stopped here on his way back from China to Venice. It was the port of Viraja, capital of the Champa kingdom, which explains the many Cham towers found all over the place, including right in the city center. Today, it’s a lovely beach resort, less crowded than others. There’s a gigantic seaside esplanade lined with alternating gardens and hotel towers, with not a single tree (not on the beach either), except at the café-restaurant-terrace of the 4-star hotel Hoang Yen and another one to the right of it. I was lucky to find a brand-new, spotless little hotel run by a very friendly family, the Ngoc Linh, on a quiet little street just 50 meters from the beach. $12 for a single room and $14 for a double. There’s a terrace restaurant. No bikes, but motorbike rentals are available ($10 per day). 6 Tran Van On 0563 54 66 99 or nearby on the esplanade (19 Xuan Dieu).

That said, it allowed me to indulge my passion for history with the beautiful Cham towers, especially those at Banh It, 20 km north of Quy Nhon on the Mandarin Road (you can see them in the distance as they sit atop a hill, offering a magnificent view of the entire region). Four well-preserved towers (the largest has been very well restored), built in the late 11th to early 12th century. At the foot of the mountain, you’ll find a beautiful 14th-century pagoda and the ruins of Viraja. Right in the middle of the city on Tran Hung Dao, there are also the two beautiful towers of Thap Doi.

J'avais repéré la région de Quy Nhon et de Con Dao, mais vu la période, il me semble que le Sud est plus approprié, c'est bien cela? Je connais déjà Phu Coc et Mui Ne donc je voulais découvrir une autre zone, des suggestions?

Concernant Con Dao, pouvez-vous me donner des infos : - Il me semble qu'on peut y aller par bateau ou avion, est-ce facile d'y aller sans avoir réservé à l'avance? - Est-il facile d'y trouver des logements ? Quel type d'hébergement et pour quel budget ? - Quel est votre avis sur les plages? Sont-elles jolies, propres, calmes, fréquentées, baignade agréable, vagues, snorkeling possible? - A part la plage, comment sont ces îles et quelles sont les activités possibles et avec quels moyens de transport ?

J'arriverai à HCMV le 9 février et pense partir sur une plage vers le 13. L'agitation du Têt sera-t-elle passée? Est-ce encore une période de haute fréquentation des transports et hôtels ?

Je ne dois pas être le premier à poster ce genre de message, mais je m'interroge sur la faisabilité de mon voyage en Asie, prévu (dans l'absolu) du 29 octobre au 25 novembre.

Ma première destination serait le Nord Vietnam (avec Allez/retour depuis Hanoi mais rien n'est fait je n'ai pas encore prix le billet), 1 semaine voire 10 jours à Hanoi, Ha-Long et Sapa. Puis 1 semaine à Siem Reap pour visiter Angkor, puis, à moins d'une proposition bonus, 3/4 jours à Bangkok, puis éventuellement Chiang Mai que je connais déjà et plage en Thailande.

Mon moyen de déplacement principal serait l'avion car je ne veux pas perdre trop de temps en transit. Je sais qu'idéalement il vaut mieux se focaliser sur un seul pays, mais je préfère jouer la carte de la découverte quitte à revenir plus longtemps dans le futur.

Mon objectif est de mêler culture, gastronomie, rencontres, vie nocturne... (pas vraiment boite, plus bars tranquilles où boire une bière et rencontrer des gens)

Qu'en pensez-vous? Vu depuis mon écran d'ordinateur et google map ça me semble possible mais je sais que parfois la réalité peut être toute autre !

Par ailleurs on m'a conseillé de plutôt faire Paris-Bangkok puis Cambodge, puis Vietnam, vous pensez que ce serait plus judicieux? (La problématique est la météo au Nord Vietnam, qui devrait changer début novembre, bien que ce ne soit pas une science exacte)

Hi there, After arriving in Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of March 26, where I think I’ll stay for maybe two days (or more?), we’d like to spend a few days in the Mekong Delta. Is it better to stay in one place (Vinh Long, Cai Be, My Tho, An Binh, etc.) and take boat trips every day, or split our time between two or three spots, which means changing accommodation and moving our luggage around? Of course, agencies offer 3- or 5-day tours from Ho Chi Minh City, but are they really worth it, both financially and in terms of the visits themselves? What’s your experience with this? We’re heading to Vietnam in February as a family (2 adults and 2 kids) for 9 full days, and I was thinking of this itinerary:

Day 1: Hanoi Day 2: Halong Bay (Lan Ha) Day 3: Halong Bay (Lan Ha) Day 4: Hue Day 5: Danang Day 6: Danang Day 7: Hoi An Day 8: Hoi An/My Son Day 9: Hanoi

After reading almost all the discussions about Vietnam, I don’t see anything about transportation options for getting from Hue to Danang, then from Danang to Hoi An. Any ideas (train, bus)? From the map, it looks like Danang is close to Hoi An—easily accessible by taxi, right?

Also, after reading lots of comments and websites, I’ve noticed that Danang, aside from being a big developing city, seems to be more about hotels for relaxing on the beach—very laid-back, isn’t it? Not really a place to visit like Hanoi or Hoi An.

Generally speaking, if you have any recommendations for the itinerary or tips, I’d love to hear them.

I’m planning and organizing a wonderful trip to Vietnam from mid-March to mid-April 2026, traveling independently for a month with my wife to enjoy her new retirement. Here’s a summary of our itinerary: We arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of Wednesday, March 18, and depart from Hanoi on the evening of Thursday, April 16. First, I’d like to head to Ho Chi Minh City because the temperatures are high in that region in mid-March. After that, we’ll visit Phu Quoc Island and then the Mekong Delta. We’ll return to Ho Chi Minh City and take a flight to Hue for 2 days, then Tam Coc / Ninh Binh (2-3 days), and Cat Ba Island with a visit to Lan Ha Bay (4 days). We’ll spend a few days in Hanoi, followed by 3-4 days in Sapa with some hikes, and then the Ha Giang loop (4 days). (I’m a motorcyclist—I ride a BMW trail bike and have taken care of renewing my international license.) We’re considering renting a motorcycle or bicycles when needed, except in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The weather in northern Vietnam in early April should theoretically be decent. Finally, we’ll return to Hanoi before heading back to Paris and the Pays de la Loire. Unfortunately, I’m skipping Angkor in Cambodia. I’d like to have a guide for 1 or 2 days in Sapa (which typical agency would you recommend?), and I’m wondering if I should book an agency for the 4 days in Ha Giang. I prefer my independence and don’t really like the "group" aspect of agencies. I’ll rent a 150cc motorcycle, and my wife will ride with me. Other questions: What are some good, typical accommodations to book in the places we’ve identified? Thanks for any info. Did I forget anything, or should we adjust our itinerary? I'd love to get some suggestions for central Vietnam in February for seniors. We'd like to stay in one place, near a beach, and visit the surrounding areas. Then after a month, we'd head to the south of the country.
