Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

Nous sommes un peu stressé pcq on vient de prendre un bus de Krabi à Hua Hin ou nous étions censé arriver à 2h du mat. On avait réservé un taxi qui devait alors nous conduire à une stayhome à sam roi yot. Mais le bus a pris 2h de retard et nous a déposé sur une grand route à Hua Hin alors que le taxi nous attendait à la gare routière. Ça a été galère pour le récupérer. Suite à un premier message posté en décembre et vos précieux avis et conseils (notamment Jungletroll ! merci), j'ai revu notre itinéraire pour le simplifier un peu car premier voyage en Asie...

Je pense également laisser tomber l'idée de louer une voiture de location 🤪 mais plutôt voyager avec un chauffeur privé (sauf Koh Phanga) pour plus de confort et sécurité .... Donc la question est comment organiser cela ? Par une agence ? Connaissez vous Evaneos que je viens de découvrir et qui semble organiser tout sur mesure avec des agents sur place... Je ne me sens pas vraiment capable de tout organiser par moi même et je n'aime pas partir à l'aventure...

Alors voici le nouvel itinéraire prévu sur janvier / février 2021 (avec des dates à la limite "décalable" d'une semaine plus tôt) - Samedi 16/01 : Vol Lyon Dubai (Emirates) - Dimanche 17 et lundi 18/01 : escale Dubai puis vol le 18/01 au soir - Mardi 19/01 : Arrivée aéroport Bangkok le matin - Transfert à Kanchanaburi. au passage : Wat Tham Suea. Fin de journée découverte de la ville et repos - Mercredi 20/01 : Départ pour Sai Yok, arrêt au viaduc de Wang Pho, grotte de Krasae (?) et si possible installation au Krit House au pied de Sai Yok Hai et Lek Waterfal. Fin de journée sur place Jeudi 21/01 : matin Hin Bad Hot Spring ? et route vers Erawan OU monter jusqu'à Sangkhla Buri puis retour à Erawan (mais beaucoup de route il me semble) Vendredi 22/01 : Visite des cascades Erawan le matin et route vers Amphawa pour 2 nuits (si possible installation au bord du Mae Klong pas trop loin du marché flottant. Samedi 23/01 : marché sur les rails de Mae Klong le matin et après-midi, et soirée sur Amphawa Dimanche 24/01 : Départ en direction de Prachuap KK. 3 jours pour visiter cette partie : l'objectif est de prendre un bateau de Chumpon à Koh Phanga le mercredi 27/01 (possiblité via Lomprayah d'un catamaran de Tung Makham à Koh Phanga pour 30 €/pers environ) Sur cette côte, nous voudrions visiter : Sam Roi Yot ( Bang Pu, Grotte de Phraya Nakhon...) , Prachuap KK (Khan Kra Dai Cave, Ao Manao Bay Beach et les singes langurs), Bang Saphan : Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat...

Arrivée mercredi 27/01 à Koh Phanga pour 4 nuits / pas encore regardé ce que nous pouvons organiser sur l'île mais un peu de farniente... jeudi 28 - vendredi 29 et samedi 30/01 : Koh Phangan...Bon je viens de voir qu'il y a une full moon party le 28/01/21 alors que c'est pas du tout ce qui nous intéresse mais je suppose que c'est pas trop génant pour une soirée...

Dimanche 31/01 - Transfert sur Surat Thani et Phang Nga / nuit directement sur ce secteur pour faire une excursion privée dans la baie le lendemain assez tôt pour éviter la foule ! Donc lundi 01/02 : baie de Phang na et installation en fin de journée sur Krabi / Ao Nang ou ailleurs... Installation pour 5 nuits : du mardi au vendredi, visite du secteur Samedi 06/02 : Transfert pour l'aeroport de Phuket et vol retour

Voilà, voilà, en gros avec certains endroits plus détaillés que d'autres en fonction de mes recherches.... La question se pose sur la fin du séjour, après Koh Phangan : chauffeur ou location de voiture car moins de route donc peut-être faisable... D'autre part, comment ça se passe avec un chauffeur privé ? Est-il en mesure de nous emmener voir des endroits auxquels nous n'avons pas forcément connaissance ? Sans être vraiment un guide, va-t-il quand même être en mesure de nous donner quelques infos essentiels ? Nous n'avons pas du tout l'habitude de ce mode de déplacement et avons peu de connaissance sur la culture et les habitudes de la Thailande (mis à part les mises en garde sur la façon de conduire, lol !)

Avez-vous des adresses à nous indiquer qui pourrait nous organiser cet itinéraire ? : je voudrais juste réserver les vols internationaux, voire les hébergements moi-même, mais c'est la partie, tranferts, déplacements, visite qui me posent énormément d'interrogation..

Hey everyone, I’m over in East Borneo in mid-July. I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple). Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).

Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees. Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands. Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way). Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan. Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide). Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre. Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island. Day 10 – Head to Semporna. Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai. Day 15 – Bohey Dulang. Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.

I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous. I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing. I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture. But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary. If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.

Bonjour à tous, Après 2 séjours de 5 semaines chacun en Thaïlande, l'envie de retourner en Asie nous démange... Nous avons pour projet de partir 3 mois en avril, mai et juin avec nos deux enfants qui auront 6 ans et 3 ans. C'est encore un "projet" et nous bloquons vraiment sur l'itinéraire (qui me parait essentiel pour dessiner ce projet).

Pensez-vous que ce soit simple de faire Philippines > Malaisie > Indonésie ? (ordre le plus logique par rapport aux saisons)

Pensez-vous qu'une escale en nouvelle Calédonie ou Polynésie française au cours du voyage puisse être à envisager ?

Est-ce que l'ordre des pays vous parait le plus simple?

Plus les mois passent, plus je commence à me faire à l'idée qu'il y aura décidément un avant et un après pour ce pays que nous aimons tous. J'avoue humblement que je suis passé d'optimiste à pessimiste.

Aujourd'hui le gouvernement Thaï change les règles, et pour combien de temps

Nous savons maintenant avec certitude que ce sera le parcours du combattant pour y retourner cette année , sans parler du nerf de la guerre ce coût financier qui se dessine . (Assurance , quarantaine, test, bulle j'en passe etc ... )

Vais-je accepter payer une assurance la peau des fesses pour rester enfermé 14 jours dans un hôtel à 64€ par nuit. Ensuite on ne sait pas à quelle sauce on nous mettra sur des rails.

Suis-je le seul à penser cela ?

Enfermé depuis Mars , j'ai vraiment pas envie de rester en France cet hiver . ...

Quand vous désirez vous déplacer dans Bangkok, que ce soit pour visiter ou pour des rendez vous professionnels, vous allez devoir faire face à de nombreuses contraintes et dangers.

- Pour commencer, les distances et la chaleur : les distances entre deux rues ou deux sites peuvent sembler minimes sur un plan mais sont parfois gigantesques dans la mégapole siamoise. Sans parler de la cohue de certaines rues ou encore des espaces non ombragés. De quoi arriver en nage et exténué à votre destination.

- Ensuite il y a le problème des arnaques : vous optez pour un tuktuk ou un taxi et bonjou r la galère si vous tombez sur un chauffeur peu honnête qui vous balade, ne met pas le compteur et demande un prix excessif. Sans parler des embouteillages qui sont légions et qui vous font perdre un temps considérable.

- Nous avons également les motos taxis : Personnellement je ne les prends qu’en dernier recours, j’ai serré les fesses plus d’une fois. Vous êtes à la merci d’un chauffeur qui prend souvent des risques inconsidérés et vous êtes le seul à ne pas porter de casque. Notez également que nombre de compagnies d’assurances ne vous prennent pas en charge, en cas d’accident, dès lors que vous étiez passager d’une moto taxi.

Alors, dans la mesure du possible, pourquoi ne pas opter pour un déplacement via la BTS de Bangkok ? Pas d’embouteillage, prix affichés, espaces conditionnés, propreté et sécurité, de nombreuses rames, des boutiques et nombre de correspondances pour vous mener dans les principaux sites de la mégapole. D’ailleurs, à ce propos, si vous connaissez des lieux intéressants situés à proximité d’une station de BTS, n’hésitez pas à partager l’information en commentaire.

I’m looking for a beach spot within 3 hours max of Bangkok for the end of my trip (January). I know full well I won’t find that postcard-perfect vibe of the more remote islands! But I don’t have a choice. If you’ve got any ideas... no high-rises, obviously not Pattaya, somewhere quiet, swimming possible, a hotel right on the beach (and not too dirty, the beach itself!) I’ve looked at hotels around Ko Samet or, across from it, on the mainland. I spotted the Bann Pae Cabana. But nothing really exciting on either side. New ideas welcome! 🙂

Hi, Does anyone know if it's still advised against traveling to Chanthaburi, Trat, Ko Chang, and Ko Kood? On thailande.gouv, they recommend staying more than 10 km away from the borders with Cambodia. I don’t know if that’s a good idea. But on TripAdvisor, it seems to be discouraged.

Il y a beaucoup de questions sur les prix des taxis , mais j'aimerais des renseignements sur la durée des trajets. 1. du Lamphu Tree Hotel à l'aéroport Don Muang. Air Asia nous demande d'y être 3h avant (??) pour un vol un samedi à 10h55. On devrait donc y être vers 8h. Rome2rio annonce 20 min de trajet. Au vu des embouteillages de Bangkok j'ai un doute... 2. du Lamphu Tree Hotel pour Suvannabhumi un vendredi matin, pour un vol international à 13h, donc je pense être à l'aéroport vers 10h. Il nous serait aussi possible de prendre un taxi jusqu'à la City line. C'est juste pour avoir les éléments de choix le moment venu.

Autre petite question: les infos du post https://voyageforum.com/discussion/thailande-bien-prendre-taxi-arrivee-bangkok-d4314049/ datant de 2011 sur le taxi quand on arrive à Suvannabhumi sont elles toujours d'actualité? J'ai suivi ces indications lors d'un séjour en 2012, mais les années ont passé, et l'organisation pourrait avoir changé. Merci d'avance.

Does anyone know of a private transfer or taxi company that organizes transfers from the Sukhothai area to Chiang Mai? Our routes are Sukhothai-Lampang, Lampang-Chom Thong, and Chom Thong-Chiang Mai. My searches on Google Maps, 12Go, and others haven’t turned up much...

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

There are four of us, and we’re not traveling light, so a minibus isn’t an option. ;-)

During my trip to Thailand, I’ll be spending 2 nights at Tonsai Beach, near Ao Nang Beach, close to Krabi. Tonsai Beach is only accessible by boat, so I was wondering where I could safely leave my car at Ao Nang Beach for 48 hours? Alternatively, at Ao Nam Mao Beach (on the other side), if there are shuttles to Tonsai Beach.

I’m spending a few days in Singapore, which I love. I was thinking about maybe heading to Tioman, but it’s a real hassle with the bus and ferry times—plus, you pretty much have to stay overnight in Mersing for safety. I also looked into Bintan, which seems pretty nice. You need a visa since it’s in Indonesia, and it’s a big, beautiful island. There’s even a Club Med, so it must be a decent spot. Tioman looks stunning in videos, but yeah… I’m still going back and forth on this one!

Nous avons pris nos billets pour Singapour en août 2020 avec Lufthansa (pas l'affaire du siècle mais c'était dans nos prix et suis bien débarrassée de cette corvée).

Nous resterons donc 19 jours sur place.

Nous voulons visiter Singapour, voir la faune dans le Sarawak et séjourner dans 1 île sur la côte malaisienne pour faire de la plongée (nous avons exclu Sipidan et Mabul pour des raisons de coût et de sécurité même si la zone semble calme). Seul problème concernant notre arrivée et départ de Singapour, les vols Air Asia ont l'air bien plus onéreux que de Kuala Lumpur 😠 et du coup, aller dans les Perhentians après 1 séjour à Singapour ou Kuching revient relativement cher, en tout cas plus cher que d'aller sur Tioman en bus de Singapour puis en partant de Johor Bahru pour gagner Kuching. Néanmoins, je consulte les prix pour août 2020 sur le site d'Air Asia donc peut-être que les prix peuvent encore évoluer à la baisse ?

Voici donc le prévisionnel de notre itinéraire :

1-3 SIngapour 4 Singapour - Trajet Tioman en bus 5-10 Tioman 11 Trajet Johor Bahru - Kuching 12- 16 Kuching 17 Kuching-Singapour 18-19 Singapour

Je suis un peu déçue de zapper les Perhentians mais Tioman a l'air chouette aussi et peut-être plus diversifiée au niveau des activités. Les critiques d'hôtels sont aussi moins désastreuses que sur les Perhentians ... Sauf que le risque de se faire bouffer par les puces de sable m'angoisse un peu. Ma fille a la peau ultra sensible donc cela pourrait sûrement transformer le séjour en cauchemar 🤪 Et étant allergique aux piqûres de moustiques, aux guêpes etc... je la sens bien partie pour réagir à ces bêbêtes. Bref, pour évacuer ce pb, y -aurait-il moyen d'intégrer les Perhentians sans passer trop de temps dans les transports et sans que cela nous revienne trop cher ? 😊

Je suis aussi un peu embêtée de commencer par le balnéaire mais les prix dans ce sens sont bien moins chers ... Bref s'il y a 1 configuration à laquelle je n'ai pas pensé pour intégrer les Perhenthians en fin de séjour sans dépenser 1 fortune, ce serait le top 😏 Sinon, il faudra que je me penche sérieusement sur le pb des puces de sable ... 🏴‍☠️

I'm "finalizing" a trip with my adventurous family (wife + 3 kids aged 16, 14, and 8) for this Easter break in Thailand (we'll be there from 04/19 to 05/01).

I'm going through the site and wanted to thank you all for the tips and insights you share on the forum. They're really valuable. But boy, it's tough to sketch out an itinerary

Of course, my backpacking route might be debatable, but I'm trying to target this path to get a first taste of the country's different "facets" and keep everyone in the family happy 😛

For this first trip, we're sticking to the classics and planning to explore a different side of the Land of Smiles in the future:

- arrival in BKK at 4 PM on 04/19 ==> leaving the same day at 7 PM for Chiang Mai (I "hesitated" with the 5:30 PM flight but was worried we wouldn't have enough time to switch from British AW to Thai Airways + airport fees + baggage + customs, etc. )

- from 04/20 to 04/23 ==> Chiang Mai with the main highlights (we've picked: Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, elephant sanctuary, Doi Inthanon, the old city, Wat Chedi, Wat Phra Singh).

==> For the elephant sanctuary: any recommendations? Morning or afternoon visit?

==> It might seem ambitious, but we're considering a day trip to Chiang Rai—though it's not a must. Yes, we know it means ~6 hours of travel in one day.

- direct flight on the morning of 04/24 to Krabi ==> Railay - Phang Nga ==> this part isn't finalized yet (we won't stay in Krabi).

For those who've been there, which part of the south would be best weather-wise during this period?

We'd stay in the south until 04/28 and take a 8 PM flight to BKK.

- BKK on 04/29, 04/30, and part of 05/01 before our flight to London at 11 PM.

We'll hit the must-see/classic spots there.

If you have time to share some insights, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi, Flight from Phu Quoc to Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur with a self-transfer layover of 2H10. No terminal change, but you’ll need to collect your carry-on luggage, recheck in for the second flight (same airline, AirAsia), go through customs and security... I’m not familiar with this airport, which I’ve read is quite large. For those who’ve done this before—is the layover time enough? Thanks for your reply.

Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

Dans sa préparation de réouverture du pays aux étrangers, la quarantaine sera obligatoire pour tous les étrangers sans exception, au vu de la contamination mondiale galopante, le gouvernement Thaï craint une 2eme vague, de plus les fameuses bulles touristique sont renvoyées pour la fin de l'année. Si çà continue comme ça il faudra faire une croix pour 2020 pour un voyage en Thaïlande.

bonjour a tous J ai envoyé un coli de bangkok vers la france le 17 mars, juste avant de sauter dans un avion vers l europe (trop de bagages!). A ce jour il n est toujours pas arrivé!!! J ai envoyé une réclamation a la poste thailandaise, il m ont répondu trés courtoisement, qu ils avaient bien recu ma réclamation! depuis plus rien malgres quelques courrier de relance. D autres voyageurs sont ils dans le meme cas? si oui quelqu un a t il une solution pour ce genre de cas? Merci
