Mandatory Insurance Imposed by Kenya for ETA Applications
Hello,
To read:
📋 Yes, travel insurance is now mandatory in the ETA application. Since October 6, 2026, the official Kenyan ETA portal directly includes a step to subscribe to mandatory government travel insurance for travelers required to obtain an ETA, even if you already have your own medical and repatriation insurance. This insurance adds an official extra cost of $44 plus payment fees of $8, totaling $52 on top of the ETA. The ETA application cannot be completed without paying for this insurance on the portal.
In the end, Kenya followed the Tanzanian "model".....!!
One more piece of good news.... Regards.

Visiting Volcanoes National Park, gorillas, and Diane Fossey tomb without a vehicle
hi there
I’m reaching out because I don’t understand how Volcanoes National Park works. I looked at booking for the gorillas, but there’s just the price listed, and the same goes for the Diane Fossey tomb.
So I contacted a hotel in Kinigi, and they told me that for the gorillas, you need a car to get to the park headquarters, and then once you know your group, you need to get from the headquarters to the trekking start point?? Do you confirm this? Is that really how it works? They say the hotel has a driver and it would cost 100 DOLLARS!! I just found out that on top of the permit, there are other fees??? Uhh… Are there other options, knowing I don’t want to rent a 4x4 since I’m traveling alone?
And if I don’t get the gorilla permit but just want to visit the Diane Fossey tomb, is it the same issue? From Kinigi, do you need a 4x4? How far is the tomb from the headquarters? Is it a hike you can do alone OR DO YOU NEED A GUIDE, ON FOOT? By car?? If someone could explain everything to me… and is the DF Foundation different??
If I decide to go through an agency, is it possible in Musanze (which would save me trips) or is it mandatory to go through Kigali? Thanks so much for your help… Best regards

Issue with Tanzania visa application website
Hi,
We're heading to Zanzibar in 6 weeks.
I've been stuck for several days on the website https://visa.immigration.go.tz/ because we need to specify whether we're employed or self-employed, but the "employer" and "profession" fields are grayed out. It's a roadblock—I can't move on to the next step.
I thought it might be a temporary bug, but that's not the case.
I've tried filling out the form on my computer using two different browsers, on my phone, but I keep getting stuck at the same step.
I emailed their contact address but haven't heard back.
Has this happened to any of you?
I don't know how to resolve this issue, especially to get our visas before our departure.
Thanks for your help.

EasyJet in Nice: Fight Over Refusal to Pay Baggage Fee
The couple involved refused to pay the extra fee demanded by the flight coordination company. Things quickly escalated. It got so bad that the man ended up physically fighting with an airport agent, even rolling on the ground.
https://www.nicematin.com/faits-divers/il-refuse-de-payer-un-supplement-bagages-le-litige-se-termine-en-bagarre-a-l-aeroport-de-nice-999711
If you can’t afford to pay for your luggage, don’t travel 😡. What’s next? Are they gonna hit the tour guide in Mykonos because the price of the tour went up without warning 🤪?
A heads-up to all EasyJet travelers: baggage checks are more strict than ever!

Don't take Kenya Airways
It's really simple and without any reservation—I wouldn’t recommend Kenya Airways.
I travel about three times a year and have been doing so for 23 years, and I’ve never said that about an airline before.
Sure, they serve food all the time, but it’s not even good. The planes themselves are fine.
As for the rest, here are the issues:
Just to be clear, everything that happened to me also happened to everyone I spoke with on various Kenya Airways flights.
1. Booked 12 flights with decent schedules. In the end, nearly all of them were changed, resulting in sleepless nights, arrivals in the middle of the night, or arrivals 24 hours later than originally planned.
2. Luggage arrived 24 hours late.
3. Flights canceled and delayed mid-trip. So, hours spent in transit zones.
They’re very nice and try to fix the problems, but you end up wasting so much time struggling.
For example, getting to the hotel they provide can be a huge hassle, and it often isn’t even valid in the end. You might even risk missing your flight.
Tips for preparing a trip to Tanzania
Hi everyone!
My mom (75 years old, in great shape!) and I (40) are planning a trip to Tanzania between October 26th and November 16th (duration: 2 to 3 weeks). Yes, it’s a bit short notice to organize, but we don’t really have a choice :)
Here’s the rough idea:
Exploring the country on the go, with a touch of spontaneity and local encounters (not a 100% fixed itinerary). Personally, I’m used to total improvisation when traveling solo, but in this case, I’d prefer to be a bit more informed/structured.
Potentially climbing Kilimanjaro (for me) before ending with a few relaxing days in Zanzibar.
Maybe renting a 4x4 to stay independent?
No luxury requirements: we prioritize authenticity over comfort (as long as it’s at least clean). We’re not opposed to camping either if it lets us do some cool stuff! Not a huge budget, but this time we’re not completely broke either :)
I’m reaching out to you here for:
Ideas for off-the-beaten-path itineraries.
Advice on whether a guide is necessary in certain places or recommendations for reliable and friendly local contacts/tour operators.
If you have any recommendations, experiences, or great tips, we’re all ears! Thanks in advance for your advice and kindness.
See you soon.

Request for info on Egypt multiple-entry visa (non-E-visa/non-EU citizen)
Hi everyone,
Four questions: - What is the official website of the Egyptian Embassy in France? - What is the official procedure for obtaining a multiple-entry visa (non-E-visa for French citizens) for someone residing in France who is not an EU citizen (on the list of countries required to obtain a visa before departure)? Is the Marseille Consulate authorized to handle this? - Finally, what’s the cost and processing time? 79 € or more?
Thanks in advance

Are there any accessible showers at Charles de Gaulle Airport?
Hi everyone,
I’m arriving on a long trip at Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2 and would love to take a shower. I’ve already contacted the airport hotels, but they only offer day rates starting at 10 AM, and I land at 5:30 AM... The Yotel capsules are only accessible if you have a ticket for Terminal 2E. And airline lounges without a loyalty program charge at least **115 €** for access that includes a shower 😩. Is there another option? Thanks for your help!
All Tanzanian Airlines Banned
Hi,
A pretty serious issue has come up in the past few weeks for traveling to Tanzania.
What’s the deal with airlines in Tanzania? https://www.capital.fr/economie-politique/ce-pays-est-tres-touristique-mais-ses-compagnies-aeriennes-sont-placees-sur-liste-noire-par-l-europe-1515325 https://www.charentelibre.fr/tourisme/la-tanzanie-sur-liste-noire-de-l-europe-des-vols-interieurs-a-haut-risque-pour-100-000-touristes-francais-25002566.php
Basically, all airlines have been blacklisted because they don’t meet European safety standards. They’re banned from flying in Europe but continue operating in Tanzania. The main issue is that travel agencies’ civil liability no longer applies to blacklisted airlines. So we can’t allow clients to fly with these carriers. Of course, there’s huge pressure from European agencies, which are forced to disrupt their plans or even cancel trips because of this. Personally, I’ve got a trip planned for February 2026 to the southern parks in Tanzania, so I’ll be keeping an eye on how this develops. Do any of you have updates? Thanks!

Violent anti-government protests and repression in Kenya
Hi everyone planning to travel to Kenya with (or without) kids,
Just so you know:
This week, extremely violent protests, met with live ammunition repression, have resulted in many casualties and hundreds of injuries across several Kenyan cities. There’s also been widespread destruction, fires, and looting accompanying these violent scenes...

Ban on using foreign currencies for payments in Tanzania
Hi,
This is new—just announced!:
The Tanzanian government has recently implemented a new regulation banning the use of foreign currencies for domestic transactions. The Bank of Tanzania issued a notice requiring all local payments to be made exclusively in Tanzanian shillings (TZS).

Passport nearing expiration - Rwanda
Hi,
My passport is valid until February 2026.
I’d like to book a flight to Rwanda for September, but they require a passport valid for 6 months after entry—which mine won’t be.
It takes me a month and a half to get a new passport, and I’d like to buy my ticket now with my current passport.
What’s the solution?
Thanks for your help!

Where to watch rugby (Top 14) in Kigali?
Hi there,
It’s been 3 years since I was last there, so I don’t have any recent references. Apparently, the French Canal+ subscription—and MyCanal—won’t work in Rwanda 😡 (whereas in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and I think—but not sure—in Kenya or Tanzania, there’s no issue 🤪).
I’ll be there during the 12th and 13th matchdays of the championship, but I have no idea where in the city (and especially which broadcaster?) to go.
Back in the day, Canal+ Rwanda mostly showed (exclusively?!?! 🤨) European football, basketball, and Formula 1. TV5 also broadcasted a Ligue 1 match live. But what about rugby?
Worst-case scenario, how can I get around this with a simple VPN?
Thanks in advance!

Burundi's Awakening in 2021, and What Comes Next?
A massive explosion sets things off... then around 5:30 PM, a huge, coordinated crowd floods the streets of Bujumbura—and the rest of the country—growing by the minute and surging through the main arteries in deafening noise. Backed by every kind of vehicle—motorized or not—pedestrians, bikes, Bajaj, Volkswagens, and Toyota Coasters unite to raise their voices with blaring horns that could wake a nearby ancestor or the Supreme Guide.
The police and all law enforcement in the country—military included—are on high alert but haven’t intervened yet, keeping a very close eye on how the situation develops!
Still at work when RFI and France24 send me their "urgent" Burundi alerts, a full 90 minutes after the reliable outlet "Iwacu Burundi" broke the news. My trusty wall calendar and today’s date stamp confirm it’s March 23, 2019, backed up by my phone. Worried, I think to myself, *Oh no, here we go again in this tiny Central African country... But my God, why???*
