6-day road trip in southern and western Turkey: our experience
Hi everyone,
At the end of October 2024, we were lucky enough to spend a little over a week in Turkey—heading to Antalya. We then set off on a 6-day road trip exploring southern and western Turkey! Since planning a trip isn’t always easy, we’re sharing our itinerary and feedback on the different places we visited.
With a few photos, we hope to wow you 😎!
Here’s our loop itinerary starting from Antalya (a packed schedule, but it let us see so much):
Day 1 - Antalya (Kaleiçi, the historic center of Antalya) and Lara Beach
Day 2 - The Lycian site of Myra and the port of Kaş
Day 3 - The Turquoise Coast: Kaputaş Beach, the beach and dunes of Patara, the Saklıkent Canyon, the “ghost village” of Kayaköy, the ruins of Telmessos, and the Tomb of Amyntas
Day 4 - The Iztuzu Beach and the village of Şirince
Day 5 - The ancient city of Ephesus and the rural village of Birgi
Day 6 - Pamukkale and Hierapolis, then the seaside resort of Side before returning to Antalya (Day 7 in the morning).

Cappadocia itinerary: where to start?

We’re planning (two people in their early sixties!) a trip to Cappadocia next April for 9 days on site, and I need your help.
We land in Ankara. We’re planning 1 day in the capital, then taking a bus to Göreme. I’ve read that Göreme is very touristy and that it’s better to stay in Urgup (or elsewhere). What do you think?
From there, I’m not really sure how to organize our sightseeing "circuit" to avoid too much back-and-forth and keep it coherent… and that’s where I could use your help! We enjoy nature but also cities, a bit of hiking, and discovering unusual spots. Is it necessary to rent a car for more flexibility, or are public transport options doable without losing too much time?
Final question: Is 6 or 7 days in Cappadocia too long? If so, what would you recommend nearby without spending hours on a bus? We prefer seeing less but better, and without rushing too much. Thanks so much, and if you have any great budget-friendly tips, don’t hesitate!! Thanks.

From France to Mecca by Bike

Hi everyone,
This thread is to echo some posts I’ve read on this forum while researching a potential bike trip from Annecy to Mecca. I came across several discussions where members mentioned being very interested in cycling to the holy city.
So, God willing, I plan to attempt this journey from January to June next year. The idea is to head to Turkey first, then assess the most reasonable routes based on the geopolitical situation around Palestine and as far as Iraq. Since the Turkish-Syrian border is closed, the only remaining (and I mean *only* remaining) overland option would be to go through Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq, then Jordan, and finally Saudi Arabia.
That’s the first major challenge of this project. The second is timing. Due to the schedule, I’ll be starting in the middle of winter across Europe and finishing in the peak of summer in Saudi Arabia. If I’d had a choice, I’d have waited a good dozen years—but well, twelve years...
I won’t go into too much detail about the planned route in this post, but here are the broad strokes already set: Annecy to Istanbul. The rest is a bit too far ahead to map out properly. Crossing the Italian border via the Montgenèvre Pass. Straight through northern Italy as quickly as possible (not necessarily very pleasant) to reach Ljubljana. The fastest route through Croatia to spend as much time as possible in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Serbia via the Sandžak region. It crosses the Pešter plateau, which intimidates me at this time of year—its nickname, the "Siberia of the Balkans," says it all... Then Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey.
I’m open to any advice on this itinerary. The choice was made to pass through as many Muslim-majority regions as possible. In the middle of winter in the Balkans, I don’t feel mentally up to bivouacking alone in that climate. So, I’ll try to find accommodations in mosques or even with locals as much as possible.
That’s the project in a nutshell. The big catch—some of you may have already noticed—is that I’m doing this solo. Yet, this is strongly discouraged by our Prophet—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So, I invite anyone interested in joining this project, whether closely or from afar, to reach out and contact me. Any contribution is welcome, whether it’s company for the whole journey (one can always hope!) or just part of it. Advice, contact suggestions, places to stay, and information about Hajj or Umrah are also appreciated.

bonjour, juste pour rapporter la mauvaise impression que m'as fait l'agence go-voyage ;
j'ai reservé 2 billets pour Istanbul en juin 2020 avec eux , hier il m'ont avertis que le vol était annulé, ce matin le 29/08 ( nous devions partir le 4/09), j'ai donc demandé un remboursement , j'avais souscris une assurance, et j'ai eu la surprise de m'entendre dire qu'il gardaient 75€ de frais de dossier, et que le remboursement interviendrait dans les 3 mois !
il vaut mieux passer directement par la Turkish airline a Genéve , ils sont moins cher, joignable, et délivre des tickets par telephone, et rembourse intégralement en cas d'annulation, sérieux , quoi !
si qq , à besoin des coordonnées , je les donne sans problème , j 'habites vers Geneve , mais j'imagine que la Turkish a Paris , ça marche aussi , en tout cas éviter ces gangsters de go voyage...

J’aurais des questions concernant un vol avec escale que j’ai pris avec le compagnie Turkish Airlanes pour Antalya.
Je prend mon vol au départ de Paris pour faire un escale à Istanbul et arriver à antalya cependant c’est la même compagnie pour tout le long de mon voyage mais je ne sais pas si il faut que je passe de nouveau un contrôle (controle des bagages cabines etc) à mon arrivée à Istanbul pour prendre mon autre avion à Antalya sachant que mon vol a un escale de 1h20.
