Hi everyone,

I’m going to Amsterdam alone for 5 days. I’d like to know if, as a disabled person with a French CMI card, I can get free entry to museums (I’m planning to visit 4). If not, would you recommend the city card? I won’t be using public transport but will get around on foot or by taxi.

I’m also thinking of visiting Haarlem and the Frans Hals Museum. I’ll take the train.

Hi there, I’m planning a family trip to the Netherlands and I’m looking for a good base to visit Amsterdam for the day. The idea is to avoid staying in Amsterdam (to keep costs down) and to be able to get there by train/tram/bus "quickly" (less than an hour). Any neighborhoods or towns you’d recommend? Otherwise, I’ve spotted a youth hostel in the Amsterdam Oost district. Any thoughts on that area?

We’ll be traveling by train from France. I’m also considering renting a car to make it easier to visit places with the kids and to have the flexibility to go to spots without worrying about transport. Where would you suggest staying to easily explore the area? If I rent an electric car, are charging stations easy to find?

Here’s our itinerary: 3 nights in Rotterdam – 5 nights to be decided – 2 nights in Amsterdam (or another nearby spot)

Hi, We're taking the train between Brussels - Rotterdam - Amsterdam, likely an Eurocity. I'm wondering if there's a limit on luggage (number of suitcases and size). Another question: on the Rotterdam -> Brussels route, it seems there aren't any trains on Saturday afternoons. Do trains run frequently on Saturdays and maybe Sundays in the Netherlands? The Netherlands is one of the countries that hasn’t officially taken a position on accepting French ID cards with extended validity (+5 years). However, it seems to be tolerated, and it’s recommended to carry the explanatory notice about the law that extended the validity of ID cards—especially in case of a police check during your stay in the Netherlands. The main concern seems to be about legal status in the country. Air France (apparently) indicates that boarding is possible. Has anyone had experience traveling by plane under these conditions, and can someone confirm whether it’s possible to visit the Netherlands (by plane with Air France) with an expired French ID card (based on the date printed on it) but with validity extended by 5 years? It’s hard to get a definitive answer, which is why I’m asking fellow travelers for their experiences :) Thanks in advance for your feedback! Audrey

I wanted to share my experience from a trip to Amsterdam. Spring is coming, and it’s one of my favorite destinations for this season, especially with the Keukenhof in bloom.

There are so many museums to visit and places to see, like Dam Square, the Royal Palace, Museum Square, the Red Light District... Some spots, like the Anne Frank House, require reservations. You can also take walks along the canals or even go on canal cruises.

For museums, I really enjoyed the Rijksmuseum for works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as the Van Gogh Museum (combo tickets are available).



For more nature-focused outings, there’s Vondelpark, Keukenhof Park, and the windmills at Zaanse Schans... You can find all my photos and details about my trip budget on my travel journal for Amsterdam.

Hi there, I’m planning my first solo trip after watching some coaching videos that say it’s great for personal growth (independence, self-confidence, socializing, etc.).

I’d like to start with a weekend in Amsterdam in a few months.

But I’m wondering—should I follow a pre-made itinerary like the ones in *Lonely Planet* to keep stress low for my first solo weekend, or should I plan my own route by picking the places I want to visit and activities that interest me, then connecting them with Google Maps to build my independence?

Because that’s really the skill I want to work on most during this trip.

The thing is, if I go with the second option, I’m worried I’ll panic trying to find my way once I’m there. So now I’m stuck in a dilemma.

Also, about youth hostels—how far in advance should I book?

My family and I (2 adults and a 6-year-old girl) are going on a cruise in January to the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. We’re departing from Guadeloupe, where we live. This is a first for me because personally, I’m not a fan of this kind of trip (I prefer traveling on foot with a backpack, but I want to make my family happy 😉). I’m used to planning my trips from A to Z, so it’s unthinkable for me to take the excursions offered by the cruise line (too crowded and too expensive). I’ve already sent a few requests to car rental companies on these islands, but if you have any contacts or great tips, I’d love to hear them! 🙂 I’m also wondering what itineraries to do during these short days ashore? Which places or activities shouldn’t be missed? (Preferably nature, culture, no shopping—unless it’s local crafts worth the detour!)

Hi, We’re traveling as a couple in mid-April for 7 days in the Netherlands. We want to see Amsterdam, the tulips, and the windmills. We’d like to bike through the tulip fields. We’re not athletes, but physical ability probably won’t be an issue. How many days should we devote to each part? (Amsterdam-windmills-tulips) Is it better to stay outside Amsterdam for the windmill-tulip portion? (like 2 nights in Leiden?) Is renting bikes a problem? 1er choc: des vélos partout !!!! donc vitesse réduite ce qui permet de découvrir des bâtiments insolites

Bonjour à tous, nous projetons de partir 15 jours à deux avec une petite fille de 3ans, de Dunkerque à Amsterdam en vélo, en laissant notre voiture à Dunkerque, seulement voilà pour le retour il semblerait que ce soit compliqué. Soit énormément de changement et en plus les vélos sont apparemment pas les bienvenus. Avez vous une idée ?

je dispose d'un mois pour faire un trip en vélo en août prochain. Mon idée serait de partir au Nord, Hollande, Danemark Suède J'habite le Doubs Avez-vous des idées de parcours sympa et pas trop fréquenté par les autos ? Je peux faire entre 100 et 150 km par jour merci

Bonjour, je souhaite faire la partie néerlandaise de l'Eurovelo 19 à vélo biensur, de Liège à Rotterdam.

Je cherche désespérément les traces GPS de cette partie, mais je ne trouve que les étapes françaises.

Pour ceux qui l'ont déjà fait, puis-je me lancer dessus sans GPS ?

Autre point, le bivouac étant interdit tant en Belgique qu'aux Pays Bas, avez-vous des pistes pour dormir (camping, hôtels qui acceptent de vélo, ...etc.).

Bref toute info utile est la bienvenue.

Je souhaiterais résider dans une station balnéaire à un même endroit pendant une semaine et faire du vélo plus particulièrement des parcours de 20 km sur terrain plat.

Je connais déjà le Sud des Pays-Bas.

Je voudrais visiter Amsterdam et le Pays Bas Septentrionale ( la plus belle province des Pays Bas parait il ). Je n'ai jamais été en Hollande.

Pourriez vous me conseiller sur ces points mentionnés ci-après ?

Mon séjour sera du 14 au 23 Mai Je partirai le 14/05 de Beauvais, en voiture.

2/ Quel serait les lieux à rester, et pour combien de jour ? Par exemple combien de jours à consacrer pour Amsterdam... ( si possible plus de 2 jours sur un lieu, pour ne pas trop déménager...)

3/ Quels prévoyances ou précautions à avoir ? Par exemple le trajet Beauvais-Belgique-PaysBas ...

Je prépare un voyage à Amsterdam avec deux amis et on voudrait savoir si les musées sont gratuits pour les étudiants (comme en France) parce qu'on a pas trouvé cette information sur les sites des musées.

Cette année on planifie une troisième fois sur le sol US (octobre). Par contre pas de vol direct à nos dates et une escale à AMS (Amsterdam). De bons prix en ce moment mais escale de 5h ou bien 50 min.

Pour ceux ayant fait escale à AMS (que je ne connais pas), par rapport à Francfort par exemple, plus petit, grand, monde, sécurité lente ???

Même si j'ai ma petite idée sur le choix, .... bonne journée
