Devant le départ imminent de AFBE75 et bientôt celui de SIMBA, je viens vous parler d'un problème qui a l'air assez préoccupant et qui risque de devenir une des plus importantes catastrophes écologiques que l'Afrique est connu, et nos deux voyageurs seront les plus à mêmes de nous tenir au courant des dernières nouvelles connaissant leur passion pour ce pays.

Des premiers cas de tuberculose bovine ont été décelés ches les buffles noirs en 1990, transmise par les bovins domestiques, et la maladie étant longue à incuber, sans aucun symptôme apparent, on se retrouve maintenant avec plus des deux tiers de la population de buffles contaminés dans un parc comme le Kruger, ou toute la partie Sud du parc a été complétement isolée, et ou la partie Nord est sous haute surveillance et l'abattage de bovins malades fréquent.

Malheureusement, la maladie s'est propagée au Kafue en Zambie, Masai Mara au Kenya et Queen Elisabeth en Ouganda, fort dommageable pour ce pays qui avant le régime sanglant de Amin dada comptait les plus grands troupeaux au monde et essayait depuis de les reconstituer.

Autre conséquence catastrophique, les prédateurs du buffle tels que les lions et léopards sont également atteints, ainsi que les guépards, babouins et grands koudous. Mais la situation est catastrophique pour le lion dont prés de 90% de la population est atteinte.

Aucun vaccin n'est actuellement opérable et on essaye de confiner les animaux malades dans certaines parties des parcs, derrière des clotures électrifiées, ainsi que de procéder à l'élimination des animaux atteints. On essaye aussi de reconstituer une population saine à partir de femelles gravides à qui on enlève les petits pour les mettre en quarantaine et reconstituer dans quelques années une population saine.

On ne parle pas beaucoup de ce problème dans les médias, car inutile de vous dire les conséquences que celà auraient sur le tourisme, mais sachant que AFBE75 et SIMBA se trouveront au Kruger dans les mois qui viennent, il est bon de se pencher sur ce désastre afin que ceux ci nous ramènent des nouvelles conformes avec la réalité actuelle.

Avez vous quelques bons plans pour la partie PODOR, MATAN, BAKEL, KEDOUGOU, TAMBACOUNDA, KOLDA ? Autrement dit sur le Nord et l'est: les lieux à ne pas rater, les bons camps, le meilleur moyen de circuler, etc etc...Sur le trajet sud et west je pense pouvoir m'en sortir seul ayant déjà bougé dans le coin.

Je suis en train d'effectuer un travail sur Nagaland et leur culture. Mais je viens de tomber sur ce forum magnifique et je remarque qu'apparement bon nombres de voyageurs s'y retrouvent. N'ayant put avoir la chance d'aller au Nagaland, ni même en Inde et encore moins au Myanmar (en fait, je ne suis jamais sortit de l'Europe, honte à moi 😊 !). J'épluches bouquins, films et autres documents, mais je crois qu'il serait bien plus intérréssant d'avoir des avis, des commentaires, des anecdotes etc... de personne ayant eu un contact, ou des infos, de près ou de loin avec le Nagaland.

Revenant tout juste d'Afrique, je repars pour l'Amérique du Sud : 1 mois depuis Lima jusqu'à La Paz ensuite je souhaite découvrir la Patagonie et la Terre de Feu mais pas toute seule. Connaîtriez-vous des compagnies sur place, en France ou même anglaises qui propose des treks et autres trips d'environ 2 semaines dans la région ???

Pour ma part je vous conseille vivement d'aller faire un tour sur le site www.overlandclub.com, si l'anglais n'est pas un problème pour vous, je vous recommande leurs virées de 1 semaine à 6 mois en Afrique (leur principale destination), Amérique du Sud, Nouvelle Zelande et bientot Asie. Principe, des camions de l'armée (quelque peu relookés tout de même !!!) sillonnant les routes du monde. En Afrique, j'ai finalement opté pour un trip de un mois :démarrage au Kenya, puis Tanzanie, Zanzibar, la Zambie, le Zimbabwe pour finir à Jo'burg. Techniquement : que des anglo saxons (donc il faut être à l'aise dans la langue de Shakespeare) surtout des Australiens d'ailleurs (qui doivent être plus que joyeux à la minute ou je vous écrit, victoire en demi-finale de rugby oblige). En gros, tu te débrouilles pour le billet, tu payes à l'agence le prix du transport et de la bouffe, quant aux activités tu avises sur place, ce qui te laisses une grande liberté dans le choix une fois là-bas. Adepte des voyages seule, ce périple à 17 fut pour moi la plus belle expérience de ma vie. De plus les anglo-saxons (même si leur penchant pour la bière commençait sérieusement à me "saoûler" sur la fin) sont des inconditionnels du voyage. Pour eux, (en particulier les Aussies et les Kiwis) quitter le cocon familial veut dire 2 ans voire plus loin de leur nid douillet. Certains n'ayant pas revu leur famille depuis 4 ans. Autant vous dire que nous "froggies" et nos 6 à 12 mois autour de la planète les font sourire. Bref des travellers, des vrais, et pour une fois le sentiment incomparable de pouvoir partager l'essentiel d'un voyage. Pour quelques clichés (marcher avec les lions, nager avec les éléphants...et moi avec un sourire digne de la pub freedant tellement je suis heureuse (effets secondaires garantis de l'Afrique) rendez-vous sur www.webshots.com (elina_lou).

PS : Je repars avec eux pour le circuit Lima / La Paz, du 28 novembre au 23 décembre. Pour ceux et celles que ça intéresse.

Nous envisageons de partir au Yunnan en juillet prochain, pour environ 3 semaines. Nous sommes donc avides de vos conseils et autres informations diverses sur les endroits intéressants à voir, le climat, la santé (notamment palu ou pas palu ?), les moyens de transport, etc ...

Nous envisageons de faire cette destination à l'aventure (nous l'avons déjà fait avec nos enfants à Cuba, au Cap-Vert et en Thaïlande, et sans eux à Bali, au Kenya ou encore au VietNam), en ne réservant que l'AR et les 2 ou 3 premières nuits d'hôtel à Kunming.

Hi everyone, I’m Julien! This summer, from late June to late July, I’m planning a one-month solo trip to Japan—my first time! I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice on the itinerary I’ve put together to explore this amazing country.

Here are the routes I’m considering:

**Option 1: More mountain and nature-focused**

Tokyo: 8 nights, with day trips to Nikko and maybe the Izu Peninsula Kawaguchiko (Lake Kawaguchi/Mt. Fuji): 1 night. The place looks stunning, but I’m worried Mt. Fuji might not be visible due to the weather Kyoto: 6–7 nights (including a trip to Nara) Osaka: 1–2 nights, where I’d like to drop off my things to make the Kumano Kodo easier Kumano Kodo: 3 nights—an experience I haven’t seen much elsewhere, but I thought it sounded really interesting Hiroshima: 2 nights Miyajima: 1 night Takayama: 3 days Kanazawa: 3 days (From what I understand, the Osaka–Takayama–Kanazawa–Tokyo route is convenient for transport) Tokyo: 1 night (return)

**Option 2: More varied but a bit vague in parts**

Tokyo: 8 nights Kyoto: 7 nights (+ Nara) Osaka: 2 nights Kobe + Himeji: just passing through—I’m not sure if it’s worth a night Naoshima: 1 night—still pretty unclear for me Takamatsu: 2 nights. An interesting city, but I’m not sure how long to stay Shimanami Kaido: biking from Imabari to Onomichi, then heading to Hiroshima Hiroshima: 2 nights Miyajima: 1 night Kyushu road trip (Aso + onsens + Fukuoka): 5 nights (also pretty vague—I could fly from Fukuoka back to Tokyo) Tokyo: 1 night

**Option 3: More balanced/simplified**

Tokyo: 8 nights Kawaguchiko: 1 night Kyoto: 7 nights (+ Nara) Osaka: 2 nights Koya-san: 1 night Kumano Kodo: 3 nights Takayama: 3 nights Kanazawa: 3 nights Tokyo: 1 night

A few key points: I haven’t made any reservations yet, except for the flight tickets. I know my plans are too packed and will need to be adjusted. I’m specifically looking for advice on which stops to cut or shorten.

After taking a little trip around the world, I came back a few months ago with an idea in mind.

I mostly do diving, and I love observing animals in their natural habitat without disturbing them.

During the trip, I realized it was quite complicated to know where and when to see certain species.

For example:

where to dive with sharks or manta rays where you might get a chance to swim with whales

I even discovered thresher sharks during my trip… I didn’t even know this species existed before, even though they’re incredible to see.

We spent a ton of time searching for info all over the place, especially on social media, without ever getting a clear picture.

So I started putting all this together on my own, in the form of a map, to make it easier to visualize where to go depending on the seasons.

I recently put a first version online (it’s called Fauneya). There are probably mistakes, inconsistencies, or things to improve, and that’s partly why I’m posting here.

I’d really love to know how you all go about planning this kind of trip.

The first theme of 2026 is: "Waterways Around the World".

Water is present almost everywhere on our blue planet, so I’ve narrowed the theme down to waterways—rivers, streams, brooks, and the like.



Seas, oceans, lakes, or other stagnant waters won’t be considered for this month’s theme 😅. However, waterfalls and cascades are very welcome 😊!



Practical details:

**Participation** Each VF member can submit up to 3 photos, until Sunday, January 25th at 11:59 PM Paris time. Each photo must be posted in a separate message, with its number (1, 2, or 3). Don’t forget to add a little explanation (commentary, location, etc.).

**Voting** Each VF member can vote for the 3 photos they consider the best, based on their own criteria and the theme.

Voting will take place from Monday, January 26th to Saturday, January 31st at 11:59 PM Paris time.

I’m reaching out for your advice since we’re planning a trip to Tanzania for our 10th wedding anniversary, with a continental part (4 nights) followed by Zanzibar for some relaxation (7 nights). A childhood dream.

My first question is: have families with kids this age already done this trip? Is it relatively safe, because I know that if there’s even the slightest health issue, the infrastructure can be tricky, especially on the mainland in Tanzania. We’ll of course take our precautions (vaccines and Malarone), but I want to make sure we’re not being reckless, as my in-laws seem to suggest (they’ve never traveled).

Also, for the safari, I need your opinions. I’m in advanced talks with the agency *Tanzania Wise Safari*. Has anyone heard of them?

Day 1 - night in Arusha to rest Day 2 - departure for Tarangire and safari (likely in the early afternoon), night in a lodge near the northern part of the lake at the crater entrance Day 3 - crater - night in the same lodge (I want to limit changes for my kids, but I’m not sure if that’s smart) Day 4 - I’m hesitating - what to do in the morning? Lake Manyara? Or return to Arusha at a relaxed pace and spend the night there? The guide suggested Arusha National Park, but I think it’s too much driving for the kids, since there’s already the trip from the crater to Arusha to get to the park. Day 5 - departure for Zanzibar. Do you have a recommended airline?

For flights, I tried a multi-destination option, but it seems complicated.

I’m planning a Tanzania trip combined with Zanzibar for 15 days (8+6 days). The setup: a private trip for two, in July or August.

We’re heading to Tanzania primarily for the safari experience—the animals, photography, and stunning landscapes. The classic Northern Circuit for beginners is Arusha / Tarangire / Ngorongoro / Serengeti.

But that’s a lot of driving if we do the full loop... and I’ve read it’s better to take your time in the parks rather than spend all day in transfers (saw that in Lonely Planet).

So, beginner’s question... Do you think Arusha / Tarangire / Ngorongoro is a good alternative? We’d skip the legendary Serengeti but could spend more time in the parks and avoid long stretches of rough roads (prioritizing paved routes instead)... Maybe adding Lake Manyara to the mix.

For context, we did Kruger about ten years ago (5 days self-drive).

And if so, did the agency mention that when they book for you, it’s them who has to pay the government tax or other taxes—I can’t remember—and then they charge you for those taxes afterward? Not sure if this is the right section, but just wanted to warn future travelers...

Where’s Cape Vidal? It’s in iSimangaliso, an independent park in KZN Wildlife, stunning and just a stone’s throw from St Lucia (KwaZulu-Natal, Maputaland). It’s the beach spot at the end of the Eastern Shores road. You can swim, fish... but watch out for waves, currents, and sharks... There’s a really nice game drive where you can get out of your car at certain points, especially at Cape Vidal. That’s where the camp with bungalows and campsites is. The vervets and samango monkeys (endemic to the area, and the males are pretty big) can be a bit of a nuisance if you’re trying to braai... They’re super persistent and not shy at all—don’t let them intimidate you, and stay alert because their speed at snatching food is impressive. Anyway... I’m reporting two recent attacks by these hyenas... who were *not* in a playful mood... The first one happened at night—a hyena tried to bite a camper’s nose off in their tent... and succeeded. The other night, a camper returning to their tent in the early hours was violently attacked by two hyenas... and they had a close call! So, if you’re camping there, be careful... Measures are being taken, but for now, it’s a bit risky.

So, this theme isn’t exactly a "travel invitation," but coming up with a new one is quite a puzzle 😅. During February’s “white” theme discussion, we had pages of cats, so you should be inspired 😸. I won’t be restrictive—wild felines, domestic cats, and even those in zoos (though I’m not a fan) will be accepted. Plus, engravings, paintings, statues, or any other representations of felines fit the theme. The Sphinx is also welcome ;).

Hi everyone, I’m planning my trip to Madagascar for the fall and starting to think about getting my visa. After reading through different posts, I’m a bit unsure about the best way to go about it. Is it better to apply for an e-visa (and if so, which official website?) or just queue up on arrival? It seems there are "unofficial"—and therefore fraudulent—sites out there, and that you’ll have to queue either way (which I’m not thrilled about since I’m arriving at 11 PM). What do you think?
