I bought my flight ticket with my first (usual) first name, which appears first on my passport. However, I have two first names on my passport, and of course, it’s mentioned in the machine-readable zone at the bottom.

I booked with Turkish Airlines (through an online agency) for a trip to South Korea.

I wanted to know if it would be a problem that I only used my first first name on the ticket, while my passport has two. I had requested through the agency to add the second first name, but the airline refused because it doesn’t meet their general conditions. (They must have seen that the last name and first name were the same, and only the second first name was added.)

So, my ticket has my last name and first first name correctly spelled, and when I check in online, I’ll enter the passport details correctly.

I’ll have a layover in Istanbul on the flight.

Another trip planned during Covid. Actually, for 2020, I had three trips booked, with tickets purchased and everything. This one to Uzbekistan was planned for April 2020. We postponed it to April 2021, but it was canceled again, and we couldn’t reschedule for April 2022 because our friends who were coming with us were busy. So, we chose summer, knowing the temperatures would likely be very high.

We left as a group of five: a couple we usually travel with and one of their friends, whom I knew. She was traveling alone and had dreamed of this trip but didn’t want to go by herself.

For organization, we went through an agency to handle the train tickets and our trip to the Aral Sea. It’s not my usual style, but back in 2020, we were already in touch with them, and they were very understanding during the two cancellations. It wasn’t easy, given the economic crisis Covid caused, especially in Uzbekistan.

Again, I’m writing this travel journal from memory since I didn’t take any notes. (It’s good to give your brain a workout now and then!)

Day 1: Off to Tashkent

We flew in the afternoon to Istanbul, had a 2-hour-15-minute layover in Turkey, and then took an overnight flight to arrive early in the morning in Tashkent. Problem (again): just before taking off from Saint-Exupéry, the plane had an issue with the landing gear. We waited two hours, and after a few hammer and wrench adjustments, we finally took off. Of course, by the time we arrived in Istanbul, it was a mad dash through the airport to catch our connecting flight. We landed at 7:30 AM in Tashkent, and of the five suitcases in our little group, two were missing (one of ours and the solo traveler’s). Big problem because we were leaving at 2:30 PM by train for the Aral Sea, and we wouldn’t be near an airport again for three days. Plus, at the small airport in the Uzbek capital, no one spoke English (or French, or the Ardèche dialect). Fortunately, we had booked a guide for a quick morning tour of the capital. We had seven hours to kill, and it seemed smart to do it this way (and yes, sometimes we do think ahead). With him speaking English and, more importantly, Uzbek, the delivery of our suitcases was arranged.

So, we set off to explore the capital. It’s very Soviet in design—wide avenues and ugly buildings.

We visited the Khasti Imam historical complex (first name to pronounce at your own risk—there will be plenty more during the trip). Lots of "oohs" and "aahs" about how beautiful it was, but in the end, compared to what we saw later, it was really just small potatoes.

We checked out Chorsu Bazaar, the city’s large covered market. The guide was friendly and gave us plenty of tips for the rest of the trip. He suggested a restaurant, which we accepted, so we could get familiar with local customs. The good thing was, it didn’t seem like a tourist trap.

Next, we headed to the train station because our train was at 2:30 PM. The guide left us, and then another problem arose. While going through security, one of the staff made it clear that our train was canceled and our ticket needed to be changed to the train leaving around 8:20 PM. Heatwave moment (it was 38°C). Our issue was that we were supposed to arrive in Nukus (our destination) at 6:00 AM and take a minibus for a round trip to Moynaq and the Aral Sea (four hours each way). The plan was to spend 2-3 hours there and return, so a 10-11-hour timeline. Leaving at 6:00 AM made it doable, but with the train now leaving at 8:20 PM, we’d arrive in Nukus at noon, which messed up the rest of the plan.

I was fuming at the agency (I really don’t like using agencies), so I called the local contact, who quickly sent our guide back (because trying to communicate, change tickets, and get information was tough).

I asked the manager to find us flight tickets to make up for the delay, but nothing—zilch—was possible. We were stuck! My buddy and I were determined to get to Moynaq, but the women in the group were less motivated.

No choice but to board the train for an overnight journey. We had a cabin for two (and our friend had one to herself). Big scare at first—no AC, and it felt like 150°. They told us it would work once the train started moving, which it did. A frugal meal in the dining car (spaghetti with meat—the only dish on offer) and we had a good night’s sleep.

This thread is to echo some posts I’ve read on this forum while researching a potential bike trip from Annecy to Mecca. I came across several discussions where members mentioned being very interested in cycling to the holy city.

So, God willing, I plan to attempt this journey from January to June next year. The idea is to head to Turkey first, then assess the most reasonable routes based on the geopolitical situation around Palestine and as far as Iraq. Since the Turkish-Syrian border is closed, the only remaining (and I mean *only* remaining) overland option would be to go through Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq, then Jordan, and finally Saudi Arabia.

That’s the first major challenge of this project. The second is timing. Due to the schedule, I’ll be starting in the middle of winter across Europe and finishing in the peak of summer in Saudi Arabia. If I’d had a choice, I’d have waited a good dozen years—but well, twelve years...

I won’t go into too much detail about the planned route in this post, but here are the broad strokes already set: Annecy to Istanbul. The rest is a bit too far ahead to map out properly. Crossing the Italian border via the Montgenèvre Pass. Straight through northern Italy as quickly as possible (not necessarily very pleasant) to reach Ljubljana. The fastest route through Croatia to spend as much time as possible in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Serbia via the Sandžak region. It crosses the Pešter plateau, which intimidates me at this time of year—its nickname, the "Siberia of the Balkans," says it all... Then Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey.

I’m open to any advice on this itinerary. The choice was made to pass through as many Muslim-majority regions as possible. In the middle of winter in the Balkans, I don’t feel mentally up to bivouacking alone in that climate. So, I’ll try to find accommodations in mosques or even with locals as much as possible.

That’s the project in a nutshell. The big catch—some of you may have already noticed—is that I’m doing this solo. Yet, this is strongly discouraged by our Prophet—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So, I invite anyone interested in joining this project, whether closely or from afar, to reach out and contact me. Any contribution is welcome, whether it’s company for the whole journey (one can always hope!) or just part of it. Advice, contact suggestions, places to stay, and information about Hajj or Umrah are also appreciated.

Suite à l'annulation d'un vol prévu le 28 mars, Turkish Airlines m'a proposé un remboursement intégral. J'ai donc fait la démarche en ligne le 20 mars dernier et j'ai bien eu la confirmation que ma demande avait été acceptée avec le détail du montant qui me sera remboursé. A ce jour, je n'ai pas encore reçu le remboursement mais il était indiqué que cela pouvait prendre jusqu'à 30 jours donc j'attends encore.

Est-ce que quelqu'un ici a également demandé un remboursement de la part de Turkish Airlines et l'a déjà reçu ? Cela pourrait être intéressant qu'on se tienne au courant pour voir si les personnes qui avaient comme moi demandé un remboursement l'ont obtenu.

J'ai une question sur mon escale en Turquie, qui va me prendre 9 heures. La dernière fois , j'étais étonné de partir de nuit, à 2 heures du matin ou presque, on m'a dit que c'était normal. Cet aéroport a un battement spécial, et ne ferme pas vraiment la nuit. Il y a un tout petit moment de repos seulement. Bref, je vais poser la question sur mes bagages. Pensez-vous que comme c'est une escale, ils suivront avec ma destination finale, ou comme l'escale est de 9 heures, je vais devoir aller les chercher? La question peut paraître bête comme çà.... Je pense demander au comptoir, mais les voyageurs habitués pourront me répondre directement. Turkish Airlines. Et ils me disent deux bagages, mais ils ne me disent pas le poids, qui était passé de 21 à 23 kilos possible en 2018 à mon dernier voyage, mais comme je n'ai jamais fait avec eux, je ne sais pas. Mais je demanderai .... Pareil si quelqu'un a l'habitude avec eux, ce serait bien de me confirmer svp, pour me rassurer.

Bonjour, Suite à un changement d'horaire sur un vol Turkish Airlines, ma réservation a été "rééditée" et je constate en consultant mon nouveau billet que sur le vol retour (Ho Chi Minh - Luxembourg) le vol a été séparé en deux parties distinctes. Je souhaite partir fin mai du Vendredi au Lundi avec deux copains visiter l’Auvergne et ses volcans.

Le projet serait de partir en van aménagé sur 3 jours et d’en prendre pleins les yeux : route des volcans , villages perdus , randonnées...

L’objectif est donc d’etre libre au maximum , de pouvoir prendre un peu de hauteur et d’acceder aux plus beaux points de vues du massif.

Auriez vous un itinéraire à conseiller ? En van , à pieds.. je suis preneur de vos conseils et bons plans ;)

Bonjour, Nous partons en Ouzbekistan pendant 3 semaines en mai. De Lyon, pas de vol direct pour Ourgentch. Nous allons prendre un vol Lyon Tachkent et retour Samarcande Lyon avec Turkish Après quelques jours dans la vallée de Ferghana à notre arrivée, nous envisageons de prendre un vol intérieur pour aller à Ourgentch. Est-ce qu'il est préférable de l'acheter via un site français ou bien le réserver à notre arrivée à Tachkent ? Je pose cette question car pour la Thaïlande, nous avions réservé des vols intérieurs avant notre départ et finalement beaucoup plus chers que dans le pays.... Merci pour votre réponse Michèle

J'ai noté que dans le sens Turquie-Iran, c'était beaucoup moins cher que l'inverse, seulement le site de la compagnie nationale turque de trains est assez difficile d'accès (pas trouvé de version anglaise). Il me semble qu'il y a 1 trajet hebdomadaire le mercredi, mais je n'arrive rien à trouver pour Ankara-Téheran (Tahran), ni meme en tapant la ville frontière Tatvan... Si quelqu'un pouvait me renseigner à ce sujet, ce serait super. Merci d'avance, Elena

Courant janvier je souhaite voyager en Iran pour visiter ce pays durant quelques semaines. Je souhaiterai m'y rendre en traversant la frontière terrestre Iran-Turquie et suis à la recherche de témoignages de personnes qui auraient récemment fait cela, de façon à ce que je puisse en juger la faisabilité.

Je recherche notamment des témoignages de personnes qui l'aurait effectué en n'étant pas motorisé par leurs propres moyens mais qui auraient plutot traversé la frontière en transport en commun (bus / train) ce qui sera mon cas.

J'aurai souhaité savoir comment se sont déroulés les démarches à la frontière pour le visa, quelles démarches vous avez pû faire au préalable etc.

Voici le retour de notre voyage (en couple) au Rajasthan du 15 juillet au 4 août. Pour faire court j'ai ADORE ! Et d'abord l'ambiance : c'est bruyant, coloré, cracra, décrépi...et incroyablement esthétique : un appel à tous vos sens! Ensuite c'est une concentration de forts, palais, temples...bref un héritage culturel exceptionnel ! Comme j’aime bien trouver des infos pratiques quand je prépare mes voyages je vais essayer d’en mettre le maximum (vous lirez entre les lignes pour ceux qui ne sont pas en recherche d’infos !).

Le parcours : Agra (2 nuits) - Jaipur (3N) - Pushkar (2N) - Udaipur (3N) - Ranakpur(1N) - Jodhpur (3N) - Jaisalmer (3N) – retour Jodpur vol Delhi (2N) En terme de déplacements les routes sont très bonnes mais la circulation complètement anarchique (en particulier dans les villes !) et on ne roule pas vite (une vache, un chien, une chèvre voire un dromadaire… peuvent surgir à tout moment !). Voilà les temps de trajets : Delhi/Agra : 3h Agra/Jaipur (visites de Fatehpur Sikri et Abhaneri sur le trajet) : 5h (+3h de visites) Jaipur/Pushkar : 3h Pushkar/Udaipur (visite de Chittorgarh) : 7h (+2h de visites) Udaipur/Jodhpur (détours par Khumbalgarh et Ranakpur : on a fait une nuit sur Ranakpur) : 3h+3h Jodhpur/Jaisalmer : 5h (visite d’Osian à l’aller 1h) Vol Jodhpur/Delhi : 1h20 (+1h voiture aéroport/hotel)

Un point budget: - le vol : Toulouse/Delhi via Istanbul (immense aéroport tout neuf, coin fumeur en F13 pour ceux que ça intéresse !) avec Turkish (classique, plutôt très bonne bouffe, 578€/pers). - vol intérieur Jodhpur/ Delhi (en été la ligne Jaisalmer/Delhi ne fonctionne pas) avec Air India (48€/pers) - visa ici : 72€/pers - hôtels : plutôt très conforts (mais sans piscine) et toujours bien placés en centre ville : 862€ (19N soit une moyenne de 45€/N, de 20€ à 75€). Excellente wifi partout. Paiements par CB - chauffeur privé : 645€ (les 3 semaines) + 80€ de pourboire (min 10% si c’est ok, on augmente en fonction du niveau de satisfaction) Bien choisir son chauffeur, on passe quand même beaucoup de temps en voiture et ses conseils sont souvent bien utiles. Je vous recommande : Sevinder (son site: chauffeurpriveeninde , son tel -il est très réactif sur whatsapp- : +919958402866) D’ailleurs il est tellement sympa que je me suis proposée pour faire l’intermédiaire si besoin (en privé). Attention son site est en français (il a payé très cher pour cela 🤪 mais à part quelques mots il s'exprime en anglais) - sur place : attention aux retraits limités à 10000rps -environ 130€- (3 fois consécutifs possibles avec frais bancaires à chaque fois évidemment…il faut vraiment que j’ouvre un compte voyage avec CB sans frais…des retours à ce propos ???). les repas : de 2€ à 10€ (« restos à touristes »), une moyenne de 5€ en général (mon mari a explosé le budget avec les bières qui coûtent plus chers qu’un repas…) les visites : le budget que j’avais mal anticipé puisque les prix ont souvent doublé par rapport à ce que j’avais pu lire ! Je détaillerai mais entre 3 et 7€ par personne 2 ou 3 fois/ jour, ça chiffre vite ! (Taj mahal hors concours à 17€, billet à prendre en ligne sur leur site) Environ 650€/pers pour ces 2 postes. Budget total : 2150€/pers

Le climat : Pas le choix pour nous mais il est clair que juillet n’est pas la meilleure période. Il fait chaud , trèssss chaud, humide, trèssss humide. Le matin on cuit en général sous le soleil puis le temps se couvre pour une ambiance sauna car la température est au max entre 14h et 18h. Bref on est trempe et poisseux toute la journée (la clim de la voiture et des hôtels est un vrai plus pour se ressourcer !). Les 2 orages vécus montrent qu’il ne fait sans doute pas bon s’aventurer dans d’autres parties de l’Inde en cette saison …

L’avantage c’est que nous avons croisé très peu de touristes (sauf touristes locaux !) avec comme revers de la médaille une sollicitation quasi permanente : « Pic ?Pic ? » comprenez selfie avec moi…ça c’est le côté sympa mais aussi les « viens dans ma boutique » « achète » qui à la centième fois peuvent être légèrement lassants (et culpabilisants…parce que c’est quand même pas top leurs conditions de vie...et un achat peut faire la différence quand c'est le seul de la journée). Tout est d’ailleurs un peu faussé par ce rapport à l’argent : de simples conversations qui semblent amicales finissent toujours par une proposition commerciale. Même faite avec le sourire c’est toujours un peu décevant (quoi ! on ne m’aime pas pour moi mais pour mon argent ???). Par contre (Delhi mis à part ) il y a moins de misère que des retours plus anciens m’avaient laissé supposer .
