Suite à la demande de Simba, voici une dernière photo avant mon départ. Le temps de fermer la valise et direction l'inde très tôt demain matin. A début septembre, avec plein de photo dans les microdrives...

salut ! je vais partir avec trois copins pour un mois en grèce en aout (je sais c pas ce qu'il y de mieux mais bon ...) et j'aimerai bien savoir ou sont les meilleurs endroits ! on veut rester 2 jours a athènes, visiter les trucs important, puis passer 3 semaines sur les îles, on avait penser au dodécanèse et peut être la crète voire les cyclades. on recherche des endroit sans trop de tourisme de masse si possible, petites îles avec qques autochtones s'ils en restent ... donc si vous connaissez un peu la grèce et pourriez nous conseiller, n'hésitez pas ! merci 🙂

Je veut partir 15 jours fin juillet, mais j'ai un peu de mal à me décider. Je me demande si 15 jours en hotel ce ne serait pas un peu lourd, alord, je pensais à une formule avec une semaine circuit et une semaine hotel all In.

J'hésite entre la Tunisie, l'Egypte, la Crète, La Turquie ou autre, je ne sais vraiment pas en fait. Je suis ouverte à toute proposition.

J'ai un budget par persone d'environ 1.000 EUROS ce qui n'est pas énorme je sais.

Tout en sachant que nous avons pour budget : 1500 euros pour tous les deux.

Que nous voulons uniquement une formule "all inclusive".

Où peut-on trouver une destination adéquat à notre budget et notre souhait de formule ?

J'avais pensé à la Crète, la Grèce ou les Baléares, Cap Vert, Lanzarote, Ténérife... Mais je ne sais pas si pour de telles destinations, ça suffirait au niveau budget et si c'est accessible en formule tout inclus.

Je planifie un prochain voyage dans les Iles grecques. Il y a 5 ans nous avons fait la Grèce continentale en septembre et la température était parfaite. Cette fois-ci nous pensons partir 3 semaines dans les Iles (mai ou fin mai début juin ) Crête et 2 ou 3 autres iles. Pour eux d'entre vous qui y sont allés à cette période, comment est la température ? Peut -on se baigner en Crête à cette période ? Quelles sont les iles à ne pas manquer ? Hotels recommandés?

Avez-vous des projets de voyages pour 2005 ? Pour moi ce devrait être, en cyclo-camping, la Crète au printemps et la Roumanie en été, en voiture-cyclo-camping un petit tour plus au nord vers la Pologne et la Slovaquie. Toujours à la chasses de cols et monts en tous genres.

J'envisage de partir en Namibie l'été prochain avec mes enfants de 9 et 6 ans (qui n'en seront pas à leur 1er voyage puisque je les ai déjà enmenés en Floride, Québec, Crète, etc...). Si vous avez déjà voyagé en Namibie avec vos enfants, vos impressions et conseils m'intéressent... Etant donné qu'on doit faire pas mal de route, il faut leur trouver des activités qui leur soient agréable (en dehors bien entendu de l'observation des animaux). J'ai lu que les campings étaient souvent équipés de piscine, ce qui peut être sympa après une journée de voiture, mais en juillet l'eau risque de ne pas y être très chaude. Avez-vous pratiqué ? Hi everyone, I’m planning my first trip to Greece from October 29th to November 23rd and I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on the itinerary I’m considering. For a first visit, I’ll definitely cover the traditional tourist route, but I’m also open to off-the-beaten-path ideas. I’m curious and interested in history, archaeological sites, and the islands—more for culture than beaches, anyway, especially in November!

Here’s the plan: 3–4 days in Athens, 2 days in Nafplio: visiting Epidaurus and Mycenae, Stop in Olympia on the way to Delphi via Patras by bus? To avoid backtracking to Athens; 2 days in Delphi, including the site and Mount Parnassus, Explore the Ionian coast and a few islands? A few days in Corfu, 3 days in Meteora, 2–3 days in Thessaloniki, Direct flight from Thessaloniki to Heraklion, Crete, 3–4 days in Crete, November 22nd–23rd: overnight ferry back to Athens to catch my return flight to Montreal.

You’ve probably guessed I’m traveling solo. It might seem a bit scattered right now—I’ve started reading up on Greece, and there are must-see spots. What feels unclear are the 4–5 days between Delphi and Corfu. Also, mid-November in the islands might not be ideal if the weather’s bad.

Is Corfu worth it? Maybe there are other options—like a few days in Albania? Just throwing the idea out there.

Hi everyone. Because that’s also what sparks the desire in every traveler (well, at least for me) to set foot on Australian soil: discovering a new continent.

Right now, I’ve got some time on my hands—those who follow me know that. A nasty muscle tear (which really doesn’t want to heal) is keeping me grounded for another week, so I’ve decided to open a new travel journal, recounting my recent trip from December 14, 2024, to January 12, 2025, in Australia.

The origins of this trip started last May in Crete, an island I chose for a 10-day break. It’s really lovely, by the way, but that’s not the point… It’s around this time every year that we decide on our next winter destination, and Argentina was at the top of the list—Sydney wasn’t even on the radar… I’d been looking at flights to Buenos Aires for a while, and the prices were shocking… But by the pool one lazy afternoon, scrolling on my iPhone, a promo from Geneva to Sydney caught my eye. The deal ticked two boxes on my traveler’s bucket list: a flight to Australia and a flight with Singapore Airlines, often ranked as the world’s best airline. A quick chat with the missus (well, of course!) and the decision was made: off to the land of kangaroos! Now, once you add luggage and Economy Plus, it still comes to 1600 € per person, but that’s a reasonable price. Either way, we already know what we’re in for—Australia is a budget commitment!

Hi everyone, I’m planning to go away at the end of May for a short 5-day trip, not too far away! I currently live near Montpellier and have two kids (ages 2 and 7). The idea is to have a relaxing, low-stress vacation that’s easy to manage with young children (I’m especially thinking of my 2-year-old—cities like Florence, which I’d love to visit, are probably too tiring for his age). I was thinking of Majorca (which I don’t know at all) or Crete, for example, which I visited a long time ago (ideal: good food, ruins to explore, beautiful villages, etc.). But it could also be Malta or somewhere else... It’s true that before having kids, I had more time (and budget) and traveled farther, so I’m not very familiar with the Mediterranean—my mistake!

My question is pretty vague, but what would you recommend for a 5-day trip at the end of May? Since the sea will still be a bit cold (swimming might be tough!), preferably by the coast, with a family-friendly hotel and kid-friendly areas?

Hi there, I’m planning a trip to Greece this summer with my 3-year-old son. I recently separated, and we were originally supposed to go on a road trip to Brazil, so I’m now forced to find a Plan B. I’m usually a backpacker who travels with just my backpack, but with my son, I’ll have to opt for all-inclusive hotel packages. I don’t feel ready yet to go backpacking alone with him at the other end of the world. When he’s 5, it’ll be easier :)

Anyway, with so many options for Greece, I’m a bit overwhelmed. There are so many islands and resorts. Do you have an island to recommend? And more specifically, a hotel?

We’re looking at the first two weeks of August.

I’m paraphrasing the title of discussions that were popping up back in 2020. Back then, the obstacles were travel restrictions and all sorts of often very arbitrary "health" rules. Today, it feels like we’re facing an epidemic of wanderlust that’s piling up in certain places—places that keep expanding. Places that end up feeling like wallpaper, just part of the scenery, more or less exotic, since the people, the dominant crowd, are always the same. And they’re especially overwhelming in limited spaces like villages, museums, and other remarkable sites.

Personally, it tends to send my cortisol levels through the roof, leading to desperate attempts to salvage what I can (the stress when I saw a travel journal about eastern Crete—then, phew, at least this little piece of old Greece hasn’t been exposed yet. Maybe it’ll survive a little longer). So, no more weekends in beautiful European cities. So, adjusted visiting hours, but that’s not always enough (I’ll still have to say goodbye to Caravaggio’s *Madeleine* since I can’t have a quiet moment with her anymore, even late in the day). So, outright giving up: I’ll never see Machu Picchu. Too late. So, shifting travel dates to minimize the damage (Uzbekistan was originally planned for Easter—with April 24th and May 1st to limit vacation days—but the anxiety of tourist crowds during that mild climate period, with few days off, led me to reschedule the trip for winter. Short days and possible rain are a thousand times better).

Avoiding crowds has become a fundamental criterion for choosing destinations and timing.

And you? Are you able to tune out this identical crowd everywhere, or has it changed your relationship with travel/tourism?

Who among us hasn’t dreamed of having a ticket to Tahiti, Bora Bora, or the Marquesas in their pocket—preferably a one-way ticket to “paradise”?

Among the values conveyed by literature, tourism, and advertising is the quest for “elsewhere,” for a change of scenery, in the truest sense of the word—that is, the need to leave one’s country. This need for otherness, for difference, is projected onto dreamlike, idealized, even mythicized places. In our imaginary world, the island is often that place.

Yet we forget that islands have also been ideal prisons. The examples are numerous: Elba and Saint Helena, Alcatraz and Poulo Condor, If and Yeu, the Devil’s Islands and Leros. The latter, located in Greece in the Dodecanese, hosted a sinister forced labor camp during the colonels’ dictatorship as well as a psychiatric hospital. Despite the beauty of its bay, tourism has remained marginal there due to its bad reputation, unlike the neighboring island of Patmos.

I’d like to share a selection of about a dozen islands from across the world’s seas and oceans. For dreaming...

SANTORINI



July 27, 1967

At dawn, the ferry from Agios Nikolaos (Crete) enters the immense caldera of Santorini. From the ship’s deck, Rainer, my travel companion, and I are left in awe by the sight of these towering, multicolored cliffs looming over us. We disembark and begin the steep climb on foot via the winding mule path up to the village of Fira, the capital perched above the cliff. Though it’s still very early, we head to the youth hostel. There wasn’t a soul in the alleys that morning—or rather, there were only cats! I have a fond memory of that encounter with Santorini: a sensory shock, a breathtaking volcanic site, a harmony of blue, ochre-red, and white. A welcoming island, as it was traditional to welcome the xénou, an island that hadn’t yet fully recovered from the terrible 1956 earthquake, a Cycladic architectural marvel where local life was still preserved.

It’s easy to see why, in antiquity, the island was named Kallisté (καλλίστη), “the most beautiful,” as it’s nearly impossible to resist gazing at this landscape shaped by tectonic forces. Indeed, a massive volcanic cataclysm—the Minoan eruption—shaped this scenery in the 17th century BCE, creating a caldera that was quickly filled by the sea. The enormous tsunamis that followed reached Crete, leading to the disappearance of the Minoan civilization.

A cliffside path along the caldera leads us to the peaceful village of Oia, at the northern tip of the island. Blue-domed churches and flower-filled villages with whitewashed houses line the way. This walk is a continuous marvel, offering splendid views of the caldera and the neighboring islands formed by the breakup of the ancient volcano (Thirissa, Nea Kameni). Oia is a large, picturesque village, like Fira perched on the cliff’s edge, which was severely damaged by the 1956 earthquake, and its scars are still visible. Its cave-like houses with vaulted roofs haven’t yet been turned into luxury hotels or shops. Absolute tranquility reigns here.

A lush countryside covered in olive trees and vineyards welcomes us for a pleasant hike, interrupted by the kindness of a friendly islander who gives us a lift in his truck for a few kilometers. He’s off to harvest his tomatoes, which he grows at the foot of Pyrgos Hill. The delicious little cherry tomato of Santorini earned an EU Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in 2013. We climb up to the village of Pyrgos, perched on a hill and dominated by the elegant bell tower of its church. Finally, we reach the black sand beach of Kamari on the island’s eastern coast to enjoy a swim.

RAIVAVAE (French Polynesia)

Éléonore from Pension Tama welcomes us with traditional flower leis, as if she’d been waiting for old friends she hadn’t seen in ages. The small airport terminal is lively, the atmosphere warm—people hugging, rejoicing in reunions, all under kilos of flowers. Then, just as quickly, the place empties until the next flight... in a few days.



In the Austral Islands, a ninety-minute flight from Tahiti, Raivavae is a world away from the frenetic pace of Papeete or the tourist crowds of the Leeward Islands. The true paradise of the South Seas can still be savored here—it’s a bit like Bora Bora half a century ago. Our first feeling upon arriving on this island is wonder, with smiles that could melt even the gloomiest among us, landscapes so stunning they take your breath away, and above all, a sense of disorientation and fulfillment. Picture a mountainous island, about ten kilometers by three and a half, encircled by a coral reef and wild motu, cradling a lagoon with shades of blue that would make Bora Bora green with envy.

The roughly one thousand inhabitants of Raivavae are spread across four villages around the island. Children are everywhere, as is typical in Polynesia, and they greet you with open, genuine smiles. Here, ancestral values have survived progress. The predominantly Protestant population is very devout, as evidenced by the several temples built across the island. Religious fervor sets the rhythm of daily life. Sundays are reserved for worship and Sunday school (catechism). Work is forbidden on that day, and tourist activities are suspended. These rules are strict and respected.

Yet a sense of resignation is ever-present. The people of Raivavae know they are—and will remain—isolated. Despite the construction of an airstrip in 2004 and a few weekly flights to Tahiti and its nearest neighbor, Tubuai (200 km away), the island remains on the fringes of the world. One painful aspect is the separation of children from their parents when they leave for middle school in Tubuai starting in fifth grade. Television brings daily images of a world the islanders will likely never know, but one they often aspire to.

We are privileged. We have the pristine white-sand beaches of the motu and some of the most beautiful bays in Polynesia all to ourselves. The jewel in the crown, the island’s emblematic spot, is the “motu-pool,” about twenty minutes by boat. A natural, exquisite basin with crystal-clear water, gradients of blue, and white sand. And best of all, there’s almost no one there. In fact, lounging on the beach is frowned upon, especially for young women. Religion looks very unfavorably on sunbathing and lazing around. And yet, everything here leans toward that philosophy of life.

J'étais à Corfou en août et il y avait assez bien de gens. Par contre, j'ai des échos qui me disent qu'il fait trés calme sur Rhodes actuellement...Qu'en est-il de la Crête?? Mille mercis...

ça peut paraître évident que les voyages nous changent mais en y réfléchissant, je me dis qu'il n'est pas sûr qu'un "travail souterrain" soit à l'oeuvre par le biais du voyage.

ou alors, ça se ferait inconsciemment ?

Je souhaite me rendre vers le 20 aout en Grèce par avion depuis Marseille pour une semaine voire 10 jours avec Madame et notre garçon de 9 ans : - quelle ile privilégier pour le calme (un peu optimiste je sais en cette période- j'ai déjà exclu Mikonos et probablement Santorin..) - quelques visites pour un pèlerinage historique sur les traces d'Aristote et Platon - de bons petits plats grecs et les boissons locales... J'ajoute que je ne cherche pas impérativement les petits prix.. (la vie est trop courte..faut en profiter...) et que dans tous les cas ma destination est également fonction des liaisons aériennes entre Marseille et l'ile choisie. Nous avions programmé de passer 1 mois au Nicaragua en aout ..voyage annulé ( plutôt reporté). Du coup, je viens de prendre un vol pour Thessalonique afin de faire un périple de 3 semaines en Grèce avec nos 3 enfants de 7, 9 et 13 ans, entre mer et montagne. Voiture de location pour les 3 semaines.

J'aimerais avoir votre avis sur les 2 itinéraires suivants:
