Je suis un jeune homme de 20 ans adepte du VTT depuis un bon moment, et du route au sein d'un club de cyclo depuis Octobre 2012.
Je suis tombé "amoureux" du vélo de route et de ce que l'on peut faire avec, et le fait de faire de plus longues distances plus facilement qu'un vtt m'a donné des idées de voyages à vélo.
J'avais donc en tête de faire un Paris Marseille, pour rejoindre de la famille, et également la côte Atlantique, Bretagne y compris, déjà parcouru lors de mes anciennes vacances dans le coin, si j'y parvient il y aura surement d'autres destinations.
J'ai donc parlé de mes projets à ma mère, dans l'idée de partir en vacances ensemble en Vendée, je serais parti quelques jour avant elle pour la rejoindre à vélo en passant par la Bretagne par exemple. C'est là qu'elle me dit qu'elle aimerait bien se joindre à moi et que cette "aventure" la tenterait bien.
Le truc c'est que je me voyais faire une moyenne de 80 km par jour environ qu'elle ne tiendra pas, et faire 40 km par jour j'aurais pas l'impression d'avancer, et je devrais surement l'attendre plusieurs fois, donc pas très plaisant pour nous deux.
C'est la que m'est venu l'idée du tandem, me disant que l'on serait ensemble et que l'on pourrait augmenter notre kilométrage quotidien.
Est-ce une bonne idée ?
Si oui, je ne sais pas quel est la meilleure solution, en louer un sur place pour 15 jours ? Mais ça doit revenir assez cher, et nous oblige à faire une boucle pour le restituer, ou trouver une bonne occasion ? Mais le tandem ça à l'air bien galère pour le transport, et si on fait la côte atlantique Nantes-Bayonne, je ne sais pas trop comment remonter sur Paris avec, d'ailleurs ni comment aller sur Nantes par exemple.

Merci de vos réponses, mais ma principale question avant de discuter de l'achat/location d'un tandem, est de savoir si selon vous ça pourrait correspondre à mes besoins ?
la pratique du tandem est assez particulière .... en toutes hypothèses, avant de se lancer dans un projet de plusieurs jours, il faut absolument essayer ... le meilleur conseil est donc bien, comme ça a déjà été dit, de louer un tandem et de faire qqs sorties !!! ça me paraît être un minimum .... Je n'oublie pas mes (nos) débuts en tandem et qqs désagréments (l'impression que l'équipier "se repose", ou qu'il "n'accompagne pas", qu'il ne se laisse pas "mener" ....) bref, un peu e pratique est indispensable ...
J'ai finalement occulté l'idée du tandem (Trop de soucis au niveau du transport), du coup il faudrait un vélo pour ma mère, que me conseillez-vous sachant que son budget sera aux alentours de 400 euros, çà me parait tendu d'avoir un bon vélo avec ce budget.
Quant à moi je serais sur un VTT Rockrider 5.3, il lui faudrait un bon vélo pour que je n'est pas trop a l'attendre et qu'elle ne galère pas trop.
Pour ce genre de rando avec des participants à endurance inégaux - il faut un système d'handicap comme pour les course de chevaux. En gros c'est celui qui va le plus vite d'être ralenti en portant les bagages !
Ou avec une remorque pour tout porter ou en sacoches en chargeant la tente, etc. et en laissant que du léger pour maman. Comme ça chacun va à la même vitesse.
Attention aussi, au delà de quelques heures en selle, ce sont souvent les fesses qui limite la distance journalière avant l'endurance cardio/musculaire.

Je te remercie de ta réponse, ça semble effectivement être un bon produit, pour le chargement j'y pensais, me reste à trouver un porte bagage adéquat, et c'est pour çà que je pense partir avec mon Vtt qui devrait bien me ralentir.

Même si ce n'est pas dans ton budget, il existe des Tandem pliable 2x20" à au rendement.
Il y a un Brike Friday à vendre ici. C'est une super monture, regarde les photos, pas de problème de transport.
J'ai un peu la flemme d'installer des portes bagages sur mon VTT, pas trop envie de les enlever/remettre a chaque fois que je change d'utilisation.
De plus j'ai un vtt pas super super, qui est déjà lourd de base, je penserais bien à m'acheter un vélo spécial pour cette utilisation et les prochaines a venir j'espère...
Qu'en pensez-vous ? La différence entre un Trekking et mon Vtt est-elle importante ?
Tu peux jeter un œil sur troc vélo, rubrique VTC. Il y a par exemple en ce moment un vélo de voyage qui a l'air dans un état neuf, bien équipé (porte bagage arrière tubus, les roues ont l'air solide, shimano deore...) et pour 500 euros il est même vendu avec des sacoches Vaude. C'est du 56 par contre, donc il y a de forte chance pour que ce soit trop grand mais l'occasion peut être une bonne piste pour faire une affaire.
Pour ce vélo ce serait le mien, donc un budget aux alentours de 800 euros.
Par contre pour le vélo de ma mère le budget est toujours aux alentours de 400 euros.
Le Riverside 7 est un vélo pas mal équipé, mais c'est une "enclume", tellement il est lourd. C'est pour l'avoir essayé que je prétends cela (mon neveu en possède un et me l'a fait essayer).
Parmi les quelques vélo de voyage que j'ai testé, le "Fahrradmanufaktur T400" est vraiment bien pour son prix.
Effectivement, à deux on avance plus vite.
Ma copine n'est pas tres entrainée contrairement à moi, et à deux, on avance plus vite que moi tout seul.

Bonjour Alain, avec ma femme nous voyageons également en tandem un Lapierre et cette année notre voyage longera les côtes de France de Dunkerque à St Nazaire puis on fera l'euro vélo 6 pour rejoindre le Rhin que nous descendrons jusqu'à Cologne puis retour à Liège, l'année prochaine on voudrais faire un tour de France, j'ai vu sur ton blog que tu l'avais fais avec ton épouse je me pose la question suivante sur un ci long parcours comment choisir les endroits de passage sans ce répéter par exemple en suivant les côtes et passer à côté d'endroits intéressants, comment as tu fais ton tracé et quelles critères pour choisir tel ou tel parcourt et combien de temps faut il prévoir en sachant que l'on roule beaucoup à vélo ou en tandem et que nous pouvons faire une centaine de km par jour, merci de tes conseils.

Je pense que tu as fait le bon choix : le tandem ça ne passe pas partout et surtout quand on a un problème mécanique c'est tout le binôme qui est coincé ! Par principe, une machine pour deux, ça me parait peu prudent.
Donc vélo à 400 euros c'est bien. VTT avec de bon pneus VTC. Je déconseille vivement décathlon. Ces gens là ont failli me tuer plus d'une fois. J'ai même du jeter le vélo en cours de route, la première fois. Dans ces prix là il y a du bon matos chez Lapierre, par exemple.
La Bretagne par la route en VTT, avec les bagages, par contre, c'est pas faisable. Enfin moi j'y suis pas arrivé, ça grimpe trop. Mais la canal de Nantes à Brest ça le fait grave.
Par route il faut compter 40 km/jour et par les canaux et voies vertes 60. De toutes façons le problème c'est les fesses, pas les jambes.... Nantes à Brest c'est 5 jours si je me souviens bien, et les étapes font 40 bornes. Il y a des campings régulièrement. Attention, c'est tape-cul (mais moins que le canal du midi) et en faux-plat sur la moitié du trajet. Néanmoins je recommande : c'est fréquenté juste ce qu'il faut, de 7 à 77 ans, et on y fait des rencontres improbables : les gens voyagent en bateau, à dos d'âne, on voit de tout ! Et comme tout le monde parcours à peu la même distance quotidienne, on est pas vraiment seul et on retrouve les mêmes têtes chaque soir.
Monique était à l'origine de l'idée du Tour de la France au plus prés des côtes et des frontières. Nous sommes partis 99 jours, le hasard. Nous en gardons un superbe souvenir. Nous avons "survolé" les lieux touristiques, pour faire du tourisme et visiter il aurait fallu le double de temps. Nous nous sommes arrêtés, un jour sur les lieux particulièrement touristique, Cassis, Etretas, ....
Faire trop de kilomètres dans la journée coupe l'envie de ressortir du camping après avoir monté la tente et pris la douche. Nous apprecions un peut de repos en fin d'après-midi. Voilà pour ce qui est du Tour de la France.
Vous avez de superbes projets. EV6 est très belle, mais il faut prendre son temps.
Cette année pour nous ne sera que de petits voyages, le Rallye des Anglais à Gennes, des concentrations de l'Amicale des Cyclo-Tandémistes, la semaine Européenne à Yverdon (Suisse).

Pour 700 euros tu as ce modèle chez lapierre, qui ressemble au Riverside, bon matos certes, mais pas comparable à l'équipement du Riverside, la transmission notamment.
Et quant à décathlon j'ai mon vtt et mon route qui sont de décathlon jamais eu à me plaindre sauf à l'achat et un réglage hasardeux dans les deux cas, après faut faire gaffe, le rapport qualité prix et la qualité de leur vélo n'est pas discutable en revanche, juste les connaissances du personnel.
j'envisage de faire le tour de la france à vélo en longeant côtes et frontières mais
en empruntant que de petites départementales , voies vertes ou pistes cyclables.
Je crois comprendre que vous avez réaliser ce type de parcours.

I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès.
Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route!

I'm developing a free and open-source web app for planning walking and cycling trips (and even car trips). You can create a route by clicking directly on the map to add waypoints, and it can consist of multiple stages. The app provides tools to edit the stages and the overall route, and to display useful information (distances, altitudes, and elevation changes). A relief profile can be shown as a graph for a specific stage or the entire route.
Once the route is ready, it can be exported as a GPX file, which can then be used with a GPS or a mobile navigation app.
The app is built in JavaScript and runs entirely in the web browser. It uses the Leaflet library and several OpenStreetMap-based services. Initially developed for my personal needs (I enjoy hiking and cycle touring), I’d be happy to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It’s free to use, doesn’t require an account, and the source code is available.
After testing it for three years across various modes of transport, I’m sharing this video of a bike packing case. It’s made from recycled cardboard and shrink-wrapped, with adjustable thickness and added bubble wrap depending on the level of protection you want.
Installing spacers at the fork and chainstays makes the packaging compact. With the fifteen-odd euros for shrink-wrapping at the airport, this case travels really well.

- Low bulk (1.10m x 0.70m x 0.25m for a large frame), it fits vertically in train luggage compartments and the total dimensions (x+y+z) don’t exceed 2.40m.
- Two carrying solutions for public transport and easy handling by airport staff (no more tears in the cardboard from openings).
- Discreet packaging when dealing with bus drivers and train conductors, as it looks like an ordinary parcel.
- No need to return to the starting point to retrieve the case from your outbound trip, which you’d otherwise have to store somewhere, or deal with a bulky cover to pack in your panniers.
- You can still check tire pressure through the plastic film without damaging the packaging too much.
Drawbacks: Around 3 hours for this lengthy and meticulous process—removing the wheels, pedals, handlebars, and derailleur without misaligning them, then securing all components to the frame.

I’ve got my flight ticket sorted—departing in mid-November and returning in mid-March. I’ll arrive in Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires.
I’ve already been to southern Argentina, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, and I’d love to go back to do the full W trek (I only did the shorter version last time).
I also want to do some hiking and maybe even tackle a summit. I climb and occasionally do some mountaineering, so I’ll definitely be going with a guide.
I plan to start around Temuco in Chile, with the idea of heading toward the lakes, then taking the Carretera Austral.
I’m not sure if I’ll go all the way to Ushuaia—it’s supposed to not be *that* worth it, except for the bragging rights of saying you’ve been to the end of the world.
I saw there are lakes in Argentina too.
I don’t have a precise itinerary, but what I’d love is, once I reach the southernmost point of my trip, to take a mini-cruise to see some wildlife. Any tips for that?

I’m planning to cycle from Morlaix to Brest (via Roscoff and the V45 coastal route). We’ll start riding on August 16th for 13 days (with stops for island visits, surfing, etc.). Is there a lot of traffic at this time of year? I’ve got two kids, 11 and 13, and we don’t like riding in the middle of cars (we’ve already done the Vélomaritime—Caen to Cherbourg—the Loire route from Orléans to Saumur, the Vélodyssée from Nantes to Royans, and the canals like the Nivernais and Bourgogne, where there were plenty of bike-only lanes, which isn’t the case on this route).

That said, I’m tempted by a suspension fork that could offer some comfort on rougher roads.
The recent appearance of gravel suspension forks on the market might meet my needs—at least on paper.
I’m particularly considering the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
Unlike MTB forks, its travel is short: either 30 mm or 40 mm.
It weighs 1400 g, which is 400/500 g more than a steel fork.
Any thoughts or real-world feedback on this?
I’m also wondering about the durability of magnesium (lower leg) for long-distance bike touring.
And what’s the impact of skipping the manufacturer-recommended maintenance every 50 and 200 hours? That’s bound to happen on a long trip unless you carry extra gear.

I’m making an exception and creating a separate post this time, since it’s all about France. In May, we spent a week in Provence, specifically in the Luberon, exploring the cycling routes *Autour du Luberon à Vélo*, the *Véloroute du Calavon* (part of EuroVelo 8), and the shorter *Les Ocres à Vélo* route. Together, they gave us an amazing journey through rolling hills, vineyards, lavender fields still green in spring, and some of the most stunning landscapes in southern France.
It was, of course, the perched villages that impressed us the most. We visited Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Oppède-le-Vieux, Cucuron, and Lauris. Many of them are among the most beautiful villages in Provence, and it’s hard not to agree with that reputation.
One interesting point is the route of EuroVelo 8 in this part of the region. The official path mainly follows the old railway line of the *Véloroute du Calavon*, which is very comfortable and safe. But in our opinion, cyclists traveling EuroVelo 8 around the Mediterranean would discover even more treasures if the route passed through villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, or Oppède-le-Vieux.
We were also pleasantly surprised by how safe cycling felt. Most of the route takes small local roads, but traffic is light, drivers are respectful, and road design really takes cyclists into account. It’s one of those places where you can ride peacefully even without separated bike lanes.

Happy owner of a Pegasus Estremo bike with a Rohloff hub, which is giving me trouble with the SF11-NCX-FT-E-LITE 700C TS 300/0 fork (serial number TD01329060). It’s starting to show its age, and I’d like to repair it to extend the life of my beloved bike.
The suspension is gone, and there’s an oil leak from the seals.
Does anyone know how to repair it? Where can I find parts that are about fifteen years old? Or where to find an identical replacement fork? Just to clarify, the Magura HS11 brakes are mounted using Firm Tech, meaning they’re on pivots behind the fork, facing the frame.

I’m landing in Madagascar with a buddy before the end of April 2026. We’re planning to bike around for about twenty days or so. We don’t have a specific goal other than exploring the country and meeting the locals.
Ideally, we’d prefer a loop route starting from Antananarivo with a good chunk of it along the coast. On the bike side, we’re used to riding 6 to 8 hours a day, depending on the needs, encounters, and mood 😉 Any feedback or tips from trips around this length?

Last year, my wife and I explored the High Atlas by tandem. Completely smitten, we're heading back in April (Anti Atlas) and May (High and Middle Atlas), still on our tandem.
Do you have any info on the track between Amezri and Ali Ait Nito? Are the river crossings in the Tessaout still there? It's not easy to navigate with a loaded tandem... especially if the river level is high due to this year's heavy snowmelt!

I’ve been traveling for a few years now with a high-quality mountain bike, but it’s equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. I live (pedal) with the constant worry of a breakdown (leak, air bubble, heat causing the fluid to...). My bike mechanic tells me it’s impossible to switch them out for V-brakes.
What do you all think? Am I taking a big risk continuing (alone) with these brakes? Thanks in advance for your great tips!
First post here to share a quick recap of our west-to-east bike trip along Algeria’s coast in January 2025.
It was just the two of us—my partner and I—with French passports and not a word of Arabic. No friends or welcoming hosts in the country.
Under those conditions, we’d strongly advise against going.
Our original plan was to follow the coast from Algiers to Tunis. We ended up cycling from Algiers to Béjaia, then took the train from Béjaia to Annaba (with a stop in Constantine), and finally biked to the border.
We were tailed by police the whole way—whether on our bikes, on the train, or even on foot while exploring towns. On top of that, we couldn’t wild camp and were limited to the few state-approved hotels that accept foreigners. Under those circumstances, connecting with locals was especially tough.
With such an omnipresent and intrusive police presence, we’d definitely recommend against this destination for bike touring. A really sad situation that completely cuts you off from the local population...
